Solve : how to delete files of uknown extension?

Answer»

how can i REMOVE file of unknown extention
If you are SURE you don't need it, right click on it & select 'Delete'.Or you could OPEN the folder with the file in it, then click on 'Tools'> 'Folder OPTIONS'> 'View' tab> then scroll down and remove the tick from 'Hide extensions for known file types'.

This will force all files to have their extensions show. At least you'll have a better idea if it is indeed unknown by your system.

Beware though, if you leave it like this and you save a file, you have to add the '.doc, .xls, .ppt etc. at the end when typing the NAME or the system will not recognise the file type until you add it.

Solve : Very Major Ipod Problem! Plz help!?

Answer»

hey i have an ipod shuffle and my computer does not recognize it. i have had it for about 6 months with no problems but recently it has just packed up and died. i can listen to songs fine on it but it doesnt charge when its plugged in and itunes doesent detect an ipod. i tried to reset it but my computer does not detect it. i re-installed from the ipod cd it came with but it doesnt detect the ipod. i tied plugging it into my friends comps but there comps dont regognise it. it doesnt even COME up as a DRIVE any more.

PS: my comps specs are WELL above the minimum requirements, if that helpsWouldn't www.apple.com be a better place to go for this? It used to work, now it doesn't and it's 6 months old. Do you not have a warranty?   Before you ASSUM e it is your IPOD, you might try ANOTHER cable that games from IPOD to computer.. Maybe the cable just went dead...

[glb]Flame[/glb]Try downloading the latest Quicktime version and disabling any virtual drives.
Sometimes the virtual drives are what prevent the system from recognising the iPod - Nero is a bit of a mare for this.

Solve : restoring pc to factory settings?

Answer»

can anybody help me? I need to restore my pc back to factory settings as it's running soooo slow because of all the junk that my kids have downloaded. I was able to do it on my other pc as it had a recovery disc with it but this does'nt have anything with it HELP!!!!!LindyK......Have you considered cleaning out all the crap ? Which operating system is loaded on the pc in question ?

dl65  Thank you so much for taking the time to reply to my inane garbling! Anyway it's Windows XPsave whatever you need to disks.......and reload the recovery disks that came with the pc.........or you could download avanced system optimizer from majorgeeks.com.............>what proceessor have you got.....intel3/4 amd....?and what ram have you got........if unsure........TYPE msinfo32 in run box......it should tell you ?LindyK.....Ok .....here's what I would suggest ......
I would download the following programs if you dont already have them........
CCleaner.... http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4191.html
Spybot .... http://www.majorgeeks.com/download2471.html
MicroSoft Antispyware Beta ....
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=321cd7a2-6a57-4c57-a8bd-dbf62eda9671&displaylang=en

I am making the assumption that you do have a current updated anti virus program installed .

So ...once you have the above mentioned apps dowloaded and installed .......be sure and get the LATEST updates for all of them ....... Then ....
Turn off the system restore feature in XP ........
Shutdown ypour pc and restart it in SAFE mode ...... ( repeatedly tap the F8 key as its starting up and you will be given a number of options as how to start ......choose "SAFE MODE" ........
Then run a scan of the pc with your anti virus app.
delete anything it finds .
Then run the CCleaner ......
Delete anything it finds .
Then run Spybot
Delete anything it finds
Then run MS Antispyware ........
Delete anything it finds ......
Now shutdown and re start in normal mode and see how things are working ......
Let us know .......

dl65

Well done, sir.    That is the definitive answer, especially because she has no way to reload her OS.make model of pc.........maybe you can ask the makers for replacement recovery disks........to restore factory settings you may need them?LindyK, you have just RECEIVED some very GOOD advice from DL65, work through it step by step & I'm sure you will be very pleased with the results.
Tell us how you go.Still need recovery disks..........?or install disks for o/s.

or options like the f8 key on boot up......last good config.....or the recover cmd......in the prompt.....

Solve : How do I delete the annoying > >'s in e-mail?

Answer»

Hi, I'm flashygram or just flashy if you prefer.  I should have named me Ms. Puter Illiterate.    Seven months ago my hubby of 32 years passed away.  He told me one TIME he could just click a couple of keys and delete all those annoying > that appear down the left side of a lot of e-mails.  I was not concerned since he always got rid of them before I got the goodies.  Now that he is gone, it seems most of my treasured e-mails have a long trail of them!  Removing them 1 or 2 at a time is a real pain but I hate passing on the goods with them on it.  PLEASE does anyone know how to eliminate them before I SAVE or pass on the mail?  I know this is a rather simple issue but I want my e-mails to look nice so I use IncrediMail a lot.  Thanks to all who respond.  And, remember, I am somewhat COMPUTER illiterate!Download e-mail stripper, put it on your desktop, run it and then copy text in, strip it, and paste it back. It's even easier than it sounds and it's free!

http://www.papercut.biz/emailStripper.htmGood MORNING GX!  Thanks so much for the info. I have to admit my heart pounded several times while trying the stripper.  I have a shortcut on the desktop and also an icon on my taskbar since I find it hard to get back to my desktop without closing everything else.  Anyway, it WORKED BUT when I get to the copy click it says it will copy it to the clipboard.  I cannot find my clipboard only when I go to MS Word.  It that where I'm supposed to copy it and save so I can send it to others as an attachment?  I'm stumped.. I did try going to start> accessories>system tools but clipboard is not listed there.  I even did a search for it and found nothing.
Remember, I WARNED you I was Ms.CI.
Also, since I have your attention - is there a faster way to move all the lines of text up without doing each line separately with the backspace key?  You are great in helping all us "not computer smart" people.  I've looked to take classes but I just want the basics and most want to start with Word and do more complicated things.  Thanks again so much for answering my post!!  God Bless ...Put your mouse anywhere in the text you want to copy and click once. Control+A higfhlights all of the test. Control+C copies it all to the Windows clipboard (you don't need to see it.) Open e-mail stripper click once in the editing area. Control+V pastes the text from the clipboard in there. Press strip-it button, and then copy and paste text back where you want it.

Drag the e-mail stripper icon to the menu bar (next to the start button) and it will always be accessible.

Why does this person fron danasoft.com keep putting up these penguins on my messages telling me my isp and server??? What's the deal, does it just happen to me?

knarlybill,

You are not referring to me are you? Pictures of penguins? Where?

BTW, I am not from danasoft.com  And your IP info is only available to you. Everyone sees their own. Unless you see a penguin holding a sign!Sorry, but I gotta let this ONE out... Linux... Why a Penguin? It looks so... Crazed... Rabid even....

[glb]Flame[/glb]It is both crazed and rabid, sir.hydrophobic even. just like my computer. YIKES!  I see a sign!  Tis' a penguin holding a sign above his head with the info on it; the small flightless bird is sitting down with a morose expression on his wee face
The address: danasoft.com is under the sign on the right side. It is plugging Linux...but no offense GX-Man! Acually, (heh-heh) I am plugging Linux. It automatically rotates through 6 or so messages, carefully crafted by moi.

The attachment may go soon. I am having second thoughts about keeping it. Any yeas or nays?I've seen it used on several other forums. At first it was a "cute" thing to do, but it soon became an extreme annoyance. Thats why I completely blocked danasoft. Other less computer savvy users might not know how to do this. I think that for those people it is alarming and might cause some distrust. I know it is harmless but I personally dislike its use, especially on a forum that is here to help, not confuse, its patrons.ATTN: GX1_Manhttp://

I posted a question on the Linux forum about running it, and you responded with your own query about what I do with the computer. I like to mess with alot of graphics, and I do play a game every now and then. Right now its Return To Castle Wolfenstein, and I have Temple of Elemental Evil, but that runs really clunky-hence the questions about the video card-, however, I am considering an X Box for that. On the machine I plan on building, I will have Linus...probaly SUSE.
I was introduced to computers on an old 8088, then 286's , and on to 386 & 486DX, using DOS6.0, so I am a little familiar with command line execution. I can make a batch file ...but I am no expert. I like to tinker and venture out. I do detest MS and do not like having to go through all the changes. What do U think about the Linux route for moi?Well, command line is not required, but it sure can come in handy. If you could do real DOS and understand directory structure, you would have no problem. Most people start with a hard distribution, try it for 5 minutes and because it doesn't look and act exactly like Windows they say "I don't like it". (There was a learning curve to Windows that they have conveniently forgotten.) If you use the graphical interface, you really don't have to use any command line stuff at all.

Another thing that puts people off is that "it won't run my Windows programs". Well, it's not Windows, and Windows stuff doesn't at all on a Mac either, without some kind of emulator. There are plenty of Linux programs that can replace the MS based equivalents. It's just a new WAY of thinking.

Some get frustrated with their hardware not working, but that is the fault of the manufacturer's who do not provide linux drivers (or even specifications!) due to the smaller-than-Windows market share. Frequent complaints about my WinModem don't work. Really? Is it because it was made for Windows only? Real hardware modems have NEVER had a problem with linus. As the world shifts to broadband this will be less of an issue.

I recommend a new Linux user try a few distributions (or a hundred!) before they decide which is for them. Frankly, I don't care for Suse. And Linspire is the absolute easiest for Windows users to transition. It's not free, but it's cheaper than Windows and you DO have to pay for that one way or the other. I recommend a person start with a dual boot system so they don't totally liose their security blanket, while being able to learn about Linux and certainly be safer while on the net.

Sorry if I seemed to ramble. Actually I was just getting started.

Keep the sign GX1, it's fun to watch people freak out about it.
Try & get the script, that's a challenge.

Hey Bill, what do you think of RTCW?
Are you up to the scary part yet?  I'm at the base where I'm suppose to get on the truck to get in the rocket base, but I get in the truck, and it says exit not available at this time. I'm in the truck and nothing happens.

I have a small window that pops up every time I turn on my computer, it says in the blue bar on top, reminder thursday[or whatever day it is it keeps the right day] and time, thats it, in the window it says this page cant be displayed, like I was searching for something on line. its one of those type, there is no x in the corner, and we cant right click to get rid of it, we can control alt delte but it re appears every half hour on the dot.
we dont know what it is or how to get rid of it, we tried everything we know how to do ,run this and that, bla bla bla . we have an hp d4100y and its only a few months old. it appeared about a week or so ago. we USE firefox and internet explorer to surf the web, I like explorer, while my son and hubby uses firefox. I dont know which browser was in use when this happened.
we have cable internet so we are on all the time.
any ideas?Which operating system are you using? Do you have Spyware protection? have you scanned for viruses and Spyware?

[glb]Flame[/glb]Do you use 'end task' when you hit Ctrl+Alt+Del to stop it running?

anyway, we scan with norton anti virus and have microsoft anti spyware and spybot search and destroy.
when we clicked on proccess name we got hpsddapp.exe
[we have a hp pavillion by the way]
Its not in the config menu or start up menu, if its an internal problem, we will have to call hp.it can be control alt delete and shut down but now its popping up all the time. reminder sunday 10:58 it now says. and this page cant be displayed?  must be some sort of internet problem too, dont see a purpose for it at all.
we will go to the websites you suggested also.
thanks
tam
You're getting somewhere now Tammyo.
Forget the rest, go straight to Hijackthis, download & run the program. Save the logfile, post it at the Hijackthis site for auto analysing and post it here too.
Hijackthis will let you stop the program from starting.

http://www.hijackthis.de/index.php?langselect=englishFlame, the Hijackthis WEBSITE will analyse the log and even check individual files for viruses.
I recommend it because it is their computer & they know (hopefully) what 'extras' they have installed.
You should create a logfile & try it, it's very good.Oh the analyzer has the file with it! oops! lol removing old post lol

Oh, I don't keep track of the AMOUNT of times I reformat. I can tell you I phoned Microsoft twice. Or thrice. The first time I did it I got nervous and hung up after someone told me my serial number was blocked.Hard to keep track of with all the computers I run and use. However, some might be impressed (or sad) that my primary play machine (machine I use to break, install viruses on, or do other bad things to) has been formatted and had one variant of windows installed on it several dozen times, at least 20+ times over the last YEAR. However, between all the other computers (even the computers running WIN95 Win98), I probably haven't had to reinstall Windows on those computers more than 5-10 times. Thanks brothers/sisters......for the replies........interested to see if techo have moved forward in time and space.....i have only done it once because some numpty at tiscaly thought i had a trojan!!!

R0SSI had to erase and reinstall windows hmm at least once a year cause for some reason I do something that is unfixable. and I have 3 so that is 3x5 =15 times so far. Didn't count this year yet. I plan to soon loL!

Where could you possibly have used the Star Wars icon for?

A few times actually, from what I can recall. Used in an IRC room once to simulate a star wars fight in IRC (ugh I really am a geek), Used in a IRC game I once tried writing (used this icon as well as other different made up emoticons (Think this could be used in MUD's too), used it on an IRC channel once to see who list the most emoticons.

Solve : SMPS issue?

Pehaps the bearing in the fan is wearing out ...hence the noise...or the fan blades have attracted a large amount of dust .

dl65  It sounds LIKE the bearings are going bad or need to heat up a bit before they quieten down.
I had a new video card that used to do that but it stopped after a few months so if it's new, give it some time.
Removing the cover will only increase the load on the fan but it won't hurt it.What is an SMPS?Google & you shall learn grasshopper.  Perhaps that suspect wiring in your habitat has caused other problems as well.

Solve : Mouse not responding properly / Browser?

Answer»

Hello. I'm new here.

My computer is not responding properly to mouse clicks/the cursor, and my Netscape browser will not open. More details below.

I have two PROBLEMS which might be related. Both problems started about the same time, a couple of days ago.

(1a.) MOUSE / CURSOR / SELECTION PROBLEM

I'm not sure if this first problem is related to the browser issue mentioned below - My computer is not responding properly to mouse clicks, not consistently.

Whether I'm trying to open an application or selecting a tool in software (like the paint brush in photoshop), it acts weird.

If I click on something one time, my computer will act as though I did a "double click" (e.g., it will then open something that I didn't want it to open, or it will switch the tool I'm using to its alternate mode - it will do all of those "double click" behaviors when I have clicked only one time).

(1b.) OPENING MORE THAN ONE WINDOW

Another aspect of the problem I'm encountering - when I click on something to get it to open, rather than opening only ONE window (say a browser window), THREE windows open.

(2.) BROWSER WON'T OPEN

I usually use Netscape (version 7) as my primary broswer, and that is the browser that is configured to get and send e-mail via my internet service PROVIDER.

In the meantime, I am using Mozilla Fire Fox as my browser. I don't even see a way to get/send e-mail from my Mozilla Firefox browser.

Even if I can use Fire Fox for e-mail (and I also use web based e-mail services such as "hot mail"), I'd still like to be able to access my internet service provider's  e-mail account (which I access via my Netscape browser), since I have some old information in there I'd like to keep and to read from time to time.

However, in the past few days, since I've tried to open Netscape, Netscape won't open!

I've tried opening NS (Netscape) by...

     - clicking on the small Netscape logo on the task bar;

     - double clicking on the NS icon on the desktop (which is what I normally do);

     - RIGHT clicking on either logo and selecting "Open" from the resulting pop up menus;

     - going through the "Start" Menu thingy on the lower left on the task bar and selecting "Netscape" from the list;

~ And none of that works!

Not only can I not get e-mail at that one account if I cannot open Netscape, but Netscape is the browser where I have most of my passwords stored in memory.

I recall that when I was on the web the other day, something downloaded something automatically - I got a dialog box telling me to disable Netscape's "quick launch" feature before re-starting NS. I don't remember what that was about, I just clicked the box to close it.

I have since gone in and disabled the Netscape Quick Launcher and then tried opening NS, but NS still didn't open; perhaps I have to re-boot?

The odd thing is, I don't think that dialog box was for Netscape; I think it was for Mozilla Fire Fox (or something), and it was telling me to mess around with Netscape.
----------------------
I hope all this bizarre behavior isn't a sign that my computer is about to die or something. My computer is from Gateway, it uses Windows ME for its Operating System, and it's about five years old or so.

Do any of you know why my computer would refuse to open Net scape, and why it is not responding to mouse clicks properly???

Any help would be appreciated! What movse is this........seem you have a number problems.

Take them step by step.........do you have norton/firewall software.........list what you have got! Quote

What movse is this........seem you have a number problems.
Take them step by step.........do you have norton/firewall software.........list what you have got!
I wasn't sure what you meant by this, "What movse is this" -?

If you're asking what kind of mouse I use - it's an optical mouse, not an old fashioned track and ball variety. It says on the top of it, "Micro innovations."  I've used this mouse for about a year now with no problems.

Well, I have something called Norton ANTI-Virus on my computer, but I haven't used it in a billion years.

Also, these problems I've had with 'single clicking on an item acting as though I've double clicked' has only been happening over the past couple of days, and I've had the Norton Anti-Virus thingy on my computer for a few years now, so I don't think that would be it.

I've had something on my computer for a couple of years now called "Ad Aware," but my problems began a couple of days ago.

Another aspect of the problem I'm encountering - when I click on something to get it to open, rather than opening only ONE window (say a browser window), THREE windows open.gromster2...

It might be prudent to check and see if your norton is still even current as far as updates and subscription.
BTW which Norton is it ?
If it is still functional ...please run a complete scan now in the safe mode and let us know the result .

let us know

dl65  When I click on the Norton AntiVirus icon to run the software, it keeps giving me error messages, etc., (e.g. "Nmain has caused an errorr in NMAIN.EXE. Nmain will now close. If you continue to experience problems, try restarting your computer.")

The box that OPENS when the Norton AntiVirus icon is clicked says... "Norton AntiVirus 2000"

One dialog box says (under a tab reading "version"), "Norton AntiVirus File Version 4.7.0.22"

For all means and purposes, I don't really have any kind of safety / firewall protection on my computer, so I don't think my problem is due to any interference from such software or features. Quote
I wasn't sure what you meant by this, "What movse is this" -?

A movse is an Olde English term for mouse so you are both talking about the same thing.

You should do several things. Start by uninstalling that Norton product, It's no good to you now and we can eliminate another variable. Do the scans for Spyware/Adware/Virus as repeatedly mentioned throughout this forum. Do all MS Windows updates. Then let us know what is happening.Download, install & update AVG before you remove the Norton virus.
Try a ps2 mouse.Brief update.

When I started up my computer today and connected to the web, Netscape actually opened (on its own, as it is supposed to do). However, one of the menu bar things has disappeared, the one reading "File," "Edit," "View," "Bookmarks" etc., nor is the e-mail icon thingy that is normally on the lower left showing up either (so I still cannot check e-mail).

Anyway, I downloaded AVG Anti- Virus, and it said that I have something in C:\Windows called
I-worm / Sobig.C, and the file name is mscvb32.exe

When I later went looking for that file (I think I had started my computer again shortly before this), AVG automatically came on and asked me if I wanted to delete the "mscvb32.exe" file or place it in the vault. I chose to delete it.

I then opened Netscape, but the one menu bar and the e-mail icon thing are still not showing up.

An online friend of mine also advised me to download a free spyware deal, so I plan on doing that as well.Ad Aware
Spybot Search and Destroy
Trend Online Virus Scanner

In that order

Also go to Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager...double click on mouse and check there to see if all your settings are correct.

At that time my tubelight goes off and returns back instantly,.

this is occurring for a few days. This doesn't sound good. Assume YES.no harm ........to hard to explain.........at the moment......is the pc running ok.......is so......then dont WORRY......Merlin:

This doesn't sound good. Assume YES.

I agree. A properly functioning electrical connection should NOT be making noises. What kind of noise is it making? It is making cracking sound as if there is a friction and burning. After sometimes it stops. And exactly where is the sound coming from? The computer? The wall socket? (I'm not sure what you're REFERRING to when you say the main electric board).By main electric board i MEAN to say the board that is in my room. It is not the board that is supplying to all the
rooms of my flat.

The sound is not coming from the computer but from the wall socket where i have inserted the main plug of my pc.

main plug is the plug which carries the connecton to the muti plugger system.

In this multi plugger system i connect my all plugs such as plugs from monitor, system unit, printer etc.
Quote
The sound is ... coming ... from the wall socket

Unplug the computer and call the landlord. You have a bad socket and a fire hazard.[size=16]This is ownership flat. I already called an electrician and he checked all and then replaced the connection wire in the main electric board with thicker wire.

He said that whenever i am opening my computer there is excessive load on the main wire from the main electric board and this may have been worsen due to heavy rain recently. The walls have become damped.

The situation is this:

there is two room between my room and the main electric board ( the main electric board is at the entrance of the flat.)

the wires comes like this. From the main electric board to the first room,

from first room to the second room,

from second room to my room.

What the elctrician has done is to change the wring between the main electric board and the first room.

He told that every other connection is OK but still the problem is occuring.[/size]

[/color]You obviously have some issues with your living conditions. Until they're settled, plug your PC in at your own peril.

If you can overload your building's electrical system by turning on your computer, even after the problem has supposedly been "fixed", somebody needs to be notified. Either the electrician for a second visit, or the local authorities to conduct an inspection. Quote

Get a fire extinguisher of the appropriate type. Water is not good for electrical FIRES, which you are getting ready to have. The high inrush current of the PSU is causing the high resistance joint in the power outlet to break down.

Solve : Jross his problem.?

Answer»

Quote

The power supply is brand new.  400W, purchased in July when everything else went bad. Thus, the power switch is new, since the old unit had none.

The power outlet is not dedicated for the PC, and all other items are fine (lamp, etc.)

Printer, scanner, speakers have been disconnected, and I'll pick up THERMAL paste tomorrow.

I put in a new battery, and per MachSpeed's TROUBLESHOOTING guide, I repositioned the jumper and then reset.

I am ready to believe that I've really ticked off the PC Gods and this is my punishment: to be desperate enough for help to appeal to a Charlie Bronson (nee, Buchinski) wanna-be!  LET me guess - in real life you're a mid-50s mother of 4.  Grin  Grin

That's a very creative insult.

Jross is the guy with the tagline that goes "If I knew the answer, I wouldn't ask for help"

I have another one for you: "If I didn't knew the answer, I wouldn't be so much of an idiot as to insult one of the few people who can help me. I better take a gun, shove it up my anus and pull the trigger till it says click and have my children shot in case they decide to reproduce"
Another one bites the dust.......Why have you answered your own question.... Quote

That i could fix most pcs......if i had them here in the sitting room of my home..........the first netrage.......i guess......maybe pc hope should have workshop for pcs......Is someone wants to pay the postage both ways, I would entertain that notion.I like the written word. This way posters get a suggestion or two, fix the problem themselves and hopefully learn a thing or two in the process.I'm with you Merlin, NOTHING worse than spending 2 DAYS of typing to get someone to do something that should take 5 minutes. Solve : CD Drive is Not Reading Anything!?

Answer»

The situation is... I just RECENTLY updated my windows to windows XP home edition, so I could LOAD my ipod software.. but now my CD drive isn't reading anything... I don't know why it isn't working, and am wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to get  my CD drive to work,
Before when I had just windows millenium, it read my CD's, and program cd for the ipod and now when I put in the ipod software cd or any other cd it makes the noise like it is reading the cd but nothing shows up on the screen... any ideas??Ok. Well, when you took off your old Windows system and switched to XP, you lost your drivers... What I want you to do is reinstall your drivers.... Can you do that?

[glb]Flame[/glb]No, I don't know how to do that, but when I switched to xp, I took it to a computer guy to do it for me so I don't know really what to do... any easy WAY to explain how to?Alright.... Let's start easy.... Who is the manufacturer of your CD drive?

[glb]Flame[/glb]ok... I think its 'communicate lite software', or thats what I found a cd of, it says modem driver cd so thats it right?No.... I was actually looking for your CD drive's drivers.... You will need the CD for your modem later however...

[glb]Flame[/glb]My cd drive is on D: , I also have a dvd drive, that is an E: drive,Try using Nero InfoTool. It should be able to tell you everything you'll need to know about your drive, including what type it is and who MADE it.

Solve : Outlook 2003 Calendar Reminders?

Answer»

My Outlook 2003 is performing fine... but the calendar's reminders stop working without any known reason and I no longer receive reminders (warning screen nor sound).

I have RUN Detect & Repair couple of times and also the Repair option in the reinstalling procedure but no solution at all.

Does anybody know how to solve that?HI Carl. Try this first:

Go to Tools->Options->Other->Advanced Options->Reminder Options.

Make SURE Display Reminder is enabled. It's enabled. I hace checked that several times but no way. Sound system is working, just in case.Okay then, try this:

On the Tools menu, CLICK Options.
Click the Preferences tab, deselect (uncheck) the Default Reminder check box and then click Apply.
Redo the operation by selecting  (checking) the same Default Reminder box and click Apply.

Unbelievable!  I did what you said, started making trials over the WEEKEND... and IT WORKED!

After reading your instructions first time I could not stop a smile but decided to try and I got the good surprise. I still do not inderstand why this worked that way, but IT WOKS.

Thanks a lot!Glad to hear the problem is solved, Carl. You're quite welcome.

Solve : STOP IT!?

Answer»

Stop dragging up old completed or ABANDONED threads!
We come here to help people and we don't want to waste time reading tagged on irrelevant comments.
You know who you are. If people keep POSTING in an old thread then doesn't that mean there's still interest in the thread?  If there's still interest in a thread then why should people stop posting to it?  If you're not interested in an old thread nobody forces you to open it.  That's my $0.02.OK, leave out the old, old is good, jeez, I'm old.
If there is interest with various posters that's fine but when you get a thread that's been resolved, everyone has kissed & said goodbye then some ½ wit TAGS some comment on the end 2 weeks later.... GRRR!
It's almost spam.

  • Poster has long left the forum
  • Person who posts answers is only interested in getting a high post count by answering easy questions.
I guess Admin could delete it if resolved. THis really wouldn't be like policing the board, just tidying up.Pruning... Might not be a bad idea for some...
