What does it mean by .SIT extension?

I downloaded INTERNET connection keeper from here

and it got downloaded as .sit extension.

When i tried to install it , it said could not LOAD, or asking for a folder to openRequirements: Mac OS X  http://gammadyne.com/Well I am sorry I did not notice that.
