Answer» My computer dealer says that all LAPTOPS as well as all other PCs no longer include a printed user manual to tell you how to set-up your new PC. Is this true? I have never owned a PC and have no idea how to set-up. I know they're trying to save paper but this is ridiculous. I have no PC savvy. All I can do is surf the net at the Apple Store. I need a printed manual. I was told the instructions are included in a CD-ROM but how COULD it help if I can't hook-up. It' a Catch-22 situation. Are new PCs already loaded with Windows? I am unsure of what BURNING a CD is and I understand that netbooks and some laptops don't even play CDs or DVDs.Simply open the Owner's manual on the CD that was provided...it's probably in .PDF format so i suggest DLoading and installing Foxit Reader...FREE. Then Print it out from there... And yes i tend to AGREE...it is quite chincy they do this. Also remember your manual is available online anytime at the manuf. website...You usually get a folded "quick set-up guide" printed on one sheet of GLOSSY paper which gets you hooked up and then you can use the computer and see the fuller guide on the CD-ROM.

Answer» Hi I have a Packard Bell system running XP Pro, It is a recon unit and i have had it about 8 months, It has about 1.5 GB of memory and i have free AVG, Zone alarm and Windows defender running, Just recently it has crashed a few times for no reason it would appear, So i thought i may have a Virus or something and i have run scans but with no LUCK, My next thought was to try System Restore but this does not work at all, When i try to restore to a earlier time it goes through the motions even re-booting its self but then i get the message, Cant Restore To This Time! It just restarted!! Answer» HEY, new to this forum just wanted to get some input on computer application engineering. I am currently going to college for my bachelors in CIS (have about 3 semesters left). I am not really sure what exactly I plan on doing for a career yet, just know it is going to be something with computers. I was looking through some computer careers today and came across computer applications engineer. Seems like a pretty interesting field and job GROWTH looks to very good(and decent pay doesnt hurt either ) . So my question is what would be the best things to start looking into right now (what languages and systems are the most common used and what should I be looking into to learn) ?? Also if you are a computer applications engineer would you recommend this field?? I was kinda in between this and web DESIGN, just seems like web design it is harder to get into the field as most jobs seem like freelance jobs and I looking more of a career where I would work for a company for long time. Also if I DECIDE to go into computer applications I am guessing I would have to change my major to get a BS in computer science... Any input is very appreciated!! TY!

Answer» Ok, i had to reformat my external hard drive to FAT32 so my ps3 COULD read them. so i used a friends external hard drive to move all my files to his while i did the reformat - which was a major pain but managed to do so through to command prompt. now im transfering all my files back to my external from his, the problem is some of my files arent transfering back. I get the MESSAGE : cannot read source file or disc. they play on his, no viruses, they just cant be moved. i tried moving them to my hard drive, and then my friends hard drive thinking it was a problem with the new format, but no avail. i can live with the loss of these files, but i really would like to know why it's not working.anyone?The only thing I can think of is that the problem lies with FAT32 not being ABLE to read NTFS file systems...hence "cannot read source file or disc".....and a wild guess leads me to think that your friends external HD is using the NTFS file system (not FAT32) If you are using the command line to transfer the files back, from what directory are you using the command?? ...I don't know if the restrictions of FAT32 apply to the command prompt, you may be typing the command from the wrong directory. For example..... If your FAT32 drive has a drive letter G:\ and your friends drive (with all your files) has a drive letter of H:\ and you are using this command: g:\>copy h:\directory\files (this command line might not work)... But try using this command.. open a prompt on your computer, type: cd \ hit ENTER and then type: c:\>copy h:\folderWITHyourFILES g:\newDirectoryOFyourCHOICE note: if it looks like the command prompt is just sitting there with a blinking cursor after you press enter, it's probably because of a large file being transferred.........there is a bit of a wait time you know... If all else fails....You could transfer all the files from your friends drive to a computer, then transfer those files back to your FAT32 drive...

Answer» Hi there, Bought a new HP dv7 laptop with Bluray player and running HP mediasmart with the intention of watching bluray dvds thru laptop on my LG plasma TV via HDMI... The laptop plays the bluray dvds fine but when i connect to TV via HDMI (to HDMI on laptop) I get an Information message in Mediasmart which says "The content is protected. The content is not ALLOWED to play in the CURRENT display mode." I've downloaded all updates and even changed DVD regions all to no avail... Please help? Adam. Ok, both your monitor and your graphics card in your system needs to be HDCP capable. HDCP is short for High Bandwidth Digital Content Protection. It is the high definition/blueray equivalent of the DRM protection they put into mp3 or other audio for piracy protection. Your laptop monitor AND your graphics card in the laptop is HDCP capable, which means blueray playing on laptop is fine, however to get the laptop to play the blueray video with your HD TV and your digital video, your TV and the connection to your TV must be HDCP-capable. Probably your TV is not HDCP capable , hence you can't play the bleray dvd using your tv as the monitor. But DOUBLE check me on that because I don't know what model of TV you have. If that is the case, then only way around it is to get a new TV that is hdcp capable, OR get the AnyDVD HD software that will allow you to bypass the HDCP protection. But, piracy is not recommended Hi, Thanks for your swift reply! In the manuel it says my TV (LG 42PX4DV-AA) does support HDCP protocol (480p, 576p,720p,1080i). Hope this helps? The money may be worth it to some repair techs., but how much of the knowledge that repair techs. gain is something they'll be able to use for the rest of there lives? An unfulfilled feeling comes over me when I think about spending weeks learning any given technology, knowing that it will be obsolete, eventually. If you want a career in the IT repair industry,in my opinion, it would make more sense to have a career that in NOT in the IT repair industry to use as your primary source of income, and have an IT business on the side that you may dabble in as you see fit...Dabble in it however you want, just as long as you are not at the mercy of those who are inventing these the various, rapid changing technologies.. On that note, I've decided to go back to college for another two years to get a Bachelor's degree and pursue a career that's more stable (of course I'll probably do the IT thing on the side, eventually). Vista obviously changed this even more- but at the same time added support for - much in the same way as windows 95 did for PCI - SATA controllers. Much like 3.1 and the PCI bus, XP and even 2000 can be made to recognize SATA as well via drivers. Throughout, we have had basics. CPU, RAM, hard drive, motherboard. only the underlying technologies connecting these together have changed. I wonder sometimes myself if finding a career in the IT repair industry is worth it... The money may be worth it to some repair techs., but how much of the knowledge that repair techs. gain is something they'll be able to use for the rest of there lives? An unfulfilled feeling comes over me when I think about spending weeks learning any given technology, knowing that it will be obsolete, eventually.

If you want a career in the IT repair industry,in my opinion, it would make more sense to have a career that in NOT in the IT repair industry to use as your primary source of income, and have an IT business on the side that you may dabble in as you see fit...Dabble in it however you want, just as long as you are not at the mercy of those who are inventing these the various, rapid changing technologies..

On that note, I've decided to go back to college for another two years to get a Bachelor's degree and pursue a career that's more stable (of course I'll probably do the IT thing on the side, eventually). This may be true, but you I think you're missing the point... Maybe I should have used something other than physics as an example....There are more careers and things in the world that are based on relatively absolute principles, especially when compared to COMPUTING technology...

3876.	Solve : My CPU spikes to 100% at regular intervals??
Answer» Hello, New to this forum and looking for answers. When looking at my windows Task Manager under the performance tab it shows my CPU usage SPIKING to 100% about every 30-35 seconds. They are very regular and evenly spaced spikes. The only things running are my (PC Tools) registry mechanic and whatever web site I am on. My computer is running slow and web sites take a LONG time to load. I am on Road Runner/ My computer has PC Tools Spyware protection,privacy guardian and registry mechanic. Is this spiking normal?In task manager, look in the "processes" tab. System idle process will be 99 when the system is "idle", but when those spikes occur, under the CPU column, look for the specific .exe file that is causing the spikes.. and google it to find out information on it.. It could be a security threat, or it could be a run-away app/service..btw.. in either case, if your computer is generally slow, you'll have to do some cleansing.. Go the malware forum here at CH for a viral cleansing If they find nothing over there, then post BACK here so we can find the culprit causing the slowness... Looks like jqs.exe is the one that is causing the spike? What is that?wow, Thanks for the HINTS, I have now disabled Java QUICK Start and that seemed to solve the problem. Answer» Greetings I hope this is the right place for a ? like this.:\|\|Recently I have been noticing that after I download a file or program and TRY to open it, I get a message that STATES "c:\ users\my name\documents\downloads\programs\file or program.exe has been moved" I then search for the file or program n find it, but when I click on to open it again tells me that it has been moved. I use bitdefender,superantispyware, glary utilities, trojan remover, windows washer, and all say pc is fine. The virus databases r all updated 2. My pc specs r : Dell dimension 8400 500 gb hdd 4gb ram windows vista 32bit. I WOULD greatly appreciate any and all help REGARDING this issue. Thank u in advance for ur time and assistance.

I would like to get two of the three slots filled with 1 GB each. For a perhaps inappropriate question, does anyone have a brand recommendation? You can add two PC 2700 1G memory sticks, but the speed will only be PC 2100, if you leave the 512 MB module in the computer. Your bios will always use the speed of the slowest RAM module.

During random times the computer just freezing, usually when I'm on the internet but not always. This computer has already froze around 8 times. You have to do this yourself. When you purchase a new system you can reformat and reinstall the OS. Answer» I got an e-mail from my job interview, they were texts,and they were ASPX format which I couldn't open, when I tried to open them with "word pad" all I got was symbols, I tried also to open the attachments with MS word, Opera, I.E and note pad but they didn't open them I need to convert them, but I don't know how ? or download any program that I can open the documents with, please help me it's really important or I won't get the job because I couldn't reach the woman who sent me the e-mail and they only gave a deadline of 47 hours. P.S : My OS is windows vistaASPX is a server-side ASP.NET file. what were they supposed to be sending you?They were supposed to send me texts in a document that i must translate. Please time is running out , help me as soon as possible you mean your file is ASP Format? If its in ASP format means you may try like this.... 1. In Page view, at the bottom of the document WINDOW, click Design Button image. 2. Select the CONTENT that you want to remove formatting from. 3.
