Solve : Download deleted YouTube videos?

Answer»

I am helping someone finding episodes of a TV show and I found 3 URLs of deleted videos from YouTube.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgIrD7Dpbok
www.youtube.com/watch?v=RwcriNMUPro
www.youtube.com/watch?v=KWO17ndjBrM
I do not get the channel these videos came from in HD (The cable provider in my house asks for a $80 PACKAGE to get that channel), but that user did. I tried a video recovering TOOL online from http://www.deletedyoutube.ftvteen.com/ and it didn't work for these videos, only videos I never WATCHED. I forgot to download those videos and Torrent networks do not work, and I can't afford to get those videos from iTunes or usenet (I really could but I will waste my money). Can you help me?what is the name of TV show and the episodes you want? MAYBE it can be found on other websites so you can save them to view on your pc later.

Solve : Corrupt Jpeg files?

Answer»

I am TRYING to open an old disk that has jpeg files saved on it. I have tried a ton of the file fixer SOFTWARES and they don't work. The photo software I was using at the time was Image EXPERTS from Dell I believe. These pictures are very precious to me. Can anyone help? Try this: FastStone Image Viewer 4.0What are the IMAGES stored on? Your HD, Cd's, or floppies?

JPEG is a very STRICT set of standards for images that all companies and programs are supposed to adherer to, and I've never heard of problems from one program to another.if it's on a CD, maybe you want to get a software like ISOBUSTER to try to see if all the data can be out of the CD with the software and then try opening it on computer later on....

Solve : The Pirate Bay?

Answer»

I have just come across this.

One of the founders of the Pirate BAY is kicking off a venture that aims to help websites generate cash.

Called Flattr, the micropayments system revolves around members paying a fixed monthly fee.

At the end of each month that cash will be divided among participating sites a Flattr MEMBER wants to reward.

Members might want to reward a band that made a track they liked, the author of a story they enjoyed or a site that gave useful advice.

Participating sites will sport a Flattr button in the same way that many have clickable icons that let visitors send information to friends or refer something they find interesting to sites such as Digg and Redditt.

"The money you pay each month will be spread evenly among the buttons you click in a month," said Peter Sunde.

"We want to encourage people to share money as well as content," Mr Sunde told BBC News. "It's a test to see if this might be a working method for real micropayments."

The minimum Flattr wants people to pay each month is 2 euros (£1.73) but members can pay more if they want to.

"That way you have control over your monthly spending on content, and you can rather help many people than just a few," he said.

Many micropayment systems had not proved popular, he said, because they were too cumbersome to use regularly.

Mr Sunde said he hoped it proved popular among the vast number of NICHE sites run by passionate amateurs that have a small, dedicated audience but which struggle to cover their operating costs.

Initially, Flattr plans to take a 10% cut of any cash paid as an administration fee. But, said Mr Sunde, it HOPES to push that percentage lower as people sign up.

"We're not really in this for becoming rich," he said. "We're doing it to change things and making people get money they never got before."

"I know that people are nice enough," he said. "People love things and they want to pay."

Flattr is currently in a closed trial but hopes to be ready to launch by the end of March 2010. It is seeking partners looking to generate some cash from their content.

Mr Sunde said the idea for Flattr came to him about five years ago but could not pursue it because of "other things that took massive amounts of time".

"I wanted to find a one-click way to pay for content," he said. "I wanted it to be based on the idea that different people have different financial situations," he told the BBC. "So doing it in a flat rate manner was the only way."

The "other things" included The Pirate Bay website that pointed people towards copyrighted content such as music tracks and videos. Mr Sunde and three other administrators of the site were pursued in Sweden's courts by film and video game makers.

In April 2009, the four were found guilty of aiding copyright theft and were sentenced to one year in prison and fined 2.7m euros (£2.35m). Final appeals from both sides of the case are due to be heard in early 2010.

I think the 10% is to pay for the £2.35m fine. Long read with an interesting twist at the end.

I think the business model is FLAWED regardless.

I can't see people signing up for a monthly subscription fee so they can have the convenience sending "flattery" money to web sites they like.Been tried before...
Hasn't worked so good.I must say, asking members to pay a monthly fee at a pro-piracy site is hilarious.Quote

But the holiday has its connotations, I'm sure we'll get a load of messeges from drunk computer enthusiasts who've PAINTED their monitor green with acrylic and now everything on the screen has gone green for some reason...May God bless Ireland and St Patrick and St Patrick's Day. hicI like it!

Solve : Connecting S-video to A/V?

Answer»

Thank you for that link. I did everything it said and it still didn't work. Either my TV is too old or my cable is too long. It said that I shouldn't use a cable longer than 12 ft or I won't get as good as an image. Well I am using a 25 ft cable and I get no image at all.

I may try to get a shorter cable or just wait till I get a new TV. Thanks for all the responses. I posted this question on 6 DIFFERENT sites and this is the only one that I got any RESPONSE from.

Anyone want to buy a 25 foot S-video to AV cable? Something like this converter is probably what you need. It takes a VGA input, which you should have, and has a composite video output.

http://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-PC-TV-Converter-Box/dp/B000X3FAJU/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1268867682&sr=8-2-fkmr0#moreAboutThisProductI doubt it's the cable. I've got a 30' cable that I've used more than a few times for video feeds. There may be a problem with converting from the s-video SIGNAL to rca, and in that case a converter like rthompson80819 suggested may do the trick.

Edit: I just checked on some of the reviews for svideo to rca adapters on Amazon, and everyone that used them (much like the ones you DESCRIBED) said that they work perfectly....... I'll try some THINGS with my laptop and an adapter and let you know what I find out.

Solve : Ipod trouble?

Answer»

I have an Ipod nano, third gen, 8gb.
I've been connecting it to my car stereo, which charges it for me while it's connected. Recently, I went to connect it and it woudn't turn on. I figured that the batteries had drained SOMEHOW, but when I connected it to my laptop Itunes doesn't recognize it and it still won't turn on. When its PLUGGED in, it gets warm but nothing happens.
I've TRIED resetting it and it doesn't respond, I've tried all my usb ports, and I've downloaded the newest version of Itunes, but it still isn't working.
I've had it for about a YEAR now, and I've heard of Ipods giving out after a while.
Is there anything I can do?

Solve : Files moved after data was restored??

Answer»

I'm not knowledgeable about computers, so I might not be explaining this very clearly. Please bear with me.

My Inspiron 1545 Dell labtop, which I bought about a year and a half AGO recently crashed because I turned it off while it was installing updates. In order to bring it back, I used the Dell Datasafe LOCAL Backup program that comes with the computer to recover my files. Now, the computer seems to have created ANOTHER account called my name.my name-PC while all of my old files are in my original account, my name (when I say my name, I obviously mean my ACTUAL name). This new account seems to have become my default account, so for example my default document location is C:\Users\my name.my name-PC instead of just C:\Users\my name. My question is if there's anyway I can get the user to SWITCH over to my name again so all my files are in their default locations instead of in the users file.

My second question is if I can possible recover my software and old settings (for example, internet favorites) from before the crash. The restore wiped out everything, and reinstalling will be a pain in the *censored*. See here FAQ -> http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/kcs/document?c=us&l=en&s=gen&docid=DSN_62A6A327864B40B4E040AE0AB8E14688&isLegacy=true

According to Zune link, all supported contents and file formats sync/transfer between PC and your Zune 30gb would be thru your created account. The Zune 30gb is restricted only to this process of importing files by their provided Zune software and is available online. Have you created your account online? Do you have Zune software installed? Did you checked for the latest firmware version(3.3) for your device for any bug fixes you might be encountering? You may need to convert files using the Windows media encoders.

Solve : roaming files, general description, any dangers??

Answer»

I am trying to understand what the roaming files are for as recorded in my PC - any danger that they represent eavesdropping from sources external to my PC? Why should I have any roaming activity in my PC? Thanks for not laughing at my questions - I ain't too swift with computers...They are for when using Roaming User Profiles, either with or WITHOUT Active Directory on domains. It allows users to have their own settings whichever computer they log onto. Just leave it, even if you are using a single machine not on a network. Generally, it's where applications keep their APPLICATION specific data; for example, games might PUT their high score tables there, Applications might put their INI settings and configuration info there, etc.

The Run command no longer appears on the Start menu in this version of Windows. The search BOX that appears on the Start menu provides much of the same functionality as the Run command. HOWEVER, the Run command is still available if you prefer to use it. You can even add it to the Start menu for easier access.
To add the Run command to the Start menu

1. Open Taskbar and Start Menu Properties by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Appearance and Personalization, and then clicking Taskbar and Start Menu.

2. Click the Start Menu tab, and then click Customize.

3. In the list of Start menu options, select the Run command check box, and then click OK. The Run command will be displayed on the right side of the Start menu.

Solve : Free AV Resue CD downloads.?

This may have been posted before, but I didn't see it.
Some users are reporting that their laptop or desktop just goes dead. No reason. But the BIOS will come up file. This can be a type of virus attack of some kind. To make sure, get a free AV rescue CD and boot it and scan your hard drive.
Quote

Malware can often LEAVE an infected system UNSTABLE - or even unable to boot into Windows. Fortunately, a few antivirus vendors offer excellent (and free) rescue CDs that will enable you to boot, scan, and repair the infected machine. Following are the three best bootable antivirus rescue CDs available, listed in alphabetical order.

The above site lists three free CD downloads. You will NEED a woodworking PC that can download and burn an ISO to a CD-R and you are ready to go.I like the TRINITY Rescue Kit

The Kaspersky Rescue Disk is also good.

Solve : A little lost?

Answer»

Hello youngsters!
I have been computing for a little over a year now and have gotten my computer ( a hand me down from my kids) purring like a kitten. It was crashing at every turn when I saved it from the trash heap but with dedication and much help from many I was able to bring it back to life. It's an HP and part of that help came from their awesome website.
Now i am trying to fix my mother's (techgrandgranny) computer. It's an Acer. The Acer and AOpen sites are lot less user friendly and I have spent weeks now on just one of my problems.
The problem is that when I click on AOconfig I get a page fault in opencliba.dll. I don't know if this is a hardware or software problem. Software I believe but not sure so that's why I am posting in other. I don't know if it is a BIOS or driver issue, a RAM issue or malware perhaps?
I am completely lost!
Does anyone know how I can ask Acer/Aopen this question or have the answers I need?
In other words " Can anyone help a little old lady across the internet highway?Sounds like it is a .dll from the AOpen software itself...
Do a search in Windows Explorer for it's location and post back with the results so we can be sure it is not malware related.
The problem will be re-installing the AOpen software may wipe all your data on that machine and take it back to Day One status.
What is it you need to do using the AOpen utilities ? ?
Perhaps there is another way...Wow! I didn't expect such a rapid response. Thank you.
I'm not really sure what I am supposed to be checking but Opencliba.dll is in the AOpen folder. Is that the answer you were looking for?
I don't really need to get into the AOconfig I was just frustrated and wanted to get something on this machine fixed. Then you said the M word! I better start from the top.
I am working on an Acer P2-300 Celeron Model AX6LC Revision 1.XX with 32MB RAM and Win98se. This is when most people say "get a new computer or OS" and they stop listening. Being on a pension, neither is an option for her and at my our ages the philosophy of getting rid of something just because it is old is not one we could support! So, if you are still with me here is what I have done.
First I updated Windows. Then I cleaned Temp files, Outlook, Add/remove, Startup and the registry. Then I ran Scandisk and defragged. This GAINED a lot of speed and I was hopeful. So I downloaded Avast but when I tried to UPDATE the definitions it had to retry with every package until over two hours later (yes I have dialup) the memory was too full to execute the command. That's when I downloaded Spybot and Superantispyware but when I try to run them they just stop responding. So I tried every on and offline scanner that Major Geeks recommended. If they would run on 98 they just didn't find anything. I know I have been hijacked at least once. What popped up on my screen is not something I am likely to forget soon.
That's when I decided to turn my attention to something else before I gave the computer flying lessons. So here I am back at the malware issue and I don't know what else to try. And by the way, I am posting from my computer which is clean and protected.
Well, this is turning into a novel and I am so worn out on the topic that I don't even know what to ask, except... maybe...HELP!!!
Thank you for being there so that I could share my woes and feel that there was some Hope for this Computer. (and me!)No need to replace the PC, but adding some memory will help the PC a lot, I'm sure at your age your aware how valuable memory can get

Most of the anti-spyware applications out today a resource hungry, using fancy graphics skins and so forth (which I don't agree with myself- the app is supposed to clean the PC of infections, not look pretty!)- which is causing issues with your limited RAM.

I ran my old AMD 350Mhz K6-2 with 98SE and 32MB of RAM, and I got by just fine, but I couldn't believe the improvement when I upgraded to 256MB, and after that when I maxed it out to 512MB.

When I had 32MB of RAM, it was at a premium, so in general it';s best OT avoid running more then one or two "heavyweight" application at a time- Word, Excel, Internet Explorer, etc (pretty much any app, really)-

Additionally at the time the PC was not connected to the internet so I was relieved of the burden of a AV solution running in the background- in this case since you are on dial-up and need to connect to access the internet it should be safe for you to disable the background scanner of your antivirus (at least until you upgrade the RAM); as long as you are understandably cautious browsing the web, you should be fine.

failing anything else- I recommend acquiring a Windows 98SE CD, so that you may perform a clean install of your OS- (if we cannot find an alternate solution)- In the extreme case, you could actually go back to windows 95; finding that will be harder then finding a 98SE CD, and both MIGHT be equal in price to a RAM upgrade, which would likely allow the PC to run the scans you are trying to run.

Trust me when I say I don't believe a computer can ever go obsolete; after all, the first IBM-PC was touted as being able to run word processors and spreadsheets; today's computers are used to run word processors and spreadsheets with fancy graphics, which is pretty much the difference- how adding a pretty menu or design to the interface makes the previous iteration obsolete seems like a specious claim

Sorry... I have a tendency to ramble about things... Thanks for the giggle BC_P. I will look into the cost of curing Alzheim HZ disease.
I completely agree about utilities and feel the same about spouses. If they look pretty and speak many languages but won't work you may as well uninstall them.
I run only Explorer and systems tray and one app. at a time. I have been trying to run the scan at fileresearchcenter.com to see if something else is running that I don't know about but it seems to be a very busy site and I have had no luck yet. Oh, and I don't have an AV yet.
In a world where people don't have time to write a whole word, completing a thought may seem like a ramble, but I don't think so.
While I am here I may as well ask another question.
When Internet Explorer is processing the indicator alternates between the globe and a yellow and purple ball. Does anyone have any idea what is going on there? How do you go about un-installing a spouse ? ?
Just curious.... It may be not that easy....

Husband 1.0

Last year a friend of mine upgraded from BoyFriend 1.0 to Husband 1.0 and found that it's a memory hog, leaving very little system resources available for other applications.

She is now noticing that Husband 1.0 is also spawning Child Processors which are further consuming valuable resources. No mention of this particular phenomena was included in the product brochure or the documentation, though other users have informed her that this is to be expected due to the nature of the application.

Not only that, Husband 1.0 installs itself such, that it is always launched at system initialization, where it can monitor all other system activity. She's finding that some applications such as SpendingSpree 2.4, GirlsNight 3.5 and CocktailNight 7.0 are no longer able to run in the system at all, crashing the system when selected (even though they always worked fine before).

During installation, Husband 1.0 provides no option as to the installation of undesired Plug-ins such as MotherInLaw 5.8 and BrotherInLaw Beta release. Also, system performance seems to diminish with each passing day.

Some features she'd like to see in the upcoming Husband 2.0 include:

1. A "Yes I'll cook, clean etc." button.
2. An install shield feature that allows Husband 2.0 be installed with the option to uninstall at anytime without the loss of cache and other system resources.

I myself decided to avoid the headache associated with Husband 1.0 by sticking with BoyFriend 2.0. Even here, however, I found many problems.

Apparently you cannot install BoyFriend 2.0 on top of BoyFriend 1.0; each program begins damaging the other. You must uninstall BoyFriend 1.0 first. Other users say this is a long standing bug that I should have known about. You'd think they would have fixed such a stupid bug by now! To make matters worse, the uninstall program for BoyFriend 1.0 doesn't work very well, leaving undesirable traces of the application in the system.

Another thing--all versions of BoyFriend 1.0 continually popup little annoying messages about the advantages of upgrading to Husband 1.0.

Bug Warning
Husband 1.0 has an undocumented bug. If you try to install Lover 1.1 before uninstalling Husband 1.0, Husband 1.0 will delete MS Clothing allowance files, before doing the uninstall himself.

More applications that won't run with Husband 1.0 include Chippendale 2.0, Netballwatching 3.5, Suremoreshoes 6.0, and Cleanup 4.3.

Applications that run very well with Husband 1.0, however, include Bummingaround 1.0, Pubnight 2.3, Golfing 2.7, Pokernight 5.3, and Wanderingeyes 4.9.I do hope the question was just due to curiosity and not a complete systems crash.
How to Uninstall Spouse
-Before uninstalling Spouse you should check options and settings as well as looking for updates and patches that may fix known bugs.
-If that does not help, installing Divorce Lawyer 1 is often necessary. Other than Offspring 2.5 this is probably the most resource hungry program you will ever encounter.
-When asked if you want to remove all of Spouse’s components it is often best to click yes even if you lose some documents that took long hours of work to create. You can always create new (and perhaps even better) ones.

Nicely Done !
And Welcome to CH ! Thank you for the warm welcome and may I say how nice it is to talk with people who understand my sillycon sense of humour.
There is something that has been puzzling me since I started working on this darn computer and my curiosity has gotten the better of me.
Here is a picture of the C drive;
Archive 238 MB 45 folders 481 files
My Docu. 3.14MB 5 folders 192 files
Programs 308MB 247 folders 1,612 files
Test 413MB 297 folders 4,670 files
Win98se 203MB 68 folders 1,063 files
Windows 254MB 200 folders 2,485 files
WU Temp 15.2MB 1 folder 16 files
And a couple dozen files ( some of which have 0 bytes? Can I remove these?)
The contents of “Test” include a complete copy of “Windows” and copies of files in Archive and Program files. This, to me, seems rather redundant and space wasting.
What is the purpose of “Test” and is it necessary? Could I remove the extra copy of windows without messing something up?

How big is your hard drive, and how much of a free space, you have left?
I have no clue what "Test" folder is for.It has 3GB hard drive and it has 50% free.Download, and install PrintFolder: http://no-nonsense-software.com/freeware/
It'll install as an option under right click menu.
Right click on "Test" folder, click "Print folder".
New window will open with the content of "Test" folder.
Make sure "Subfolders" box is checked.
Go File>Save, and save the file to know location.
Attach the file to your next reply. Thank you so much for the link Broni. It was a lot easier than typing out the short list of what is in C! Here is the content of Test.
I delete the copies of Hearts, Solitaire, FreeCell and Mine Sweeper that were in Test and after FIXING the shortcuts they are working just fine. I was just wondering how dependant they were on each other and it would appear that they aren't at all. I'm still baffled!
I hope this attachment sheds some light on the subject.

Hmmmm....it looks like regular Windows folder.
It looks like you have two parallel Windows installations, one in Windows folder, one in Test folder.
Did you buy the computer as a used one?

Solve : Will Micro$oft ever learn to ask first??

Answer»

On my Vista, I upgraded Internet Explorer to ver. 8 last night, and without even asking, IE made itself my default browser.
Obviously, Firefox is my regular browser.
Why won't Micro$oft stop pissing people off?
I guess, they'll never change without some court order.
In Europe, they're able to teach Micro$oft some manners, why not here, in US?
Well, most Americans are busy and don't notice changes in BROWSERS. Others just don't care.I installed it too through Windows Update a few DAYS ago, but I knew it was happening.

It came up like a normal INSTALLER, asking me what to import, and if I want it as default browser.

Solve : Error Message: "flash.ocx"?

Answer»

I get the error message "Cannot find the file flash.ocx" intermittently on my screen. What is causing this and how can I resolve it, pls? When does it happen?Ok, that file is for the ActiveX control of Flash. For some reason the file is missing on your machine, and is not getting installed when you install Flash. I think there is a problem with Internet Explorer 7, because it turns out MILLIONS of people have had this problem and it is because of an update MICROSOFT provided for Internet Explorer 7.

You need to get that file from Adobe (they own Flash), by Searching Google, Microsoft or some other website, just so long as you get it and put it in this folder C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromedia or C:\WINDOWS\system32\Adobe depending on which version you have, BECUASE Adobe later bought Macromedia and changed it.

After you get that file, move it to one of those folders, restart your computer for good measure, and then it should work fine.

P.S. Make SURE you get the file that is for your Operating System.

Yeah, give tthat a shot but I don't know if it would solve your problem because I'm not at your pc and can't check it out for you....The error message appears randomly, irrespective of the program I am running.

I will SEARCH and install the file and send the result.good luck. the instructions I gave worked on my previous pc that I had I did as instructed and the error message has not appeared so far.
Thanks.

Solve : General question about Folders?

Answer»

Hi,

I have a Folder on my desktop that looks empty, but is saying it has a File inside. I THINK I have ENABLED Hidden Files but I still can't see anything. It's strange, I created a new Folder to test & it says the Folder is empty, but this one says there is a 6 KB file inside. Any ideas??

Cheers.A hidden file will still show up like a transparent image. Hidden files just stop you SEARCHING for them. It's 6kb though so its abviously a written notepad or something with barely any info on it. If it bothers you just delete the folder and that will delete the 6kb of what ever it is.A SYSTEM file...by default, your computer can't see system files...look for (Recommended) in the window where you can choose to see hidden files and folders. Thanks!

Solve : how to reset a Larscom Terra MUX unit?

Answer»

Can someone please tell me how to reset a Larscom CSU/DSU unit back to default settings? A former employee has set a password on the device and we need to get in to so some tweaking on the unit for troubleshooting purposes. Does anyone know how to do so?
I have searched high and low on the internet. The easy thing to do would purchase a CSU/DSU card, but we are not allowed to do so...Have you tried contacting the manufacturer for support? Or, look for a manual on the device....I'm not familiar with these devices but maybe there is a BIOS FlASH available from the manufacturer........That will most likely rid the old password...

even if it is the SAME BIOS version, FLASHING the BIOS will could rid the old password, as Flashing a PC motherboard would do the same.Believe me, I have contacted the manufacturer and have looked to the end of the internet with no luck... this is my last hope before I take this unit out to the parking lot and run it over with my truck. Is the CSU/DSU a card in a computer, or it's own unit?
Since this involves circumventing a password i'm afraid we are limited in what advice would be proper to give...
Since also it was done by a former Employee why would you not be allowed to BUY the card to rectify the ISSUE ? ?

I think there may be more to this story...It is its own unit.

PATIO - Since I am not in charge of our budget and we are not allowed to purchase any more equipment, I have to make use of what we have. Trust me, I would rather just purchase a new router with a CSU card. I am not a hacker or trying to circumvent any security. Any attempt by me to do so, would cause me to lose my job and security access. The former employee was actually a contractor and I am a state employee.I am slab's counterpart, we've called verilink (ctdi) who bought out larscom. They emailed us a reset that doesn't work on that model CSU/DSU, so we called again, the engineer said that he was going to get one of those models and play with it then call us back. Haven't heard back from him. As for the former employee, we've tried to contact them, but where there contract wasn't RENEWED, well take a guess.

Solve : SATA II bacwards compatibility?

Answer»

I have a new motherboard suitable for SATA II, but it doesn't seem to recognize my old SATA I hard disk, whose data I want to copy into my new HD. What can I do?SATA is backwards compatible, so that's not the issue. Check your connections, make sure everything's seated properly. Check your bios and see if it recognizes the DRIVE.
After you've done that, open up the computer management console (Right click My Computer, click Manage) and check Disk Management to see if it is in the list and accessible.Thank you for your reply. I was using a so called "carry disk" device. I tried instead direct connections and can read the disk alright. I have to find out what is the TROUBLE with this device, because I want to be able to interchange disks easily. Best regards.Quote from: coco on October 02, 2009, 06:50:04 PM

...I was using a so called "carry disk" device...
Never heard of one. What is it?A "carry disk" is a two piece device. The FEMALE piece is fitted into the computer. The male piece is like a little drawer, where a hard disk is located, and can be inserted or plugged into the computer, or you can carry it to another computer suitable fitted to receive it. If this explanation is not enough, I could send you further references or even a picture of it.Quote

I tried the emules FAQ and opened the TCP and UDP ports as instructed (at least I think I did it correctly) but it still doesn't work.

I'm not trying to be rude but this is the DUMBEST THING you can do with p2p software. You need to lock everything down as tight as you can, not open it up. You're opening up your COMPUTER for all sorts of attacks, stealing of your personal information and software keys. Windows included. Did you download it from emule.com? See here. http://www.mywot.com/en/scorecard/emule.com The real website is http://www.emule-project.net/

Best advice, get better p2p software. One that installs and works without opening new ports.

Solve : IE8?

Answer»

i had IE7 until one day there was a BUNCH of WINDOWS updates for me to download.........and IE8 was one of those updates. i mostly play games (pogo etc.) and find that frequently the game sites do not recognize that i'm online. pogo has suggested that i install firefox to make the games run better but i'm nervous about changing the email programs and everything. i have cable modem. ANYWAY, if i delete IE8, will i still have IE7?? was IE8 just a bunch of add-ons to IE7?? i have windows XP home and SP3 thanksIf you uninstall IE8 you will still have IE7thank you AllanSureallan.....i WENT to control panel and was about to delete IE8 when a window popped up to show me a rather long list of programs, games, hotfixes . and updates that have been installed after IE8 was installed. they noted that any of those things might not make it through the uninstall of "8".
is running IE7 a stupid idea...concidering all the hassles of dumping "8"?? should i just shuffle along with IE8 and quit looking for trouble ?? maybe there are some upgrades for ie8 that will convince these game folks that i really am online..

and pogo wants me to turn off the clock in the sys tray or be ejected from the gin game where the turns are timed. how do i do that??I don't see any reason not to uninstall IE8 - I can't think of what would not work if you do. BUT - if I were you I'd just leave IE8 ALONE and install Firefox as a second browser. Most people do that. There is certainly nothing to be nervous about - you are not "changing" anything, just adding an additional browser which you can use instead of - or with - IE8 any time you like. Personally I have multiple browsers on most of my systems (IE8, Firefox, Opera, Safari).do you have 4 javas installed or do all your browsers work with the same one?? i had some difficulty after installing "8" and was told by a tech that the latest version of java (update 16)was not going to work well in my set-up and that i needed to delete "16" and put update 13 back in. i did that and the problem(i forget what it was now) went away. will it be possible to have the update 16 java installed with firefox..... and keep update 13 installed with IE8??
dang....now all this is sounding wwwaaaaayyyyyy more complicated than i can manage. please say that the java i HAVE is enough.Don't worry about java. Just download and install Firefox.thank you. i'll leave you alone now. sorry for being such a painYou're not a pain, but you are a worrier. No need to take something simple and make it complicated. Thanks in advance

KenJust to clarify KenM.

First question would be where are the watchdog alerts coming from? Are the titled Windows Live or are they from a Antivirus product you have installed?

I know of Windows Live Alerts (http://windowslivealerts.spaces.live.com/) but i didnt think they prompted for Security information changes!

It sounds to me like this could be a Virus!! You may want to re-post your question in the Spyware Section of this Forum! Many thanks for getting back ourfear. I ended up accepting th eprompts generated by "Watchdog" and there has been no impact. I really don't think I have a virus and have scanned with MALWAREBYTES and also avast as well as a registry software and nothing found.

Just a little naive and cautious I think....probably not a bad way to be with the exposure we all face online.

Thanks againWindows Live is being ABANDONED by Microsoft...

Watchdog is possibly a rogue program...best way to tell is if they ask for MONEY...

I suspect you are infected and you should visit our Virus and Spyware section and follow the info on posting your logs...

Solve : How to be a good tech??

Answer»
I'm working on making the transition from hospitality to IT. I am currently halfway through a community college series for A+, Network+. I have a good idea on what needs to be done to pass the cert. test, but I wanted to know what I can do to build my knowledge and experience. My fear is being on of the A+ techs with the book knowledge and little HANDS on experience.

My To-Do List:
  • Get a cheap system from Craigslist for working on, upgrading, installing/uninstalling software on.
    Learn Win7
Volunteer at a couple of places to build experience

I'd love advice on:

  • What are good sources for find solutions or building knowledge? books, blogs, sites, podcasts?
What would a good tech do in the first week?
    Any Tricks of the Trade?
    Suggestions on the NEXT certification?

Any and all feedback is greatly apperciated. Check this out:
http://www.professormesser.com/
tons of videos and practice tests to help you. Personally the secret to being a good tech (I am currently an IT for a logistics company) is always be prepared to learn something new, and when you do write it down. There are a lot of little tricks for every problem\issue, but you have to learn them as you go along. I have an A4 counter book that goes every where with me at work. When I discover a new trick I write it in my book for future reference.

Also remember that good customer service is a big + in IT, and that doesn't mean just getting the job done on time.
Next certification: it DEPENDS on what direction you want to go, but a good starting place (I think) is one of the Microsoft certifications

Good luck!!!! Get yourself some Cisco gear and start playing around with network configurations. Download trial version of Windows Server 2008 R2 and play around with it in virtual machines.
Also check out www.cbtnuggets.com. If you can afford the SUBSCRIPTION, it is absolutely worthwhile. If not, you could just get the Cisco videos.
Thanks for the advice. I have a feeling I'll be watching SEVERAL videos in the near future.

I also started the advice on keeping notes at the hotel I'm working.

Solve : Source Code?

Answer»

What is the importance of a source code?Source code from what little I know, is the code that programmers use to make a programme perform certain actions. Or in other words it is a collection of the programmes files that allow what we can read to be converted into what the computer can read. So very important, you would say INTEGRAL to a programme.
I'm probably not explaining this too well as I have only just started programming TCL myself. I know just the man who could explain this perfectly, so when I see him I will point out the thread.

He was not asking us to create a code or work on something he can't answer, he asked a question that is quite valid.

Solve : What to study next?

Answer»

Hey

I need some help with what to study next. My boss WANTS to send me to study but has limited me a bit. Currently I am a technician, I have DONE my A+ and N+, is there anything else I can do within technical?
They wont send me for anything SERVER related or programming related.

Is there anything else to do....

Thanks!
The next logical step, going from the certifications that you've already got, would be CCNA or something along those lines. I suppose being as your boss is sending you on courses, then the next course would have to do with your job, which you havn't stated. Learning something that makes you an invaluble part of the company/office, maybe. Get your CCNA. A Cisco certification is one of the most important/helpful certifications you can get.

Call Samsung, tell them your problem and see if they have a SOLUTION.

Ok, since it seems like the color / glow is wanted OVERALL by the community they have both been enabled. Since the BBC CODE for glow is pretty hard to REMEMBER (IMO) the button for that should be visible, the BBC color is also enabled. HOWEVER, is only accessible through the BBC code, as in below example, where xxxx is the name of the color.

Code: [Select]color example
Enjoy. better than nothing - THANKS Nathan

Solve : How to transfer the contacts.?

Answer» HELLO Everybody,

I have written 220 contacts of mine in excel sheet. and now i have bought new phone NOKIA 2690..
so could any one pls guide me how do i put all the contacts in my phone through computer directly.

Regards.
AnjeepI do not have the phone you are TRYING to transfer your contacts from your computer to. However it occurs to me as with many other devices you will NEED to "sync" your phone to your computer and then transfer your data. Here is a link to software that will allow you to do that and many other functions. I would be surprised if you do not already have that software provided with your phone. If you do you need to install it on your computer. If you don't have it then hopefully this link will PROVIDE it to you.

truenorthI have never transfered contacts from computer to cell phone but truenorth's advice seems most likely right on target.

I do not believe you'll be able to import directly from the Excel file to your cell phone. My guess is that you will need to import the Excel contacts list into the software you install, the software suggested by truenorth. Once you get the contacts data into the software on your computer, then you can proceed to transfer the contacts to your cell phone or, in other, synchronize your computer and phone.

Solve : avi files to watch on a DVD player?

Answer»

Copied a movie AVI file to a VLC media player. Good quality watching on my computer. Now want to watch it on TV through my Sony DVD player. Sony manual says it supports DivX. Dowloaded DivX CONVERTOR and copied film to DivX. Followed process to burn onto a DVD but to no avail. Using DVD-RW. Totally confused. Any help would be very much appreciated . Thanks Sounds like all you did was copy the file...did you convert it ? ?Many DVD players now support playing MPEG-4 DivX or Xvid video files. My Toshiba that cost 39 UK pounds can do this. You have to burn a data disk with the files on it. You are NOT burning a video DVD. If the file was an AVI file it would probably play just as it was, without being run through the DivX converter.
a question: does it matter if you burned to DVDRW or DVDR? I remember hearing something about some players not liking DVDRW for some reason or another? There is often a lot of confusion between codecs, like DivX and containers, like .AVI, so it's a good idea to have some good reading about it: http://www.differencebetween.net/technology/difference-between-divx-and-avi/

Quote

DivX is a codec used to compress the video depending on how small the user wants it to. The Audio Video Interleave or AVI is a container format where the compressed audio and video files are stored in.

1. AVI is a container format while DivX is a codec for compressing video files
2. DivX was created by DivX Inc. while AVI is from Microsoft
3. DivX dictates how the video is coded while AVI is responsible for how the data is stored along with other related information
4. DivX and AVI are not exclusive or inclusive of each other. A DivX video might be in another container and an AVI file might have a video that was not encoded in DivX

does it matter if you burned to DVDRW or DVDR?
All NEWER DVD players should recognize both.Another convenient way of watching movies from computer AVI format is to used a DVD Player that is USB capable. To avoid the burning and purchasing CDs everytime you feel like watching a movie. Just Plug and Play. http://hubpages.com/hub/dvd-players-with-usbI see some files of .avi format requiring divx codec to watch. I see some files of .divx extension. They the one and same?Quote
I see some files of .divx extension
Maybe someone renamed them, because, it's not correct extension.Quote from: Broni on October 04, 2010, 06:26:00 PM

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DivX

Quote
DivX Media Format (DMF)
DivX Media Format DivX media container icon
Filename extension .divx
Type code DIVX
Developed by DivX, Inc.
Type of format media container
Container for MPEG-4 Part 2–compliant video
Extended from AVI

DivX 6 expanded the scope of DivX from including just a codec and a player by adding an optional media container format called "DivX Media Format" ("DMF")[11] (with a .divx extension) that includes support for the following DVD-Video and VOB container like features. This media container format is used for the MPEG-4 Part 2 codec.

* DivX Media Format (DMF) features:
o Interactive video menus
o Multiple subtitles (XSUB)
o Multiple audio tracks
o Multiple video streams (for special features like bonus/extra content, just like on DVD-Video movies)
o Chapter points
o Other metadata (XTAG)
o Multiple format
o Partial backwards compatibility with AVI

This new "DivX Media Format" also came with a "DivX Ultra Certified" profile, and all "Ultra" certified players must support all "DivX Media Format" features. While video encoded with the DivX codec is an MPEG-4 video stream, the DivX Media Format is ANALOGOUS to media container formats such as Apple's QuickTime. In much the same way that media formats such as DVD specify MPEG-2 video as a part of their specification, the DivX Media Format specifies MPEG-4-compatible video as a part of its specification. However, despite the use of the ".divx" extension, this format is an extension to the AVI file format. The methods of including multiple audio and even subtitle tracks involve storing the data in RIFF headers and other such AVI hacks which have been KNOWN for quite a while, such that even VirtualDubMod supports them. DivX, Inc. did this on purpose to keep at least partial backwards compatibility with AVI, so that players that do not support the new features available to the .divx container format (like interactive menus, chapter points and XSUB subtitles) can at least play that primary video stream (usually the main movie if the DMF file contains multiple video streams like special features like bonus materials). Of course, the DivX codec and tools like Dr. DivX still support the traditional method of creating standard AVI files.
Aha...
Thanks for the update. I wasn't aware of it And let's not confuse the DivX Codec with the ill-fated DIVX pay-per-view DVD format.Quote from: BC_Programmer on October 05, 2010, 05:37:18 PM
