Solve : About the latter strokes of typing a long post, also in profile settings??

Answer»

Why does this forum allow a certain amount of text to be entered while composing a post or entering text into the 'signature' section, then, after whatever amount is the limit, 12 lines I guess, it starts making you scroll down to the latter section after every single key stroke. It sure irritates me. Does anyone else experience this or do I just type too much? I haven't ever had this problem on any other forum that I can remember. I remember reading a thread somewhere around here where somebody commented on a post as being the longest post ever on this board. I think it was bc programmer but I can't remember.
That post was like 30-40 lines or something if I remember right.
Why can't I compose a post containing approximately 25 lines and spaces without having to spend hours chasing the veiw of those latter lines for editing purpose, or, just simply trying to see what I'm typing?
Is this some setting I have wrong on all 10+ PC's I use to access this site?

I don't mean to complain, but I've worked 7 days, 10-12 hrs for many weeks now and have to sacrifice sleep and other needed functions of my life to log onto CH. I log on because this board is like a home to me. Many cyber friends here for 4 years now and I thank you all. But it took me 2+ hrs to post my thread about my latest PC I got today. It's just the SMF forum MO I guess, but If somebody can fix this, or explain the reason for the settings being as they are, I'll promise to try to keep my post shorter, when applicable.
Well, there this samme problem goes again, I can't see what I'm typing and I'm not going to chasdse this posst . Sorry about the long postg agin but

lectrocrew, I believe I know what you're trying to explain and I've experienced it and I agree it's very annoying. This reply will be short so it will not cause the problem you're describing since, as you've said, it occurs when the text being typed for a reply exceeds 12 or so lines.

Well, let me ramble on here just to make this reply longer and see whether it happens for me now. You mentioned this happen on every computer you've tried and you've tried quite a few. What browser do you use? And, what's your OS? And, do you get a scroll bar on the right side of the message composition box when your typed text (along with any quoted CONTENT) exceeds 12 lines or so?

The problem is not happening for me as I type this. And, this reply is not long enough that it would be happening if it were to occur. Now that I think about it, I believe I may not have experienced the problem since the recent upgrade of the SMF software used for this forum. Also, I'm using Firefox 3.6.10 to type this and my Firefox was updated to this version perhaps about the same time as the forum software update. So, I can't say for sure why I'm not experiencing the problem now but, indeed, it's not happening as I type this using Firefox 3.6.10 on my Windows 7 computer. People keep bringing this up and I have yet to experience what they are referring to, and considering the length of a lot of my replies, you'd imagine I would have encountered it.

Therefore, the best conclusion I can think of is the issue is at least partially on the client-side (browser, OS, etc) In fact, I do recall Nathan noting that it was related to IE in some way quite some time ago. No idea if that is the case now.

I know it at least happens on IE6; not sure about later versions. It doesn't happen to everyone. I experienced it with IE (ver 7 & 8 ) but have not had it happen with Firefox.Quote from: soybean on October 01, 2010, 09:35:02 PM

I'm working out of town living in a motel so I only have 1 notebook and 1 desktop with me right now. The notebook has XP Pro SP-3, IE8 and Firefox 3.6.10 - The desktop has XP SP-3 and IE8.
But I have seen this issue in the past with my other PC's. My self-built desktop runs Vista X64 and my Dell runs Windows 7.

And yes there is an active scroll bar (there is always a scroll bar but the scroll arrows remain inactive until text box content exceeds the alloted space in the basic text box). If there were no scroll bar then there would be no way to view or edit the content of the text located below the allotted basic veiw of the original text box size. - This problem exist only when the amount of text entered exceeds the space in the basic text box, then, with every stroke of the keyboard, the text box goes BACK to that basic box veiw (automatically scrolls to top).

Another issue I think is related, and for those of you who have not had issues concerning this - try this:

Ok it just now started doing this with my reply I'm trying to post so I'll explain the rest in the next reply.

Actually I just popped open IE to check and it happens there. doesn't happen in FF, that's why I've never experienced it.

It's a problem with the javascript, or how IE's textarea responds to it; OnChange is linked to a function called storecaret, which looks like this:

Code: [Select]function storeCaret(oTextHandle)
{
// Only bother if it will be useful.
if ('createTextRange' in oTextHandle)
oTextHandle.caretPos = document.selection.createRange().duplicate();
}

Seems that when you set the caret position, the textbox REVERTS to the top, at least with IE's implementation. I'm guessing if a fix were to be implemented it would probably somehow save the scroll position and then set it after setting the caret Position.Another issue I think is related, and for those of you who have not had issues concerning this - try this:

Open your profile > settings > modify profile > forum profile, (where you enter your signature) *NOTE: back up the contents in the signature box with Notepad so you can re-enter after this test.
The text limit in that box is set to 500 (characters, spaces ect). Clear the contents in that box (right click > select all > right click > cut) then go to the bottom of the page and click change profile.
Now go back and enter 475 characters, spaces (whatever text is fine just for this test). Now click on change profile again at the bottom of the page.
Now go back to that text box and try scrolling down to the latter text.
Does the scroll bar keep trying to return to top?BC, You posted before I could type my next reply, my typing teacher would not approve.
But I'm glad we have you guru's to fix issues like this (whatever a caret is ).
Thanks!!!Quote from: BC_Programmer on October 02, 2010, 07:48:55 PM

I just "popped open" Firefox and it doesn't happen. I never realized it was an issue that only happens with IE.
I like Firefox but it doesn't function correctly with some secure sites I go to for my business so I kind of got in the habit of using IE lately. Quote from: lectrocrew on October 02, 2010, 07:41:52 PM

I, too, have noticed this with IE, and it's a real PIA. I use IE on one computer and FF on the other. Only place I've seen it occur is CH Forums.I'm now looking at IE's message box, there are 2 small parallel lines at the bottom middle of the box that allow you to stretch the vertical size of the box. This seems to remedy the situation (at least for the 1 post).

Good eye!!! That certainly works fine for the one post. I don't see the lines in the BOXES in the profile settings though.
Thanks for the heads-up Commando !

Solve : Which laptop is the best??

Answer»

Hey, you guys! I really want a laptop for Christmas, but I'm not sure which one to get. My friend says I should get a Macbook Pro, but it just looks too fragile to me. Plus I've heard the battery life isn't all that great.
So, I need one that has a pretty GOOD amount of memory, good battery life, and isn't too expensive. I'm going to be putting my animations for YouTube on it and all my drawings and MAYBE some of my stories so I'm gonna need room.
Any suggestions? I honestly recommend the MacBook Pro, and if not that, the MacBook.

It is possibly the sturdiest notebook ever made, and by no means fragile.
It uses a uni-body frame (Google it) which makes it studier than earlier models and cheaper.

As for battery life, it can get up to 5-6 hours, far more than the competition, which is pretty sparse, considering it's the most pwerful notebook ever built...Does it have to be a Mac?Quote from: Dudeoxide guy

Does it have to be a Mac?

On that note, I'd recommend a Hewlett-Packard or IBM laptop, with XP (I suppose Vista, but wouldn't recommend it), anything else is essentially crap.Quote from: Austin H on November 22, 2008, 08:37:25 PM

Quality of the product.

That and credibility, IBM is about fifty years old and have been supplying quality PCs since 1981 with the original IBM-PC (I don't know that much about the history of Hewlett-Packard, but I know they did employ a young Steve Wozniak in 1973-75 (YES the products are good) and in the end, that's credible enough for me.

Companies like Acer and Dell make very cheap products and a lot of them (right now Dell has 26 laptops available) which fall apart or BREAK not long after they're purchased, I know this from experience with Dell, I went through 3 Dells before purchasing a Hewlett-Packard laptop and later a MacBook.

In the computer industry, you can never trust anyone under thirty. (This is why Microsoft just doesn't sit well with me)HP laptops are notorious for their overheating, and dell for their bad quality, but what about the other companies?
My cousin has an Acer laptop and it's gone through *censored* and it's still working.

Then there are other laptop companies.....such as:
Lenovo
Ausus
Fijitsu
Compaq
Gateway
Toshiba

Those are just some of the main brands.

I myself have a Lenovo (formally IBM) and I have no problems with it at all.

Don't judge Windows laptops just because you don't like Dell.

Quote
In the computer industry, you can never trust anyone under thirty.
Heh, Apple is currently 32 years old. Yes, it is (technically 31 from the IPO, but it was active as early as 1975 with the the two Steves building the Apple I, but officially it's 32 years old) and until about two years ago I hated Apple, mainly from ignorance and the hate of conforming to the "IPOD Nation", but changed my mind when I got one. It was one of the best things I've ever had. In only minutes I want from a kid who hated Apple simply for it's popularity with the iPod, to an Apple fan-boy. Soon after, I became a hardcore Macintosh fan-boy, with a passion. I hated Microsoft for about a year, until some personal events took place and I've grown to acccept them as an decent company, though still second to Apple, but it'll still be a few years before they're legitimate in my book.

Along with the "under 30 = worthless" idea, two years ago, Apple only had about 8-9% market share in the computer industry, in the time since then, they sky-rocketed to a current Market share of 19-20% (with a whole 3.5% in the past 3 or 4 months).

IBM was thirty years old (about, I'm not going to look it up) when they released the IBM-PC, it sold for $10,000 and outsold Apple's Apple ][ (the only competition) which sold for about $1,500 by almost 80%. All of this supports the equation: Company > 30 = Success.Anyone bashing laptop brands needs to realise companies do not always make their own laptops.
The same OEM parts may be shipped to MSI, Dell, Falcon NW, Alienware and HP, who will then all rebrand it, customize it a little, mark up the price and sell it on.
Also, I've had no trouble with Dell laptops, I've found they're generally quite sturdy and well-made. The MSI-based laptop I have has been pretty bad for me, and don't get me started on the broken IBM under my bed.
It all depends on the OEM and the reseller's service quality.I've found the Business line of Dell laptops to be near bulletproof...i show them to Dell bashers all the time. The business laptops are great, I agree.
I especially like the Vostro lineup.Quote from: Noodles949 on November 22, 2008, 06:19:40 PM
So, I need one that has a pretty good amount of memory, good battery life, and isn't too expensive.
Even laptops/notebooks at the low end of the price spectrum are now sporting 2GB of RAM, which should be plenty for most users. One brand that hasn't been mentioned here is Acer. I just browsed newegg.com and saw this, which looks like a great deal: Acer Aspire AS4530-5627 NoteBook AMD Mobile Athlon 64 X2 QL-60(1.90GHz) 14.1" Wide XGA 2GB Memory 160GB HDD DVD Super Multi NVIDIA GeForce 9100M G - Retail. It's currently available for $449 and, out of 50 user reviews posted, has a 92% 5-star rating. You don't see that very often. I have an older Toshiba and it has been a workhorse!! I love it, and Toshiba's are very affordable.Same with me- and by older I mean a 440CDX, manufactured 1996. Still works, having trouble with it's CD-ROM drive though, which I imagine is to be expected. It was upgraded to 98SE at some point.

I also have a IBM thinkpad- AC adapter failed. have to use dock 1 to run it.
Still runs DOS 2000 flawlessly, and wfwg 3.11

last formatted 1996... both of them...

In any case- I'm looking to purchase one next week- can't buy online though So I'll have to go to future shop.

Saw one for 299$ in a flyer- with wireless-N, but I'm going for another Toshiba Satellite- Just want Wireless-N to go with my router... Can't remember the price, but I'll have about a grand to drop on one.

Where is your evidence to support that Acer laptop's break all the time?!
I have had mine for 3 years, and treat it like crap, not once have I had a problem with it.
You talk about Dell's being bad because of your past with them, but not Acer's...
Funny that....

Solve : Identify malicious blogger?

Answer»

There is a person making untrue and malicious comments about me (unregistered and ANONYMOUS) on a public forum message board. Am I ABLE to find their ISP or name anywhere?Talk to the person who manages the forum or website, usually the Administrator, and tell them exactly what is going on.
they will be able to remove the comments, and they may also release information about their identity, if they have it, so you can pursue this issue.
Hope this helps, and welcome to the forums.Quote

Thanks your considered replies.
As the anonymous slurs are read by people within the industry that remunerates me to the extent I can afford to have them ordered to cease and desist I feel it's money well spent. The posts are not 'rumours' my friend. They are defamatory statements purporting to be factual but which can be proven that they are not. The information regarding the possible involvement of the moderator comes from a former member of the moderating team. It is unproven at this stage but certainly worth a look at by the solicitors.
Just to clarify and thanks again.
Oh OK- good luck then. It seems people seem to forget that there are people on the other end of their posts, and can become real jerks. I suppose I kind of did that too... No offence taken and thank your attention and advice.
The "rumour" mill must have been working overtime as the OFFENSIVE posts have been removed (without my contacting the administrator directly) and attacks on myself have ceased. Unfortunate that attacks on another profile coach have now commenced and I've forwarded him my solicitors details.

Solve : problem with script error message?

Answer»

I am new here, and hoping SOMEONE else has had this problem.
I tried to send an internet page from Outlook Express, and WHETHER it was received I don't know, but a copy of the message is in my Sent folder, where it brings up an error message box telling me that there was an error in the scripts on this page, and asks, "Do you WANT to continue running scripts on this page?"
This error message seems to be dysfunctional itself, and clicking on either Yes or No does not GET rid of it. It sits there stubbornly and prevents me from doing anything else on the PC, until I close the whole OE program with Ctrtl-Alt-Delete.
Is there any way I can delete this message, or do I have to tiptoe around it forever? My best computer-savvy friend hasn't been able to help me....Aha! I already figured out the answer: I right-clicked on the Sent *folder* and did a Find SEARCH for the message, and when it was found I was able to delete it right there from the edit menu.
To anyone bothering to read this, Thank you very much anyway! Thanks for posting back with self-solution

Solve : Fiber Optics - Internet speed?

Answer»

Some ISP such as COX or Quest had some kind of
internet speed using Fiber Obtics.. which is obviously
what phonelines/telephone poles use today.. (instead
of wire).

Does anyone here use this kind of internet?
I'd imagine that the only limit to internet speed is the
sever itself.. like whoever hosts 'www.google.com'.

I was just wondering..
Let's see some reviews for people who have it!I think Verizon has that to my neighbors are using that its PRETTY good.I have Fiber Optics from Northwest Internet, a SMALL local company.
I get anywhere from 20MBPS to 60MBPS, usually around 40MBPS.
These are my current stats:

(www.speedtest.net - great speed testing site)
(Remember when WWW used to be something you would capitalize? That was a long time ago..)

It really depends on your service provider, how far away you are from the service provider, and also, how many people are using their CONNECTION. My speeds vary depending on how many people are using the network. According to Northwest Internets website, I can get "Up to 100MBPS"

I don't think this topic is really "off topic", Ill move it into the MAIN "Others" board.

Solve : Colour laser printer problem?

Answer»

HI
Can anyone help me with a printing problem? I have a HP laserjet 1600 running on Windows XP with service pack 2 installed.
The problem is that when I print a document with a lot of red, the colour is faded at the sides of the SHEET but is perfect in the middle. I am using the correct media including genuine HP toner cartridges. I have tried replacing the cartridge but it still happens. It ALSO happens with yellow but not as noticeable when printing stickers etc - yet if I print a yellow filled box in MS Word , it is perfect. If I repeat this with red ie, a rectangle filled in red, the fading occurs! The other colours seem fine.
It doesn't MAKE sense to me.
Can any one advise?
Thanks
PhilJust as a step of troubleshooting, SINCE it could be that both cartridges were not properly proportioned, do the cartridge dance (yes, I do actually call it the "Carthage Dance")

Take the cartridge, and shake it back and forth (not too hard, its kind of like shaking up a 0.5LBS milk carton). This distributes the contents of the cartridge across, so that the outsides, or inside area, are even, and wont have faded marks on the side or middle.

Just a reminder: Dont touch the drum inside, there should be a flap "hiding" it, that's to prevent light from getting in. A small amount of light isn't bad, but, prolonged exposure is a bad thing. (The round bar thing inside)
Hi
Yes, I had already tried that but to no avail.

Any other ideas???

Sounds like something malware would do.

Download and rename TrendMicro HijackThis.exe (HJT)

  • Double-click on HJTInstall.
  • Click on the Install button.
  • It will automatically place HJT in C:\Program Files\TrendMicro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe.
  • Upon install, HijackThis should open for you.
  • Close HijackThis and rename it.
  • Go to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis.exe
  • Right click on HijackThis.exe and select Rename.
  • Type in sniper.exe and press Enter.
  • Right-click on sniper.exe and select Send To > Desktop (create shortcut)
  • From the desktop open HijackThis.
  • Important! If using Windows Vista, Right-click and Run As Administrator
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button
  • HijackThis will scan and then a log will open in notepad.
  • Copy and then PASTE the entire contents of the log in your post.
  • Do not have HijackThis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.
Although we have renamed HijackThis to sniper, we will still REFER to it as HijackThis or HJT.Quote from: hayzay26 on July 25, 2008, 08:05:03 PM

Solve : ~$1000 Pre-Built Computer?

OK, so I know a lot of you GUYS here will say "just build your own computer, bla bla bla" lol. I've been thinking about building one myself but I'm just scared that I won't be able to get it all together and working once I get the parts. So I'm coming here for some help on finding the BEST pre-built gaming computer for around $1000. If anyone could provide a link to something good it would be greatly appreciated .

Thanks.Well, what exactly are you looking for?

The best place to get parts is probably www.newegg.com

I did a quick Google search to find you a tutorial... Check this out: http://www.build-your-own-computers.com/Worth too comparing Newegg with techforless too - between those two there is PLENTY of choice.

Do check out a ''scratch and dent'' section ---- my current HP 4600 was 53% off list price because of a case ding and a badly fitting SIDE panel - looks don't bother me - but function does!

Safe MODE was one of the first things I tried when it started happening. All right, then I would try another keyboard when you get the chance Well, thanks for giving it a try helping me. I'll have to go do that later today and see if it ISNT just the keyboard, which I hope its not SOMTHING expensive, lol. Just try it first, don't buy anything. I meant in the long run. So, I didnt make it to the computer shop, when I got up to run in it randomly started working perfectly fine once again. I dont know why, or for how long, but lets hope it stays that way. *crosses fingers*Sounds like it could be that the keyboard had come loose...

Let us know if it happens again, the keyboard may need to be INTERNALLY disconnected and reconnected to assure its in correctly.

Gah I thought this crap was fixed a while ago... My rock band guitar stopped working completely, it won't connect. Before when the batteries were dead or it was out of range and I pressed the connect button the red light would flash but now it doesn't do anything. This isn't one of the first guitars with the messed up strum problems, it's a newer one with the magnetic sensors. I don't get why this HAPPENED, it was working perfectly fine yesterday. I TRIED putting in new batteries, and the SWITCH on the back IS on. I opened it up and all the wires are ATTACHED. The warranty is expired, since it's 60 days and I bought the game in May. Anyone know how to fix it? Also would it be cheaper to send it to EA or to buy a new one?

FORMATTING a hard drive too many times will cause it to fail.

Truth :
To put it shortly, formatting your hard drive will NOT reduce its lifespan. Yes, formatting is popularly thought to reduce hard drive's lifespan but that is nothing more than a myth.

Formatting is NOT a stressful event for a hard drive. The read/write heads do NOT touch the platter surface, so damage to the platter only occurs if there is any shock to the drive during operation.

You can format your hard drive 20 times a day, 365 days a year and it will be no more likely to fail than a hard drive that is not formatted at all.

Myth #2 :
Formatting a hard drive causes a layer of [material / dust] to be deposited on the platter surface, creating bad sectors.

Truth :
Formatting will not deposit any layer of "anything" on the platter. The read/write heads are not in contact with the platters, so it is physically impossible for them to deposit anything on the platter surface.

In addition, the hard drive is a sealed environment assembled under clean room conditions, so there is very little dust inside the hard drive. Even if there is dust, why would formatting deposit anything on the platter? The platters are constantly spinning - any dust would not be able to deposit itself on the platter, much less create bad sectors or an alien colony.

Myth #3 :
Formatting the hard drive will stress the needle (HEAD ACTUATOR).

Truth :
Formatting is done contiguously. This MEANS formatting is done in a serial order - sector 500, sector 501, sector 502, etc. There is very little movement of the head actuators. Therefore, formatting will NOT stress the head actuators, which is why you don't see jokes about psychiatrists prescribing Prozac to head actuators.

Solve : My Computer will not recognize dvds or cds, says: insert disc or access denied.?

Answer»

Cheers! My Acer computer is less than a year old, I am the only user, I have Windows xp and have Powerdvd . A few months ago, something happened and whenever I load a cd or dvd, a box pops up and SAYS insert disc, either that or access denied. I checked the device manager and it says that everything is running fine. This is driving me batty, please, can someoe help me? Do ALL discs have the problem? What are you trying to do?Thanks for replying. Yes, this is with all discs, all that I am trying to do is either play a music cd, or a dvd movie or DOWNLOAD software from a cd. It doesn't recognize any cd or dvd.I have adaware and Avast, I did have spybot but did not like it that much, Don't KNOW if this is relevant, just thought I would mention it.So the problem started a few months ago?

Can you recall any changes around the time of the problem? (downloads, installs, hardware changes, ect...)

What is the exact error MESSAGE?I just put a disc in, I hear it whirling but nothing is showing up on the screen. I click on the power dvd icon and Powerdvd comes up. I click the play button and a grey box shows up that says:

D:/ is not accessible access is denied.

I try and click the eject button and nothing happens. But I still hear the disc whirling inside the PCBack in Device Manager, are there any Yellow Question/Exclamation Marks anywhere?I Don't recall intalling any new software and such a few months aga, just to note: I have tried the system restore, you know that goes back several months or so, and nothing happens. It doens't restore anything.I just looked in the device manager, there are no yellow question marks. It still says that the device is working properly and to troubleshoot if I have any problems, HOWEVER, the troubleshooting thing is useless, no help at all.I would unplug the power to your computer and then open the case.
Once inside, unplug the CD Drive, and then plug it back in.
Boot the computer and then see how it goes. What might that accomplish? Would that just make it revert back to the original setting?BTW that last comment of mine was not meant to sound smart alec,It's just to make sure nothing is loose or unplugged. ok done, but still the same thing happens when I try and play a disc. This is driving me nuts

Solve : Vertical colored band running through center of monitor?

Answer»

I have about a 2" vertical multi colored band that flickers running through the center of the monitor. I have DOWNLOADED updated drivers, checked registry, checked to be sure everything was plugged in tight, taken the monitor to a repair PLACE who left it running for 24 hours and the problem did not show up. Then took the tower to same place and left it for a day. Problem did not show up. Device manager says video card and monitor are working properly. Repair place wanted to replace video card (over $500) on the premise that it must be that since the monitor showed no problem when left connected so LONG. If it were the video card, why would the device manager say it was working properly? Some days it is FINE and most days the problem occurs. Sony computer, FLAT screen, 3 years old. Any ideas? Thanks.Device Manager isn't always correct diagnosing hardware...
Remove the video card after unplugging all power to the machine...clean the contacts with rubbing alcohol or a pencil eraser and re-install it.
Check to see if the fan on the vid card is running properly as well. Not to mention, checking to make sure the heat sync is clean.

Does this card still have a warranty? I did check to be sure all was clean and the warranty is out on the card. The fan turns around so assume that it works properly. I will clean the contacts as suggested. Thanks.

Solve : Screen Shots?

Answer»

You don't need MS Word for those steps. Just get the image into Paint.

Good Luck.Hi,

I finally got around to trying the cropping. So I brought up msword in the run program. But i initially tried to crop the PHOTO from mspaint. I managed to get to the part where you drag the photo to the upper left. I did those but now I have the photo and the rest of the trimmings on the page. Maybe I should start over and do this from the screen shot. So there's no way to just place the url of a picture in the browse window and capture that pic? Must the picture always be from a photobucket first? You can attach the picture in your next post if you click and then Additional Options under the text-box.Ok, I got your PM.

Below I have a link to a tutorial I made in a program called Wink.
Have a look at it and see how it goes.

If for some REASON you cannot view it, let me know.

http://www.fileupyours.com/files/186352/screenshots.zip
(1.27mb)I'm wondering if i can load it. I have so much on my new computer I think it's about all used up.

About your LAST post the prompts after reply, did you want me to do something with one of the prompts in the tags box? My eyes are truly red and I need to medicate them so I'm out. Thanks Carbon, You're a gem.No, I was just LETTING you know that you didn't have to upload pictures to photobucket.

Try having a look at my tutorial. Ain't big at all, but pretty informative.Hi guys,

Sorry to be away so long. I have cropped that image and I have it in ImageShack in the browse window. What I need is guidance from here to make sure I do everything right.

I am first looking at TAGS, what are they and do I need to do anything with it. I want to use this image as an AVATAR.

Thanks

BTW, When I highlighted the image in the "PICTURES" folder and dragged it to the AOL page top I got "AOL Picture Editor". It allows me to Brighten the pic, remove color, turn it, crop it, red-ee it. So, I used that to do the editting then Saved it. Did I do good. My image is stuck somewhere in limbo. I can't get it on my desk top or anywhere else. When I try I get a pic of a screen saver type of art.

http://my.imageshack.us/v_images.php

I'm trying to set the pic on the left on the desk or in a folder but It comes out as something totally different.Quote from: casse2go on October 08, 2008, 08:26:37 PM

So you have it uploaded to ImageShack?

You don't need to do anything with the tags, they are just to help you if you are searching for a particular picture...

Do you mean an avatar on this forum? Go to your profile and then Forum Profile Information.

Now, go into ImageShack, click the image you want, (it should open) and click on the field "IMG code"...

Now go back to your profile, and check the icon "I have my own pic:", and press CTRL+V, and the URL of the picture should be in the box... Now just save your settings.

Any luck? No KPac, the image isn't for here. I want to post it in a few site but that post is pretty much defunct as Ihit the host it button last night. And now I want to first place it on the desk or in pictures or documents or something.
Please focus on the post following that one.Where have all the helpers gone? Hello, anybody out there?

I just put a video up on You Tube and I can't find it.

It is called Art Movie and when I TYPE that in everything else comes up but my video.
So I thought there would be a Link that says My Videos or something like that but I did not see it.

Can anyone help I need to know how you find your Videos on You Tube?
Thanksgo to your youtube channel by clicking on you username, its at top right of the screen.
or try to search for your video by searching username?Sometimes the video processors can take a long time to actually show your video...
Not only does the video need to be converted, it needs to be added to a few different databasese, given its own little comments system, assigned a page, and indexed.

If you dont see your video WITHIN a day, I would SUGGEST trying to upload it again.

Anyone I still can't find my Video on Youtube.

If I log into my account can I PULL it up somehoe??You bet you can, one moment while I figure out how

Okay, so, first, sign into your account of course.
At the top right hand side of the page, click your username. Your videos will be listed under Videos.

Solve : First Robotics: Duel On The Delaware?

Answer»

So today I went to my first ever FIRST Robotics competition. I gotta say it was pretty amazing. I am on Chuck 84. Our team didn't make semifinals (due to a piece of rug that wasn't TAPED down well enough getting stuck on us; consequently in the match after a staff taped it) but we got something amazing done at least. We took with us 3.5 tons (7,000 lbs) of books to the book drive, accounting for about half of all the books donated. So we got a big trophy for that. If you WANT, you can check out the website (http://www.fsrobotics.org/moe365//duel2008/duelhome.php).

I can't get the webcast to work. Also as it was happening, me and my buddy were in the LOBBY on his laptop and we were getting the same timed out error on FireFox. I read on a forum that we need to open the link (http://asp.shinraikon.com/duelvii.aspx) through VLC but I don't know how. I'll keep messing with it tonight but if anyone could just tell me how to stream it, that'd be awesome.

I honestly never thought that robotics would be quite this fun. I think this competition was so incredible. It's kinda like a free roam do what you want thing, with people walking all over in the pits, and dancing (see girl in skirt on webcast; she danced soooo much). They played music the whole TIME and it was like a great energy. I think people there were more enthusiastic than I've seen people be at sporting events.

So much fun, I recommend FIRST Robotics.

Solve : iTunes/Music?

Answer»

I have near 15,000 songs on iTunes; which I primarily use as my music box. However, I am concerned that one day it will crash and all the time and money spent, I will not be able to recover them.

Whats is the best way to save these files...ZIP drive, several cds, internet server, etc....? Woah, that's a lot of songs! I'm not SURE any flash drives could handle it. You might could use multiples though. I wouldn't do the CDs method, and I don't know anything about the servers thing. I would use an external hard-drive, but that's just me. Are some of those songs RIPPED from CDs?

I think the most important thing to do is back them up as soon as possible, especially if you've never done so, and especially if some of them are downloaded. Make sure not to upgrade to a new version of Itunes before backing up.Some are from cd's, but most are from borrowing a friends ipod and downloading them from the ipod to my computer....of which, you need to purchase software to go from ipod to computer vs. the norm of computer to ipod.

I use a server for my work docs, not through the company, that we can save important docs on their servers and login on their website to retrieve, change, and save on their servers.

As for the cds, YES, that would be a pain. And understand, that I would have to use multiple zip files, probably saved by genre.

So, can you further explain "external hard drive"...
Thanks in advance.Well, I think that if you moved your files from the Itunes Music folder onto an external hard-drive, you could play the Itunes-purchased ones on a different computer by verifying they are yours over the internet with the password of the account they were bought with. If you don't know how to find the Itunes music folder, tell me if your computer is a mac or a windows.Quote from: typhoeus on October 03, 2008, 08:48:28 PM

yes you can do that, as long as the computer has internet access and one song can be used on no more than 5 computers!

yeah, dont you have to type that at the command prompt

Nope, don't think so. It worked me with Vista, so I'd SAY it's the same. It came up with about 5,000 results! xp professional start - shearch then you can say what your looking for an when you click advandce features or what ever it comes up with the file TYPES if your looking for a certain one.For certain file types the wildcard is star__dot...
In other words if i want to search ALL jpegs in the search bar iwould type *.jpg and hit Enter.
The results will be all jpg's on the machine.

Same for any extension...*.TXT would bring up ALL text files on the machine etc. etc.thats true but when shearching say a youtube file you'll probably get a whole bunch of other stuff. If you wanted to get a youtube video, just ask.Is that a yes?

If so, I got quite a few solutions.such as???Heh, say 'Yes'.

http://i310.photobucket.com/albums/kk403/squall_131/DSC00798.jpg

Hope this helps, sorry it took me so long to get them up. That's almost the same as mine, but slightly different.
On mine there were 2 Torx screws, at the bottom of the case just under the PSU, which needed to be undone, and then the case just pulled apart.
It's not an easy case to work on, and most components are proprietary too.
Hope this helps a little.some what, you really cant tell but I think the screws are gone from the back side, I think I some how have them.If you can grab some more pics of the rear of the case, SPECIFICALLY near the bottom, it may become clearer and I might be able to help you more.
I don't have my Compaq any more because the case annoyed me too much, I accidentally broke the motherboard trying to remove it because it wasn't STANDARD, and of course neither was the PSU so that went too.yeah thats the only trouble with these. probably monday if I can get to it.http://i310.photobucket.com/albums/kk403/squall_131/DSC00803.jpg

http://i310.photobucket.com/albums/kk403/squall_131/DSC00809.jpg

Hope this helps out alot. I found some parts which was wierd "screws" but wondered why they got too.Ah, I THOUGHT you were having trouble getting inside the case at all.
I see you've partially disassembled it, that's as far as I got before resorting to brute force and DESTROYING things.
There's no point taking it further anyhow as the components you can't get at are all proprietary.
In short, you could take the memory, HDD, CPU and HS, but the motherboard, case and PSU will be no good unless you got another system exactly the same.
Hope this helps.I only took the sides off an such. It was like that when I got it. yeah thas the only down side. a side from not haveing bigger ram for it an I dont have a usb keyboard.

In OO, when you filter, the displayed results hide the rows that don't meet the criteria BUT increment the row numbers as if the hidden rows were there.

After the filter, copy the worksheet and paste it in a new sheet; the row numbers ought to increment by 1 so the last row number will now give an accurate "count."Actually, I deleted empty, and folder lines by hand, so the numbers were in correct sequence.Quote from: Broni on September 28, 2008, 09:03:37 PM

Strange, then...my OO results agreed with AM Dead Link. Hmmmm......1374 bookmarks......

I think I will pass this test.

(I have a folder called Tech News with 600+ bookmarks, just to let you know)

Solve : Winamp not staying maximized upon first opening!?

Answer»

I posted a thread in the Winamp forum on this, but didn't get the answer I was looking for, so I thought I'd try you guys. I'm running the latest VERSION of Winamp Pro on Vista Home Basic x64. Many TIMES, but not always, when I click on the Winamp icon in my QUICK Launch taskbar, the program briefly opens, then quickly minimizes back to the taskbar.

I did check in properties and Run is set to Normal Window. I even tried switching it to Maximized once, to see if that would do any good. It didn't. I also check in Winamp OPTIONS and Always On top is checked.

I also reinstalled the program right on top of the existing one and that made no difference. Then I completely uninstalled Winamp, then reinstalled it, but I STILL I get the same problem! And like I mentioned, the problem is intermittent.

I'm stumped!

Solve : SATA HDD connection replacement?

Answer»

i have a 500GB SATA HDD.
the power connection is in tact but the DATA connection has snapped off!
is there any way that i can fix it or replace the whole connection front of the HDD?

thank you for any helpSo you mean the hard drive itself is damaged?no
as far as i know, the HDD itself is fine, it's just the port where you connect the SATA data cable connects to the HDD

the black plastic bit that holds the cable in place has snapped off and it wont stay onThat means normally that whole controller piece needs replaced...problem is you need to get ONE as close to that batch/serial # as you can to get it to WORK and even then it's a crapshoot.
Try EBAY for a dead SATA ...enter your serial# when you search.

Solve : Blu screen again.?

Answer»

I experimentally partitioned my Hard drive (Athlon 64, 1 M memory, Win 2K SP4, 180M HD) and after much faffing, had two Win2k systems running, seperately booted.
I added a few goodies, but now the code on the C:/ partition ends up BLUE. I have tried DR Watson, found it indecisive, and wonder if I can reload Win 2k without screwing up the SP4 DOWNLOAD. Clues, anybody?I don't think I understand the PROBLEM.

Solve : Windows XP freezing during Printer Installation?

Answer»

I am fixing my friends notebook. Her computer was badly virused and needed a clean install. I went ahead and reinstalled everything. Her USB ports dont work due to wear and tear from her siblings yanking cables off. I told her to get the PCMIA card that has USB connection. The Ipod connected and worked fine, when I connected her Cannon MP600 printer it asked to use windows update to locate the files. I clicked yes and everything seemed fine until it said hardware found installing. Windows XP froze literaly, nothing moved. I waited for 3 hours but nothing happened. I had to reboot by holding the power button

I downloded the drivers from cannon and installed before connecting the printer. All installed fine, when I connected the printer. the computer froze

I restarted the computer in safe mode and connected the printer. The printer connected fine and didnt freeze. I tried to print but it said the print spooler SERVICE is not available in safe mode

I went ahead and restarted the computer again with the cable already connected. Windows loaded and just as all progams finished loading it froze. Only programs it has running in the background is McAffee Antivirus, Nero, and Groove 2007.

I connected the printer with the same usb cable to my notebook and it works fine.

The computer is a HP Pavilion ZE2000
Windows XP SP3
AMD Athlon 1.60 Ghz
256mb RAM
60 GiG HD

Any ideas on how to resolve the matter ? thanks!Do you have the CD that came with the printer? If so, use it and REINSTALL the printer.

Also, does it work properly if it's already attached?I did use the ORIGINAL cd but no luck. the moment i connect the printer via usb it causes windows xp to freeze. I erased printer drivers via uninstall, I CHECKED for any remains on the registry but still no luckTry this:
While your printer is plugged in, or else it wont be detected in the device list;
Right click "My Computer" (which, may be in the Start Menu, or on the desktop) and go to "Properties"
Click the "Hardware" tab, and find the "Device Manager"
Find your printer driver.

Double-Click it, and go to the "Driver" tab, and click "Uninstall"

This will remove the driver, after doing so, restart your computer and follow the installation instructions.
