I use Netscape 7.0 - I WENT to TOOLS - saw DOWNLOAD MANAGER - (first time there) - -
it is SOO LOADED with downloads GALORE marked "FINISHED" -
It seems it should be cleaned up to save memory -
I am afraid to remove anything because it may interfere with any program I may use - I am not the greatest in being computer literate -
Can I remove everything there "safely" without crashing or causing harm to any programs???

Okay. So I just bought a vaio computer from my friend. The battery however is not detected or charging. I have been tolod by sony that it is not the battery but they want to charge me to fix it. They think that my computer needs reconfigured with windows services and other advanced system settings for the battery to be recognized and charged. I would be glad to SET up a remote desktop so you could look at my computer and try to solve this problem. What's your friend say about the battery? Was it working for them, or is that why they sold it?

It's got to be a bad battery, or a bad charger. I've had a number of laptops, and a number of bad batteries or chargers, but I've never had to go into software to fix the problem.

I was told by a computer repair shop that I have a bunch of compressed files that are taking up LOTS of room on the hard drive. Is there anyway to tell what is in these files so they can be deleted? I looked at this and I don't see anywhere to delete things. I did find some things that could be deleted.

When I TRY to save SOMETHING on a CD, I get an error message that says that I don't have ACCESS to drive F and to see the administrator. The only way I have been able to save, is to right click and hit send to drive F, but, all documents save as read only and won't let me change it.If its CD-R or +R you can't change it.It's on BLANK CD-RW and CD-R. I have a Desktop & a Laptop, but no iPhone or any other type of device that I could download audiobooks with. My question is, is it possible to download audiobooks to my Desktop computer and then turn them into CDs so that I can listen to them through the CD player in my car? I frequently have a 3-hour trip to drive that is, at times, through the mountains so I lose radio signals and those audiobooks really are great when I can't get radio news or music. Or is this not legal even if it is possible? It is possible. Legality depends on what is being downloaded and converted.

One suggestion I have is something I did long ago before cars came with MP3 players. You stated you have a laptop. If the audio book is one that is able to be downloaded, then download it to the laptop. Use a low cost 120 watt 12VDC to 120VAC inverter that goes into cigarette lighter or auxiliary 12V socket in vehicle to power laptop for long drives. Either play the audio out of the laptop directly or connect the audio out of laptop to auxiliary input of stereo. If car is too old for aux input then the other 2 options are getting a FM transmitter to connect to the audio out on laptop and set radio to say 87FM or if your car is old enough to have a cassette player get one of those cassette tapes with audio cord to play it through the cassette player.

I did this 15 years ago when studying for college and lucked out finding that a 900 page dry book that I needed to read I was able to find online in audio format. So my 120 minutes per day driving I could multitask and take in information and drive at the same time, as for if a book is dry I cant get past the first chapter. I used a laptop with inverter to power it and one of those cassette tapes that allows audio direct to magnetic head in tape deck and it worked awesome.

I don't think anyone here will share how to take that and convert it to a audio CD because the directions would be a cookbook for music piracy if used for other purposes etc. So the suggested method above assumes its available for download legally and you just NEED a means to play it on stereo in your car. Thanks for your reply, Dave. My car is a 2018 RAV4 LE. It has a CD slot and a whole lot of other stuff that is standard that I haven't a clue as to what they're for or what they do. There is an AUX port and a USB port. I'm green as grass when it comes to electronic "stuff" so, bear with me. Is there a connector on the market that will go into the AUX port that has a USB connector on the other end that will go into the power USB port of the Laptop? You can PLUG a standard Phono cable from the Laptop's Headphone jack to the AUX Jack.As BC stated & to power the laptop there are devices called inverters that can bring 120VAC outlets to your automobile. This one here is rated for 100 watts which should be more than plenty for a single laptop. Most laptops draw 80 watts or lesser. This one linked below is better than the one that i have because it allows you to not sacrifice a 12V cigarette/aux outlet as for it has one built into it of you need to plug something into the 12V aux jack of vehicle.

The USB port of your vehicle can play MP3 files through a USB stick if your able to get the audio books as MP3 just put them on a thumb drive and in the options for the stereo select the play from USB Media. No laptop needed if you can get it as MP3's. I'd go this ROUTE vs laptop in vehicle if your able to get the audio books as MP3. A laptop in a automobile comes at the risk of it getting stolen. I use to have to tuck mine under the passenger side seat and lock doors to not be tempting for someone to break the window and grab it.

The USB port can also be used to charge CELL phones, tablets, portable gps device, as well as many other devices that have a USB data/power connection.Thank you for these great ways to get around my lack of electronic alternatives that most folks have. I've been happy with computers since 1995, so I haven't bothered to broaden my horizons with more gadgetry. Many web sites have free MP3 libraries that feature readings of books and magazines. These do have copyrights, but that means that it is OK to save them for your own enjoyment. The copyright prevents you from legally giving it to other people.

When I receive an email with numerous address I delete them before passing the email on. And there are times when I get emails that have numerous <<< on every line. I used to painstakingly highlight and delete them before passing the email on, however, there has got to be a better way. Does anyone out there know how to do it by copying and pasting the email to a Word document? (I hope this is the right category for this question.) if so, it's a setting in the originators email program and you are in fact altering their message before sending it on.
Why not just copy/paste the relevant content ? ?I've tried copying & pasting to another email, and to Word, but those symbols just get copied along with the text. For the most part they appear at the beginning of every line of text. Sometimes there is only one < and other times there may be as many as 6 <<<<<<. Once in a while they will CROP up in the text between words. I've always thought that they happened between one email server and a different email server that they were being sent to. I'm sort of OCD about cleaning up emails and getting rid of addresses, etc. I have received emails where there were no sentences, only one long VERTICAL line of single letters. Both Android and Windows are moving targets. It is hard to know where they are going tomorrow.
In the context of phones, I'd say yes.

based on what I've SEEN, Windows Phones, and more recent Windows versions, work quite well on mobile platforms and devices. (I'm of the mind that they work fine with keyboard and mouse too, but some feel there has been a compromise in that regard.). And it is a worthy competitor to Android and even iOS in terms of what Windows on smartphones brings to the table.

One may wonder why, then, I think Android is better, after singing the praises for Windows phone. Well, for all the good design that went into Windows running on mobile devices, it is still only about on par with Android. The thing that breaks the tie is the fact that Android actually has "apps" (I hate that word) that you can use.

of course, all this is coming from somebody who has never owned a smartphone or mobile phone before, anyway (At least until the one I BOUGHT last week arrives)

So yesterday, the 'NOTES' on my iphone were not updating.
I TRIED to fix the issue by:

Going to settings > Apple id > icloud >then toogled the green button off for notes
I Was prompted with a warning MESSAGE, "Are you sure you want to turn off notes? If you turn off notes, these changes will be lost."
I clicked 'Delete from iPhone'

Since then, ALL notes are gone from my iPhone and I cannot seem to get them back.
HOWEVER, I was able to still ACCESS notes on my mac and iPad AND when signing in on the web.
I tried playing around with some settings on the mac, now I can't get any of my Notes my Mac!
HOWEVER I can still get the full catalog of notes on my iPad AND on my iCloud web account.

Hi, i have a dell inspiron laptop. I ALSO have a dog who decided to walk across the key pad and now all of my F keys do function as they used to. The volume keys dont work and the mute key opens a new tab when im online. Also the brightness keys dont work.In reply to my own question, if you PRESS the fn key and then the esc key, its changes the WAY the F keys work.Are you saying the Function key does or does not change the function of the f keys? If it does, then things are working as they are SUPPOSED to. If it doesn't, then the keyboard is not functioning as it should.

I was surfing youtube last night looking for new stuff to check out for games and came across a project that I previously had not been aware of that back in 2004 a group of German programmers put together a first person shooter called kkrieger that had impressive graphics for only 96k in size. I was able to locate the game for download and while its not without some GLITCHES it RAN under Windows 10 64-bit on my Core i5 with GT 730 video card with ease since it was built to run on a Pentium III 1.5Ghz or better with Geforce 4 Ti or better back in 2004. Impressive in that its all that it is for 96k in size it was fun to play even though I got snagged when trying to walk off of a PLATFORM and all I could do was turn around 360 and SHOOT but unable to jump and get un-snagged during one of my many RUNS testing it out.

The game while 96k in size to meet a competition goal expands into RAM to be around 30,000 times its original size at just under 300 MB. Glitches in it are mainly because it was stripped down of some error checking to be within the 96k as well as they were just barely able to compact it down to 96k before the deadline of the competition using a code compression tool.

I'll give you some more practical advice when it comes to hardware.
Buy according to purpose and not because it looks pretty.
Unless you're going to install a BSD or GNU/Linux distro on it, you will end up tossing it out because it won't be "compatible" with whatever Windows release that will come up next. "Gaming" is just as bad because you will want a new one because of "system requirements are not met" type of reason. The list goes on and one with each reason reflecting a future truth.
get a cheaper one. Back up the original software. Set up a dual boot. Learn to use the machine the right way.

I just got a new Dell Vostro nicely loaded for under $800 with a 3 year next business day onsite warranty. If you go the BestBuy route and have issues, they do not fix. They mail it off and there is no way of telling when or if it will be fixed.

I agree that a gaming laptop is not a good idea and I would stick with the idea of using it for college. If you are planning on hauling it with you, size and weight may be an issue.

I attempted to copy a short cut of a you TUBE video clip to my DESK top and it did, but now I cannot remove it. It is not a "normal" shortcut. It is playing the video on my desk top, with all of my other shortcuts and desk top display settings in their normal mode.

Where or how do I remove this from the desk top?

Steve Well I can answer my own question. I did not dig deep far enough in the display menu. There is an option to have the you tube clip deleted very SIMPLY, now that I found it.

If not, you could always try RESETTING the CMOS battery.

I have been given an old Dan computer that runs WIN 3.1. As well as the normal F/D drive it has a gianormous one for a few large, (about 5" and a bit diameter) F/D . These disks are really floppy, not in a rigid case like normal ones.
I am probably the only person never seen them before, but any suggestions what years these type of disks were in use please?

Thanks for all the info and links. Being an inquisitive (ie, nosey!) chap I did the MSD thing and found far more than I understood!
Main bit for me was, "BIOS Date 05/05/91"
Also found "ROM BIOS (C) 1990 American Megatrends INC PD 386 V2.0 09-10-91"

Just to add, when this machine starts up I have to reset the CMOS (Nope, I don't know anything about it, just enter the figures I was given) because the battery is low. Tried leaving it plugged in for 3 days, but it has not charged and I can't see the normal circular battery on the mother board to change, so guess it is a solder on type.

After this it starts up with, "Supermemory C:\BATCH"

No doubt a dim question to the knowledgeable, but what is "BATCH" and "Supermemory" please?

One of the links mentions an 8" F/D and I thought my 5" was a big one!

That's a learning curve then as the person who gave me the computer said it did. But I would rather accept what you have said.
Off to try it now.

...It seems impossible for them to be charged when no power is being supplied. When the Power is on, the CMOS circuit is broken and the RTC RAM is kept alive via power from the power supply. As I'm sure we've all witnessed with standard batteries of any form, sometimes a short while of disuse can seem to restore a little life to them, that's pretty much all that happens....

I have all my MUSIC on an external hard drive most of them rip it from CDs, I notice that some mp3 files when I try to copy and paste in another folder or even copy in destop the ART cover desappear I'm not sure why your ALBUM art disappears sometimes, but here is a link to add what you need. I PUT the burned CD into my DVD drive and boot the backtrack 3. Loads up the drivers and all, and asks me to login (I use the default username "root" and password "toor". Is it possible for someone to hack into a computer while it is hooked up to an unsecured network and as a result for the browsing history to show websites that were accessed by the hacker, but not the actual computer owner? If someone was pirating your wireless signal you wouldn’t be able to view what they’d browsed without seeing their computer directly or accessing the settings for your router.

It is however possible for older web-browsers to be forced to save websites as favourites without the user being aware. This occurs visiting a macious website containing SCRIPT which might save one or more websites and normally also attempt to change your homepage.

If it's browser history, I would suggest checking you don't have kids or someone using it in the middle of the night, etc. The other way might be REMOTE connection to your PC, in which you would be able to see someone moving the mouse, typing, etc, remotely. If you don't USE these services, disable them as they are just a security hole, if you do use remote access sometimes ensure its a strong password and/or IP ADDRESS fixed.

Ok, so I POSSES a Canon FS100 CAMCORDER. When I insert an sd-memory card into the camcorder and try to take a PICTURE or record a video a message appears stating, "The Card is Set for Erasure Prevention". I have tryed using a few differant memory cards with the camcorder. Any help would be much appreciated.

Notes:
-I have CHECKED on Canons website but could not find an answer.
-After calling Canons Customer Support I still could not find an Answer.
-Yes, I have made sure the lock switch on the side of the SD card is off.Possibly SD card interface (socket) in camera is damaged or dirty.

because I want to be able to send a signal from my computer to the rs232 port for example a letter a or b or c to a microcontrller

the idea is to send the ascii code from the computer to the microcontroller pic16f877a and then the pic is going to reconginse it and then its going to drive some motors

HyperTerminal is built for dialing into other computers (often for checking email, or chat. This is very outdated and now uncommon technology)
One thing that we NEED to know is: What type of communication technology are you using? COM Port? LTP? Modem? And what cable type are you using?

If there is any SOFTWARE that came with this Microcontroller, it would most LIKELY be better to use the software that came with it. what kind of cable/conectors do you use if both computers do not have serial portys conectors Not sure why you would reply since he hasn't been back in 3/1/2 Years.....

Do you want to create a ram drive?You can't convert non-volatile memory to volatile. They are different types of memory technology. The ONE exception (i believe) is cmos ram. Your bios settings are stored in volatile memory (cmos ram), and the only thing that makes it SOMEWHAT non-volatile is the cmos battery on the motherboard. Non-volatile memory does not require a constant voltage to retain data, where volatile memory does. This is why when your computer crashes you loose all your unsaved data. All that stuff you're typing is done in main DRAM memory which is volatile and requires constant power. When your computer crashes and you have to restart you loose all that unsaved data because power is temporarily disconnected from main memory. If you want the data to be saved you save it to the hard drive, either "my documents" or the "desktop"..

Even though i have BACKUPS, i was wondering if anyone considers on-line storage a good IDEA as another back up option, and if so, is there anything out there free or minimal cost which is a good choice.

I've got a decent, but not great upload speed, and started to upload all my music to Adrive. After several hours of uploading, I gave up and bought another thumb drive.

If my house burns down, I lose all my music on my computer and the thumb drive, where as if it's on Adrive it will still be there. But then, if my house burns down I've got bigger problems than LOSING my music.I never considered online storage as an option...
All my backups are dupes...one on site and the other at a secure storage area.

Facebook has changed there 'settings' concerning this. I do not know the exact RULES, but i do know that that they will not let you add to many people at a time. You cannot add only females. You cannot always add freinds of friends. I'm not sure on this, but ithink there is some kind of time limit and AMOUNT which limits who and how many.

yeah its a 200w its originally from a Hp pavilion 750n.

I'm totally out of my depth here. A primary school has code oo its WEB page that puts up a vertical row of images with no spaces between the images. They want to be able to space the images, vertically, and experiment to see what looks best.

I've tried editing the code after consulting dozens of web sites, but am really scratching around in the dark and getting nowhere fast - I'm not a programmer!

There are eighteen images but they might add or delete some. I give a sample below of the code for the FIRST four images. Can anyone suggest what they need to add to each piece of code to achieve their wish?

Does fine except the batteries tend to die at a critical point in a game you are playing.

Does anyone else have this on home edition ?I just now noticed that my Windows Vista Home Basic computer has remote desktop connection in the Accessorites menu as well.. What the heck is going on here ?

Terminal Services appears to be installed and running on Vista Home Basic, but not on XP Home, yet both have remote desktop connection available in the accessories menu..If I'm reading this right, RDC has been around for almost 10 years (which I didn't KNOW), but was included in XP SP1. Back in the Win 98 days I spent some money on remote access programs, which may have been a waste of money.

You get an RDC client but not the server.

The you tube videos keep stopping to reload. What could be the problem? I thought my computer was okay and although this has always happened occasionally it seems like now it is much more often. Could someone list the known causes please. My computer is a core 2 duo with plenty of ram and speed. I have DSL and I put on a new filter on the phone to keep the analog signal out and I put on a new DSL cable in case the connection was bad. It seems like it doesn't matter if I'm downloading any videos or not it still keeps reloading. Strangely though occasionally a video will START right up and play at least most of the way through. I don't think I have a lot of THINGS running during the you tube watching because I have used WINDOWS Defender to limit these programs to only the necessary. And I have AVG running but not in conflict with any other MALWARE monitoring utilities. It's evening now and I know it is said the problem could be with how much traffic my server is under at the MOMENT but are there any other possible sources of the problem? Thanks!

Hi I've been having this problem with my computer for about over a month now. It just came out of nowhere. Basically, if I try and OPEN youtube, the video either loads about six seconds, and then buffers until eternity, or just doesn't load at all. This occurs in IE, Mozilla, and Chrome. I have already cleared my cache, unin and reinstalled flash like a billion times, and run numerous VIRUS checks. Everyone else that has the same internet provider as me isn't having this problem. It's just me, so I figure it's the computer. This is the same issue that happens with any video I try to load. Also, I can't download any music files. At all. It kinda does the same thing as the youtube vids. Either a bit will download, then stop, or it won't download at all. Any other files (i.e. documents, pictures) download just fine. I'm running XP, and I haven't had any problems like this before. I'd really APPRECIATE any help, because I'm dying without youtube.What anti virus program/s are you running ?


Click Start, click on "run", type MSCONFIG
press enter

click on the services tab, check "hide all microsoft services", click disable all, click apply, click OK and restart.. try the youtube videos and see if there is correction. If not, GO back to MSCONFIG, click on the start-up tab, click disable all, click apply, click ok, restart and try videos again...

report back with resultsand have you tried booting to safemode (safemode with networking) and checked if it works ok there?Somebody might have said this but if you have DSL -getting the net via phone line you need a filter on the phones that are not connected to your modem. These filters become less effective with time and they let in your phone's analog signal which will stop the download momentarily. Also put on a new short DSL cable as the connections could be poor. I'm having the same problem and I just found out as my son said his laptop is taking bandwidth because it is connected to the router at the same time I'm TRYING to load You Tubes. Use Windows Defender to stop any unnecessary programs from loading when you start your computer. Use task manager to see how many and what programs are running.

I have an Epson stylus cx5500 printer that will not print...... The ink ranout so I replaced it and RESTARTED the computer and printer. Although I have just PUT a new ink cartridge in the printer it is still saying that there is no ink! Does anyone know how I can reset the ink LEVELS or fix this problem??
