Solve : acer aspire m1641?

Answer»

hello guys.. can anyone HELP me how to install the windows XP to my computer (m1641) i don't want it's OS (vista) it s*cks.. ooppss i need drivers for free can anyone tell me where can i download it to help me install the windows XP tnx..HuH ? ?
Are you saying you want to dump Vista and install XP ? ?

If so:
Collect all the drivers available for your machine for XP.
Get  an XP CD that includes  a valid authourisation.

Travel to your machine's website for the correct drivers...How long did you actually use Vista before coming to this conclusion?  What do you not like about it?How about the Acer website? Ever heard of a browser? Use it.

Mosts Acer notebook are using vista I am also using Acer but its travelmate and they are also using vista in it. I just dont like it too since everyday there is lots of updates and it is really irritating at times. Quote from: alex404 on January 04, 2009, 07:00:43 PM

... vista ... I just dont like it too since everyday there is lots of updates and it is really irritating at times.
No, there are not "lots of updates" everyday.  I've been using Vista for 1 1/2 years now and that simply is not an accurate statement.  If you mean you get alerts everyday, I suspect it's because you aren't downloading the updates when first alerted.  Or he's running Windows Defender ..."How about the Acer website? Ever heard of a browser? Use it."

I THINK you'll find that the Acer site only has Vista drivers for the M1641, not XP drivers.
to get around this, u need 3 things :
1 : XP disk either SP2 or 3
2: NLite : http://www.nliteos.com/download.html
3: M1641 Sata Driver for XP. and all the other drivers too : http://komku.blogspot.com/2009/01/aspire-m1641-m3641-m5641-windows-xp-and.html

Run Nlite, follow the wizard, add your sata drivers, copy any other drivers u need on to the CD also, make the ISO (selecting bootable and driver OPTIONS) , burn it, install from the new disk. when installing delete/remake/format your primary PARTITION, then go out and have a beer if you selected the 'unattended install' option with all your drivers included...

We all have that problem.
Work a rounds:
1. Copy and paste the text you want into Notepad and set font size and print.
- OR -
2. Save the web page as a full web page. Edit page with a HTML editor and change the font size and print.
- OR -
3. Only go to web sites that give you a decent printer friendly page.

Solve : 0x00000007E error installing WINXP sp2?

Answer»

Quote from: Broni on August 02, 2009, 11:33:30 AM
Is the computer bootable to Windows at all?

The computer comes on, I get my confirmation beep, the win xp pro disk starts installing files and then when it says windows will start, I get the dreaded blue screen.

A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard DRIVES or hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

Technical information:
STOP: 0x0000007E (0xc0000005, 0xF7480BF, 0xF78DA208, 0x78D9F08)

pci.sys - Address   F748E0BF  base  at  F7487000,         Datestamp  3d7d855c
What's the question ? ?What was the initial reason for reinstall?

1. If you have more than one RAM module installed, try starting computer with one RAM stick at a time.
NOTE Keep in mind, the manual check listed above is always superior to the software check, listed below.
If you have only one RAM stick installed...
...run memtest: http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic62524.html

2. Run hard drive diagnostics: http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=287
Make sure, you select tool, which is APPROPRIATE for the brand of your hard drive.
Depending on the program, it'll create bootable FLOPPY, or bootable CD.
If downloaded file is of .iso type, use ImgBurn: http://www.imgburn.com/ to BURN .iso file to a CD (select "Write image file to disc" option), and make the CD bootable.

NOTE. If your hard drive is made by Toshiba, unfortunately, you're out of luck, because Toshiba doesn't provide any diagnostic tool. All new parts?
LEGIT Windows CD?If the CD is in perfect condition, I'd still test RAM, and HD. Bad, new parts happen. They must be installed in pairs, I believe.I thought we got beyond that paired crap.  *censored*.You should be able to disable dual channel mode in BIOS if you're lucky.

Are the RAM slots on your motherboard different colors? Quote

Solve : Screen Upside down?

Answer»

My computer screen is upside down, can anyone help?http://forums.techguy.org/tech-tips-tricks/336002-windows-xp-flipping-screen-upside.html

Read the first post.

"Windows XP: Flipping the screen upside down and back again
Once, at University, SOMEONE had flipped the screens of all the public computers (running on Windows XP) of the English Department upside down. The WALLPAPER, desktop icons, FONTS, mouse-cursor and EVEN the start-up screen...everything was displayed or MOVED upside down. People could not check out their e-mails or surf or do anything.
To reverse the upside down screen mode, press ctrl, alt and the up arrow (arrows console) at the same time; the screen will probably go blank. Turn off the monitor, turn it on again and the display will be normal again. If you possess a sense of humour or are antisocial, press ctrl, alt and the down arrow simultaneously, turn off the monitor, turn it on again and everyone (excluding the culprit) will be desperate --> upside down! Works for Windows XP Home and Prof."It worked, thanks for the help.

Solve : Blown wire??

Answer»

Hey guys.I really need help. One day,i was playing GTA4 then while browsing my stats in the quit menu it suddenly jammed and crashed.I was really pissed about it so i knocked the mother board on the top.It turned black and there was no display.Feeling slightly agitated i pushed the power button on the motherboard until it shut down.I looked at the back of the motherboard and since i use a DVI cable on my NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX+ and i was slightly wobbly.I remembered the last time it was reformatted i needed to waggle it a BIT to get it to display anything. But no matter how i twisted it the monitor stubbornly showed black. Now i am using a VGA cable and it works but i am using a standard VGA graphics adaptor.Any hope guys?Is it because my graphics card got shocked?
First off, you hit your PCs case. not the motherboard.

have you ever tried using the little thumbscrews on the sides of the connectors for the DVI connector?

And what do you mean your now using a "Standard VGA graphics adapter?" Did you change your drivers?Open a side panel from the case...
Remove all Power sources and video connections...
Remove and re-seat the vid card...

Connect everything back up and see.

Stop whapping the machine.Hey guys. Thanks for the suggestions but i am 13 years old dont know a THING a bout computers and this is my dads computer. And BC_Programmer when i use the vga wire it says i am using a vga graphics adapter when i select display SETTINGS (im using VISTA).AND lastly i cant open the computer.       EDIT:I have tried the little thumbscrews BC_Programmer.BUMP. Sorry to bump but please??Anyone?Even a little spider??Do as Patio suggested.

Unplug the computer, open the case, and look around to see if anything is not connected properly.

That leaves 4 computers just laying around.

I dont want to sell them on Ebay or any other online site, to much hassle for the little im sure theyd bring.

Solve : Do you know about Apple tablet and do you want to buy it??

Answer»

Do you KNOW about Apple tablet and do you want to buy it?You might want to try asking your question on the CH Apple forum where all the Pippins,Macs, and Granny Smiths hang out. Though i must warn you of 2 things--1.This Ch forum does NOT have a great deal of "Apple" lovers and 2. There are not many members of the CH forums that seem to be interested in "Apple" computers. To get a more in depth reply you would probably be better off to post your question on an exclusively "Apple" forum or do a google search for an opinions source on the product.truenorthThanks for your suggestion.Because I think here is a good forum,so I post here.Well i certainly agree with you .The CH forum and it's members are an excellent source for many things. However from my limited experience when seeking info on Apple related ISSUES it is somewhat lacking and that is OK as we cannot be all things to all people. An Apple tablet is very current technology and on the expensive side (as are most things Apple) so were i in your shoes and contemplating it's purchase i would want as much info on it as i can get. Particularly from users with no vested interest. It cannot hurt for you to visit an Apple forum. We won't feel less of you and will welcome you back.truenorthI just read a good review, but I don't remember where.

The idea was that while tablet PC's look really COOL, and are a neat concept, are they worth the extra price?  The reviewer wrote about how you still have to plug in a keyboard, unless you want to deal with the ergonomics of typing on an "on-screen" keyboard.

If you're not worried about typing, or don't type a lot, it may be a great alternative for you.

I apologize for not knowing more about them. Quote from: Aegis on August 06, 2009, 09:11:35 AM

dear bc_programmer,

thank you for your response.

the cntrl+shft+end part worked beautifully.
the cntrl+C part did not respond.

Well, Control+C copies the text to the "clipboard" an AREA of memory that holds data for you. Once you have something on the clpboard, you need to "paste" it. In this case- you'll want to "paste" it into your wordperfect document. Control+V while your in your wordperfect document should plop the text into it, after you perform the previous steps on the site in question.soybean , read reply no1 on " it "dear rob,

The windows Clipboard is part of windows...

I'm unsure as to what exactly your doing here that makes you believe the clipboard is on your disk- it isn't- there is nothing to search for.bc_programmer,
when you explained the action of cntrl+c in conjunction with my problem i could not understand why the text did not go to my clipbook (clipBOOK in the corel program).
i thought that there had to be a problem with my clipbook...

i right clicked on start>explore>documents and settings>application data>corel.
in the past the clipbook was IN the corel file, but presently it is NOT in that file.

i am not a prodigy.  my SIMPLE mind told me to go and look for what was missing.
and, for me, the route to take was to "search" for it.
it's not where it's supposed to be - i don't know what occurred to make it exit where it's always been - it could be anywhere - so, i WENT foraging for it.

Windows Movie Maker. It's free, it's easy, and chances are it's ALREADY on your computer. (It's included with Windows XP SP2).

If you're not running Service Pack 2 you should download it. (Get service pack 3 while you're at it).

If you're running 2 & 3, but still don't have Movie Maker, you can download it here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/updates/moviemaker2.mspx

Really, the preference of program is up to the user though. What he/she can understand and use. Windows Movie Maker is about as SIMPLE as they come.

Can anyone reccomend me a program that can mount IMAGES such as ISO's?

I was looking at Slysoft.com and checked out there WOT score and someone said not to download so I was wondering if theres anything free out there or if I would have to PAY money.JZip can READ ISOs.  DaemonTools can mount ISOs in WINDOWS.  GNU/Linux can mount ISO images natively (no further software REQUIRED).Microsoft also makes an ISO mounting utility for Windows XP.

Solve : Found a new cleanup tip for XP Pro & Server 2003?

Answer»

I was googleing around today and CAME across this link that provides some info and "How To" for cleaning up "Prefetch Files" on XP Pro and Windows Server 2003.

I don't know if this applies to XP Home. I guess a person would half to look and see if the Prefetch files are there.

I am running XP Pro and I had a lot of files in there. I actually think I can tell a bit of difference in speed after following the procedure.

Here is the link to the page.
http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_tutorials/Gaining-Speed-Empty-Prefetch-XP.htmlYes this tip also applies to Microsoft Windows XP home edition. It's a good tip.I have CCleaner and opened it and saw under the "System" section the "Old Prefetch Data" which does have a check mark by it.

And YET I did have lot of items in the Prefetch some dating back to October 05 even though I run CCleaner every few days.   hmmmAre you meaning, do I still have CCleaner on this computer?

If so, Yes.

I emptied the Prefetch files manually when I found this info the other day. So CCleaner did not seem (according to the dated files) to grab everything when I run it.

I did not recall seeing the same files twice, if thats hat you are meaning, but I did not study them extremely hard.Well, when I found this info I just CLEANED them out with out studying them real hard.

However now, I do see many things that I recognize as being on my computer and a few not.

I do remember one file from when I first looked at the Prefetch files. It was lsass.exe. I knew that was a bug. I deleted it first, then the others. I had a warning from Avast a couple weeks ago about a bug. I took care of it right then. Went to SAFE mode, shut off System Restore and went though with a full check of everything. And was clean.Mac,

Thanks for that bit of info.

I may be wrong but it seemed there was no Microsoft anything at the beggining of the lsass.exe file name.

But I have slept since then.  :-/Prefetch?... XP smoke & mirrors.

Solve : Yahoo Mail Password problem.?

Answer»

Getting to the end of my list tackling them one at a time.

Next ...

My GF has a Yahoo mail account for years. One day she went to sign in and was unable to.
She is sure she knows the original password. She tried to reset her password and was unable to. Like I said she has this account for years and would like a way to get her account back with out starting a new one.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.
MP.Is there not some sort of "Forgot Password" option?Yes there is but she cannot answer the questions asked.
She knows her password she has had it for years? So, she definitely knows her password, right?  In other words, she actively used it each time she logged on to her email account, as opposed to having the password saved in her browser?

If she, indeed, knows her password and it's now not WORKING, that's cause for suspicion that someone knew her password and logged on to her account and changed the password.  In the future, if she gets this resolved, she should use a "stronger" password if she had previously use a weak password, and she should change it periodically.

I suspect she may have to start a new account, since she can not answer the security questions for initiating a resetting of her password via the "Forgot Password" option.  That's clearly the message I get from http://www.askdavetaylor.com/whats_my_yahoo_account_password.htmlYES - She knew her password 110%
NO - It was not an auto log in with the password already there

The thing that concerns her most is .... Her x-husband comes to the house when shes at work to play with her kids. Now the yahoo people or from what she could gather her password was changed on a day he's never there. Or it timed stamped the day before anyway.

She has lots of emails , from me lol and not what your thinking, that she wants to KEEP. There has to be a way she can get control of her own account? No?

Thanks much for the help so far and you've pretty much helped us conclude what we've assumed all along.I have a Yahoo email account but I've never gone through the "Forgot Password" procedure with them, so I don't know exactly what they ask.  http://email.about.com/cs/yahoomailtips/qt/et062801.htm indicates she should be able to go through the procedure by merely knowing birthday and ZIP code.  and though she should know her password, though I'd make sure no caps lock or num lock or something has been activated on the keyboard unexpectedly. Just a thought, maybe that causes a problem?

I have just logged onto my yahoo email account and have had no trouble at all.  All great responses and all have been tried. lol God knows she tried. Either all her info became corrupt or someone screwed with it. some ghostly yahoo email password that seems to be,
why it doesn't work now is just  to me.
even though she's sure it's 100% correct....
I hope it weren't some hacker that hacked the lock, but really, who's to know the real suspect?

If it hasn't been tried, did you try logging in from a different computer?

If it still fails, maybe ask her to contact Yahoo customer support,
Hopefully they can sort out the problem, and make the WAITING a wee bit short!

I'm sorry this had to happen but maybe have her try making a more secure password, with random letters, symbols and also some numbers!

Anyways ...  well, good luck and hopefully it works out for the best!

Thanks so much and i'll let you know the outcome. Quote from: MP1975 on June 19, 2009, 09:57:16 AM

Yes there is but she cannot answer the questions asked.

Why is that?

I wonder if there's some confusion over the USER ID.She scratches her head also. She "KNOWS" the answers to the questions being asked but they are not correct apparently. To Yahoo anyway.

Where is Sherlock Holmes when you need him. lol Hope you get a good solution, Yahoo customer service most likely GOING to want to try to get you squared away as soon as possible instead of risking the loss of another dissatisfied customer that couldn't get the issue resolved.  Never looked for a Yahoo phone number. Next chance I get.

CV ComputerVirgin..... First of all ...tell us which laptop it was your intention to purchase.  ( a brand name and model NUMBER )
Then it sounds as if you purchased your laptop after Christmas........
Was the packaging on the laptop original or had it been opened and then resealed ....... A lot of stuff gets returned right after Christmas and is simply resealed and put back on the shelves .......... So to answer your question ...its very possible you didnt get what you thought you had purchased ........
If that was the case Future Shop will certainly make it right for you .....but dont wait too long .

Solve : Pay As You Go (PAYGo) Broadband?

Answer»

We live in the UK. Up to now we have accessed the internet via a dial-up connection. Researching 'BROADBAND' (ADSL) we are told  we will be connected the moment we turn on the computer, in other words "always on".
If that is the case, where then do the terms "Pay As You Go Broadband", and "LOGGING on to broadband" fit into the scheme of things ??

Secondly, the idea of being permanently connected to the web gives me the heebee jeebees  . Once on broadband, is there a way of disconnecting when you want to use the computer for something other than SURFING ?  :-?

Thanks a lot
HollytreeYour first question seems FUZZY to me  :-/  You will need a DSL modem to have hi-speed access. YOuc an not use DSL with a phone lince going from the computer to the wall. To answer your second question... Yes, being on the net all the time can be scary. However, if you have proper PC protection, you have nothing to worry about. Have (1) Virus protection (2) FIREWALL (3) Spyware Protection. Those are the main ones. If you wish to disconnect, simply pull out the Ethernet or USB cord (whichever you use) from the computer. Easy as that. Keep us posted

Solve : Disaster recovery?

Anybody have any experience with disaster recovery? I had a hard drive, I guess the TERM is "crash", over the weekend, and some work I've been doing is on it. Some was backed up, but the most important, som of my wife's Christmas photos was not. They are of the grandkids & IRREPLACEABLE.
also about 4000 Karaoke songs prepared for the computer. I'd like to get them back if I can.
The drive was a slave 200gb Maxtor. The computer only recognized 135 gb of it, and I opened up and formatted the last 65gb. All was WORKING well, and I was USING both partitions,  until I did a system restore to undo some changes. When the restore was complete, the computer only saw the last 65 gb. The geek squad at our local Best Buy could not open it.
Any ideas?here is some software that MAY help, but if they are that important before trying ANYTHING at all, I WOULD contact a data recovery service. It can be kind of pricey, but..........

Solve : Data on portable drive?

Answer»

:questionLast saturday evening I tried to reboot my computer, but it failed to boot.
On monday I went to a computer place and they advised me that both the power supply and the mother BOARD are not working.

I have purchased a new computer and have taken the hard drive out of old computer and made it into a portable drive.

The new computer DETECTS & recognizes the "portable hard drive" and I can see the FILE folders, but when I try to open the folders I get the MESSAGE "Access is denied".

The REASON for this is probably because on the old computer after the reboot I had to log on with a password.

So how do I solve this

Any help will be appreciated.

Solve : C'mmon people, dump that IE, you're well behind Europe trend...?

Answer»

If it's anything like windows 98, they literally do remove half of it. they disable half the options and don't install the executable. In fact it REALLY isn't as "integrated" as they'd like to have us believe. unregister a few DLLs... and no more IE. Of course a LOT of features, namely active desktop, relied on this, and it was in fact (IMO) the MAIN reason they wanted IE there- the desktop team thought it would be neat if anybody could customize their folders using javascript. If only they had thought of the repurcussions...

For the most PART- it's just a matter of knowing which DLLs to unregister and/or remove; they are removable (the necessary COMPONENTS of windows don't rely on the IE enhancements)Do you have any idea how they will work around the updates?I SUSPECT, there are at least couple of smart people in Europe, who'll check, if M$ complies to whatever agreement it was. Solve : Need to Repair Network Connections, Why???

Answer»

I was just having this problem with my network connections, aboutevery hour or so, i need to right click and repair, and everything works fine again.... for a while i couldnt figure out why this was happening all of the sudden, then i finally FIGURED out what was causing this... the problem is from my wireless router, i have a non-wireless D-Link, that i use for 4 of my computers, and i have my wireless Linksys connected to my D-Link so that way one of my computers with a wireless network card would be able to connect to it.

I've had this set up for a while without a problem... But for some reason, it just started disconnecting me from the internet, and if i hit repair network connections it will come back alive.  But eventually, it will crash again and i would have to repair it again... It works fine forever when the second router is unplugged.. but i need it to be plugged in,  If anybody KNOWS a way around this ssituation, then PLEASE help me... Thanks.325is......  I need a bit of clarification ........ Do you have 4 wire connected pcs plus a wireless laptop .......or are you using the wired router ( D-Link) to feed the 3 wire connected pcs and the 4TH wired output port is feeding your Linksy wireless router ...... In any event ...it sounds as if there is some conflict between the D-Link and the Linksy routers.........Doesn't your Linksy router have the ability to provide either a wired or wireless output ......If it does, why not just use the Linksy wireless router to wire connect your 3 wired pcs and wireless to the laptop.

dl65  Two routers complicates things needlessly. I have a D-Link wireless and run both wired ( to 4 SYSTEMS) and wireless (to 3 more) in my house.dl65 - yes thats exactly how i have it set up, 3 to the D-Link and the 4th port connects to the wireless router Linksys.  I cant exactly connect the 3 to the wireless router because i have it in a different location in my house, so that way the wireless compter can get a good connection up stairs.  To me it seems as if there is an IP conflict or something, because this never use to happen.  and its not a labtop that is wireless, its another desktop that is upstairs.so i guess this is a dead subject cuz of no more replies? :-/Which router has DHCP activated? Or do you use static IPs?well, im not exactly sure.. how can i tell which router is set up to do what, and which type of connect i have?

Solve : Copied Files?

How can you tell if files have been COPIED from your computer?Control access to it with a logon password to prevent it. No way to tell after the fact.    :-/

What kinds of files are we talking? Thanks, e-mail folders, word and excel documents. Set a trap, put a keylogger on it. [smiley=evil.gif]Fed, you devil.

or

http://www.kmint21.com/keylogger/

A keylogger or SYSTEM logger is only going to allow you to see if someone on the computer has copied, viewed, and/or modified a file that is actually on the computer. If someone were to GAIN access to a computer from another computer I believe most (probably not all) keyloggers are not going to be able to log what that user does. Also unless it's a hardware keylogger (keylogger attached to the keyboard), booting into safe mode bypassess MANY keyloggers.

For this type of situation I woudl just recommend password protecting and/or encrypting the files you're concerned about. If he thinks someone has copied files remotely then he has more to worry about then if they did or not. Quote

Zenworks is not a game though

Yeah, I know. Didn't MEAN that's what he was using it for, just noting it's another use for the extension.

The only REFERENCE to games I can find is the Sega one. It was a file format they used during the SegaCD and Saturn period. From what I can tell, nothing since. Quote

I don't think that it's possible to run a business without stress.

Spot on.

To minimise the stress, either spend a lot of time learning about computer security or employ a consultant.Or SIMPLY setup a stress RELIEF clinic...Great idea patio.  Some people find Yoga or Tai-Chi very relaxing.  They both have their merits.Yoga and Coffee don't really mix do they? Solve : Can't open files after a restore after a creash?

Answer»

I'm running Windows Vista on an HP Laptop dv9000. Last week I had a problem trying to open any of 2007 Office Enterprise software programs (Word, Excel). HP advised I try a system restore which I did. The problem was fixed but only for a few hours. I couldn't UNINSTALL or re-install Office Enterprise. HP advised to run HP recovery Manager which I did. It blew my system, I couldn't boot up. I took to a repair service who said the hard drive was fine, just lost all the data. He re-installed Vista with the latest version and updates and so far all seem good.

I restored my files after multiple tries. The restore figured I was a different computer so I answered to restore to original settings (I ASSUME from prior to my crash). When the GUY restored Vista he gave my computer a different name, if that matters.

Anyway the end result is I can't open some of my files with Word as I get the message "Word cannot open the document: user does not have privileges". I've tried going into properties of these files using administrator but I can't change the settings.   Help!
Try This...It WORKED. It was a bit different screens for Vista and I had to figure out a few things but it does work. I had tried this before but I must have not done something crucial. I found that I had to add the same user again which seemed weird but it worked. I tried changing it by folder and passing that along to sub files but that didn't work. After a few hours of doing this for each file I now have my files back. Thank you so much.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. You're more than Welcome...

Solve : Road Runner & Cable - 1 Input?

Answer»

I currently have my computer set up in my room in front of the cable wire coming from the wall. I have the cable wire into my MODEM but I also have a t.v. that I need cable on. I tried to use a 2-way splitter but no DICE. Is there anything I can do to get Road Runner and regular cable with a splitter or SOMETHING? Thanks.Contact your cable company for the best solution. They do this ALL the time.Oh, okay. My dad is GOING to call them today. I do remember that my brother who uses the same ISP has one input but cable t.v. and road runner, I wonder how he did it.Probably a spliter, BUT sometimes you have to BOOST the signal as well so the TV reception does not suffer.

Solve : networking on windows 2000?

Answer»

i have 2 computers and im having a problem connecting through the network, whenever i access the other pc using the network neighborhood i have to use a  user and the password for me to able to access the pc, how can i remove the user and password so i can directly connect to the pc..  :-?You may add the user to SECURITY/sharing settings of the other computer.
Let's suppose you have computers "a", on which you log on with "userA", and computer "b", on which you log on with "userB".
You have more options (I have not read a windows book for some time, this year I will, but for now what I write here it's a "try and check" situation): enable the GUEST ACCOUNT on the computer with the share, and at security and sharing settings (right click on the shared folder, and choose security and sharing) add "everyone" or "guest" with the desired rights; at the same security and sharing options, for the shared folder (let's suppose the share is on "b") add "a/userA" (I have not tried that OPTION) with the desired rights. If the share it's on "a", then the user will be "b/userB".
Tell me if it works, I'm curious CREATE the same user eg.USER on both computer and login as this user.

Solve : Re: Can you see through Windows??

Answer»

While being expensive and somewhat UNRELIABLE, it is up to the user to get computer literate and keep things in line. Microsoft is a decent system, which I have not found many rip offs with.

FlameYeh, but DOS still rules...   Windows just makes the MONITOR screen look pretty..."Can you see through Windows?"

I assume that if I select Yes that means I like Windows. So I did.

Let's face it. Windows has a heckuva lot more freedom than DOS. I learned DOS last year on a whim. It was fairly simple, and I was writing batch files in no time. I made DOS almost as customizable as Windows. But DOS can't access the Internet without Windows. 3D-Rendering is impossible with DOS, and I am a heavy gamer. DOS is incapable of using a Recycle Bin, unless you write a batch file to banish those files to a specific folder. And then you can't Restore items you put there, unless perhaps you write a batch file 50 lines long. Windows has programs that DOS could never do, such as Calculator. The search feature, CHKDSK, is good, except it gets a wee bit irritating if you need to check my 200 GB hard drive. Also, in DOS you can only run one PROCESS at once. I am running Firefox and Windows Media Player right now. That's something else. No music on DOS, or even sound beyond differently-pitched beeps.

Well, that's my 50 cents. When DOS was in its heyday all of those things could be done, including multi-tasking. There were many excellent utilities that have fallen by the wayside and are no longer available since the advent of Windows. Though DOS does have limitations which Windows seem to overcome, don't under estimate the power of the OS. Windows has its own limitations, and much of those ACT to limit the power of the user.

Solve : Sounds as in Audio output.?

Answer»

I reboot my laptop and the speakers work fine.
I playback a cd and nothing. BUT this is the CD drive i'm looking to replace so not to worried.
I play songs from I tunes and you can see the equilizer doing its thing but no SOUNDS come out the speakers.
I also just noticed and it had to just very recently happen the touch control on my HP Pavilion Dv2000 is not working at all? I just tapped it very hard, the touch control, and I now have audio.

I was GOING to uninstall the DRIVERS, Conextant HD Audio, and reboot hoping that would reinstall the drivers. I don't have access to the net with the laptop from work so my options for TROUBLE SHOOTING are limited here.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

Solve : Appilcation failed to initialze message..?

Answer»

Hi I am new here. I am desperate and exhausted, too.

In the last day, I went to use my printer and I got a message that said the application failed to initialize properly. I have tried seeing if the driver is ok..it is working, says my computer. I don't think it's a driver issue, though?
Should I go to Run? I also went to msconfig and can't find the letters the message gave me..the .exe
I have unplugged, restarted, etc. Should I remove and re-install?

PLEASE, if anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate!Frustration4Me......Unfortunately our resident  mindreader has taken a few days off.
If you provide a few DETAILS ....for example ....which operating system are you using ? What is the make and model number of your printer ? What type of printer cable are you using ?
Quote

I also went to msconfig and can't find the letters the message gave me
What letters are you refering to ?

let us know

dl65  Thanks for the reply!  I am running Windows XP..my printer is a Lexmark X74-X75. Gateway desktop PC just 2 1/2 yrs. old
Those letters were part of the error message. and followed by.exe
As for the cable, I am ignorant . It is on a surge protector.Start by uninstalling the printer software, reboot and then reinstall it. Some USB printers have to have the software installed first and then after a reboot plug in the printer. I'm not sure if you have a small USB cable or a large parallel port cable (which would plug into the large 24 pin port on the back of your computer - probably purple)OK  the cable is a small white usb.
Thanks and I will try this out. Btw, do I need to unplug everything after i re-install?
Sorry..I am learning ..just takes me time.

ALso, I did unplug last night and right CLICKED on an e-mail. It printed.
But this morning, I went to the Lexmark All- in- One Center to print some papers, and got the same error message.
Their SOLUTION site is of no help.

Thank you for your PATIENCE. Quote

Uninstall, shut off the machine, reboot, install software, reboot and insert USB plug. That should get it.OK, I don't know how this happened but..I was having trouble getting into e-mail, then a song would not stop playing, I lost my temper, and I just shut everything down. When I turned it back on..there was a message from Windows saying they strongly recommened that I let them check a disc.

So I read what they were doing..correcting errors, etc..and after the restart..my printer works again!
I had just been ready to do the uninstall..I have been sick and couldn't get to it yet.

What a strange experience..and it took about 4 days for them to put the message up.
I want to thank everyone here for their help and patience. It is greatly appreciated.
