Solve : Can't open files after a restore after a creash?

Answer»

I'm running Windows Vista on an HP Laptop dv9000. Last week I had a problem trying to open any of 2007 Office Enterprise software programs (Word, Excel). HP advised I try a system restore which I did. The problem was fixed but only for a few hours. I couldn't UNINSTALL or re-install Office Enterprise. HP advised to run HP recovery Manager which I did. It blew my system, I couldn't boot up. I took to a repair service who said the hard drive was fine, just lost all the data. He re-installed Vista with the latest version and updates and so far all seem good.

I restored my files after multiple tries. The restore figured I was a different computer so I answered to restore to original settings (I ASSUME from prior to my crash). When the GUY restored Vista he gave my computer a different name, if that matters.

Anyway the end result is I can't open some of my files with Word as I get the message "Word cannot open the document: user does not have privileges". I've tried going into properties of these files using administrator but I can't change the settings.   Help!
Try This...It WORKED. It was a bit different screens for Vista and I had to figure out a few things but it does work. I had tried this before but I must have not done something crucial. I found that I had to add the same user again which seemed weird but it worked. I tried changing it by folder and passing that along to sub files but that didn't work. After a few hours of doing this for each file I now have my files back. Thank you so much.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. You're more than Welcome...
