I've been trying to run chkdsk on my HP Pavilion dv2000 running XP twice now. I reboot, the blue screen comes up and ASKS me if I'd like to cancel I have 8 seconds left it ticks down to zero then it tells me chkdsk has COMPLETED and the line underneath that tells me chkdsk has been canceled?

Hi all

The files on the 2 GB USB drive are missing! I try to search or explore the USB, it tells me to insert it again. At FIRST it told me to format my Pendrive.

Very worryingly, other USB drives work fine in the ports...

Is my files inside the USB all gone and corrupted? The light still works on the stick.

Is there any USB rescue program that can save my files? I do back up, but I haven't backed up for a few days and I desperately need these files (of course)

I LOOK forward to hearing of any programs that can assist retrieve files/data from a possibly damaged USB drive.

Hi, im only new here and  so i hope im not going to sound too stupid.  Anyway Im HOPING SOMEONE can help I have logitech headphones which have three options, listening to voice, music, or dvd.  When listening to skype no problem but if I want to listen to music either CD or via you tube or the like there is no sound coming through likewise watching DVD.   Can anyone help?  Thankswhat operating system are you using? I have a Microsoft Intelitype/Point 5.2 on my computer and both the mouse and keyboard constantly stick. I'm running on windows xp, have downloaded the latest updates on my computer, and even checked my usb port on my device manager and it says its working fine. I installed fresh batteries but that DOESNT seem to help. I can't return the thing any more so I'd like to come up with a solution to this. Any ideas, anyone? :-?Wha about if you UNINSTALL the items in Device Manager and restart the machine?

I was useing the hub as the MJ DEVICE took up too much room on the back of the computer and over-lapped the other PORTS that I use for the printer and camera. However, now that I reloaded the USB controllers, I can now use the other ports on the front of the tower that were previously inoperable.
The MJ still loads slow, but I can use it.  All if well.  Thank you.Is this a powered USB hub ? ?

limited bandwidth internet users like me are RUNNING out of bandwidth because of non useful flash ADS,HEADERS etc.

Yuo could try safe mode but if you were up to it I would just RESTORE...

You might lose some stuff but your pc will run much faster and youll not have to uninstall all of the accounts one by one...

I don't know what a batch file is but usually something,like that can be sorted with a reinstall and somtimes a reinstall can do a lot of good Go into safe mode and delete them.

Yes, everything will look bigger on your screen, but it will suffice to get them removed. It's best to let Windows remove them INDIVIDUALLY instead of trying to use some quick fix. Each user account creates individual folders and files which get deleted when the account is deleted through the user accounts in the control panel.

It will be time consuming, but at least you won't have to worry about losing anything in a system restore or reinstall.

Alternatively, in safe mode, you can go to User Accounts, select "Change the way users log on or off", uncheck "Use the Welcome screen". Then, when you reboot, manually type in the user account you want to use. That should get you to into your NORMAL account and (if you have admin control) you can remove the accounts there. After you're done, recheck the "Use the Welcome screen" to return it to normal.

stuWhat's your OS?  When you connected the monitor to your laptop, you saw a window asking you how you WANT to use the monitor, right?  You need to tell Windows you want to "Extend your desktop to this monitor". 

I can't answer your question about the tv.  But, I'm inclined to think using the extra monitor you have is a better choice than using the tv as a monitor.im using windows XP and did not see a window saying how i wanted to use the monitor

I have two computers, both Dells, one is a hyper-threader the other is a quad workstation.
I've upgraded the RAM in both, (for the hyper threader from 1.25 gbs to 2.0 gbs.
On the workstation from 2.5 gbs to 3.0.
Both are now operatiing a bit slower, is there a reason for this?
I know they aren't at max, but does it reach a point where more ram is not necessary?

To answer your questions, I think we need more info.  What type and speed of RAM was in the two computers before the UPGRADE?  What type of speed of RAM is the new RAM?  Did you COMBINE the older RAM with the new, or completely replace the older RAM? 

Exactly what models are those Dell computers?  Do you know whether your Win XP in each is 32 bit or 64 bit versions of Windows?  Where did you get the memory? 

it is ddr ram, I purches it at a store using a stick of old ram as a constant.
on the hyper, I had a stick of one gig and one of 256mb, and it worked fine
I have replaced the 256 with a stick of 1 gig, which seems to be slower.
on the workstation, I had two gigs of 1 ram and 2 of 256mbs. the workstation has FOUR slots but they must be paired.

It uses sd memory cards. I wish I had another computer but I don't. But I never thought of that. Good idea. Its funny just last week everything worked OK. These pics are importing. I mounted my camera on a BICYCLE to take these pics but I don't THINK the vibration would have anything to do with importing them into my pc.Does you camera seem to be working correctly when taking pictures?  Can you view photos on the LED screen on the camera? Could you take your camera memory card to a photo developing kiosk (Walmart, Target, etc.) and put your card in their machine and see whether you can view the photos?

I have a huge image FILE with like 4000 images. I only need 1200 of them.
How can I compare a EXCEL LIST of the images I need with the image file. I want to pull or COPY just those images to a file?

the images are labeled:
ja100.jpg, ja200.jpg, hja300.jpg, ja400.jpg, uja500.jpg, sja100.jpg, and so on.

My list has: ja100.jpg, ja200.jpg, hja300.jpg, uja500.jpg, and so on.

So what I want to do is compare the image files with the excel list and come out with a file with the image I need in it.

(Huge image file)      (excel list of NEEDED images)  =   (Image file with just the images I need).

My GRANDSONS comp.stopped functioning after a storm hit & blewout

the TRANSFORMER on the light pole. The comp can be turned on with the

case switch, the CPU fan goes on the led light ,the drives work[hd,cd/dvd]

but no power to the monitor,usb ports!!! The psu I checked out with meter

all wattages are correct. Now I think that  the problem is with the CPU or

  Phoenix Tech. is the manufacturer and that is the problem. It just takes you there.
  Freezes, hangs, stack dumps and other annoying stuff. I've run all the windows utilities, I've got minimal startup, no screen saver and I can't get through a Spybot, SAS or Avast scan without a FREEZE. I've even frozen up on the occasional defrag.

I have a Sony RDR-VX535 DVD Recorder/VFC COMBO I (need to change DVD2 to DVD3) in the Command Mode - because my Remote Control won't work at all, It FLASHES DVD2 on the display. Does anyone KNOW how to change the command mode to DVD3 the default?Help is on it's way.
Talked with Sony, take your remote out of the room and PRESS and hold the enter button and the 2 number at the same time this will set it to that code. Then you can GO in and set factory defaults. Then do the same for the 3. Hope this helps you it did me.I features out how to unlock the remote shortly after I posted the problem. Back on July 21.

I saw one of the forum user's sigs with their [email protected] info and it reminded me that I always WANTED to try it.  I first heard about it way back when, but my computer was pretty outdated.  Later, I heard that PS3's were being put to work on the project as well.  Sadly, I was never much of a console-gamer and my computer was still sub-par.  Well, I just bought a new computer and am now contributing under CH's team since the forum SIG led me there (Just 5,000/10,000 on the first PACKET so far).

When I open up the [email protected] Display now, it SHOWS 210 ns / day.  I also see that my EPU-6 Engine (set to Auto-Mode) has the computer running at Max Power Saving Mode when only [email protected] is running, I assume this is ok.Welcome to the Team ! !

Go inside Broadcom-Script and type sudo su – ; chmod +x bcm43xx_enabler.sh ; ./bcm43xx_enabler.sh to run the installer. Don’t worry, I’ve added the correct values for our internal Dell 1395 Wi-Fi. Once that runs, close Terminal and open up Disk Utility. Repair disk permissions just in case and then reboot your computer. AirPort should appear on your menu bar and you’ll be able to find your wireless network and get online.

Unzip the archive from the previous step and open Terminal in Leopard on the Dell mini. Type in sudo and drag the bcm43xx_enabler.sh icon to the Terminal window. Press the Enter key, type in your admin password on the keyboard and follow the instructions. (For those who don’t like to read - basically press Enter four times and restart).

ok I'm after some advice on a weird thing that happpened today.

Last night I was using my laptop on my home network. I was on a site that we'll say was 'Not suitable for work". I was BROWSING in private mode in IE. I finished browsing, closed all windows and shut down. I have no recollection of anything else unsual.

This morning at work I plugged into my work network. I did not notice anything unusual. I certainly had no prompts to print anything.

After a few minutes I had cause to print a word document. I did so and went to collect from the shared printer.

Underneath the word document (and another document someone else had printed) was a 4 page print out of the NSFW web page I had browsed the night before.

I was lucky enough to find and remove.

The only explanations I can think of are:

1. It is a complete coincidence. Someone else viewed the site at work and decided to print. They have spend today wondering who has their print out. I do not however think anyone at my workplace is stupid enough to do this.

2. I accidentally hit print off IE last night and somehow I am networked so that my computer can access the work network and sent to print there. I am not aware that this is the case. Our external access is rubbish. I can BARELY access webmail out of OFFICE.

3. I accidentally hit print off IE last night and it stored the output file and printed it as soon as I connected to a network with a printer on. I have no recollection of a dialogue box to print this file.

4. I have some malware that has made this happen. Why has it chosen this site and not a non NSFW site?

5. Someone is tracking my surfing and printed out said file as a mysterious warning. Unlikely but who KNOWS. 

None of these options really stack up. Frankly I'm a little freaked out. Can anyone suggest what can be happening here. Oh and before the advice comes - don't use a laptop that I may use at work for NSFW content. Yip. Check. Agree.

Is there ANYWAY I can get stuff from my hard drive that I erased like PICS and music. Do you mean files that you deleted? Have you checked your Recycle Bin? If your files are no longer in the Recycle Bin, PLEASE wait for an expert to reply on your post.

http://www.recuva.com/Heh, just realised I got one of these as well.... Don't know how they got my email though....stop using your computer immediately. If you have deleted a file from the recycle bin, the file is still on your computer.

Windows has simply marked the file you deleted out of recycle bin as junk and when something OVERWRITES that "junk", then it is finally PERMANENTLY removed. Now, when you use Recuva or other software to try to recover files, install the recovery program to a different location than the file you want to recover, else you might lose it forever.Hard drives work like this (in easy to understand terms).

A fresh 100gb hard drive has 100gb of never used space. We can call it free space *. When you have a file, it uses up free space.

Let's say that you have a file on the hard drive that takes up 1gb. That means that there is 1gb of used space and 99gb of free space *. If you delete that file, it becomes regular free space, able to be used, but also recovered. That means that the drive has 1gb of free space and 99gb of free space*. When you create a new file, the computer will try and use as little free space as possible, and if it must, use the oldest free space it has. This will maximize the amount of time you have before deleted files are overwritten (gone for good). Although the time is maximized, recovering lost files should be a priority.

may i request a LITTLE bit of your patience to solve the problem that i am facing....

1.  Normally when using MS power  PT one can take out a slide print out using A4 size printer and paper.
2.  But what if you have to put it on a notice bd and want to have a large print out ..... I have possibly used a feature called as 'poster printing' in powerpoint earlier.
3.  This enabled the same slide to be PRINTED in a scaled up MANNER (eg 1:2, 1:4 etc) on A4 size papers. To explain further .... one slide will be printed on 4 sheets of paper with dotted lines on the inner edges and when cut and joined together it forms a larger print of the original slide as on the single sheet of A4 size paper.

THE PROBLEM IS I AM NOT ABLE TO FIND IT ANYWHERE ON OFFICE 2007 POWER POINT.

I would like to upgrade it some more but dont really have a idea on what.
I can upgrade my OS but will that make it any better?

I've been here several times before and you guys and gals are the greatest and have helped everytime. My girlfriends daughter has a major issue and I will be back when I have full details.

Here's my reason for this post.  While PERUSING around here I tried the April tip and changing my boot.ini from 1 to 2. As usual the information was dead center and my PC booted in record time the only thing is I received a System message. It's as follows ;

You have used the system CONFIGURATION utility to make changes to the way windows starts.

The system configuration utility is currently in diagnostic or selective start up mode, causing
this message to be DISPLAYED and the utility to run everytime Windows starts.

Choose the normal start up mode on the general tab to start windows normally and undo the
changes you made using the system configuration utility.

Don't show this message or launch the system configuration utility when windows starts.


It "SOUNDS" , to me anyway, if I check this box it Will no longer run the utility or enable my computer to run so fast.

What Operating System?In the april tips it says to go to start, run, msconfig boot.ini where it says multi go to anvanced and change 1 to 2. Thats pretty close but I can't remember WORD for word. I did follow the instructions line for line. I rebooted and it was lighteming fast then that banner popped up.  Click Start and Run (for XP) and type: msconfig and press enter. 
 Click the BOOT.INI or BOOT tab.
XP users highlight the line beginning with "multi" if not already selected and click the Advanced Options button.
In the Advanced Options Window for /NUMPROC= or Number of Processors change it to 2.
REBOOT the computer.

This will help you better and i AM RUNNING xp.

In MSCONFIG, on the general tab, make sure Normal Setup is checked.The numproc area greyed out, if you know what I mean, but it still seems to be a lot faster then before and no more message.

Every time I retart computer the color quality goes BACK to 8 bit. I have tried to UPDATE drivers, but computer tells me they are all up to date. I have to go to display settings  every time and change from 8 bit to 32 bit and everything is fine until I shut down and restart. Pleeeeze help, really annoyingMore info on the PC; what OS ;the vid card if applicable and what happened prior to this and someone will be along shortly...Dell inspiron 1100 w/ windows XP HOME editionNothing unusual happened, I have spybot but it has no EFFECT on this problem. Dell's are very finicky about drivers...
Travel to Dell's site...enter your service tag # from the back of the machine and dload and re-install the PROPER drivers...
Remember to re-boot after doing so.Thanks very much I will try that.
