Solve : Pay As You Go (PAYGo) Broadband?

Answer»

We live in the UK. Up to now we have accessed the internet via a dial-up connection. Researching 'BROADBAND' (ADSL) we are told  we will be connected the moment we turn on the computer, in other words "always on".
If that is the case, where then do the terms "Pay As You Go Broadband", and "LOGGING on to broadband" fit into the scheme of things ??

Secondly, the idea of being permanently connected to the web gives me the heebee jeebees  . Once on broadband, is there a way of disconnecting when you want to use the computer for something other than SURFING ?  :-?

Thanks a lot
HollytreeYour first question seems FUZZY to me  :-/  You will need a DSL modem to have hi-speed access. YOuc an not use DSL with a phone lince going from the computer to the wall. To answer your second question... Yes, being on the net all the time can be scary. However, if you have proper PC protection, you have nothing to worry about. Have (1) Virus protection (2) FIREWALL (3) Spyware Protection. Those are the main ones. If you wish to disconnect, simply pull out the Ethernet or USB cord (whichever you use) from the computer. Easy as that. Keep us posted
