Answer» I just got a new video card (ati radeon 9600xt) and it recommends having a 300 watt power SUPPLY. I have a 250 watt power supply. After I installed the new card I started getting the error message "Alert: system BATTERY VOLTAGE low". I talked to the Dell customer support people and they're saying my cmos battery needs to be replaced. Is the new video card draining energy from the battery? Is the alert reffering to the cmos battery? Or are the Dell support people on crack? It will print first page first if preferences are set to "print last page first" In other words, it prints opposite to the SEQUENCE selected. Answer» OK heres one that has me stumped. I upgraded my computer to a new P4 3.0 gig cpu,, 800 FSB Biostar MoBo, 512 RAM, New 450 watt power supply. I just this week put in a new 120 gig HD, New Radeon Video card. New Sound card. Everything brand new. Now heres where it just gets me everytime,,, i am BURNING a dvd ,,in windows explorer,, or simply doing anything,, The whole system locks up. the two lights on the front of the computer are lit,, one is the reset and one is power. I have wiped this system clean 3 different times now ( XP home edition )and every single time ,, the system locks up on me,, I have no idea what it could be,, its like buying a new car and the engine wont start. I have configured different types of hardware devices ,, new sound, video,, etc,, and it still does this,, I dont know what in the world could be taking control of the system and totally locking it up,, Does anyone have any ideas? The only thing thats left ,, is something in the case,, or perhaps the nic card,, theres also a firewire card in there. Its kinda like fishing,, it doesnt happen everytime,, ya gotta be patient and it will COME,,Other then buying another version of windows or switching out the case for another one,, im not sure what else i can do. i have taken it to a tech to mess with and he just rewiped it and that was it,, any input is appreciated RichHave you tried a different stick of ram?At what point in your upgrade process did it start happening? You can search regedit.com for more info on a reghack to correct it.well the lockup comes when i am burning copies of my dvds,, I swapped out the single 512 ram chip with another one....and i actually added another fan to draw out the heat from the computer,, all the cards are seated properly and the thing still locks up. I dont know where else to go,,I am taking it back next Tuesday for them to look at it,, again, hopefully worst case scenerio,, they can just give me an AMD setup and take back this one. The fastest way for me to intentionally lock up the system is to copy discs,, but it will lock up, just by surfing the web or windows explorer,,, so it certainly has me stumped,, ive NEVER seen anything like this before,,

Answer» Hello, every time i BOOT up my computer i get the following message : cannot import sys.reg Error opening the file. there MAY be a disk or file system error. What can I do to fix this? Also, I BOUGHT new virus scan and found quite a few. Whenever i run the virus scan it KEEPS telling me that I have a program called Adware Gator. It wont let me remove it so I quarrantine every time. 5608.	Solve : Windows XP 64-bit won't recognize SATA HD?
Answer» I just built a new system from the ground up and I bought a seagate 160 GB 7200 rpm serial ATA hard drive. I went to install Windows XP 64-bit edition (because I am running a 64-bit platform) and of COURSE the windows setup did not detect my hard drive by its'self...so i pressed F6 to install the drivers and I used the drivers that came with the CD, however it doesn't work with those drivers it WOULD give me an error message saying a file was corrupt. So I tried the drivers from my motherboard manufacturer, those didn't work either...Long story short I've tried just about every driver i could find and NONE of them work. So I thought it might be the OS (considering that windows xp 64-bit is still beta) so i tried a copy of windows 2000...and it would recognize the drivers however it would not install them...I am now at a loss as of what to do next...should i get a standard IDE hard drive...should I return this drive...If anyone could help me with this issue I'd greatly APPRECIATE it. Answer» Hi everyone xD I've just (nearly) finished programming an online market simulator game (access it at www.vcp.co.nz). I think it's pretty good, I've been working on it since may, and it's won a couple of awards now (local science fair/New ZEALAND national technology fair) and been nominated for a couple of others. I'm just looking at getting people to use it and then tell me their thoughts - i have about 50 users now, controlling 100 companies. There is no real FAQ yet but its very straightforward to play, uses basic economics principles in managing a company and playing a stock market. If you want to register, its completely free as well as being ad-free and low on the bandwidth. I made the entire thing in programmers notepad in php, and one of my friends did all the pictures in PHOTOSHOP. It's just a MUD, but it'd be awesome to get peoples opinions. And also, criticism is more than welcome - if you think it could be improved, TELL ME. CheersJust tried it out, good work, seems pretty similar to those old HTML/server-based games that seemed to be popular a while ago (no idea if they are now) Only problems I could see are mostly cosmetic; STATISTICS page has a white bg (probably should be black), a few places where HTML entities show up (the side bar says -> when you expand it, but again I imagine this is all being tweaked. You might want to make the terms and conditions more serious... although, come to think of it, my blog privacy policy makes me a hypocrite by saying that. Yeah thats a firefox problem, the - none of the other browsers (chrome, opera, ie, safari) have it as so far as I know (i test with chrome, opera, and IE, beta testers report safari/firefox stuff). Answer» Running WinXP Pro. When I install a program it does not SHOW up on programs menu. Under "documents and SETTINGS" in directory I have a folder called "all users" and one called "Office" which is the name logged on to, and is the only choice given at logon. The installed programs seem to be going to the "office" folder but my start/run/programs is showing the "all users" programs. Also the programs only show 3 ROWS and end with the programs STARTING in "m". Both program folders show considerable more programs than APPEAR on the Start/Programs menu. Bruce

Answer» No matter how high I set the volume levels, I get low output from the speakers. I'm using a SoundBlaster PCI 128 sound card. I'm pretty SURE my sister SCREWED it up SOMEHOW, since she's been known to put several trojans and malware on my computer... i.e. "COOLWEBSTUFF!!" folders, etc etc Anyway, I've tried MAKING sure EVERYTHING is connected properly, and it is. Answer» I get taken in by TSRs alot. I look for FREE screensavers and wind up with these whirly-gigs that sit on my desktop and really worm up my computer. I know not to run these things, HOWEVER I keep thinking that some where....ah yes, that place...there is a really K*A screensaver place. My question: is it overly dangerous to toy with these weird PROGRAMS at the "free"sites?? :-/ With a reasonable level of updated protection you should be OK.Spy-Bot acts funny...it removes all the gunk, but says that I must restart for it to remove acouple of programs that are in memory, and when I restart, it does the same thing again?? :-/When spybot asks to run at startup, it attempts to do SCAN BEFORE any nastys get loaded into memory. Allow it to complete the scan. You should ALSO run ad-aware. Each program has its own strengths and one will often find and eliminate something that the other doesn't.

I am trying to find a WAY to convert them each to an audiobook to help me read and study the documents, including listening to while out. I'd say it was made with your basic cursive font, but it might have been squed.
Make the text you want in Photoshop, shrink it, STRETCH it, and then emboss it with a silver background...

Answer» OK, so we spend a good portion of our day helping people with computer problems, of varying complexity and severity. Next TIME you think a problem posted here is serious, remember the poor sod working at Tech Support who got this call!* SuperMac records a certain number of technical support calls at random, to keep tabs on customer satisfaction. By wild "luck," they managed to catch the following conversation on tape. Some poor SuperMac TechSport got a call from some middle level official...from the legitimate government of Trinidad. The fellow spoke very good English and fairly calmly described the problem. It seemed there was a coup attempt in progress at that MOMENT. However, the national armoury for that city was kept in the same building as the Legislature, and it seems that there was a combination lock on the door to the armoury. Of the people in the capitol city that day, only the Chief of the Capitol Guard and the Chief Armourer knew the combination to the lock, and they had already been killed. So, this officer of the government of Trinidad continued, the problem is this. The combination to the lock is stored in a file on the Macintosh, but the file has been encrypted with the SuperMac product called Sentinel. Was there any chance, he asked, that there was a "back door" to the application, so they could get the combination, open the armoury door, and defend the Capitol Building and the legitimately elected government of Trinidad against the insurgents? All the while he is asking this in a very calm voice, there is the sound of gunfire in the background. The Technical Support GUY put the person on hold. A phone call to the phone company verified that the origin of the call was in fact Trinidad. Meanwhile, there was this mad scramble to see if anybody knew of any "back doors" in the Sentinel program. As it turned out, Sentinel USES DES to encrypt the files, and there was no known back door. The Tech Support fellow told the customer that aside from trying to guess the password, there was no way through Sentinel, and that they'd be better off trying to physically destroy the lock. The official was very polite, thanked him for the effort, and hung up. That night, the legitimate government of Trinidad fell. One of the BBC reporters mentioned that the casualties seemed heaviest in the capitol, where for some reason, there seemed to be little return fire from the government forces. Ok, so they shouldn't have kept the combination in so precarious a fashion. But it does place "I can't see my Microsoft Mail server" complaints in a different sort of perspective, does it not? *Actually, this isn't real. But STILL, it's moral is correct. I saw an advertisement poster for some kind of travel laptop, with a picture of a snake, asking, "You're stuck xxx miles in the jungle, and just bitten by a snake. How do you find out the antidote?" Google search for, snake antidote. Unable to connect to proxy sever. Please contact your network administrator. Running network setup wizard. Connection established. Would you like a free car? 5624.	Solve : Xbox joypad help?
Answer» (not sure if this is the right place for this) one's a standard pad. The wire CAME loose on the inside of the joypad. I took out the six screws to try fix it but the pad still wouldnt open up. How can I get around this? It's such a simple TASK I don't fancy buying a new one. my other joypad is an intec turbo pad with programmable buttons. That means you push the 'program' button then tap a few keys. The pad then remembers the pattern and places it into one button. Like installing Ryu's Ha Do Ken into the X button. The problem is, I don't know how to reset it so it behaves normal. I lost the instructions ages ago and can't find it on the net. So any HELP is gratefully appreciated.No Idea about the first pad, but with the macro programmable pad could you not just PRESS the programme button, then the X button, then the programme button again (if that's how you stop it that is).There are actually more than 6 screws. The others are underneith the stickers on the back.

Answer» Hello Dears, I am Walid Antar, a NEW member to this forum, asking forhelp to extract 84 files of extentions (may be .STY or .sth) from two files of extentions .st1 and .st2 . The two file contains styles (rythems) for a keyboard. I found that .st1 and .st2 = SPICE : Status but also there are extensions ( .$01 and .$02 ) which are DOS Pipe files and also for midi file. Knowing that styles are midi files and these files (.st1 and .st2) must be put in floppy disk then attaching them to the keyboard via its floppy drive while operating and pressing a spesific key at the same time. I like to know these things :0) thanks for your replay :0)I have downloaded the file from the site you posted, unzipped it and created floppy disks and now cannot understand your query about expanding the .st files which do not seem to need expanding from their present form. Instructions on how to load the .st file contents into the Roland instrument are contained in the .pdf file which is included with the unzipped files. Your queries about Spice : Status and DOS pipe file come from considering only file extensions. Spice is a name which can be applied to an analog circuit simulator, a telecom company in India, a thin browser and many other things. A Dos pipe file is generally a temporary file created when using the DOS Pipe feature. I think you can safely ignore these when considering the Roland instrument .st files. If you have created the files on floppy disks from the disk images you should now proceed to load the content into the Roland instrument following the instructions in the .pdf file. Good luck

They give u more performance each clock cycle. That is why the E6300 @ 1.86Ghz would be better than a Pentium D 920 @ 2.8Ghz, even though it seems pretty crazy. You can also tell this, by the price. The E6300 costs 180$, while the Pentium D 920 costs 115$. Not ONLY that, but the E6300 can overclock up to 3.0Ghz, making it the same as the X6800, the most powerfull CPU on earth by far. That is why the E6300 is not only the fastest CPU out of the BOX, but it has the most potential of all the CPU's currently released. It is the best price/performance effective CPU that has ever been released, giving u 1000$ worth of performance (price of the X6800) for only 150-180$. The only thing that the E6300 (Allendale) CPU dose not have better is cache. It has only 2MB for 2 cores, while the more expensive Core 2 Duos (the ones called Conroe, wich are the E6600 and up) have 4MB of cache. This dosent improve performance all that much, but is important to some enthusiests. Even the Pentium D 920 has 4MB, but in no way does that make it better. *Note that u should also buy a great cooler for the E6300 to make the overclock much and easier, perform better, reduce temperatures and thus prolong it's life. I reccomend the Zalman CNPS9700 heatpipe cooler. The Core 2 Duo CPUs are the finest ever created and i hope to also have one of them soon. Enjoy! Yes, it is the latter.

The Core 2 Duo family is the succesor to the Pentium D family. They give u more performance each clock cycle. That is why the E6300 @ 1.86Ghz would be better than a Pentium D 920 @ 2.8Ghz, even though it seems pretty crazy.
You can also tell this, by the price. The E6300 costs 180$, while the Pentium D 920 costs 115$.

Not ONLY that, but the E6300 can overclock up to 3.0Ghz, making it the same as the X6800, the most powerfull CPU on earth by far. That is why the E6300 is not only the fastest CPU out of the BOX, but it has the most potential of all the CPU's currently released.

It is the best price/performance effective CPU that has ever been released, giving u 1000$ worth of performance (price of the X6800) for only 150-180$. The only thing that the E6300 (Allendale) CPU dose not have better is cache. It has only 2MB for 2 cores, while the more expensive Core 2 Duos (the ones called Conroe, wich are the E6600 and up) have 4MB of cache. This dosent improve performance all that much, but is important to some enthusiests. Even the Pentium D 920 has 4MB, but in no way does that make it better.

*Note that u should also buy a great cooler for the E6300 to make the overclock much and easier, perform better, reduce temperatures and thus prolong it's life. I reccomend the Zalman CNPS9700 heatpipe cooler.

The Core 2 Duo CPUs are the finest ever created and i hope to also have one of them soon. Enjoy!

You should still be able to install an aftermarket cooler.

If u already know what components u want, u dont have to buy an already built PC, or u can at LEAST buy each part seperatly and have the company build it for u especially. The "best" depends on what you want to do.I'm not sure I will be overclocking, especially as I'm not sure what it is! Haha. I will be using the computer for general mutimedia, internet and a wee BIT if gaming now and then. Nothing too testing.

But while running the scan, you notice that the data regarding the file currently being scanned (you know, next to the blue arrow) OFTEN changes in color from black to red or green. As of now my pc is working with 1 piece of 256 MB Ram PC266
and im planning to add another PC266 1 piece of 512 MB RAM (and i dont know if they are the same BRAND)

I have found a screen capture program that will capture the slides, but my problem is the music that I have added into the slideshow. The screen capture program can record sound through a microphone as the slideshow plays, but I need to record the sound that comes out of the speaker. I have tried simply putting the microphone in front of the speaker and record it that way, but it did not come out well. I was wondering if there was a way to directly hook up the speaker, such as through the headphone jack, to the microphone jack and record it that way, or maybe hook up a wire from the output jack to the input jack so that my music will record in sync with my presentation?
