Solve : Sound input/output help?

Answer»

Hi. I have made a slideshow using PowerPoint and now I am TRYING to make it so it will play on DVD players so it can be watched on a TV. I have found a screen capture program that will capture the slides, but my problem is the music that I have added into the slideshow. The screen capture program can record sound through a microphone as the slideshow plays, but I need to record the sound that comes out of the speaker. I have tried simply putting the microphone in front of the speaker and record it that way, but it did not come out well. I was wondering if there was a way to directly hook up the speaker, such as through the headphone jack, to the microphone jack and record it that way, or maybe hook up a wire from the output jack to the input jack so that my music will record in sync with my presentation? And if this is possible, which type of connection cord would I need?

Thank you so much!!!I'm not sure I follow all of this. But, if you basically want to know how to connect an external electronic sound device via a headphones jack on that device to the sound card on your computer, you need a adapter or cord that has plugs on both ends. I BOUGHT a 6 foot cord at Radio SHACK to record sound on my computer from a tape player so that I can convert some old music tapes to digital format. One end of the cord is connected to the Line In connector on my sound card. Does that help?Yes, that does help, thanks. That sounds like what I need. I was looking on the Radio Shack website, but I'm not sure what I am looking for. Do you know what kind of cord it is or what it is called?or www.cyberguys.com They have ALL types of gadgets. Just tell them what you want to do and they'll take it from there. Quote

I can't find it on their website. The cord I bought at the local Radio Shack store was like this, but with 1/8" stereo plug (actually called "1/8 INCH mini-plug") on both ends instead of a 1/8" stereo plug on one end and a 1/4" stereo plug on the other end:

6-Ft. Shielded Cable, 1/8" Plug to 1/4" Stereo Plug

Indeed, you need to determine whether your music source uses a 1/4" or 1/8" plug. Also be aware of mono vs. stereo plugs; they look different. The connector on your computer, like mine, is probably 1/8"; I BELIEVE that's standard.
Thanks!!!
