Solve : EXE to open multiple files? |
|
Answer» I have a folder that contains three files. I would like to CREATE a .exe that will open all three files at once when it is opened. Can anyone help me with this? Thanks! Write the application so that it scans the folder and gets the three filenames, then opens each file. The code you write will depend on which programming LANGUAGE you are using. Since you have not seen FIT to tell us that , nor what the files are, or what the exe will do with them, it will be hard to GIVE MUCH more help than that. |

Solve : Chinese student makes imitation ipad for girlfriend for $126 (USD)? |
|
Answer» http://www.odditycentral.com/news/chinese-art-student-builds-home-made-ipad-for-his-girlfriend.html Saw this on yahoo news earlier. What gets me is that at $126 (USD) I am just about determined that he must be running an illegal copy of Windows 7. Sure I could see the guts itself maybe squeezing into $126, especially if using used parts etc as they stated, but the Windows 7 OS alone is almost $100 unless China gets quite a price BREAK on Windows 7. Found it funny that they are claiming it to be an ipad, when its really a custom Windows 7 tablet but with an Apple imitation look. If he didn't stud the border with faux diamonds, it would actually look quite professional. It is rather thick, though. Another Chinese geek did undergo this PROJECT before and succeed: http://www.geek.com/articles/gadgets/chinese-hacker-builds-his-own-ipad-3-running-windows-xp-20110711/ LOL i'm actually thinking of building a real iPod classic from spare parts online... like... buy an iPod with water damage, buy an iPod with a damaged screen, , PRESTO! WAIT HOLD ON IS THAT THE MOTHERBOARD FROM A NETBOOK I JUST THREW OUT 2 WEEKS AGO!? Quote from: nixie on November 28, 2011, 11:25:08 PM Saw this on yahoo news earlier. How do you know it's running Windows 7? None of the IMAGES show anything that gives it away as MS Windows, and nothing in the text says anything about the OS, either. In FACT, the screenshots make it seem likely it might be running a Linux distro. |

Solve : Windows PowerShell Tip of the Week? |
|
Answer» Want to print nice number formats from the command line? Do that every week for a year and you are on your way to use PowerShell as your command line favorite thing. Powershell is one of my favourite command line things, but if I had had to wait a whole year to get the hang of it I think I would have given up, and rightly too. Solve : Newest Adobe Flash Exploit? |
|
Answer» To early to say, but the following might turn out to be an issue. Newest Adobe Flash 11.1.102.55 and Previous 0 Day ExploitMyself, I ignore all the pop ups that say I need a new flash. I will get it only if I need it. And I will do it myself. Quote from: Geek-9pm on December 09, 2011, 01:59:23 AM Myself, I ignore all the pop ups that say I need a new flash. I will get it only if I need it. And I will do it myself. Do you get those pop ups a lot? What version of flash player do you have? Why don't you like to keep your software up to DATE?I find that Adobe is a royal pain as they almost daily seem to be producing "updates'. Too bad they just wouldn't take the time to get it "right" and then publish.Like Geek i have stopped doing the updates as they arrive and will only do so if i see a deterioration in performance which might be associated with their program.truenorthWhile I prefer maintaining control of updates installed in computers, I disagree with the notion of sticking with old versions of Adobe Flash Player. This exploit affects version 11.1.102.55 and Previous. So, if you continue using an older version after Adobe releases an update with a patch for this vulnerability, then you're still vulnerable. Couldn't agree more Soybean... Quote from: Geek-9pm on December 09, 2011, 01:59:23 AM (Or it is just over reaction and has nothing to do with anything else.)Myself, I ignore all the pop ups that say I need a new flash. I will get it only if I need it. And I will do it myself. I, on the other hand, agree with this, unlike everybody else. Why? First, I think every "vulnerability warning" is a lot of hot air. How many people can say with any certainty that they were affected by a given vulnerability? PARTICULARLY with regards to flash. The best most people can think of is how some person they know had a trojan and that they think it was a vulnerability. Take a look at the list of requirements for your average exploit/vulnerability. In this case, you've got what is pretty much the lowest bar to entry, which basically just requires the accessing of a Flash document (SWF). But think about it. If somebody was "serious" about security, they would either have flash disabled or only have it enabled for sites they trust. And I cannot think of a reason not to at least do the latter. In that case, the only way for a the exploit to work would be if the swf was existent on a trusted domain. And that is the "lowest" barrier to entry. A lot of them require carefully crafted cookies, special network conditions, insane URL strings to be specified, parameters to be passed via a PHP post and other nonsense that ought to push it out of the realm of "dangerous vulnerability" to trivial sidebar. All these "vulnerability" warnings serve to do is line the pockets of AV vendors who thrive off Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt about Viruses, malware, and how it all fits together. Now, with things like Windows, updating is relatively painless. Heck most of it can be done automatically. Personally I have it set to download automatically and then I install when I get a GOOD chance to reboot. But otherwise, it requires very little interaction. updating Adobe Flash is just plain idiotic. First off, I have to use some braindead custom installer hand-crafted by a few specially trained monkeys kept in Adobe's Banana room, which stops working if I happen to have the gall to break any of it's myriad false assumptions. Even before that the trouble begins. In order to download the bloody thing you have to fill out these short forms, and make sure to tell it that "No, you don't want to line Adobe's pockets with ad revenue from Mcaffee for pretending to do a scan and installing software on your machine". If you are lucky, the installer will actually start and install, at which point it will tell you to close half the programs you are running (Firefox, Thunderbird, Internet Explorer, Visual Studio, and a few others in my case). And if you have the luck of a 5-footed rabbit you might actually get through that point without issues, at which point it will steadfastly insist that you reboot. Why? I don't know. This is adobe they have an importance complex, they like to think of Flash as a "critical OS component" for whatever reason. And then when you reboot of course you find that they 'helpfully' installed an "update manager" which is a pointless piece of software that does absolutely nothing useful, since the most it can do is say "you should download a new version" but anybody can write that by just having it say that once every week. Which is part of the problem, repeating this idiotic routine once a month might be tolerable but the fact is that you need to usually go through it once every week if you want to "stay updated" which if you ask me is overrated anyway. for every update they are going to fix some vulnerabilities but no doubt they are going to introduce new ones that nobody knows about anyway. The evil you know about is better than the ones you don't if you ask me. Quote Why don't you like to keep your software up to date? With every new version they document some fixes. But they also add new bugs, new vulnerabilities, expose old vulnerabilities, accidentally introduce configuration errors that allow for exploits, and so on and so forth. The net difference is that there are just as many PROBLEMS, it's just that fewer people know about them. And the fact is that the "bad guys" know about them a lot faster than anybody else. I prefer to know about the vulnerabilities so I can use various other sane methods to prevent them from being "exploited" (as if there are anything but isolated incidents of that HAPPENING these days), rather than assume that the newest version is invincible. BC, A great deal more meat on the bone than this "I find that Adobe is a royal pain as they almost daily seem to be producing "updates'." but then with this ".Like Geek i have stopped doing the updates as they arrive ". Your statement "I, on the other hand, agree with this, unlike everybody else." Would tend to not acknowledge that there are in fact "somebody else" (two at least that we know of). truenorth Quote from: truenorth on December 09, 2011, 05:38:58 PM BC, A great deal more meat on the bone than this "I find that Adobe is a royal pain as they almost daily seem to be producing "updates'." but then with this ".Like Geek i have stopped doing the updates as they arrive ". Solve : What is the difference?? |
|
Answer» what is the difference between computer information science and computer information technology? really is that it can i get a little more clarification on why they are the same? please? They just are. Quote from: bulletfingrz on December 01, 2011, 01:46:48 PM what is the difference between computer information science and computer information technology? There aren't Computer Information Science and Computer Information Technology, as far as I'm aware. There is Computer Science, and Information Technology. The former two however are different. Computer Science is about as much about Computers as Astronomy is about telescopes; it's about STUDYING algorithms, Big O notations of such, and so forth; much of Computer Science revolves around theory and concepts of algorithms and data structures than about computers. Information Technology is BASICALLY just learning how to use a computer to deal with information. From file management, to Photoshop, to 3ds max and even writing small tools. Quote from: bulletfingrz on December 01, 2011, 01:46:48 PM what is the difference between computer information science and computer information technology? At some universities ONE can receive a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science. Usually about 124 semester hours are required for the BS Degree. A bachelor of science degree in Computer Science from MIT would start at a HIGHER salary than a BS degree in Computer Science from other universities. A two year certificate in Computer Information Technology from a junior college will be offered a computer operator job for about 1/4 the the salary that the BS Degree from MIT commands. This should be good...nice information GUYS Quote from: jetbravs on December 08, 2011, 02:19:47 AM nice information guys What? Solve : Permission to download photo from email? |
|
Answer» I send an email w/ photo attached but when the recipient tries to download the photo to a file on his computer a pop-up blocks it and tells him he does not have permission. Where is the problem and how to solve? I have a PC and he has a Mac if that makes any difference. Thanks.Welcome to the CH forums. What e-mail clients are you and the recipient using? Does this occur with only this one recipient or is it affecting all recipients? What file format is the photo in?truenorthI am using Centurylink( latterday Sprint) email service, which is my GENERAL SERVER. Format is jpeg. I send many images to various people but I don't know if they are just saving the emails or acutally filing the images. This particular recipient said the problem occurs when he FILES. I have asked other clients and am awaiting RESPONSE. Thanks. The fact that the recipient can open the photo and NOT transfer the file on that person's computer would i believe tends to indicate that the issue is on the other computer. Some parameter of access on the recipients computer is prohibiting the transfer. I don't think there is anything your software COULD do to create that situation on someone else's computer particularly if they can open the attachment in their e-mail client.truenorth Quote from: truenorth on December 04, 2011, 11:45:17 AM What e-mail clients are you and the recipient using? You did not answer this question. CenturyLink is not an email client, it is an ISP which, like most ISPs, provides email service to its customers. Examples of email clients are Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express, Windows Mail, Windows Live Mail, Thunderbird, etc. These are software programs that are installed on your computer and that are designed specifically for email. If you're not using an email client, then you must be accessing your email via web browser. This method is generally called webmail. However, as truenorth mentioned, the problem is most likely at the recipient's end, either with their computer or their ISP (Internet Service Provider). Can the recipient open and view the photo directly from the email message? Quote I have a PC and he has a Mac if that makes any difference.Oh, I guess a Mac user would not use some of the Microsoft email clients I mentioned but, as far as I know, the use of a PC by the sender and a Mac by the recipient would not cause this problem. Thanks for suggestions. My feeling is that my friend has some sort of pop-up blocker that he needs to disableYes something along those lines such as a security setting.truenorth |

Solve : I just received this notice while trying to log into my GoDaddy.com account? |

Answer» (Click to enlarge the photo) So basically I registered a domain with my PARENTS 2 weeks ago because I wanted to give the idea of writing a blog and then monetizing it a shot. I haven't even set the nameservers/redirection or anything, just set up email with Windows Live. Now this scary, "Show Me Your Papers!"-esque notice pops up. However... why is my account singled out, asking us to give "government ISSUED photo documents such as a DRIVER's license or passport" so we can unlock my account? "Your documentation will be delivered to our Fraud Prevention EXPERTS"? I think I should call customer support.I would...Indeed, that DEFINITELY sounds fishy. |

Answer» I recently had someone that sent me mail from a company told me that they could tell that I had listed it as spam and was being delivered to my spam folder. My question is I use mostly Yahoo mail and would LIKE to know if or how I could tell if my mail was being delivered to someone's spam folder and if so which mail provider would allow me to do this task? I should say it is from a place that sends you surveys to do as it may be that the big places no know more?Nope, I don't believe it. Solve : Intel Charging you $50 to unlock features your processor already has? |
|
Answer» http://www.anandtech.com/show/4621/intel-to-offer-cpu-upgrades-via-software-for-selected-models http://www3.intel.com/cd/channel/reseller/asmo-na/eng/480256.htm https://retailupgrades.intel.com/Page.aspx?Name=Upgrade http://www.cpubenchmark.net/mid_range_cpus.html A Pentium G620 gets a Passmark score of 2462. Intel claims its upgrade boosts performance by a maximum of 23% in some applications. So in best case scenario 2462*123% = 3028.26. http://www.cpubenchmark.net/high_end_cpus.html That gives me the performance of an Athlon II X3 460, which retails for $89.99 and has a score of 3018. A Pentium G620 with upgrade retails for $72.88+50 = $122.88. If you compare apples to apples then there is the i3-550, which has a Passmark score of 3090 and which retails for $129.99. Not good. I am thoroughly disappoint. Granted, these are all theoretical benchmarks, but Intel did use Sysmark 2007 to achieve the benchmark result of a 23% performance boost on the Pentium G622.As a manufacturer and the patent HOLDER i'd say their well within their rights...And MAY I add, as a former stock holder, it sounds like a great business plan. Let's wait and see how this goes over. Meanwhile, lets not talk about it. EDIT: One of those links leads to another where you can see that AMD is the better value on a tight budget. But, I shall not put that link here. That would be off topic. This is hardly new. If you are aware of older processors, you know that the earlier RELEASED chips, such as the 8088, 80286, 80386 and 80486 came in a few different versions. With the 8088 286, you had the 286/8088 CPU, but you could also purchase a 80287 or 8087 chip, which provided FPU capabilities not found on the CPU. the 386 came in 386DX and 386SX versions, each of which had their own FPU of that model. the difference was the SX had a shorter data bus. However, with the 486, you had the 486DX and 486SX. the 486DX had a FPU, but the 486SX didn't, and you had to purchase a 487SX chip to get a FPU. At least, that's what Intel wanted you to think. the 486SX chips were in fact just 486DX chips that had their FPU disabled. One can surmise that because they could fetch more as DX chips, these might have been chips whose FPU's failed QA. However, Intel was DESPERATE to prevent competing chipmakers from getting much of their market, and since many of them were trying to carve a niche in low cost systems they might have gone into it knowing it would be a loss, and TRY to make up for it with the 487SX chips. the 487SX chips were in fact just 486DX chips. when you install a 487SX into a system, it disables the main CPU and does everything; because it is a 486DX. And they cost a *censored* of a lot more than 50 dollars. In fact, the 487SX cost more than a 486DX chip would have cost in the first place, so the person will have paid for the 486SX chip + the system, then they would have to pay nearly the same amount to upgrade to the 487SX. So no this isn't really new. |

It went something like this: Them: OK, I Need you to go into Event Viewer (instructions for opening event viewer, start-Run, etc) Me: I don't have a start menu. is it like this thing here? 'Program Manager'? It has a File->Run Menu Them: Yes, try that Me: It says fdisk wasn't found Them: Did you type eventvwr? Me: No I typed fdisk. Them: I said to type E, V,E,N,T,V,W,R Me: I know but I like F,D,I,S,K better. Different strokes. Them: Well if you don't get rid of this malicious malware your computer will be slow Me: Is that bad? Them: err... Yes Me: OK, so what do I do in fdisk? Them:I need you to run eventvwr Me: Should I run it from a bash prompt? and so on. I didn't actually meet my goal of having them hang up on me. I ended up getting bored. They were persistent though. I thought surely the references to different operating systems would phase them. Solve : TOMCAT Port 443? |
|
Answer» I have tomcat installed as a non-root user on IBM AIX [not Linux]. I want to use SSL Port 443, and not the default of 8443. Apache Tomcat (or Jakarta Tomcat or simply Tomcat) is an open source servlet container developed by the Apache Software Foundation (ASF). Tomcat implements the Java Servlet and the JavaServer Pages (JSP) specifications from Oracle Corporation, and provides a "pure Java" HTTP web server environment for Java code to run. You MAY do better by going to a forum that deals with the topic. ApacheTomcat5 - Community Ubuntu DocumentationIts been a while SINCE I played with apache tomcat, but I thought you could alter the httpd.conf file to change port number to whatever you want it to be. But havent played with IBM AIX to be able to help further. Also you state that you are a non-root user, guessing you can runas aka sudo admin to make the change since you are the admin of the network? You will need higher level privileges probably to make this change to the config file unless you have been given privileges to read/write to this config file.I got the ANSWER from TOMCAT subscriber list, it seems that if not Linux, one must recompile from source specifying the port 443. Not a great way to do things, but since it's not mandatory, will leave it as default 8443. |

Solve : OS Help? |
|
Answer» I am wanting to creat my very own OS. I have Visual Studio 2008 installed. I was wondering where to start and how I would go about it. I have been told that there are some OS that I can download (like Linux or something like that) and use them and add on to it and change it. So I was wondering where do I start, and if anyone has a link to an OS that I can downlaod and build on from (Like Linux) I have Visual Studio 2008 Don't make an OS with VS. I got into OS dev awhile back and made my own DOS type OS with a few commands. It's much harder to do than you think, but it is very rewarding because even the most talented programmers are not capable of doing it because of the TIME it takes. It's sort of like saying, "Hey I am going to make my own full length animated movie". You really need to be persistent. If you just want to make an OS like DOS that's much more practical. There is a site and forum dedicated to OS dev, it's osdev.org and the forum is http://forum.osdev.org/. But if you just jump right in and start posting on their forums right away without learning assembly language first, they often delete your posts. So, first step in the process would be to learn assembly language. You can just google for tutorials. After you feel you know the basics of assembly, then you can post on that site for help. After you learn assembly, what you need to start is a good assembler (it's what takes your code and converts it into binary to be read by the machine). The best assembler for OS dev is FASM flatassembler.net I also have a pack of a ton of sample code OSes (it includes FASM and a BUNCH of other stuff). It's not very organized, but if your serious, you'll firgure it out. Here is the link to it: http://dosaidsoft.com/dump/asm.zip Quote from: NIXIE on November 12, 2011, 07:33:50 PM especially the newer after 6.0 line that requires dot.net framework etc. Since my language of choice is C++Applications created with Visual Studio 2003, 2005, and 2008 don't require the .NET framework... More to the point, in order to create a new Operating System, one would need to Learn Assembly. And be rather good at it, ideally.I have downloaded KNOPPIX_V6...How do I 'edit' it?? |

Solve : The 10 Worst PCs of All Time.? |
Answer» http://www.pcworld.com/article/129857/the_10_worst_pcs_of_all_time.html
QuoteThe 10 Worst PCs of All TimeA Packard Bell. No surprise.Ha! Packard Bell being at the top of that list makes me chuckle a bit because I owned two of them. One was a 486 CPU machine, originally running Window 3.1, and the other was a Pentium running Windows 95. Even FUNNIER is the fact that Pentium I owned was the Legend 406CD model mentioned in the article. I used the Legend 406CD for a long time, about 7 years as I RECALL. During that time, I upgraded the CPU by installing an "overdrive processor" to raise processor speed from 75MHz to 200MHz. And, I upgraded the hard drive two times and increased RAM from the original 8MB to 128MB (the maximum it would handle). I also upgraded the OS to Windows 98SE. Actually, Packard Bell was a strong seller in the consumer market in the U.S. before it started its rapid decline. My impression was that they LET quality and customer support decline and that was their demise in the market here. |

Solve : Nuke BATCH. Goto PowerShell? |
|
Answer» Some newcomers are being told to learn DOS catch programming. Who is doing this? Certainly not Microsoft. One tool in particular is being maintained by Microsoft is PowerShell. New and Intermediate programmers who have some skills should learn to speak a bit of PowerShell. Updated: August 18, 2010Quote Scripting with Windows PowerShellTo be honest, I've never really liked powershell. It's powerful, but in many ways it just feels like a "Bashified" .NET framework. If I NEED to script something, I usually use VBScript or JScript using the built-in interpreter; for example, in order to create a proper Console application in VB6, one needs to use the command line LINK.EXE tool to edit the executable so that it is a console program. I made this into a Script because there was some processing that I didn't want to learn how/remember how to do in Batch. More recently, now that I'm used to C# and .NET, I've found, interestingly enough, C# itself to be a useful scripting language. I MERELY needed to create a short wrapper application that used the framework to compile the script given on the command line using an appropriate provider (a more recent change was that it now compiles .vb files as VB.NET code). it "cheats" by building a basic class and main method around the "script" code, DEPENDING on the language. If all goes well, it merely uses reflection to acquire a reference to the main() routine and runs it using the rest of the passed arguments. Than I just associate an extension to the script "interpreter" and add a item to the system "PathExt" variable and can run C-Sharp scripts by merely typing their base name and passing along the requisite arguments. It sounds more complicated than it is, the core logic is really only a few lines, the rest is idiot-proofing and error checking and ancillary stuff. This isn't an "ideal" solution but TYPICALLY if I'm writing a script it's usually of a throwaway nature or is just a passing whim, and I don't really need to distribute it so the fact that my script wrapper program isn't installed elsewhere isn't an issue. Usually my main concern is what I'm trying to do, and being able to do it in a language I am now quite familiar with makes it that much easier. |

Solve : Old PC. Linux No. Win 7 Yes? |
|
Answer» Myself, I would have said Windows 98 is best. Rejuvenating your 7-year-old PC with Windows, not Linux, can now make technical and fiscal sense.Yes, hes said Windows 7. Read the story.Reading the article with the claim of running Office 97 on Windows 7, my friend is running Windows 7 64-bit with Office 2000 and Office 2000 is unstabile with 7 64-bit. Maybe 32-bit is stabile with the older offices. Most of the time the Office 2000 runs ok, but he gets lots of lock ups and application crash windows with Office 2000 on it where it asks if you would like to send the error report to Microsoft. The claims of Windows 7 running on a 233Mhz with 96mb Ram is just crazy. It must operate as slow as tar if it is true. Guessing some one kiosk'ed it to strip it of the majority of its internals to run bare minimum. Or they are EXTREME RAMDISK'ing I still wont put Windows 7 on anything lesser than a Pentium 4 and 1GB Ram to avoid frustration. 7 can run on lesser power, but I cant stand a computer that crawls after being spoiled by speed!!! Microsoft will only state minimum requirements that it is willing to back support for. If they claimed lesser powerful computers that crawl on it, they would get a ton of complaints. I think the only OS I ever ran on lesser than stated requirements was Windows 95 on a 80386DX25 with 4MB Ram when 8MB was recommended. That was way back in 1996 when I couldnt afford a new computer and was running on mixed guts from whatever I could get for free or cheap. Quote from: nixie on November 14, 2011, 02:39:27 PM Reading the article with the claim of running Office 97 on Windows 7, my friend is running Windows 7 64-bit with Office 2000 and Office 2000 is unstabile with 7 64-bit. Maybe 32-bit is stabile with the older offices. Most of the time the Office 2000 runs ok, but he gets lots of lock ups and application crash windows with Office 2000 on it where it asks if you would like to send the error report to Microsoft. It runs OK for me with win7 x64, or it did when I was using 2000. That said, using Office 97 on win7 would be stupid anyway- why do you need to install a new OS to "rejuvenate" the machine. Use the OS it was designed for. Quote I think the only OS I ever ran on lesser than stated requirements was Windows 95 on a 80386DX25 with 4MB Ram when 8MB was recommended. That was way back in 1996 when I couldnt afford a new computer and was running on mixed guts from whatever I could get for free or cheap.And- that still meets the minimum requirements stated by MS. on to the article itself. Quote Linux has long been the preferred operating system for rejuvenating older PCs for three reasons: It's lighter weight than Windows, it's secure enough to let you sidestep CPU-hogging anti-virus programs, and it's free.1. It's not "lighter than windows" that's retarded. Unless you happen to choose a specially lightweight distribution. Of course using the term "lighter" is weasel wording anyway, because you can't really define what that means. 2. "It's secure enough to let you sidestep CPU hogging AV programs" Sigh. the standard FUD. Linux is NOT AUTOMATICALLY SECURE. the only reason it's SAFE now is because it's not being TARGETED. If it ever becomes popular in the eyes of the public, than you are going to need one of those "CPU hogging AV programs". And you don't 'need' one for windows anyway, that is specious at best. 3. "It's Free" So is whatever OS the system already has on it... Since you've already got it. Quote Windows 7 may shake up that thinking, being the first version of Windows that, judging from widespread reviews from beta testers, runs faster than the prior oneThat doesn't make sense. Windows 7 is not measurably faster than Vista, the reason it is "faster" is because the hardware evolved over the time frame between Vista and 7's release. Second even if it was, it still isn't going to run faster than XP on the hardware XP was designed for. Quote Vista was so bloated that it ran poorly on many PCs.Computers in 2006 were slower than they were in 2009. People seem to easily overlook that. Also, most of Vista's problems came from manufacturers cutting corners. Quote In the past it usually made little economic sense to reinstall Windows on an older PCIt makes perfect sense. Reinstalling the OS it came from shouldn't cost you anything, since you still have the key and all that. Unless you are one of those deviants who get's stuck the first time they have an issue, or gives up when activation fails and you have to phone MS, but instead they buy a new copy and *censored* about "mafiasofts evil DRM". Yes, god forbid you be forced to have real human contact using a phone. Quote Also, Windows 7 continues Microsoft's legendary backward compatibility for applications. For instance, I was able to get my 12-year-old copy of Office 97 running on Windows 7 with no hitches.-_- So what was the net result of upgrading to windows 7 if they are still using software that was outdated at Windows XP's release? Why use Windows 7 at all? I also love the anecdotal and useless information regarding how low you can go. classic. If somebody is really after the "latest and greatest" Operating System and/or Applications software, they are going to have to get better hardware. Anything else is just foolish. Upgrading systems past the OS they were designed for without major upgrades to their components is, for lack of a better word, idiotic. "hey look we can run windows 7 on a 233Mhz Pentium 2 with 256MB of RAM and a 4MB video card" sure. And what about actually running applications? Can you browse the web, use E-mail, etc at a reasonable speed? No. Of course not. And yet the system it was designed f or can do those things at those specs at a reasonable speed, so what exactly did you pay for with an upgrade. That money would be better invested in NEW PCs. And if you have new PCs already, why the *censored* do you want to use the old ones with an old OS. use OSs for that era, don't try to jury-rig some new OS into and old system, because it isn't going to work out as you planned. Quote from: Geek-9pm on November 14, 2011, 11:51:32 AM Myself, I would have said Windows 98 is best. That's just silly. Windows 7 would be sooooo slow on the hardware they're talking about. I can't imagine how frustrating that would be. On the other hand, there are several modern Linux distros that would run quite well on that older hardware. I don't know what the author of that article was smoking... Solve : Flash Download Problems, FireFox? |

Flash Download ProblemsAdobe said: Quote We're working to IMPROVE the workflow, especially during error scenarios, but the download helper is our preferred method of installation.http://forums.adobe.com/message/3947097?tstart=0 Firefox 6.0.2 is not a "new" version. Solve : answering machine connected but disabled? |

Answer» I have arranged my landline phones in PARALLEL with the answering machine so that the answering machine is ALWAYS on and so able to access phone calls. I have put a switch before the phones so I can prevent them from ringing when I do not want to be disturbed. Before I had broadband, this system worked well : I would either answer incoming calls myself, or if the phones were switched off, the answering machine would do it. Since subscribing to broadband, a filter has been added before the answering machines and phones. Now I find that the answering machine no longer takes calls if I have switched off the connection to (just) the phones. It makes no sense to me as the answering machine is NOT switched off, so should take the calls, but it doesn't (when the phones are switched off). I'd like ENLIGHTENMENT about this.More information may help. |
