Solve : SureDelete Made 160 GB Hard Drive Full? |
|
Answer» Try i have no idea im confused I think that SureDelete has written 1's and 0's to all unused sectors and sectors that previously contained files. Most likely to prepare it for resale or termination of important files. I think there is little you can do about this apart from REFORMATTING. Since the data written is not recognized by Windows, I doubt you can remove it using Windows? Correct me if I am wrong, I haven't had much EXPERIENCE 'securely' cleaning my PC as I have little to hide. alright so how do i do that? how do i back up all my stuff and everything?XP hides scandisk... Double-click My computer on the Desktop (or Start, My Computer), select drive, File, Properties, Tools, Check Now..., Select Options, Start. Quote alright so how do i do that? how do i back up all my stuff and everything? Burn the data to CD-ROMs, DVD-ROMS or other writeable/removeable media. |

Solve : Computer boots into "Belkin" Folder!? |
|
Answer» My Laptop PC equipped with a Belkin 54G PC Card OPENS a "Belkin" FOLDER when it starts up! My Laptop PC equipped with a Belkin 54G PC Card opens a "Belkin" folder when it starts up! Did you perhaps place it in the start-up folder?Sorry for the delay in replying GUYS, I haven't checked my webmail this week! The folder is not in the startup folder. It contains a subfolder "Belkin 54Mbps wireless utility" which contains "Driver" & "TOOLS" sub folders. In tools is a driver removal utility. in drivers are PCI & PCMCIA drivers! Its just not supposed to open on Boot but it does! even without the card in place. I put it down to a faulty initial installation, but a re-installation has not cured the problem so I IMAGINE its something amiss in the registry? |

Solve : Hard Drive filling up with nothing?? |
|
Answer» Hi....on one of my computers I am losing hard drive space rapdily. The C: drive is part of a PARTITION and although its formatted size is around 9 GB ....when viewing the drive in explorer and using Properties function for all hidden and viewable files it only comes in at around 5.5 GB. I have no idea where the other 4 GB APRROX. is gone? I assume it's a virus and have used Hijjack This, McAfee and several adware/spyware programs to fully scan drive in safe mode but I can't find anything abnormal to attribute to the 4+BG of spave gone. |

Solve : Cheating Spouse? |
|
Answer» I recently returned from Iraq and discovered that my wife has been cheating with three different men when I looked in her outlook mailbox one afternoon. I am going to file for divorce next week but I want to copy the entire outlook file from the computer without her knowing. How can I quickly get the entire outlook copied? Can I get the deleted emails as WELL?What you are looking down the barrel at is very very personal. I suggest you get professional/legal assistance in order to show that the copied material does indeed come from your wife's mail system and is not just a figment of your imagination. |

Answer» Hi, I RECENTLY just bought a new 80 gig Hard drive and need some help. I installed the drivers and such for the HD and then tryed to boot up the computers from the Windows XP disk I have. Any ideas?See the following article: NTLDR is missingHas this new drive been partitioned and formatted? How'd you install the drivers if you can't boot to the disk? Or if it won't read the XP disk it could be you have a problem there, unlikely though if that's the disk you used to LOAD XP. |

Solve : Power outage: fan runs, nothing else? |
|
Answer» My son and a computer-savvy pal switched a COMPAQ PRESARIO 8000 to a Scorpio case. But in powering up, the only thing that happens is the fans running for a few SECONDS, then shutting down. A test with the old power supply yields the same thing, so it doesn't appear to be the supply itself. Any THOUGHTS?Have your son check all CABLE connections and make certain hardware is properly seated. |

Solve : Laptop that WILL NOT SHUT DOWN... plz help me!!? |
|
Answer» please help me, I have a laptop with Windows XP, and it was working fine a few DAYS ago ut now it will not shut down. When I click on the shut down button, it beeps at me and does nothing. I have searched this problem high and low, and the SOLUTION I come up with is either my Norton Antivirus program or a button I need to click under my power settings. Problem is, I DONT have Norton and because my comp is a laptop, the option under power settings is not there. I tried running shutdown.exe in my scheduled tasks, nothing happened. I have no other ideas and I really need some advice here. if anyone could email me at [email protected] I would APPRECIATE it soo much. Thanks again, Sable K. Quote I DONT have Norton and because my comp is a laptop what makes you think you do not need or can not use Norton on a Laptop? You should shut down all programs before shutting down to see if a program is causing the problems. No, I dont have Norton because I havent had the time to install it... I was going to the other day, but now that I have this problem. I do have ad-Aware though, and another anitvirus program called something Doctor. and a personal firewall. And I did try that, closing all my programs down, it doesnt help. But thanks anyway. Anyone else can help me please?? Do your scanners report anything? The programs which you are using are NOT anti-virus programs, they are anti-Trojan programs. If your COMPUTER is connected to the internet it will be heavily infected without a running anti-virus program. I suggest that you do an on-line scan from Trend Micro's Housecall, Panda or Symantec (I sometimes have to use all three.) Then you should try AVG Free Home Edition anti-virus which is less of a resource hog compared to Norton.what is there to be found at Symantec's without paying? Quote or SymantecSymantec Security Check and a lot of useful info.Where can I find the security check? |

Solve : can a date change cause lost files?? |
|
Answer» Now this is one of those embarrassing mistakes I tend to get myself into and can't get out of, but here goes: The other day I clicked on the time and date icon on the right hand bottom of the page. I wanted to look at a calendar to find out exactly what date it would be, eight weeks from now. The date and time properties came up, I LOOKED at the calendar, found the date I wanted, and must have done SOMETHING to reset my computer to that date! Now, all my letters and files that I save are dated October 10. Here's my question: If I change the date from October 10, back to August WHATEVER, will I lose the files I saved in the two days since this has happened? I mean, since I will "go back in time" will I "virtually" wipe out whatever took place in those couple of days. LIke, if we're back to August, how can my computer "remember" what I did in October? What can I do, Please, to fix the date and not lose any files, thanks.Hey Dr. October, |

Solve : Automatic Delete Filter in Outlook??? |
|
Answer» So this problem has been BUGGING me like crazy! In my Microsoft Outlook, my hotmail account automatically DELETES mail that appears with a certain heading type. This mail is only DELETED from my hotmail inbox, therefore, it is all my non-junkmail. The mail that is deleted appears with a heading carrying the icon of a piece of paper with the top right CORNER folded down. It is located in the column under "Header Status." The button MARKING this column looks like an envelope with an arrow by its bottom right corner pointing down. It seems like outlook automatically deletes this mail once it is in my inbox. When I take it out of my deleted folder and put it back into the inbox, it deletes it again! I could really use some advice. |

Answer» N_O: I do have the product key number as I used windows xp cd BUT it was already installed on another. Would that make it illegal and if I don't activate windows what will happen after the 30 days is up? Unless Microsoft knows (IE: You activated via the phone or Internet), you can safely use it again. Just do not use it on more than one computer with Internet access or the chances that it will become blocked increase. W2k RULES! "FED" what do you mean by this w2k wins Thanks Raptor but still I keep getting "you have so many days to activate ETC. So what happens when the 30 days are up? Just keep it off line? Solve : Computer randomly resets.? |
|
Answer» I am trying to resolve a client his PC problem. When the mouse is moved, the computer restarts.
It concerns a:
I can give more information if required. Does anyone have any suggestions apart from reformatting? This is not an option. What I noticed is that the PC seems to reset when I move the mouse after a brief amount of time if the PC is not kept busy. S.M.A.R.T tells the HDD status is O.K.How long has this problem been going on? Have you scanned for other types of malware with up-to-date scanners? USB or serial mouse? mouse drivers up-to-date? Quote
1. 14 days ago it first started. But according to the user, no serious changes apart from removing and receiving E-mail have taken place. 2. No. I intend on doing that once I can free up a cable here 3. Serial. 4. Standard Windows ME drivers, me thinks. What has recently taken place is that there was another printer connected. (+/- 3 months ago) The POWERGRID was allready overloaded with devices, I now connected it to a power grid with basically no load but the computer itself and it continues to function properly. It has not reset yet. I think this is a power problem.Try to check for virus again: Remove all devices except the hard drive and video card. in the bios, disable power management/atapi. as soon as you can get it into safe mode, start running virus scans. also start disabling various xp services. P.S. It always happens after 5 min break?Raptor: is there any way to connect a USB mouse? let us know how the malware scans turn out, okay? The computer has been connected and has not reset it SELF for over an hour even with all devices connected. My client had a lot of devices connected to only two wall sockets. It seems to function very well here. Virus scanner installed is Norton 2003 and has the latest updates according to my client. I scanned and nothing was found. The problem seems DIY hardware related. Then tell your client to use more outlets!!! Will do. First I have to make certain that that truly is the problem and that the computer remains stable.Device manager reports!msifo32 reports..........some winme system i dont have s.m.a.r.t on mine....... |

Solve : Deleting a download? |
|
Answer» Hello all, I downloaded a program "Disk Investigator" to see about undeleting PREVIOUS deleted files. Needless to say, the program was a bit beyond my computer comprehension so I therefore decided to delete the program. I then WENT to control panel...add/delete....and deleted it there. I also went to c\program files and tried to delete the file there but an error message read.....Cannot delete di.exe...Access is denied...The source file may be in use.....I went to Task Manager to see if it was running there and it wasn't. I also checked processes and found di.exe and considered, end process, but a warning message read.....can cause UNDESIRED results including loss of data and system instability. The process will not be given the chance to save its state or data before it is terminated......my question is....How can I delete this di.exe and was the warning in task manager a "DO NOT ATTEMPT" ENDEAVOR? Thanks for any help or explaination!Try removing it from safe mode.Raptor.....situation resolved....Thanks! A procedural question.....When a query is resolves, is it automatically deleted from the "forum slate", or am I responsible? It will stay on the forum for many a generation to see. Don't worry. |

Solve : Media player 10? |

If I rollback to mp8 they all play perfectly but when I download 10 they go so slow, not all of them but just the odd one. I had it and when ever i played on the zone with Teamspeak running evry ones pings were on the RED! I remove it and my pc is going faster. Its not really worth it, if you have a firewall you dont need it. (just how i feel) RossAnd just as I thought the human race was one step closer to salvation..I distinctly remember SOMEONE saying, I'll teach you to play games with me! Might have been God I suppose.Maningen.... "it started going slowmo on me about 2 weeks back " Have you looked in your event viewer to see if anything shows up about 2 weeks ago ...when this issue started ......? If that was when you installed SP2 ...then something may be wrong with that install.......however if you have had SP2 installed prior to your issue .....I would seriously doubt that SP2 is creating the problem. When a pc is working just fine and then out of the blue it slows down dramatically .........The odds are it's a virus ,trojan or some form of malicous spyware . I would consider going on line and doing a online scan with possibly Symantec or McAfee .....this would at least add creedance to what your AV found . You should give Ewido Security Suite a try ..... http://www.download.com/Ewido-Security-Suite/3000-8022_4-10326287.html ...... it's free to try ......and it may point to the cause .......... You might also try Spybot a try as well ...http://www.download.com/Spybot-Search-Destroy/3000-8022_4-10122137.html I would suggest you run these scans from the Safe Mode as opposed to the Normal mode to acheive the best results ...... Let us know how you make out ....... dl65 |

Can you enter the BIOS? Will the keyboard work there? Quote Have you downloaded files or programs and installed or used these before turning off the computer? The keyboard only works when I can hit DEL and it goes into some blue and red screen. Quote
That would be the BIOS. So we have eliminated mechnical faults. Try rapidly pressing F8 before Windows XP loads and choose last known good configuration if it lets you. If not, you may need to perform a repair installation with your Windows XP CD-ROM. Installing and Using RECOVERY Console Perform a Repair Installation How to perform an in-place upgrade (reinstallation) of Windows XP Quote
I'll try it... I TRIED the F8 and it didn't work. |

Quote my internet LAN has media restrictions i.e i cant download songs & all . can anyone help me with this prob . i mean is there any way ? What type of network do you have? What do you mean by restrictions?its a cable internet network . the restriction is tht cant download or play any media & also cant dl anything more than 10 MB. Quote its a cable internet network . the restriction is tht cant download or play any media & also cant dl anything more than 10 mb. And this is due to your computer or due to the Internet Service Provider? That is the Internet Service Provider imposing restrictions as there are too many people now using the internet. Remember, ORIGINALLY, the Internet was intended for Military use only. No use if you want to D/L SOMETHING like KNOPPIX. Let us HOPE that more and more ISPs block all PORNOGRAPHY too. |
