Solve : Please write me a batch file? |
Answer» What do people think about posters who ask "how do I do xyz in a BATCH file?", and you tell them, (i.e. summarize the steps) and they go "Uh?" and make it clear they REALLY meant, "Please write me a batch file that does xyz?". I have a problem with doing people's homework or paid work for them. Am I being unecessarily unhelpful? |

Solve : Free Laptop??? Scam or Truth? |
Answer» I was watching a commerical about getting a free laptop if you supposely tried or bought some products from getmyfreelaptop.com? Is it real or one of those things to get you to buy stuff?Scam. Scam. I had some what of a feeling about that being true. You never know? Sometimes your guy in front of your school who finds twenty dollars other times....There may be some truth in it -- now, let me finish -- I've messed around with some links where there's a "free" item at the end of the line, but you have to buy / subscribe to a certain amount of products or services to be eligable. I never ever completed a sequence to find out if I'd actually get the free GUITAR or whatever... Site Advisor Review How long can a company exist giving away all of it's merchandise?from what i have seen most "free" products end up benefiting the company, not you. for example, Telus (a LARGE telephone company where i live) every so often offers a free product (computers, laptops, xbox's, etc.) with a NEW subscription to their internet service. well i read the fine print in one of their ads for a free xbox and found something out... 1. you pay $40 a month for internet. $20 goes towards the actual internet bill, while the other $20 goes towards paying off the product. 2. if you decide to cancel your subscription at any time, you are still required to pay for the rest of the "free" product. 3. if you do the math, the product that you get for "free" costs more then it does if you were to get it at a store. to sum it up, telus gives you financing for a product, nothing more. |

Solve : Ok I have I major internet problem...? |
Answer» I start watching video's on youtube, tv links, and my personal favorite crunchy roll. I USUALLY go there and watch anime's, but no matter what I watch or where, after a short while the fun stops. When I first start the video loads FAST and is good to go, but after a short while it gets to where it takes FOREVER or will not load at all. I have tried spyware and adware scanners, and anti-viruses, even deleting cookies and clearing my cache and temp. internet files. NOTHING seems to work, I have only found one real solution, reset. To do a COMPLETE restore of the hard rives. THEN it seems to go back to normal before starting again in a short period of time. I try not to use a AV at all less I absolutely need it. I only have the windows thing at start up and my AV only scans when I click scan. How do you determine when you need an anti-virus program ? ? This sounds like it may be one of those times... |

Solve : Change of link color? |
Answer» Quote from: CBMatt on July 18, 2007, 09:03:09 PM Quote from: Zylstra on July 18, 2007, 08:35:48 PMIt sure can!Perhaps another template, of the original without the updated colors, could be added so that we could disable the neon blue from the profile menuYeah, I like that IDEA. But can it even be done? Go into your profile, click Looks and Layout, and at the top, click the "Change Template" link. You can make the forums look different from the default. It might be possible to change only the color of the links made in posts, and set the links of the Forum System color back to the original. (That would take some research and using the SMF support site) Quote from: Zylstra on July 18, 2007, 09:25:35 PM Quote from: CBMatt on July 18, 2007, 09:03:09 PMQuote from: Zylstra on July 18, 2007, 08:35:48 PMIt sure can!Perhaps another template, of the original without the updated colors, could be added so that we could disable the neon blue from the profile menuYeah, I like that idea. But can it even be done? Of couse, SILLY me! It's been so long SINCE the last time I visited my profile options that I had completely forgotten about that feature.I'm sure it could be done, yes. Might take a fair amount of work though. On the issue of the new colour, I THINK it's pretty much OK. Maybe a little bright, but then again it does make the forums look more cheery. I can see how some would consider it too bright and perhaps garish though. Solve : How do i change my font in my sig, for any forums?? |
Answer» I want to change my font in my sig for the xbox.com forums, but i don't know how, and I searched all over this site, and couldn't find out. Help would really be appretiated! In what way would you like to change it? Did you want to change the color? Here - Complete Hex Code ListThanks a lot, but I want to change the font, and the font size as well...Oh. Well then.... Text Size As long as the forum supports BBCode (most do), this should work: Code: [Select][size=25pt]LARGE[/size] [size=5pt]small[/size] [size=10pt]AvErAgE[/size] Note that the above dont work because they're in a code block. Font Type Tahoma! Again, use the below BBCode: Code: [Select][font=Tahoma]Tahoma[/font] [font=VERDANA]Verdana (our NORMAL font)[/font]And so on. But note that not all fonts work; there should be a list out there on the internet if you look hard enough. So there you go. Anything else you wanted? |

Solve : Yahoo Email Deletion? |
Answer» Hello. I SEND and receive email via Yahoo. I realize that when I delete my emails, they still exist on my computer somewhere, hiding in the shadows. Is there a way to get rid of them entirely? I know that years ago when I used AOL for my email there was a separate folder that I could GO into to get rid of DELETED emails. I only discovered it when it got too full and popped up a warning along with all of my deleted emails! So much for privacy! Does Yahoo have something like that, too or is it an entirely different thing since it is not actual software installed on my computer like AOL was? |

Solve : How to make a forum? |
Answer» This isn't a tutorial... i was wondering how i'd go about creating my own forum... This isn't a tutorial... i was wondering how i'd go about creating my own forum... Scroll to the bottom of this page. See where it says, "Powered by SMF 1.1.2" ? Click that. it was so simple... it was.. so... simple... i think i need some coffee.. i'd hug you, but i wouldn't. *thumbs up* thanks Quote from: reaper_tbs on July 15, 2007, 05:37:32 PM it was so simple... it was.. so... simple... i think i need some coffee.. You're welcome. While it may be true that finding the link was simple - I suspect that most everything else to do with this project will not be simple. Let's hope I'm wrong. EITHER way, best of luck with it. If NOTHING else, you might learn some interesting things. Note: There are other packages out there too. Free and commercial. You can Google for them, or.... visit some other forums, and look down at the bottom for links. i see i haven't gotten over the first bump yet.. i have no idea how to install the software, and have no experience regarding anything to do with PHP's >.< thanks anyway i think i'll err. check out the packages when i sorta.. know how to install the basic software lol reaper_tbs, are you using a commercial, i.e. not free, web hosting service for the website on which you want to put a forum? If so, take a look at the control panel, sometimes called cPanel, for your website. Your hosting service should have sent you some info about logging onto a cPanel when you created your account with them. If not, visit their website and review the features associated with your account. Many hosting services have their own support forum, which can be very helpful. If you have a cPanel, find out exactly what features/options are available there. Many hosting services provide forum software as part of the hosting package and you can easily install it from the cPanel; actually, the cPanel would lead you to another screen where you can simply click on a button to install a forum. This may not be an SMF forum; it may be phpBB or something else but it's going to be, by far, the easiest way to install a forum. www.mbhosting.com is a free service offering cPanel, provided by Flame, one of our members Installing a forum sounds really hard, but trust me, it's easy. I did it with no prior experience of any sort of web hosting, so I'm sure you'll manage it. The method soybean mentioned sure is an easy one, but if you want to choose your own forum then first download it, then read the readme file. When I installed SMF, the readme file was all I needed, it really did help. Remember, first you will need web hosting, which you can either pay for or get free, from places like mbhosting as suggested above, or 110mb. There is always a catch to free hosting though, so be careful to read the fine print and make sure you're getting what you want.thanks so much for the help guys. i figured i'd try 110Mb first, as i've seen the DBGaming site and rather like it.. i still haven't got a confirmation of registration email from 110Mb yet though >.< but thanks so much hey, i've wanted to do this for a long time, and now that my computer finally has the upgrades and capabilities to do basically anything i want, i can do things like this as a side project, and maintain the responsibility of upkeep. i will probably be posting back occasionally with questions =) once again, thanks to all of youThanks for the compliment on my site, soon it will be completely different. Good luck with 110mb, you won't have the same issues as I've had because you'll be on a different server. Box 9, the one I'm on, had so many problems, but the rest were fine. Good luck with your site and forum, let us know how it goes.thanks man will do.Might also mention: Forum systems, and other web apps are now offering Web install features, where they have a tool on their site that privately and securely access your website, and copies and installed ALL the files for you, and you don't have to mess around with any of the nonsense associated with MySQL. Check into the web application you want to install and see if they offer this. SMF does this. 110mb.com does have a program similar to cPanel, that does have applications. 110mb has the options to install SMF-Forum, MyBB-Forum, or phpBB2-Forum. Which one is best?Quote from: Comp GUY on July 22, 2007, 04:39:13 PM 110mb has the options to install SMF-Forum, MyBB-Forum, or phpBB2-Forum. Which one is best?Danger Will Robinson! Solve : is there a way to have the CH site as a real time one?? |

Solve : No new email notification - off the wall? |
Answer» This is really out there, but does anyone know of a way that outlook express can be made to notify when no new email arrives? I mean, it checks, there is no new email and then it notifies you that no new mail arrived. It's crazy I know, but in a world full of so many miraculous things there must be a way. Open Outlook Express...Click Send/Receive...look in the lower right hand corner while it is doing this...if no new email...it'll tell you no new messages. Just schedule a .wav file to play once a minute... And make it SOUND like the Outlook Express new mail notification...that'll drive him/her nuts! This question seems odd. Since OE provides an audible signal when new mail is received, then silence indicates no new mail has been received. So, why do you want an audible signal for No new email notification? If you have your email app set up to check the server once a minute, and you haven't heard anything for 5 minutes, you know that you haven't any mail. Diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks... Maybe your idea of "too analytical and going nuts" is my idea of "IDLY musing". It is amusing... Your post about the dog that didn't bark in the night and patio's about playing a .wav file every minute...amusing. I just look at some of the other posts and it just strikes me as funny that some of us will try to see what we can do about getting this to work...myself included. All the guy wanted to do was prank a coworker and I'm sure we can and have come up with several ways to do that. When I initially saw this thread...as you can see...I found it hilarious. Thanks to everyone. I'm glad I could lighten the mood for some of you. Special thanks to Zylstra for the link to Clippy. Solve : What are three things that you would try to get my USB jump drive to work?? |
Answer» I am working on installing a USB jump drive on my computer. When I plug it into the USB port, the computer stops me and says that it cannot finish the INSTALL without drivers. I am running Windows 98 SP2 on my computer.Well there is no Windows 98 SP2, so it is something ELSE. If it is Windows 98 SE, then the manufacturer MAY have drivers for the device on their web site. 2000 and XP should not NEED drivers. As we don't know the brand name of the drive or the operating system, it's your turn.Quote from: tracyr on May 16, 2007, 11:29:23 PM the computer stops me and says that it cannot finish the install without drivers. My suggestion? Get the drivers. Crazy idea, I know, but it just might help.1. RTFM 2. Install drivers 3. Connect device1. RTFM 2. STFW 3. RTFAQ And a bonus; 4. Stop wasting our time. So now we do other people's homework FELLAS?Quote from: Raptor on May 17, 2007, 01:52:24 PM 1. RTFM |

Solve : ipod to ipod transfer? |
Answer» i need a software to transfer songs from 1 i pod to another with only 1 i pod cableIf you mean from ONE iPod to another directly, as in no computer INVOLVED, I don't think that's POSSIBLE. One, there is no such cable that I know of that would connect to two iPods at the same time. Two, if both were connected, how would you transfer songs from one to the other. The iPod firmware doesn't have a transfer option. I own an iPod video and I don't see how that would be possible.Quote from: varundatta on JUNE 08, 2007, 04:04:46 AM i need a software to transfer songs from 1 i pod to another with only 1 i pod cableI think he means VIA computervia computerWell couldn't you then just use iTunes or Winamp? |

Solve : CH Profile Signatures? |
Answer» I have a question about using signatures in your profile, posts and threads. Does that mean you blocked mine? Yep! I block all images in sigs, and some avatars.Quote from: The Saviour on June 04, 2007, 10:02:19 AM Calum...Hopefully it's something simple to sort, I really don't see what's up with that. Good to see the CH LOGO back on your site for a number of reasons. Quote from: 2k_dummy on June 04, 2007, 10:16:29 AM QuoteThat makes me sad.Does that mean you blocked mine? All that time and effort for some fool to block it . . . only joking, it took about 5 minutes and everyone has a right to choose what they look at.I just tried posting the picture in my signature, but it's not showing up for me. And Calum, yours isn't showing for me either (it showed up fine a minute AGO). Perhaps there's just some sort of fluke. Is my normal sig showing now? Because I removed the Saviour PC one. |

Solve : Student broke the PC ! (?)? |
Answer» Hi I have a problem with one of the PC in our classroom Can you tell us the make of the motherboard? I have no idea! How do I find out? Quote Does the school have a Windows CD for it? Hard to tell whether this is a software, i.e. Windows, or hardware problem. It is 7 years old and, considering the environment in which they're used, what does the school expect from these computers? As much as they expect from us underpaid teachers, I'm afraid! I am assuming that the power supply is the part where the cable goes into; I've got several PCs of the same make, can I just unhook one of those and expect getting it back together once I'm done? Should I be worried about starting a fire? And no, we do not seem to have any Windows CDs whatsoever, I guess we 'borrowed' it from the volunteers.. Quote Are you saying,it is power dead?I mean nothing,or it Sorry, I don't even know what safe mode is but at the moment, the PC isn't doing anything. When I turn it on I do get a long beep and then it just SHUTS down See Beginners Guides: Computer Error Beep Codes. What is your assessment? Another reference: "1 Long Beep: Memory problem". If the school has other computers of the same model, you could test the memory by either pulling the memory from a known-working computer and installing it in this computer (remove the memory currently in this computer first). Or, take the memory from this computer and test it in another computer. If you have not previously installed memory, here's a reference: http://www.ehow.com/how_895_install-ram.htmlHave you tried another keyboard? |

Solve : License Agreement Question? |
Answer» I'm curious about whether or not there is a general "rule of thumb" concerning License Agreements that are posted at the BEGINNING of every software installation. Are these agreements basically overlooked, or is it a nessecity that they be read? i'd read them, since if it has malware, it SHOULD say it in its EULA, and it has selling ect info, so yeah you should read it And what exactly does this mean? I don't THINK I've ever read "and if you accept this EULA you will be getting malware".Oh, malware distributors are actually very courteous these days. They always warn you before infecting your system. And if you fill out a three-minute survey, they even tell you how to disinfect!no, it does'nt say "Installing this will give you malware", but it does, generally say what it installs, if it installs other stuff, like myfunweb cards (or whatever it's called) says in its EULA, that it installs CursorMania, (along with alot of other stuff) and if your FAMILIAR with it (CursorMania) you'll know not to install itQuote from: GX1_Man on May 21, 2007, 07:48:35 PM Quote from: helper on May 21, 2007, 06:04:22 PMi'd read them, since if it has malware, it SHOULD say it in its EULA, and it has selling ect info, so yeah you should read it Don't patronize him, he is correct. If software contains THIRD PARTY add-ons it NEEDS to be mentioned. It tells you the name and the 'service' being offered. It's just very difficult to understand .. |

Solve : picture in word 2000? |
Answer» I am trying to insert a picture from a web address to MS word. But i don't see any option for this, there. in word 2000, from insert menu ---> picture I see,the following options clipart from file wordart autoshapes chart from scanner or camera What i want is to directly insert a picture from a web address. Is it possible? Another thing i can do is to download the picture to my PC and then add. But then again when i use the word page as a web page i have to actually give the web address of the picture. That means i have to search the location of the picture in the HTML code, making things a bit difficult. Will standard Copy & Paste not work? Not sure, I don't use Word too OFTEN and when I do, I don't put images in... Someone else MAY be slightly more useful than me with this one Quote from: shouvik on May 22, 2007, 05:22:31 AM Another thing i can do is to download the picture to my PC and then add. But then again when i use the word page as a web page i have to actually give the web address of the picture. That means i have to search the location of the picture in the HTML code, making things a bit difficult. Are you using Word to CREATE web pages? It's not a very good tool for web page creation; from what I've seen, it puts a lot of extra coding in the HTML file. If you have no HTML editor [I'm excluding Word here], you might try a freeware program called Nvu. By the way, I am not ABLE to duplicate the image copy problem with Word 2003. I just placed a photo into Word from a web source via copy and paste. The photo came from >here<. But, even if you can resolve that issue, you still need the URL for the photo if you're creating web pages. Right? Another reason to try Nvu. You should be able to right-click the image on the web page, select copy image, and then in your word document paste it. I TESTED this with Word 2000 here and had no issues with .GIF and .JPEG images.I just tried the copy and paste with Word 97, running under Win 98SE, and it also worked.Yes, I use Word to create Webpage. The problem is Not about inserting the picture in word. It is about showing the picture in the webpage, which will not show, unless given the proper web address. I will look at NVU and see if it resolves this issue. Thanks for the help. Use Photobucket... |
