Solve : No new email notification - off the wall?

Answer»

This is really out there, but does anyone know of a way that outlook express can be made to notify when no new email arrives? I mean, it checks, there is no new email and then it notifies you that no new mail arrived. It's crazy I know, but in a world full of so many miraculous things there must be a way. Open Outlook Express...Click Send/Receive...look in the lower right hand corner while it is doing this...if no new email...it'll tell you no new messages.

I have to be serious, though. When I read this I almost fell out of my chair. I know that doesn't help you, but you did admit..."This is really out there".Okay, but can we get it to make an audio notification? We're looking to really bug a co-worker!A)I have found that Co-Workers dont LIKE to be bugged....

B)OutlookExpress only has sounds AVAILABLE when you receive an email... not when you dont receive one

And make it SOUND like the Outlook Express new mail notification...that'll drive him/her nuts! This question seems odd. Since OE provides an audible signal when new mail is received, then silence indicates no new mail has been received. So, why do you want an audible signal for No new email notification? The dog that didn't bark in the night...

(In the short story "Silver Blaze," Sherlock Holmes solves the mystery of a stolen racehorse by observing that the stable's guard dog didn't bark)

A lot of people who post on here seem a bit weak in the logic department. Whether this is due to lack of practice due to youth, or some KIND of inherent condition, I am not sure. If you have your email app set up to check the server once a minute, and you haven't heard anything for 5 minutes, you know that you haven't any mail.

Diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks... Maybe your idea of "too analytical and going nuts" is my idea of "IDLY musing".
It is amusing...

Your post about the dog that didn't bark in the night and patio's about playing a .wav file every minute...amusing.

I just look at some of the other posts and it just strikes me as funny that some of us will try to see what we can do about getting this to work...myself included.

All the guy wanted to do was prank a coworker and I'm sure we can and have come up with several ways to do that.

When I initially saw this thread...as you can see...I found it hilarious. Thanks to everyone. I'm glad I could lighten the mood for some of you. Special thanks to Zylstra for the link to Clippy. We're likin' it.
