Solve : Ripping Music to 360?

Answer»

Hey guys,
Ima trying to rip some tunes to my 360. But whenever i try to rip them all they are all tagged as 'Unknown Artist'. That is when I make an Audio Disk, but when I make an MP3 Disk the tags showed, but it wont let me rip them. Any ideas?
Thanks

Chrisit always does, i think ill LOOK into when i get home on my 360Have you tried editing the ID3 tags with dbPowerAmp or something SIMILAR?

I'm guessing you would rather have it do it automatically when you rip the audio though... but thats all I have on the topic...
Yea, i want them to be done automatically. Thanks anyway

ChrisMost regular Audio CD's do not contain artist information or song titles, so that they are compatible with a regular CD player.
Some do, however, and some can even have a hidden file or TWO installed.

But, nevertheless, it seems that you need an internet connection to retrieve such information.

Solve : colored spots on moniter?

Answer»
My moniter suddenly has 2 weird discolored 'spots' on the bottem right of screen. It reminds me of when I had a tv set once that needed to be demagnitized. Do 'they' do that for moniters? Is my moniter about to go out? I just GOT new speakers about 3 weeks ago...but they are for a computer, so why would they do that?? ANy info is helpful, thankyou

--Topic locked and marked as resolved in result of being answered -Zylstra how old is the monitor?? If the speakers are not properly shielded they can do that. Move them away from the monitor. Most CRT monitors have a degauss function. After moving the speakers, try degaussing the monitor. whee!!! it WORKED like a CHARM!! I just love LEARNING new things. Thanks a bunch. You're very welcome. Ya'll come now, ya hear. more info....

Alternative methods
Monitors without a degauss function can be degaussed by placing a degauss-enabled monitor face-to-face with the target monitor. Activating the degauss function on the enabled monitor can help degauss the other. Alternatively, one can affix two oppositely poled magnets to either side of a drill BIT, attach it to a drill, and then hold the spinning drill to the target monitor[citation needed].

Degaussing can also help reduce the distortion due to static electricity that often results from long term usage of the monitor, especially in older monitors

This is NOT a recommended method unless you know exactly what you are doing. Failure to do it properly can result in permanent damage. The [citation needed] means someone posted this without proper explanation.

Solve : Google error?

Answer»

Anyone else get errors similar to the below message from Google recently?

Quote

We're sorry...

... but your query looks similar to automated requests from a COMPUTER virus or spyware application. To protect our users, we can't process your request right now.

We'll restore your access as quickly as possible, so try again soon. In the meantime, if you suspect that your computer or network has been infected, you might want to run a virus checker or spyware remover to make sure that your systems are free of viruses and other spurious software.

We apologize for the inconvenience, and hope we'll see you again on Google.

I can duplicate the error by visiting any high number of RESULTS page. For example this link. I wonder if Google sees you visiting multiple PAGES that have dozens of results it automatically assumes you're a bot.

Hmm... I'v not had any problems like that, might be a new thing they've implemented? One of the new google implementations is filtering out questionable/bad SITES that are known to contain malware/phishing schemes etc.

I'll see if i can dig out the article for you.

Looks like all the kinks aren't worked out yet...I have the same problem following the link in the original post.Probably like Patio said, just an issue with the new system. Doesn't SEEM like that good of protection if they're just blocking deep links.

Solve : The trouble with tribbles ( computer trouble and knowing what to call it )?

Answer»

Not knowing what to call this issue i thought about the old Star Trek episode ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Trouble_With_Tribbles_(TOS_episode) ) ( for those who do not know Star trek nor do they know the episodes )

i won't even say if this is the best analogy but the "subject" itself sounds good enough to get people to look at this and better yet to respond.

First, allow me to say that i THINK forums that are in_place to help those of us with computer related
issues to post to a general public of people who check in enough where they can respond to these questions is a blessing in a manner of speaking since the time of free "life time support" is long over with.
As good of an idea that that may have been in the begining it must have become obvious fast that it wasn't practical for a computer company to offer phone in support "forever". And in case people do not know what i am talking about it was once SOP ( standard operational procedure ) to offer life time phone in support for those who not only purchased but had ( second hand ) to call in and wait for hours on hold to get tech support for computer related issues. Obviously that sounded good but could never be cost effective especially in a world where some 5 year old computer that someone paid $4,000 for is now worth $400.00 dollars at best And for those of us who have been involved with computers for ten years or more know how many giants bit the dust and can no longer offer phone-in support.

So without attemping to give my impression of the whole computer history etiquette i just want to say that asking for help can be as daunting as giving help. i'm never sure what to look for before i ask and when i do ask i question whether i am asking correctly. To me it is interesting that only one person answered my question about the hard drive ( Patio ) which i really appreciate. But i have a theory which has to do with gender. i think if my computer nick name was Heather or "computer-miss", more people would have
answered the question. i might go as far as to say that if i used a name that suggested a race, color, or creed, the response might be different than if i presented myself as a Caucasian male; in this case a white male gets less response than a white female. From there it's all down hill.
etiquette
Any thoughts about this subject?I can't speak for everyone else, but I don't really take any of these things into account. Unless there are obvious signs to tell me otherwise, I initially assume everyone is male. Not because I'm sexist, but because it's easier than thinking of people as genderless (which I sometimes do because all I see is text). When it comes to pronouns, he/him/his is less confusing than they/them/theirs. And I choose the male persona because I myself am male, so it's just an automatic thing. If someone turns out to be female, it doesn't change how much help I provide. It may, however, change how I help them (my approach, not my steps), simply because I talk to females differently. After all, I have always liked girls more. Ha. But I don't feel that this changes much. It's more about communication than anything.

Race doesn't really make a difference, especially on an online forum. It's not too common for me to know what someone's race is on here. I might make assumptions with people I deal with regularly (like my fellow MODERATORS or people I help multiple times), but for the most part, I think it's too much of an effort to try to give every name a face. This is different over the phone and in person, of course, because this detail is a bit more obvious, but it doesn't change anything for me. And I don't see why it would.

Creed is the same as the above two. Whatever religion, it doesn't matter to me. I've helped Christians/Catholics/Protestants, Muslims, Jews, Buddhists, Atheists, Shamans, Satanists, Pagans, and even a couple of Universalist Unitarians. I'm what you would consider a heathen, I suppose, so I obviously don't agree with any of these religions, but that's not going to stop me from helping them. I have at least one friend from each of those listed categories, so I certainly don't discriminate. What matters is that we share common interests...and we all like the same movies, so I'm happy. I just don't get into religious discussions with any of them (especially my girlfriend). Heh. And on a help forum, there usually aren't any telltale signs of a person's beliefs anyway. A couple of our well-respected members make their beliefs obvious, but I'm completely in the dark with at least 98% of the people here. Either way, it has nothing to do with how much I respect a person or how willing I am to help.

No matter who/what you are, who am I to deny you help just because of your gender, race, or creed? Or age, for that matter. The help I provide relies primarily on my knowledge of the subject at hand, how the person presents themselves, and my mood at the time.

With that said...keep in mind that this is just what applies to me. In general, I do think that some of these things may calculate into how a person is treated or how willing someone is to help them. And I can understand that because although we have COME a long way, we haven't come that far. I certainly don't agree with it and I don't think it's fair, but it's the truth. But I like to think that for most people, it simply doesn't matter.

"People are just people; they shouldn't make you nervous." - Regina SpektorAs the old farmer said, "Don't make me no never mind". I try to never be prejudicial in trying to help someone. Gender, race, nor creed plays a role in my responses, but attitude does. Maybe/explain.....Well it could be Nathan.

Then again,we are taught to be nice to the ladies
in the South(USA) but, you can treat a guy anyway
you want to.

As for race.....I would be more obnoxious to birds
and nicer to cats and cows. Go Figure!I see no difference in any poster...and i try very hard not to make assumptions....

Everyone gets the benifit of the doubt....until they wear that out.Personally, it makes no difference at all to me.I am more inclined to help somebody if they show a few basic courtesies.

1. A subject line that describes the problem. When I am scrolling down a list of unanswered posts, if I see "LG burner won't work with Tuffdisk dual layer", I might well say to myself, "Hey! That happened to me!" and I can dive in and tell them to use Verbatims in future. Titles that just say "Help!" or "I have a problem!" just put me off answering. (Hello? This is a problem forum! Everybody's got a problem here!) Even worse, are title lines that attempt to "jump the queue" in some way, that seek to GRAB MY ATTENTION eg by using ALL CAPS, by elongating the spelling of words eg "Helllllppppp", or "My computer runs sloooooowwwww" or which have about 2 dozen exclamation points!!!!!!!!!!!!!! or which say "Help needed FAST!!!" etc.

2. A reasonable attempt to use plain English. I don't react well to people who use 133t speak, or who write in text-speak (using figures for words like any1 and "2" instead of "to".)

3. Again, a reasonable attempt to describe the problem. "My comp won't start" won't do much for me. "My Whizzbang 2500 running Windows 3000 gets to the login screen and then I see a message saying "Cromid error - rezone file 226 not found" is more likely to get me helping. I can open another window and get Googling even if I don't actually have personal experience of the error in question. Many of the successes I have had are achieved this way, actually.

4. If I see a problem that is way common, that could have been solved in 20 seconds using Google, or Windows help, again, I think, "That person is too lazy to even try to help themselves, yet they expect me to use up my time telling them how to wipe their own @ss". Courtesy again.

Now to where gender comes into this. I may be thought controversial here, but the failings I have just listed above are very very commonly found amongst adolescent and young adult males. It all comes down to "attitood". Girls and women are much more likely to say "This is what's wrong, please help me fix it". Boys tend to say "Well, actually I'm a computer genius, but I just happen to not know the answer to this "little" problem I have, so I want someone to fix it, like, NOW!!!"

Just my 2 (euro) cents worth.

Be careful not to stereotype us all there . . .

1. Depends - I tend to read their post before condemning it as rubbish, occasionally they have a coherent post with a bad title.
2. That's something I completely agree with. If they can't be bothered to type properly, I can't be bothered to help them, simple as that.
3. Sometimes people have a reason for not posting as much information as necessary - maybe they don't know how to get it, maybe they don't have access to the PC with the problem at that moment in time. Sometimes they just expect us to be mind-readers though, which is when they annoy me.
4. Again, I agree.I still feel different if it's Nathan.

I feel like it's his home.Go dress up as heather and we'll see how things go next time you ask something! To me, all people here are equal and the same.

If people here did judge, how would they know for sure who they are talking to? Because here on the internet, you can pretend to be anyone you want to be. A 24 year old male may pretend to be a 50 year old woman (don't knoew why, but...)Quote from: Raptor on June 03, 2007, 02:04:54 PM

i dont care how you ask the question, what race, gender, age, religion or anything else ill still try to help to the best i can. i would like to be able to read the question, but my endlish ISNT the best so i dont expect the posters to be either

Solve : Personal data found hidden in iTunes tracks?

Answer»
Fresh privacy fears have been sparked after it emerged that Apple has embedded personal information into music FILES bought from its iTunes online music store.

Technology websites examining iTunes products discovered that personal data, including the name and e-mail addresses of purchasers, are embedded into the AAC files that Apple uses to distribute music TRACKS.

The information is also included in tracks sold under Apple’s iTunes Plus system, launched this week, where users pay a premium for music that is free from the controversial digital rights (DRM) software that is designed to safeguard against piracy.

The Electronic Freedom Foundation, the online consumer rights group, added that it had identified a large amount of additional unaccounted-for information in iTunes files. It said it was possible that the data could be used to “watermark” tracks so that the original purchaser could be tracked down were a track to appear on a file-sharing network.

Ars Technica, among the first websites to unveil the hidden information, said: “Everyone should be aware that while DRM-free files may lift a LOT of restrictions on our personal usage habits, it doesn't MEAN that we can just start sharing the love, so to speak. Sharer beware.”

An Apple spokeswoman was unable to comment when contacted by Times Online.

Solve : Databasing?

Answer»

Hi, thanks for taking a moment to read my post. I want to build a forum on my company's website, but it's seriously difficult to get involved with database TOOLS when you have zero guidance. My webspace provider has a tool which I can use to generate a MySQL database, and I have employed that tool, but I dont' know what to do now. I have tried to research this online, (same way I learned everything else over the years) but have only found sites and articles which seem to assume the user already knows alot about MySQL or PHP. Any input from an experienced MySQL user would be greatly appreciated. My biggest Q is " how do I interface with the database now that my webspace host has automatically installed the software?"

Thanks for readingdo you want to build a forum from scratch??Are you the webmaster for the company's website? Do you have access to the cPanel on your hosting service's site? If not, I'd get together with whoever has access, logon to the web server for the company's website and see whether forum installation is available as part of their service.

Many hosting services provide forum software as part of the benefit package of the hosting plan and they make installing a forum very easy. I'm assuming the company pays for hosting for their website; my comments will not apply to free hosting. A fee-based hosting service will normally have any user control panel, OFTEN called cPanel, where you can control various aspects of your account, and this is where you'd find a menu or button to install a forum. Of course, you would then need to logon to the forum admin panel and set up your forum sections, etc.I am admin, I subscribe to a hosting package from a large firm. there is a tool which installs a MySQL database on the control panel of the hosting site. I have installed the database. there is literature on the site but as I said earlier it assumes the user knows at least how to interface with the database, which I do not. this is frustrating to me as I am not a newbie to computer sciences or programming. I am just new to databasing. furthermore, the literature on the site is very limited. no article is more than 2 or 3 sentences long, which I think would be a little lack-luster even for a novice. So if anyone might POINT me in the right direction I would really appreciate itHere's a screen print of cPanel from totalchoicehosting.com. It shows SMF Discussion Boards (circled in red) as being available for installation, and clicking on the link for New Installation (circled in red) executes the installation. No installing of MySQL is needed. The installation procedure initiated from cPanel installs all the required files for the forum.
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y256/farmpond/cPanel1.jpg
That would be a very sweet option, but I do not have it. netFirms (my host) only offers "30 mySQL databases" with the level of account I have chosen. On the cPanel I have the exclusive option to "install MySQL database". having chosen that option, it prompts me to choose under which URL I would like to install the database.
I chose the appropriate url, but it seems that I am on my own from here, to use the installed files to program a forum into the site. How hard can it be right? XDWith my hosting service, the option to install an SMF forum is not at all conspicuous by looking at cPanel. cPanel has a button for a feature called Fantastico. Only by clicking on the Fantastico icon do I see the panel where the option to install SMF appears.

Are you sure the option is not hidden somewhere in your cPanel options? Here ya go, from Netfirms: How do I install phpBB so I can add a forum?.Thank you Soybean. My site has a forum on it. NOw I just gotta figure out how customise it's appearance. but that is a QUESTION for another forum! So, you installed a phpBB forum based on the info on the link I posted? Yes, phpBB has a support forum; it's at http://www.phpbb.com/community/ if you haven't found it yet. Your host service ALSO has a forum, doesn't it? And, phpBB has more support options @ http://www.phpbb.com/support/. Getting into the admin panel and navigating around through the various screens should also help you familiarize yourself with the features.

Solve : Video/Audio Help?

Answer»

Ok, so I'm having a majorly annoying problem with my videos. The audio gets dragged out and glitchy, like an echo (not sure how to describe it) every so often during the video. While this happens, the video slows down (which isn't all that obvious). For some reason, this doesn't happen with any new videos I download, which might be because its a different TYPE of file. I'm not exactly sure on this, as I can't test every file I have. At first I thought it might be my codecs, but i've updated every codec i can think of, which didn't change anything. This has only happened recently, mind you, and I did no significant changes to my computer since then. It doesn't matter which player I use either, as they are all like that, albeit, some less than others. The problem hardly happens at all with sound files. I've even checked my task MANAGER and my computer isn't lagging at all to cause it to do that. Its very strange to me, as I can't think of anything that would cause it. I hope its not that the files have been damaged in some WAY, as some of them are very hard to find.

System:
Windows XP Pro
Intel Pentium 4 3.00 GHZ
1024MB RAM
Radeon X1300/X1550 Series
Realtek AC97 Audio

If you have any questions ask.X1300/X1550 series - this is not a video card.
What happened before this started, and what players have you tried?
What protection do you have?Sorry, I meant X1550 Series, I had forgotten exactly what I had so I had to use dxdiag and thats what it said - I just typed it in without thinking.

Well, there wasn't much that happened before it started, not that I know of ANYWAY. I just went to watch one of my videos yesterday and it started doing that. The players I have tried are WMP, Core Media Player, Nero Showtime, and DIVX Player. DivX plays them the best by far, but it still happens sometimes.

And by protection I assume you mean firewall and antivirus. My antivirus is CA Anti-virus and my firewall is the Windows firewall. I have restarted my computer, reinstalled codecs, etc, anything I could think of, but there wasn't much of an effect. You need some spyware protection.
Have a look here and get Spybot and Adaware.
Install, update and run them, then post back and tell us if it's any better.
Before you post and after you've run them, try playing the files with VLC (also in the link above).
How well does that work? Its not any better. Despite the fact that I removed a crapload of AdWare, it remains the same. Also, VLC plays the files the worst, its extremely noticeable.

Edit: Also to note, its getting worse for some reason, even though I haven't done anything different. It can't be my sound card because the video slows down too. And the chances of it being both my video and my sound card is too slim. I am baffled... Another note, the video has become worse than the audio.

Quote from: lordvader781 on May 24, 2007, 05:59:20 AM

I find it funny that everytime I would take my computers to the GeekSquad for running slow or any other problem their answer was to reformat it.

I've also noticed that a reformat is the SOLUTION to a LOT of PROBLEMS they get. It's upsetting, but some people will keep going back. Just like the people who pay 20 cents more for the same gas that's being sold across the street for slightly cheaper.Quote from: CBMatt on May 24, 2007, 10:05:17 PM

Not surprising at all, as it is the least labor intensive solution, AND it will always WORK, if the hardware is intact. Unless the hard drive has a virus that is activated by the sector being RUN over...

Then you have an issue.

Solve : Slow sound.?

Answer»

I'm running Windows XP and Internet Explorer browser. My question is...

How do I change the speed of the sound on my computer?

I let someone use my computer, and somehow they changed to speed of the sound on my computer, so now everything is slow and skips. How can I SET the sound for my computer back to it's default settings?
How about a system restore to before you loaned it out? Thanks. I just tried it, and it done whatever for about 30 minutes, and when my computer finally RESTARTED, it said that it can't restore because nothing has been changed. But when I looked at sound troubleshooters, it says that the sound could be distorted and slowed down due to sound speed change..so I have no CLUE. It's driving me crazy.Does this happen with all players?
Which ones have you tried?

Solve : Ibex 2300 computer and old printers?

What should I do with an Ibex 2300 computer (made in the '80s)? Discard it? I also have several OLD daisy wheel and dot MATRIX printers. Thanks. You could offer your redundant gear to a local computer club if there is one in your area or advertise on E-Bay. Pity to dump even antique hardware without first finding out if someone ELSE can USE it.

Solve : Registry Repair?

Answer»

I've recently WIPED my hard drive due to numerous problems and restarted my system using the recovery discs provided. I thought that this took my system back to the state it was when first purchased. HOWEVER, since doing this I am still plagued by continuous messages advising that there is a major problem with the registry which needs to be repaires, and advising me to go to a specific website to download msregistrycleaner.

Why did the registry not get loaded in its original form, and how can I resolve this problem. I have had to RECOVER the system twice as the first time I ignored these messages and the system got progressively worse.Have you done a spyware/virus search?
What are the specs of your system?
Make any changes (hardware or software) prior to this?

For now, download Ccleaner (install without the Yahoo! Toolbar) and give the Issues part a bash, see if it comes up with anything. Thanks,

I did a virus scan (Norton) and found nothing. My problem is that I thought by recovering the hard drive and thereby wiping the contents and starting again, that the system would be reverted to new settings. However, these messages appear as soon as I had started windows again. The message is from Local System to User. It says, CRITICAL ERROR MESSAGE! - REGISTRY DAMAGED AND CORRUPTEDDid you format the hard drive when you reinstalled or did you just install over the current installation?

what OS are you using?

are you able to give Ccleaner a go?I have a Toshiba Laptop. When I used the recover disc I selected the full recovery which said that all contents of the hard drive would be wiped. Would this have included the registry, or is there a further action I can take? What version of Windows are you using?
Download Ccleaner, and there will be a side tab called "issues". click this then "Analyze" and it should pick up on anything wrong... post back once you have tried this...Quote from: TERENCE on May 22, 2007, 05:53:38 AM

I have a Toshiba Laptop. When I used the recover disc I selected the full recovery which said that all contents of the hard drive would be wiped. Would this have included the registry, or is there a further action I can take?

Everything includes the registry. It should be back as the day you got it.Hello again. I've downloaded Ccleaner and used the issues function. Found a few problems which were able to be fixed by the software. However, the annpying messages still appear.

Is there anything else I can do?Try running Ccleaner a couple more times, sometimes I've found that it finds more issues on a second RUN after just completing.

Only other thing I could suggest just now is to have a read through this
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545
as it gives a walkthrough on how to repair corrupted registries, only in XP though.

Solve : microsoft office document...?

Answer»

I do not have microsoft office. I need to open an email but the problem is, it is a micrsoft office document. Is there a way I can open it or CONVERT it to microsoft works (which is what I have)? PLEASE HELP!!!!Is it a Word document? If so, I know of two freeware options that will read Word documents. OpenOffice.org is a full office suite, so it could be used to open Word, Excel, Access, etc., files. For a much smaller download for a word processor, you could try ABIWORD.

If you just need to view the email attachment, not edit it, you could download and install a free Word Viewer from Microsoft. Or WORDPAD...included in Windows.

Solve : dark laptop screen?

Answer»

my toshiba LAPTOP screen is so dark the only way to see the icons is to hold a flashlight up to it. i pulgged in a desktop monitor to it and it worked FINE...has ANYONE seen or heard of this problem? What happened before this started, and how old is the laptop?
Try the brightness controls (many laptops have hotkeys for this, read your manual).the laptop is 5 years old, there are no controls on the monitor itself to adjust, nothing that i know of happened to it before it went dark. hane a niece that may have "played" with it, but nothing out of the ordinary that i know of. thanks for the replyLook for a key often labelled "Fn", sometimes picked in blue.
Hold that and look for brightness controls, often on the keyboard, picked in blue above sharing the same key as, say, F5.
They normally look like a little sun with an arrow.
Hold Fn and press the one with an arrow pointing upwards several times, see if that makes a difference.Quote from: rskins120 on May 27, 2007, 05:45:26 AM

there are no controls on the monitor itself to adjust

Check the keyboard. This can often be controlled by holding down the Fn key and pressing the brightness keys, which are usually found up by the volume control. I'll look for a picture to give you a better idea of what I mean.

Nice link, that details the things to check if the above does not work.thank you for the informative link, my problem sounds very familiar to the post on there. i am clueless though on how/where to open the laptop up or even where to begin to look for the problem.Quote
Try shutting and opening the lid a few times. I have this same problem with my laptop sometimes, usually it works after shutting/opening it once but sometimes it takes 10 or more times.

Quote
! I found when I took it apart that the switch that tells the laptop that the screen is "down" was held down by some plastic insulation that I accidentally moved. This made the laptop think the screen was always down. I moved it over and everything works fine now!!
Thanks for all the input, it put me on the right track!!

Well on the laptop my family has NEAR the top of the keyboard, where the screen and keyboard meet is this little piece of plastic you can push down. When you push it down the screen goes blank see if your laptop has something like that.nothing like that on my laptop. i tried the opening and closing of the monitor and that didn't work either....i guess i'll get out the scredriver set and start searching inside Another conclusion would be that the back light died in your laptop, you might want to get a local computer store to look at it instead of taking it apart.

Solve : problem w/ groups.google.com?

Answer»

i WANT to reply to a posting on a forum on groups.google.com but they've changed the forums & now when i try to reply i get the following message:

"The group you are posting to is a Usenet group. MESSAGES posted to this group will make your email address visible to anyone on the Internet."

anyone familiar with this issue on groups.google.com & can tell me how i can reply w/out revealing my entire email address in the reply? i tried to find help on their website without finding a solution to my problem. thanks!I dont use Google groups, so I can only suggest this:
If its really worth it, you may want to get a free internet mail account from one of the top service providers:
Google mail www.google.com (click on the "More" button)
YAHOO www.mail.yahoo.com
Hotmail www.hotmail.com

(Hotmail junk filter is quite good, I havent tried Google, they just opened their mail to the public)

If you dont need to confirm your email, you may want to type an address with random letters and numbers, eg: [emailprotected] which will not generate emails for anyone.

does anyone have experience with this problem on groups.google.com: "The group you are posting to is a Usenet group. Messages posted to this group will make your email address visible to anyone on the Internet."

can anyone familiar with this problem tell me how i can reply w/out revealing my entire email address in the reply? you have to log in to post messages & when you do, APPARENTLY it will now post your entire email address. i tried to find help on their website without finding a solution to my problem. thanks!i'm still STRUGGLING with this problem & need help:

Solve : Discovery Wings Channel?

Answer»

does anybody remember the channel Discovery Wings? I have been looking for legal downloads of some of the shows on there. nothing against military channel but i'd much rather have wings be put back on ... If anybody could help me where to download these shows, like learning to fly, etc... it would be greatly appreciated!

thanx in avvance
-Dillon
Do we have any Brits who can help here?

Discovery Wings was a BRITISH TV channel devoted to documentaries regarding aircraft. In the United States it has been replaced by the Military Channel, which still has a large portion of its programming dedicated to military aviation.

In the UK, Discovery Wings was axed in favor of a new channel called Discovery Turbo, on March 1, 2007. The new channel shows programs related to speed and all things motored, but aviation documentaries are still aired.
I'm not familiar with the PROGRAM. However, if it's a legal download or something that isn't copyrighted I usually first check the two most POPULAR video sites. YouTube and Google. I did a search and it does look like both sites have some promising RESULTS. the below link is the results Google for both since Google now implements video searches on all owned sites.

http://video.google.com/videosearch?q=discovery+wings

Granted this will not probably be the best quality but if you're looking for something in particular or just want to watch some of your favorite clips this may be a good resource if you can't find it elsewhere (aka bittorrent).kk thanks for the help! i will check yahoo later! Always glad to assist friend.

Solve : Sound and Speakers?

Answer»

Any suggestions for troubleshooting LACK of sound?

Things appear to be properly connected.

We run Windows XP and our computer was recently "rebuilt". Is there something that we need to "go in" and do?Do you know if this is an add on sound card or ONBOARD ? ?

If onboard look for the drivers on your Motherboard driver CD which should have come with the machine...

If an add on card this should have also come with a driver CD...

Either way re-install the drivers and you should be good to go.

If you are unsure at all about what's in that system DLoad and run Everest Home which will TELL you exactly what components you have...run a report and save it as a text file then post the sound section info here and we can assist further. So,are your sound drivers installed properly on
your operating system?

Edit: LOL,Wish I had seen that 23 SECONDS ago patio. I need help retreiving the sound on the computer, the speaker is working but when I play game the sound does not work. What should I do?lotlot77 ..... Pleas start your own thread ,it causes nothing but confusion when your hijack the thread

Also, if you were to boldface the Inbox folder, that would conflict with the normal behavior of a folder title being boldfaced when it contains an unread MESSAGE, just as the titiles of unread messages are boldfaced.

Ok, i download clothes hair makeup ect. But for some reason most of them dont show up in my game!!! they show up as one thing(Like in my pants, they show up as one pair of pants so i looks like i have 5000 of the same pair of pants!) i really dont know why and it really annoys me. does anyone know how to fix it?Umm . . . what?
Care to provide some information?
Such as what game this is?
Where are you downloading these items from?
Etc.Sorry. For the Sims 2. I have almost all of them besides Open For Business. These are the sites i downloaded from

http://www.lueppiline.de/indexeng.html
http://xmsims.com/
http://www.all-about-style.com/index.html
http://happyhh.s82.xrea.com/
http://www.rosesims2.net/index.html
http://modthesims2.com/
http://www.www.parsimonious.org/fashion2/
http://myhome.hanafos.com/~zocbal/index.htm

I also download from TheSimsResource.com but those work most of the time.Hiddensecrets,

My suggestion would be to

Sim-mer down, this sounds like it could turn out to be a hot issue,

Can you tell me when you down load, clothes hair makeup ect.,

where do you download them to,

I mean is this a decorator or model game, like dress up barbie doll or something like that ?

Ok, i download clothes hair makeup ect.
That one totally threw me off at first. Thanks for clearing it up. Heh.

Now...how LONG have you been having this problem?
Are you sure you're following the proper procedure for importing these items?
What OS do you have? Video card?

Unfortunately, I don't have a copy of the game, so I can't test this out...but maybe you're just GETTING some bad files?

Jp,
It's a life simulation game.
http://thesims2.ea.comOk, uhm. A few months ago, I started playing it. But i realized all of my stuff i downloaded had been deleted.. My mom checked my PC and found that the file that everything was in was gone.. So after that happened, thats when the problem started.

I GUESS you guys wouldn't know how to help because I have no idea what kinda video card I have.. and I have no clue what an OS is. OS = Operating System (Windows 98, Windows XP, Linux, etc.)

For your video card...go to Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Information. In the left panel, click on the + NEXT to Components and then click on Display. In the right panel, it should display the name of your video card. This information can also sometimes be found printed on the front of your PC.

As for your game...have you tried reinstalling it? It sounds like certain files may have been corrupted, based on your description. First, make sure you have the latest patch. If that doesn't work, you may need to reinstall. This will be a bit of a pain, but I would suggest backing up your savegame files, uninstalling The Sims 2 (and any expansions), running Cleaner and Issues on CCleaner (install without Yahoo! toolbar), rebooting, and reinstalling your game. Phew.Ok. Its just my game thats screwed. My cousin is able to fix it, thank anyway guys!Too bad, I wanted to hear Jp talk about "Dress Up Barbie" That certainly would be entertaining. Heh. In any CASE, I'm glad you got it sorted out. Thanks for actually updating us. But I'm a bit curious about how it was fixed.

Solve : Living With, Loving and Dealing With Windows Vista?

Answer»
PC Magazine

Last week, Vista and I started living together again, and Tiger moved into an apartment across the hall. I like Vista, but she's sometimes a tough companion.

Tiger and Vista are both ATTRACTIVE, but my new roomie is just so much more pleasing to look at — and she likes to do fun stuff that's quite different from the cat woman. Over the weekend we did the Vongo together and hung out at the Yahoo Music club. Tiger wouldn't do either.

Vista also is much more social. She loves to nudge her friends and hang out at social clubs MySpace and Live Spaces. She's quite particular about her social calendar, too.

Tiger is staying close, just across the hall, because she's hoping I'll kick out Vista again. But my relationship with Tiger was going to end again anyway. Leopard is coming to town in October, and we had been talking about hooking up.

But relationships can be messy, and I'm no longer certain Leopard will be moving in. Vista's sometimes ERRATIC and cantankerous behavior is quite charming.

Vista is more complicated than Tiger or my older roomie, WinXP.

For example, when I want to change the time on the clock or bring something new into the apartment, Vista will stand in front of me, arm outstretched and palm put forward. Vista expects me to get her approval. She has to be the one in control.

Vista and Tiger travel in different social circles, and Vista is quite fussy about my older friends.

I mainly kicked her out a few months ago because she and VPN would get into these huge arguments. They were incompatible. But VPN and Vista are much friendlier now.

Tiger and I used to go out regularly with our buddy iTunes to play scrobble with Last.fm. But Vista and Zune refuse to scrobble, which hasn't been good for my relationship with Last.fm.

Vista doesn't like some of my new friends, either. Last night I invited Lightroom over to share some photos. But Vista refused to give the pics to Lightroom. I'm baffled why they're so incompatible.

When Vista hangs with her friend IE 7, both refuse to go to some places I want to.

IE 7 will throw a fit and crash on the floor. Vista says that IE 7 is somewhat self conscious about his DEP tattoo, which some clubs and restaurants refuse to accept.

Sometimes Vista's behavior is so devoid of logic, I plunk down on the sofa and emotionally withdraw from her.

For example, Vista has this pesky habit of buying new clothes on the second Tuesday of every month, and only then.

Last week, she put on her new second-Tuesday wares without telling me and then proceeded to bust all the locks on the door. It was total non sequitur. I had to replace all the AVG 7.5 branded locks with those from OneCare.

Tiger is a free spirit and she insisted we have no locks on the door whatsoever. But Vista is much more popular, and she attracts some seedy followers.

Vista and I are both friends with WinXP, who would go to BIKER bars and, when she lived with me, would sometimes open nasty grifter sweepstakes mail.

Some of WinXP's nastier friends have their eyes on Vista, so those locks are necessary.

At least Vista has better habits than WinXP. Vista may be outgoing, but she's cautious, too. She won't just talk to anybody, and she's pretty good about sizing up trouble.

Vista may be sometimes unpredictable, but I have good confidence that the apartment won't be burglarized because Vista let just any so-and-so walk inside.

Vista expects me to occasionally profess my love for her, and she says it's the only way to validate our relationship. If I don't, she just emotionally shuts down.

Vista has her character defects, but she is just so lovely and charming in other ways. I did have to move to a bigger flat to accommodate her needs. But I'm enjoying the extra room, too.

When Vista first moved back in, she was all business, but now she's the ultimate.

Vista is on her best behavior when I do things her way, and she's quite fun then, too. She is more observant of when I do things and she goes out of her way to work with and around my schedule.

Vista also has this amazing knack for FINDING almost anything anywhere in the flat. Her networking skills are extending our social circle, in a way that makes me feel SURPRISINGLY safe.

This time, we're going to stay together, methinks. Vista is putting lots of energy into making the relationship work, as am I.

But Ubuntu has been asking to sleep over, and I really wish Vista would be more willing. I repeatedly ask her, "Why can't we be friends?"

Sadly, Vista is the jealous type.

One day, my two friends Vista and XP had an argument. The argument got out of hands and they started fighting. XP was quickly writing virses and forcing them onto Vista but VIsta's system was well protected.
XP had a lot of thinking space (ram) and made a smart move. Vista tried to block it but his reflexes weren't fast enough because he was thinking too much (using too much ram).
Vista's antivirus overloaded and blew up as he hit his head on the floor. He was motionless....
Xp got up, rebooted, and was back at full capacity and suffered 30% memory loss, a fried PSU and Video Card and his RAM overloaded.
Vista's RAM was destroyed and all other systems overheated and unoperatable.

This is what happens when two friends fight.me too

Answer»

iv just spilt a glass off milk on my laptop, iv TURNED it off pulled out the batt blasted it with the hairdryer and wiped it down is there anything ELSE i should do to it and do you reckon it will still work..........im dying to turn it on to check if it is still working but i dunno if that would be a very good iear. Well if you've done all that all I can say is to try and turn it on again. If it doesn't work leave it open over night near (not right NEXT to) a heater or a heat source and the next day try to turn it on again. If it still doesn't work you might have to BRING it in somewhere or BUY a new labtop.Leave it open near a heat source.
If it does not work after that, it will need specialist repairs.
Do NOT attempt these yourself, you will cause damage.
Next time, be more careful. No point crying over it...

Solve : LINK - to a neat tech quiz- post results for fun ~?

Answer»

NEW YORK — A broad survey about the technology people have, how they use it, and what they think about it shatters assumptions and reveals where companies might be able to expand their audiences.

The Pew Internet and American Life PROJECT found that adult Americans are broadly divided into three groups: 31 percent are elite technology users, 20 percent are moderate users and the remainder have little or no usage of the Internet or cell phones.

But Americans are divided within each GROUP, according to a Pew analysis of 2006 data released Sunday.

Solve : Writing a executable script in UNIX?

Answer» Hello,

Can someone please help me with the below?

Create an executable script file called “newname” that will perform the followings:

Rename a file upon the user’s request. If the file exists, prompt the user for confirmation before renaming the file. The screen should prompt the user for
“Name of file you want to rename.” Use the “\c” escape character.
“New name of file” Use the “\c” escape character.
“File Exist” to avoid overriding a file.
“File $oldname CHANGED to $newname”
“Do you want to rename another file?” If the user SELECTSYES” the system should refresh the screen and if the user selects “no” the system should exit to the prompt sign.

I am stuck on how to get input from the user and how to check if it is an EXISTING file. Also, I am unclear with using the "\c" escape character. Please help or direct me somewhere I can get help. Thanks!

PS..

This is what I have so far. I'm using the vi editor. I'm not even sure if I'm on the right track

vi nename [ENTER]

echo "Please eneter the name of the file you want to rename"

I bought a new Hewlett Packard printer, and did all the things I was supposed to do. Emails print OK, but when I tried to print a letter, the words looked like I was using an old typewriter, with a worn-out ribbon. I tried to access the on-line tech, but could not. On the test pages, the one with the SQUARE and cross (color) are perfect, but the BLACK and white numbers on the TOP left are way off. The first letter/number that just touches the edge of the paper is A9. Can you help me? Brand new and doesn't work sounds like time for a return. No need for a key. Its just set so that people can describe their post with an icon.

Any chance of a "solved" icon for threads that get sorted?

Solving them is the key...then we can go from there. Some forums tend to mark solved threads by having a mod or admin, or the OP, edit the title to include "Solved!" at the end.
I just think it's extra work, there doesn't seem to be much point to them.
The smiley faces ETC usually just get ignored, people use them for no reason.
However, they can be useful in some CASES, for example to mark out important announcements.Since half of the posters leave and the other 2/3 never get solved the administrators would have a hard time finding the remaining 1/3.. It would take them away from other DUTIES.. Like.. Harassing me..!

I for one ignore Happy Faces but I do not ignore Happy Hour !
