Solve : I need help---Virus seems unremovable?

Answer»

No matter what I have DONE(Norton virus scan,Spyware Doctor,Spybot search and DESTROY,cwshredder)this thing comes back.
It is a popup ad in mutliple variations from www.vv3.s13.tempx.cc
It says your PC is infected in an attempt for you to go to their site and buy software.
At times it takes over the brouser and I have to shut down.
After running virus scan on Norton I get a popup window stating that 4 viruses REMAIN and my pc is still infected.               :'(Help.michaelj1006.......You really should have posted this in the spyware and viruses section ....but ......what operating system are you using .........?
When Norton detects the 4 viruses........it must say something like Deletion failed ......but it should also name them and tell you where they are residing ......
Can you give us this info .......?
Also try this.......shut down your internet connection , reboot into safe mode ........then while in SAFE mode run Norton again and see if you can delete these pests.

Solve : i can't go further than logging in Help!! i?

Answer»

my computer won't let me go furthere after i log in because it want me to register windows what should i do i have a xp home edition and i don't have any idea what caused it i did not delete anything i tried system restore and i went into safe to see if i would let me go through but nothing.    Firstly, you use punctuation to make sure that people can understand your POST.

Secondly, use a bit of common sense. Windows is occasionally quite bad when it comes to error messages, but in this instance it is even telling you what is up - you haven't registered Windows. What exactly do you expect us to do - send out our army of magic pixies to register your copy with Microsoft?Well.... All you have to do to solve this problem, is register Windows! Do you have an internet connection? If so, then that's all you need!

[glb]Flame[/glb]first of all the thing wouldn't let me FIX because it didn't tell me how to register....
Second of all the page is blank there is no WAY to know what i need to do. as for registering that labtop i already did when i bought it then suddenly it POP up this crazy MESSAGE out of no where so thanks for your help! Can you boot in safe mode?

Solve : Images won't automatically download from digital c?

Answer»

I've taken some photographs on my digital camera and want to download them to my pc.  When I first attached the camera to the USB lead XP detected the new hardware, but it doesn't bring up the box asking if you WOULD like to either copy the images, view as a slideshow, explore the contents etc.

I use a similar camera at work on another pc using XP and it does it first time.  Is my pc using the wrong driver?  Or do I have to do SOMETHING ELSE before it will work?  I have used the CD that came with the camera but it still won't download automatically.  I have to navigate through My Computer to the cameras drive and do it all manually. If the camera came with a cd , then install the software.xp won't always have all the drivers.mrip.......Is the camera you use at work exactly the same as yours and is that system using exactly the same software as you have installed on your home pc ?
The fact that you are able to download your images suggests to me that things are working as they should unless you have missed a setting when you setup your camera software on your home machine .

When you read the camera manual does it say that it is supposed to do this automatically ?

dl65

Well the cameras I use both at home and at work are all Fujifilm FinePix Cameras, but all different models.  The one I now use at work is brand new, having replaced a model I'd been using for about 2 years.  Both of them, as soon as you plug the camera to the USB and turn it on brought up the the box with your options to download/view as a slideshow etc.  Now the camera I use at home is only just over a year old, essentially it uses the same software as both the cameras I've used at work and both my pc at work and at home both use Windows XP.

It is really bugging me, because if I insert a CD or DVD into my DVD drive it does bring this box up asking me what I want to do with what I've just put into the drive.  I think this could be just a case of configuring how my pc deals what is suppose to do when the camera is connected to it for download.

I await your thoughts. mrip.....It sounds to me as if you are refering to three differant cameras .....2 at work and 1 at home ....All made by Fuji .....but differant models.
Then you say the software is " essentially the same " the question is , is it the same ......( That I dont know )

"It is really bugging me, because if I insert a CD or DVD into my DVD drive it does bring this box up asking me what I want to do with what I've just put into the drive.  I think this could be just a case of configuring how my pc deals what is suppose to do when the camera is connected to it for download. "

You may have answered your question .... you say the box opens asking you what you wish to do .......that sounds ok .....what happens when you answer that ? I am quessing that you wish to burn a cd using the images you have transfered to your HARD drive .....
Is it possible that there is differant burning software on the pc at work than you have at home .....
Remember that if both your work pc and your home pc has "exactly " the same software ( with respect to the TRANSFERING and burning images ) and it is configured "exactly" the same way ......then they should work the same way ......If anything is differant ......then they may not work the same way ....

Your lies are extremely flawed. Why would a mother's son hand over questions to a mother when she should tell him it's his job to do his homework? And why in such detail? Unless you'd have the paper (Which you shouldn't, because your son should carry it with him) you couldn't have known all the questions.

Either you're a really bad mom who always got away with getting other people to do your homework for you (which would explain why you know jack all about computers) or you're really, really bad at making up excuses and probably never miss class because they always find out about you, anyway.

I want to know about the intrecies of IRQ sharing. What is the actualy mechanism of IRC holding PCI IRQ steering that allows multiple devices to comply on the same IRQ. Does it have anything to do with the addresses of I/O ranges or what. PLEASE explain so I can continue as a professional *censored* kicker...

~-=Chinotro=-~ A quiz? What quiz? Nobody told me about a stinking quiz.  I demand to know why I didn't get the memo about a quiz. Sheesh!

PS. Arch, if you get the answer to question #52, please pass it along. Thanks.  That would be..................................... ...........

Solve : LAPTOP VOICE/MUSIC?

Answer»

I was wondering how I can get a good, loud amplified sound with a microphone attached to my 35M series Toshiba Laptop. The speakers already pre-installed in the Laptop are very poor and low sounding. I don't think I have enough HOLES in the system to accommodate the microphone line and a bought speaker connection. HELP!!!  I would really LIKE to use my laptop as a karaoke, but don't know where to start or what is the cheapest route. Thanks a lot   Try turning up the volume... IS it set to the maximum amplification? Also, seeing as you are trying to RECORD a VERY loud sound, try SCREAMING into your mic.....

[glb]Flame[/glb]I'm not joking. I need to know how can I upgrade my laptop so I can use a microphone to it. I'm a singer and thought it CONVENIENT if I was able to bring my laptop around by plugging it and popping a karaoke CD and SING through the mic.Well.... Like I said... Turn up the volume on the computer... Is the volume turned up all the way? Also, if you do not have enought room, or enought ports on the laptop for these connections, then you are out of luck...

It is not an example that shows an important file being deleted, but it is still an example... Say you install a PROGRAM, and that program has images inside that are icons for soem of your folders... Well, say you deleted the program and ALL of its contents... Those pictures would be gone, and your folders could become corrupt... Understand now? The whole idea is that important files are hidden EVERYWHERE, so you never KNOW what risks you are taking until it is too late...

Solve : HELP! DELETED EVERYTHING ON C: DRIVE!!?

Answer»

I need some help bad!  My computer was running slow so I decided to delete everything off of it and start over to try and make it run faster.  Well the comptuer is about 6 years old and in the beginning had Windows 98 SE as the OS and then about a YEAR ago I updated it to Windows XP Professional.  I had Norton on the computer and went to the "wipe all" section and told it to wipe the C: drive and when I restarted the comptuer it says NTLDR is missing and won't let me do anything.  Does anyone now what to do?  I would greatly apprectiate some help, thanks.

JonJon Spencer.......If I'm reading you right , you have deleted everything on your drive and will have to reinstall your operating system........However in your case you updated from Win98SE so you will have to load it first and then load the Win XP pro upgrade cd.
I would use your Win 98 boot disk and format your C drive to be sure its clean .

dl65  Well thank you!!  I appreciate the help i just have one more question how do i go about formatting the C: drive I'm not sure how to do that... One real easy way is to figure out what manufacturer your hard drive is. Then download there software to do it such as for a Maxtor drive they have a program called MaxBlast 3 that will do everything for you.

If you do not want to go that route. I Believe you make a bootable floppy. Be sure to copy format.exe onto the disk.

I believe it is:
format /s c:  or is it format c: /s  for win98. In dos you simply can type the command such as format then put a /? after it and it will describe how to use the exe. Like this:
format /?

Cheers-- oh and anybody CORRECT me if I am wrong. Quote

...how do i go about formatting the C: drive ...(

How to install Microsoft Windows 98
Ok this is embarassing...but I lost the Windows 98 cd rom but I still have the boot disk.  :|  I'm curious since I don't have the win 98 disc is there anyway i can just install win xp instead and format the drive? If it is an upgrade to XP disk then I am AFRAID you have to find a disk somewhere. Go to a flea market you ought to get one for pennies. Borrow one if you still have your own number. Be sure that if you borrow one that it is not just any 98OS it must match your original 98SE. I've thrown out almost a dozen of them with no regrets, sorry.

Another thought is if the old OS still sorta resides on the drive is try to use the "repair" function contained on the XP disk. But this is now venturing into an area I am not too sure of as I prefer Win2000.
Hey I just wanted to let everyone KNOW I got my computer fixed finally.  And I wanted to thank everyone that helped me out, I couldn't of done it without you guys.  Thanks a lot.

Solve : Cannot record since rebuild?

Answer»

Hello,
In Oct. my computer crashed and was subsequently rebuilt.  I have Windows XP on an EMachine. 70G hard drive, 256 RAM, Intel Celeron Processor, 766mhz and I don't know what other info I should list.
I am not ABLE to record on the Windows Sound recorder nor on the recorder in my e-mail software, Incredimail.  This was not the case prior to the crash.  The individual who did the repairs insists that he has to have more money even for a simple question about the new OS.

I have checked and rechecked all of the settings from the speaker on the task bar to the settings in the control panel.  All drivers check fine, everything that I have found to check and have been advised to check I have done repeatedly.  I tried to UPDATE the drivers but it read that I have the best ones already.
I have Intel (r) Integrated Audio sound device.  I know nothing about the insides of a PC.  My headset worked prior to the crash as does a little mic that I have.  I don't know what else to check or where else to look.  Any new thoughts  or IDEAS or directions would be wonderful especially if they solved this problem.  Someone SUGGESTED that something could have been left unplugged but I took the cover off the CPU and saw nothing obvious.
I can't see the back of the jacks for my headset from inside the CPU as there is a metal plate over them setting about an inch back.  This plate has small holes in it here and there but not enough for me to see the exact back of the two ports which are on the front of the CPU below the off button.
The headset is a Verbatim and is quite new.  It was sent to me by a friend in Australia and it worked fine before the meltdown.
Thanks in advance for any help at all.  I have been working on this for weeks with nothing gained so far.

FayeControl Panel---Sounds and Multimedia---Audio tab

Look in Sound Recording, does it show a Preferred Device?  If, yes, click Volume, then Options, then Properties.  Recording should be checked, then check all boxes in bottom window.  Line-In and Microphone should not be muted.  Adjust volume controls.Thank you kindly for your reply.   There is only the default device.  Intel Integrated Audio.

FayeHey - did you get fixed?  I don't do "recording", so I'm not the best responder for your situation.  Even so, it sounds to me like the most probable cause of your problem is that your microphone (or whatever you use to record) is not plugged into the proper connection of your SOUND CARD.
If you can look on the back of your computer (no need to take cover off), you will recognize (or perhaps you are already familiar with) your Sound Card slot because the speaker SYSTEM is plugged into it.  On this card there are several "holes" (jacks) for plugging in speakers and microphone.  All sound cards I've ever seen have icons etched in, showing the purpose of each hole.  ONE of the holes will show a tiny microphone.  Make sure your microphone is plugged in there.

I just had another idea.  Are you plugging into the FRONT of your computer (front of a CDROM drive)?  If so, this is a different problem and a different solution.  Did the fellow who "rebuilt" your system do any work INSIDE the computer case?  If so,  he might have DISCONNECTED your CDROM from your Sound Card.  Let me know.

If neither of the above is your problem let me know.  I will work with you if you like.
Hello I have a problem with my computer lap top.
By mistake yesterday I lost sound I cant play music or DVD. When i checked on contrl panel I wanted to set sound but it was grayed I couldn't manage to set it.
on sound setting panel I got a notice saying that no audio device what can i do now? please help me.

Solve : Job gave me a used computer?

My job GAVE me a computer they replaced with new one.  Everyone in the office GOT one, but now I can't seem to get rid of the administrator.  Is there any way I can "wipe out" the need of the previous administrator?  It won't let me INSTALL the WIRELESS card I just purchased, so I can't access the internet.  I promise you that I didn't illegally obtain this computer, but that it used to belong to the company.  Do I need to take it to a computer store to RESTORE the computer to its original condition when purchased?  Any help would be greatly appreciated. If this is now your computer to do with as you please then you'll want to format and start fresh.  You never know what nasties may be left behind by the previous owner.

Solve : WARNING TO HACKERS?

Answer»

Listen up! I see that someone on this forum does not know this already, so I guess I will just have to make a world announcement about it... Today, someone asked about "defacing" web sites... Incase everyone does not know what "defacing" is, it MEANS to HACK. Now, my point about this whole message, is to say this, "WE WILL NOT HELP ANYONE WHO IS ASKING US ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT HOW TO HACK! This forum was made to help people! Not to hurt them!" Now, my FIRST webiste was hacked, so I get really ANGRY when someone ELSE tries to do the same thing! So PLEASE, if you want to kno how to hack, take it away from this forum. Thankyou

[glb]Flame[/glb]Actually, a HACKER is simply a very advanced computer programmer. The name goes way back to the invention of the internet.

Solve : getting certified?

Answer»

i was wondering if anyone on here is either A+, C++, N+, S+, or cisco certified and how HARD are the tests. i plan on taking my A+ TEST at the end of the semester and also what would be best getting to have a job in the computer industryI don't have any of those qualifications so I couldn't give you details on that side of things. I will however pass on some advice my Computing teacher once GAME me.

Get a degree in computing. If you get a degree in games design (for arguements sake), you are pretty much LOCKED into the games industry, unless you want to go back and retrain. With a more general degree you'll be just as qualified and have more options for the future.

Hope that helps.Check out www.techexams.net they have a lot fo great information about getting certified. I want to get my net+. Good Luck!!

Solve : Mustek Scanner Problem?

Answer»

Daughter & I have a Mustek 1200 UB Plus SCANNER, we have had it for nearly two years now. First had it on WinME O/S & it worked perfectly. Daughter then upgraded me to win2000 & ever since then we have been getting the following message every time we try to scan "There is no document in your scanner". We looked on the net & it seemed it was a problem with Win2000 so daughter PUT WinME back on my pc. Yet we still get the same problem everytime we try to scan in WinMe now does anyone have any IDEA of what could be wrong.

Also, we used other imaging programs but when they scan, the image comes out in random streaks of red, GREEN and blue.  Reinstall Win2k, WinME is just plain Bad.  DOWNLOAD drivers for your Mustek 1200UB scanner.

see if you can change the color choices...then LOOK in advances at the various tabstype dxdiag in the run box.. run the test.....as raptor has quoted... the  graphics DRIVER are missing... win9x installs defaults drivers...you will not get beyond 16 colours with out the driverscheck as to what version of Direct-X you have.  Try installing the latest ONE .Ussually, when computer starts, the first thing that appears on the screen is the graphic card description. If it does not, then you'll have to open the computer chase, find the video card (if it is integrated on motherboard you will find on motherboard's MANUAL) and see what is written on it. Solve : Need help with Word 95....?

Answer»

I have two questions I need help with on Word 95;

1.  Since I recently formatted my Dell P200/Win98se, my docs now seem to have become "read only" files and I can't make any changes on them (i.e.  updating my resume).  How did I do that, and how do I undo that?

2.  Win98 or Word95 always defaults to a checkered red underline below printed website addresses and email addresses.  Then when I try to CUT and PASTE to a Word95 document, they print out as ERROR, BOOKMARK NOT DEFINED.  I know this has something to do with bookmarks, hyperlinks, or macros, but I'm unable to correct so these items will actually carry over to the page I'm printing.

Thanks for any help.

Thanks, but am still having problems with the email addresses or web sites transferring to a printed Word95 document.  I think this has something to do with Field Codes, but I can't seem to figure out how to permanently change the code (or even FIND them).  When I right click,  "Toggle Field" it will change from "Error, bookmark not defined" to the actual email or website address.  But neither way will this info still print from a saved Word Doc.

Any thoughts, since I've always been FORCED to hand write all of these fields in order to retain them. Are you copying and pasting from INTERNET Explorer to Word?   If yes, instead of Paste, select Paste Special (I think that feature is in Word 95, but not sure).  Then select Unformatted Text.

Solve : Computer sounds like it is running?

Answer»

When I first turn my computer on, the tower has what I would call a "normal" noise.  Randomly, it will go into what I call, "high gear," and sound as if it is working very hard.  This can last for a few minutes to several hours.  It will do this on and off whenever I have the computer on.  There seems to be no rhyme or reason to why it is doing this.  My worst fear is that someone has found a way to tap into my computer and is accessing it for whatever reason.  Does anyone know why this is happening?  Is it harmful to my computer?  Is there a way to make it stop?
Thank you.If this occurs when you are offline (or disconnected from a network) then you can rule out the cracker theory. You're PC has to be online for someone to access it.

Anyway, try updating virus and adware scanners and install a firewall.SLH.......Are you online or off-line when these activities occur?  Are you using dialup or hispeed ..?

What are you using for a firewall ?

What O/S are you using ?

DL65  Is this the fan you are talking about? If it sounds like a plane passing by, then you will know... lol   If so, then just open the computer case up, ground the electricity from your body, and clean the fan out...

I always update and run my virus, adware and spybot scans.  I have McAfee Personal Firewall.

It is awfully loud, so I will try to clean out the fan.  Thanks for the suggesion.  Any more ideas?SLH......If you are going to clean out your pc as flame suggests....purchase a can off compressed duster or something similar.......pay particular attention to the heat SINK...( the thing that the fan sits on ) ......when you blow the dust off the fan blades ...use a chop stick or something ( non-metalic ) to prevent the fan from spining while you blow it out .......( the pc is turned off of course ) ....... Now ....when you say your pc is running when your not using it ....are you seeing hard drive activity ( the led light on the case flashing on and off )
Yes , you are online all the time unless you shutoff the connection in the control panel .

dl65 MAKE SURE THAT: When you go to clean out your fan, ALWAYS ground the electricity from your body BEFORE touching ANY system components! Good luck...

[glb]Flame[/glb]I know that I should probably know this, but I don't.....HOW do you ground the electricity from your body?
Thanks!
OK... What you have to do it touch the inner metal frame of the computer... So you will take your computer, and put it on a table OVER a tile surface... Next, take off the cover FRO your computer... Next, touch the inner metal frame of your computer... That's all!

Also while playing some games, (majesty, singles, etc.) I   will get a restart or at LEAST a " singles.exe has encountered a prob and must close" msg.  It will restart the System or  shutoff a game at differing times and under differing moments so I am really unsure of the prob. Solve : How to connect to Mozilla Foxfire?

Answer»

Because my Internet Explorer has been hijacked, I down loaded the new Mozilla Foxfire browser. It seemed to work - favorites got transferred and I was able to move around the web. Subsequently, after establishing my DSL connection to EarthLink, I click on the Foxfire desktop shortcut (previously, I would click on the IE icon) and the connection is denied. The message is that my proxy server settings are not correct. Earthlink so far has refused to help saying that it does not support Mozilla. Any ideas as to what to do?youll have to reinstall the mozilla firefox... although mozilla firefox doesnt have all the features that IE have.. i suggest you downlowd Internet Explorer 6.0 in the internet... that would be better... anyways its free. =) Quote

although mozilla firefox doesnt have all the features that IE have

Sorry cleo1983 but I think that if you actually used it you would take all that back. I don't think you'll find popup blocking, tabbed browsing or support for RSS feeds (to name but a few) in IE...

Anyway, you have two options here awstokes, the choice of which is really down to whether or not you like Firefox (not Foxfire, by the way ) better than IE.

To sort out Firefox, you really should do as it says. If the error is saying that there is a problem with the proxy settings, then the odds are that this is what you'll have to sort. Go into Tools > Options and click on the General tab on the right. There will be a button NEARING the bottom which says "Connection Settings" - click it and make sure these setting tally up with how Earthlink/You need it SET up.

If you prefer IE (why?) then I'd recommend you get a spyware SCANNER. Search Google for either "Ad-Aware" or "Spybot - Search & DESTROY" and you'll find a decent freebie.

I have an Hp all in one and I need to know how to print only what I need or SECTIONS of page, partial pages, even one page out of 10! I may just want a picture, but it prints the whole page. Any way to separtate parts of pages and cancel what you don't need? If I cancel or shut off it prints when TURNED on. A lot of waste. Thankyou for any INFO!  Ernie ([email protected])File--Print--Page Range

dl65  thanks.  i changed it to boot up the cd drive primerily but when i boot up it still goes to this same screen. only change is that right after it says verifying dmi pool, it says very quickly "boot from ATAPI CD-ROM" then goes to the same screen with the SELECTIONS i mentioned previously.tf195....thats fine but you have to put your XP pro disk in the cd ....Reboot ....and then follow the instructions for a restore ....its all outlined in the page I gave you above ....

dl65  the xp disk was in the cd drive.REBOOT with the disk in ......thats what i didand NOTHING happened ?

Do you have more than 1 cd drive ......
Do you still have the bios set to boot from the cd drive ?
still goes to this same screen. only change is that right after it says verifying dmi pool, it says very quickly "boot from ATAPI CD-ROM" then goes to the same screen with the selections i mentioned previously.just rebooted for the 5th time, and it decided to tell me "disk boot failure" right after the varifying dmi pool data, also says INSERT system disk and press enter.  the disk is in the drive, when i press enter the light on the cd drive flashes, but nothing happensIs your Win XP pro an original or a copy ?
originalby any chance do you have anything in the floppy drive ?nothingalso says insert system disk and press enter.  the disk is in the drive, when i press enter the light on the cd drive flashes,

Was there any hard drive activity ..because it should have been scanning your system to see what it needs

Solve : Fractals?

Answer»

I'm just wondering if anyone has any experiance in creating Fractals?
I've had a bit of a search on the net and come up with a few things but has anyone got any experience in Making them?

To narrow it down a bit i'd like to find out how difficult they are to make and any recommendations about SOFTWARE or hardware requirements WOULD be helpfull.

Don't know if this will help, but the ODP has a nice list of sites which may help:

http://www.dmoz.com/Science/Math/Chaos_and_Fractals/

At the bottom half of the page you'll find MANY LINKS to the heavier mathmatics side of things, and at the top of the page you can go to the "software" section for a few apps to help, as well as a few tutorials.Great link.....

Theres certainly enough there to get me started

Solve : how to transfer computer server to a new server?

Answer»

we have 7 units of computer in a computer cafe.... the problem is the server,, too slow because it is a PENTIUM 2 and it has 256 sdram memory.... so now i want to transfer it to the other unit which is a pentium 4 and it has 256 ddram memory.... can any one give me the procedure or steps on how to do these... thank you....Ok. What I want you to do is connect them both together via ethernet network. When you do this, and establish the network do the following... Click Start -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Files and Setting Transfer Wizard. After just follow the on-screen instructions, anf you SHOULD be set. (MAKE sure that the files are being transported to the NEW server) Let us know what happens!

[glb]Flame[/glb]i was unable to do that... we are using windows98SE OPERATING system all of the 7 units.... i didnt found the files and setting wizard and i think thats for windows XP... any other options???Well.....
