Hi, i have my PC connnected to my HIFI but the other day (when i was WATCHING a few simpsons episodes) whenever someone went to the left hand side of the screen, the sound was coming out on the right hand speaker and VISA versa...Has ANYONE had this PROBLEM or got any ideas how to help?  Thankswhat connections ? cable ..........what graphics card............what SOFTWARE used........maybe the hi-fi cannot handle .....pc to hi-fi..was it via ..wireless headphones......

Hi all, me again. FIRST of all thanks for taking the time to read this. Ok well i just upgraded to a wireless boradband. The router is a Netgear. Ever since i have had the new connection set up i havn't been able to access msn. I have tried 3 versions. I GET a message saying "unable to log in, check firewall and internet" (not the exact words) then i get an error code. It is 810000306. I have typed this message on google but nothing seems to work.         DavidThat all depends. Normally, if you are using Internet Explorer to browse the net there will be a folder named 'Temporary Internet Files' in C:\Windows. It's there to store images so that, if you CLICK on the back button for instance, the site loads quicker because you don't need to load the images from the site - it just TAKES the ones on the hard drive.

However, you say it was 'sent' to him, so I'm assuming that it was by EMAIL or a chat client. Either WAY, have a look in their program files entries and you might get lucky.

I ran a registry program to remove old registered files after REMOVING them I rebooted as told do so.

but when I RESTART the computer it passes the boot menu and comes up with the windows screen the computer reboots its-self.

I have tried to use safe MODE but it comes up with an error windows protection.

Do you by chance have the Taskbar set on "Auto-Hide"?
If so, run your mouse-pointer to the bottom of the screen.

If not, try hitting the Windows key.

scan for trojans/worms bugs............disable system restore ..........to clean it.........If you don't get the start bar up by moving you cursor near the bottom of screen even hiden it should reappear, if not it will have been moved right down to the bottom of screen.  You should move the cursor as near the bottom as you can there will be a slight hint of a bar there try to drag it up.  If this fails it could have been moved to the right, left or even top of screen, CHECK these area with the same procedure.

Is it safe to delete all temp files? I seem to have 2 sets of temp files. One in windows and one in ( I think its called computer or C something. If not safe to delete everything How do you highlite a row of those rascals and delete them instead of 1 at a time. Thanks for any helpYou didn't mention your OS, but nonetheless......
If you have nothing running on your computer there should never be anything in the "temp" folders.  But files do get put there and not removed by programs, also INSTALLATION ROUTINES often drop THINGS in the temp folder and don't clean them up.  Viruses also love the temp folder, it is easy to find.

I have seen people save things in the temp folder because the program requests to be SAVED there and they don't know any better.

But, assuming good computer use practices, yes it should be safe to delete anything in the temp folders (I do it all the time).  Go to your temp folder and click the first file, hold down shift, click the last file, release the shift key, (or use + A).  All files are now selected.  Hit delete.  You may get one or more messages about deleting read only or exe files, just let it delete them.  If a file is unable to be deleted chances are that  it is in use and will be removed when the program using it closes.

My hard drive has two partitions. One partition (c) contains the OS and some programs. This partition is FORMATTED in the NTFS FILE structure. The second partition (D) contains most of the programs for my computer. This partition is formatted FAT 32. I would like to combine these two partitions into one. Is this possible? I have partition magic and an extra HD. Thank you for your help.Yep, Partition Magic can do that for you.  If you want it to combine the partitions then you will need to convert the FAT32 to NTFS.

If it were me, I would move the DATA off of the FAT32 partition, uninstall the programs, deal with the leftovers.
Then convert the FAT32 partition and combine the 2 parts.  Next reinstall your programs and put your data back.

But then again, I like clean.  Not a big fan of those programs that try to edit my SYSTEM files if I move the drive letter that a program runs from.  Some do very well but there is always room for error.

Hi,

I have 3 CD/DVD roms in my computer (pioneer).

If I leave the doors of them closed when windows XP is booting up the screen freezes just as the main windows desktop is coming up.

If I leave the all CD/DVD doors OPEN, windows will boot up normally.

If I then put a CD/DVD into ONE of the 3 drives it will either work or freeze the desktop screen.

You can imagine that this makes it very difficult to install multi cd SOFTWARE as it will only take the freezing of one disc to screw the intended installation up!!!

I've got a totally up to date computer which I built myself but I have never been able to resolve this problem.

I hope someone can advise and thanks in advance if you can!!!

Iain Halderchk irq problems and drivers ..........load winxp in safe mode to chck this...........confilicts exsists..have may drives have you got?also chck the drives are labeled PROPERLY...and the boot sequence is chcked.Why would you need 3 CD DVD drives?  Too many drives tend to CAUSE IRQ conflict, try manually allocate your IRQs

Remember text is small, pictures are much larger files, and video is larger still, so your CONNECTION has to send all of that.  Most webcams and websites for that matter now days ASSUME everyone has a high speed Internet connection, unfortunately.

i have some very TREASURED music tapes that i would like to transfer to my computer, does anyone outthere know how i go about this?Not very difficult - but you need connectors and an audio recording prog - I use Audacity which is FREE download.

You need a connector from the earphone socket of your tape player to the Line-in connector on your pc.  Start Audacity and then your tape.  The music will be recorded on your hdd and you can then save to a file, EDIT it, and using Lame convert it to mp3 if you wish.  Audacity comes with EXCELLENT manuals which will show you in fairly simple terms how to use the prog.

The recorded music quality may not be absolutely perfect.  You can ALSO use a Line Output from your player but not the external speaker connections.

does the USB drive show up in the bios/device manager?DVD-RW or DVD+RW, there is a difference.  Maybe your burner does one or the other and not both.

I recently purchased a MSI F8N Neo Platinum nForce3 (Socket 754) and the form factor is ATX but it DOESNT fit my ATX case. When I try to OPEN a  file with the CHAT icon it ALWAYS says not a micrsoft chat conversation file, what does this mean ? Is it another chat file. In firefox when you click on EDIT at the top in the drop down box i do not have preferences, BTW running windows 98se

Please  help- this is what happened
I have HP windows Millenium and I installed a digital camera.  after rebooting the computer after installation, my computer will only work in SAFE MODE.  I've rebooted it, restarted, etc... nothing helps.  What do I NEED to do?  When I do reboot, it gives me all these error messages.  Then on the screen that gives me options to use "normal" "safe", etc, I PUT normal and it freezes into a black screen and does nothing.  Safe mode works, but normal does not.

Thanks-  SarahFor openers, while in safe mode, uninstall the camera drivers and see if that gets you running again.  It sounds like the drivers are what caused the problem in the first place.If the digital camera is USB connection TRY starting normal mode with it unplugged from the computer to see if it STARTS up then. Let us knowsarah........if in safe mode.......uninstall the camera.....software add/remove programs...or the UNINSTALLER /and uplug the usb  camera  plug.......and re-boot. how many usbs have you got..........on this pc...??........you may have have plugged in the usb.......before installing the software........

Ok this happened about a year ago and is still happening. While i was playing warcraft3 it crashes all of a SUDDEN and im like ok just a normal crash but then it started to happen like every 10 minutes and for EVERY game!. I hade my copmuter whipe and it was still doing it. i Cleaned it everything. it is still happening i can play any games longer the  15 mins.

Is there any solution?

Does it happen in Windows doing "non-game" activity (Word processing, Spreadsheets, etc) ?

Have you noticed a set time value before it crashes?  MAYBE it is a Windows thing that you set a  Power-Saving feature to turn the drive / computer / etc after a set time / set inactive time.

It MIGHT be the cooling fans in your computer (on the processor, video card) have a problem keeping the item cooled.

I wonder if it could be your power supply fan that isn't keeping it cool.

Look in your  BIOS  to see if a setting is checked to shut down the PC if the PC temp reaches a certain level.  Maybe that was set too low?AH, I see you have two topics going with this problem, Nasarth.

We can't help you if you don't answer some of our questions.

Tim's question regarding whether you have this problem while running non-games on that system needs to be answered.  If you can do other things, like surf the Net for hours, WITHOUT any problem, then it might suggest a problem with the video card overheating during game play.  Have you checked the fan on your Geforce card?

Beep codes are not generic, they are specific to the BIOS, etc.

when i try to search for an infected file in search files and folders it comes up not found. What part of the name am i keying in wrong. The bugs that cant be removed are in my system restore. Can anyone help me please?System restore folders/files are hidden/system/don't go there types of files.  To kill a "bug" in system restore files just disable sytem restore, reboot , then re-enable system restore.   This will wipe out all your past System Restore files and create a new one - "bug" will be gone.

To clear system restore points:

Next .....disable your system restore feature . This will delete any previous restore files ( and the PEST along with it )

Next ......reboot into Safe mode and do ANOTHER scan for viruses and or trojans .......

Once you are certain you have no unwanted visitors.....
turn on your system restore feature ......

hi guys, i have just upgrade to version 1.0.1(MOZILA firefox), and cannot browse the web. the message 'The connection was REFUSED when attemping to CONTACT www.bbc.co.uk'. any ideasFrom what I read on the Web, the Firefox upgrade was a whole new version. Uninstall Firefox 1.0 then install Firefox 1.1 into the same directory.

 RyuuWhy would you WANT to do that!?  Can't be done.The only way to do this is using a remote CONTROL console application LIKE UltraVNC and networking them.

I have windows xp . and under power options I have ALWAYS on and never never never and also the hibernation square unchecked and my computer is still going into sleep mode at any time. Do I need to check anything under the advanced tab? Or is there anything I can do. ThanksSleep mode is called Standby.... Turn that off.... Hibernation is when the computer powers completely off, and when it turns on, it resumes your activities...

Go to your desktop and right click in an open area of it and select properties .... a display properties box appears......click the screensaver tab....and then the power button......now click the power schemes tab.........
down at the BOTTOM where it says ...System standby ......set it to NEVER ....... and
System Hibernation.......set it to never. Then click apply and ok ......
I think that should do it for you .....

Everytime I play windows media player and type at the same time, the media player pauses. When i continue to type, it plays. So basically it pauses/plays everytime i type. Plus the play button on my KEYBOARD won't play the songs on the media player! Also, my shift button on the right side of the key board wont capitalize some of the letters like c,z,x,v. Someone please contact me and help me!More info please - what OS are you using - how old is your keyboard - have you tried a different keyboard - how much ram do you have - what processor is INSTALLED - what prog are you typing into when the media player pauses - what version of media player are you using???

It could be - or could it be - that your keyboard is badly in need of a spring clean.  Or maybe you should try simply unplugging/replugging your keyboard.

Have you done anything to try to FIX the problem??well my keyboard is new..i just got it about 9 months ago. the brand name is called "zippy". I already tried unplugging it and plugging it back in, but it seems like its still doin the same thing. do u mind if u can EXPLAIN what an OS and a RAM is? it usually the m or the n key that pauses the media player. im not really sure what version the media player is. how can you find out?my computer is WINDOWS XP. please get back to me as soon as you can.Can you try a different keyboard

RAM = Random Access Memory usually expressed in megabytes (mb).

I have a HP windows xp and it is going into sleep MODE all the TIME. I have gone to propreties and checked NEVER never never and hibernating disable and it is still doing it. Any help is appreciated .Have you checked the power settings in the BIOS as WELL?Where are the Bios? THANKS

All right, so I did EVERYTHING I can think of to solve the fact that NEITHER my camera nor my printer will talk to my computer via USB.  USB is enabled in BIOS, the cord is fine, no IRQ conflicts, etc.  Any idea what I might try now?

[glb]Flame[/glb]THING is Flame, it may not even need drivers if the OS is post-98. Every Windows OS from ME upwards automatically detect devices and install the appropriate drivers itself.

Worth a try, but UNLIKELY. Unless you have 98, in which CASE Flame is very much correct...  Unplug ALL USB devices.
Open Device Manager.
View, Show Hidden Devices.
Uninstall all devices under USB Controllers.
Uninstall all devices under Storage Volumes.  Say no to any reboot prompts until you are finished.  Also, if a Storage Volume doesn't uninstall, ignore it and move to the next one.
If you have a yellow ? with unknown devices, uninstall all of the entries there as well.

When this is done, reboot TWICE.

Reconnect the USB devices and see if they're recognized properly.

My SON has been chatting ONLINE, is their a way to TRACK his activity and see what he's been talking about, are there FILES on the computer I can check?

Help.  My son downloaded limewire to DOWNLOAD music.  Now I have no sound from my audio DEVICE.  When I try and play a music CD it says that another program has the audio device.     I can't even play anything from another site.  I went to the sounds and audio devices properties and it says I have no audio device so everything is muted out.  And under MIDI music playback it says there is no MIDI playback device and this is muted out also.  On my PC at work this is not muted.  Can someone tell me what happened and how to fix the PROBLEM.  I unstalled limewire and this didn't solve the problem.  Someone told me that limewire and napsters does this but he doesn't know how to fix the problem. HELP

I've had this problem ever since i got my old Dell Lattitude LS laptop, and I've just gotten around to seeking help about it. It has the function keys for volume up and volume down, EXCEPT both volume up and down TURN the volume up. I don't know if this is a hardware or software thing. Anyone know how to GET my volume down key to turn the volume down?Have you contacted Dell about this? Also, are your sound settings in your control panel configured properly?

I would LIKE to BURN a CD where I have a slide show of PICTURES with music in the background.  I have looked on cnet for a download that would do this - but I am ignorant about what I would call what I want to do and if I have the hardware that it would take.  Can someone please explain to me how to do this.

I have a laptop with interchangable cd drive/floppy drive.....so like a fool...i STICK a boot disc in the other day so as to format the THING......but can't reinstall XP.
When i switch back on none of the device drivers for the cd drive will load because i have the floppy drive in with the boot disc in......

any ideas greatly appreciated

is your laptop bootable from CD? U can go into BIOS settings n c if u can set boot device to CD-ROM.

WinXP cd is a bootable CD. If ur laptop can boot from CD-ROM, then just connect CD-ROM to laptop, place winXP CD in ur CD-ROM and boot up laptop.

Also there are many ways to create a bootable CD. U can google for it. U'll need a CD writer though.

is there anyway that i can copy the cd device drivers off the floppy, then quickly SWAP the floopy drive for the cd drive.

Hi .I feel little still trying to use win95, but someone has to..any how I had win98 and it went belly up,but befor it did my better half compressed the cd-rom & used it as STORAGE, he thought it did'nt work,I WAS SLOW AT SETTING IT UP.what it is is that all I have is win95 program, for me it'll workme just to get the comp up and running.question, can and how do I clear the cd-rom , BIOS. when I try to install win95 it says  it found commpressed volume or disk-cache utility, how and where do I go.then when I continue with the set up I get an error mess. SU-0013 (If I have HPFS or WIN NT, I must create a MS-DOS boot PARTITION, & If I have LANtastic server or SuperStor commpression disable it before running setup. I dont know if I have or dont have them or how to find them,  
P.S. HARD drive is formatted.  I'm so lost.... PLEASE help

I have a couple QUESTIONS about midis.

1. Is there any way to turn wav files into midis?

2. Is there any way to make a midi file out of something thats not on a computer, without having to use a program where you have to write out the song?1: No.
2: Yes.

MIDI is a bit of a weird concept really. It's less like recorded music on a CD and a bit more like sheet music you use to play a song on the piano.

Simply, it's just a file that TELLS the computer (or sampler, if you want to go all OLD School - many disco, house and sometimes hip-hop tracks in the late 80's/early 90's were made in this sort of way) that a certain sound should be played at certain times.

As a demonstration, get a MIDI, and then find two PC's with completely different sound cards. They'll almost certainly sound completely different. That's because each sound card has a different list of sounds that are still being triggered by the MIDI.

Quite frankly, I'd say bollocks to MIDI. Unless you get racks and racks of samplers, drum machines and keyboards, you ain't going to produce anything of any value. The way to go is to get a USB/Firewire keyboard and use a virtual studio like Cubase or ReBirth to do it all.

And to further elaborate on the first ANSWER, the only way to turn a WAV to a MIDI is to sit down with a keyboard and try and remember all those music LESSONS. Sorry 'bout that.
