Solve : HELP! DELETED EVERYTHING ON C: DRIVE!!?

Answer»

I need some help bad!  My computer was running slow so I decided to delete everything off of it and start over to try and make it run faster.  Well the comptuer is about 6 years old and in the beginning had Windows 98 SE as the OS and then about a YEAR ago I updated it to Windows XP Professional.  I had Norton on the computer and went to the "wipe all" section and told it to wipe the C: drive and when I restarted the comptuer it says NTLDR is missing and won't let me do anything.  Does anyone now what to do?  I would greatly apprectiate some help, thanks.

JonJon Spencer.......If I'm reading you right , you have deleted everything on your drive and will have to reinstall your operating system........However in your case you updated from Win98SE so you will have to load it first and then load the Win XP pro upgrade cd.
I would use your Win 98 boot disk and format your C drive to be sure its clean .

dl65  Well thank you!!  I appreciate the help i just have one more question how do i go about formatting the C: drive I'm not sure how to do that... One real easy way is to figure out what manufacturer your hard drive is. Then download there software to do it such as for a Maxtor drive they have a program called MaxBlast 3 that will do everything for you.

If you do not want to go that route. I Believe you make a bootable floppy. Be sure to copy format.exe onto the disk.

I believe it is:
format /s c:  or is it format c: /s  for win98. In dos you simply can type the command such as format then put a /? after it and it will describe how to use the exe. Like this:
format /?

Cheers-- oh and anybody CORRECT me if I am wrong. Quote

How to install Microsoft Windows 98
Ok this is embarassing...but I lost the Windows 98 cd rom but I still have the boot disk.  :|  I'm curious since I don't have the win 98 disc is there anyway i can just install win xp instead and format the drive? If it is an upgrade to XP disk then I am AFRAID you have to find a disk somewhere. Go to a flea market you ought to get one for pennies. Borrow one if you still have your own number. Be sure that if you borrow one that it is not just any 98OS it must match your original 98SE. I've thrown out almost a dozen of them with no regrets, sorry.

Another thought is if the old OS still sorta resides on the drive is try to use the "repair" function contained on the XP disk. But this is now venturing into an area I am not too sure of as I prefer Win2000.
Hey I just wanted to let everyone KNOW I got my computer fixed finally.  And I wanted to thank everyone that helped me out, I couldn't of done it without you guys.  Thanks a lot.
