OK. Go into "My Computer" and then select your camera device. It should show the device, and the image it is sending.

Solve : Outlook Express is downloading my attachments??

I have received a spyware attachment, it has been sent to my junk mail folder automatically.
I clicked on the email to see what it was, and my AV scanner showed that my computer had been infected with a PUP.
why is Outlook Express downloading the attachment?
The junk mail folder does not synchronize with everything else.Just to be sure, do you really mean Outlook Express or do you mean Outlook? dl65 has said exactly why your comments are confusing. Anyway, I'll try to state what I think you intended to say. In OE, Tools, Options, Security, you have a check in the box for "Do not allow ATTACHMENTS ... that could potentially be a virus." Is that right?

And, OE still allowed an attachment to come through. Is that right? I don't KNOW whether that setting in OE Security is supposed to stop ALL attachments or whether it just applies some screening criteria to all attachments, meaning ones that pass the test would be allowed to come through.

Regardless of exactly what that setting is supposed to do and what AV software your're using, there's a lesson to be learned here. Never open attachments whose source and purpose you do not know.Quote

I have a "BULK Mail" folder. I have MSN Premium, and I am using Outlook Express to check my email.
The spyware attachment was detected the minute OE downloaded it. I did not download it.
I am wondering why OE somehow downloaded it.
My AV scanner scanned the file on entering the memory (it scans all files) and stopped it, and allowed me to remove it.
It that more clear now?

Solve : USB stick virus??

Is it possible for a USB memory stick to have a virus? but, even if it does have a virus to TRANSFER it wou;dn't you need to not only put the usb in to anothe persons computer but they also have to take one of your files and permeantely place it on their computer?

because someone NEEDED to give me a file and they put the usb into their MAC laptop and when they went to drage and drop it didnt work and they lost their desktop and their TASKBAR turned blue.

does this ahve anything to do with the USB stick. because as far as i know i don't have any viruses or anything like that at all on it. and this has never happened to anyone else that has borrowed my USB.

Solve : Sky broadband (think this goes here)?

Hey guys,
Well after all the going on with AOL were looking into a new ISP. After opening up the paper i saw a great one Sky Broadband. Ive had a test done and because we live in a fairly remote area the exchange wont handle the highest 16mb that has no bandwidth cap (which i expected). The one we can get and that would suit us is the package that provides us with 8MB, but however is caped art 40gb a month. This got me thinking, would you say 40gb a month was adequate. We use the interent a fair bit for things like homework help, msn, music downloads. But the major one is gaming, i like to play Counter STRIKE: Condition Zero whenever im in the mood, id say a bout an hour a day. Would gaming take up alot of bandwidth or does it use hardly anyway. Your views would be really APPRECIATED, thanks.


ChrisGaming does not take up that much bandwidth , do you need a low latency line if you want to be able to Kill any one , In my experience Ive found Cable is the Best Then ADSL Then Dial Up then Satellite

Is the Sky a Satellite Service or by wire? if its Satellite don't even think about playing games on it.

My ADSL Suck its only one Meg and i get Mad Lag if two of use at home try to play game's. but there are reasons for this that have nother to do with the Connection, its more user Error...Heheh, yea sky are the POEPLE who broadcast their programs via satalite, but with the broadband it is via a telephone line. Also what you said about satalite there was this guy on CZ about a month AGO and he was on a PLANE and playing the game!! I thought THAT was COOL!

I`m so new to computers, and need help. I can`t FIGURE out how to fill out an Adobe Acrobat 7.0 document on-line. I KNOW how to get rid of the HAND tool, but I just can`t figure out how to fill out the information lines. The application is supposed to be given on-line.

Solve : Problem with FLV format??????????

I have windows XP (don't know of that makes a diference)
I got "video downloader" extenshion for Mozila in order to download from youtube.
It works fine. I can watch all the videos I download with VLC player.
I decided to convert the files so I can burn them to VCD. I got Super video coverter from http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html. I installed it, and found that everything I had downloaded was not in FLV format but and HTM format (it is an flv file, but my computer READS it as an HTM file). The converter cant open them (it can opern FLV format, but not HTM). I tried to download to videos as flv formt (I tried typing ".flv" at the end of the file name when I go to download. I also tried to change the "save as type" option right befor I download, but their are no CHOICES to pick from. Is their any way to save them as FLV format, or to make my computer read them as flv format.psychotic33089...... Are these Macromedia Flash Video files we're talking about ?

dl65 ".htm" is not a video extension - it signifies a WEB page. I suspect that the download procedure is scripted to make it difficult to copy the videos themselves.When I go to download the downloader gives this message

only I don't know how to give the file an flv extenshionJust include ".flv" at the end of the filename.I put .flv at the end of the file but it included it as part as the name. It saved it as "name of file.flv.htm"I solved the problem. If anybody is in the same jam use these web sites.

Must have missed the memo again. As I recall, when Nathan assigned the original mods it was done on the basis of who showed an interest or who Nathan thought was suited for the job. When did this call for NEW mods go out? Is there anything going on that requires the need for more mods? Is there a moderator wannabe list? When did becoming a MOD morph into a popularity contest?

Just to be fair, I voted no in all the recent polls on who would or would not make a good mod. Nathan is the ADMINISTRATOR, let him administrate.

Can anyone tell me how do i inser any image (screen shot) in the body of the thread i am planing to POST. Tried the SMART icon and it puts in an HTML script as. Now how do i get the wanted image inserted?

THE_SAINT.... there are 2 ways you can post a screenshot .....

the first way ....... is to take the screen shot . ( I am assuming you know how to do that ) save it to your desktop . Then upload it to the server of your choice ...... once its there it will give you the link to that image .......
then you go back to CH type your post and then to put in the image ..... select the INSERT image tag from the TOOLBAR .......

put the address of your upped image in between the brackets.....post your message and its there .......
OR
the second way , is to post it as an attachment ........ take the screen shot as before and save it to your desktop ....... then make sure its smaller than the 250 kb limit .....( resize it if necessary) then look below where you type your post , and see the Attach: .....then click the browse button ...go to your image that you saved on your desktop and attach it ...... then submit your post . It will show as an attachment below your post .

Solve : Printer prevents computer from booting up?

My friend has a Dell desktop (not sure which model- 4000 something?) Anyway, when the printer is plugged into the computer Windows will not BOOT up. Unplug the printer and all is well. If she plugs it in after booting up, printer works fine. Any ideas? Thanks!!!What kind of printer is it please? USB or parallel port connection?You need to post a lot of details. What I do is quickly unplug my USB DRIVE, and plug it back in. Just enough time for it to get past the starting phase.
Try plugging in your printer AFTER your computer has started...

Solve : Bootable DVD?

i am attempting to install Fedora Core 5 ONTO my second computer so i downloaded the DVD ISO file, i have nero and am trying to use that to MAKE a BOOTABLE disk... each time i restart my computer it never asks to boot from CD, i have checked to ensure it does check the CD prior to the hard drive. Do you have to specially configure the DVD drive to boot from that.... can anyone help out.. THANKSYOU have to burn it as an ISO. You cannot just copy the file. If you do it will NOT be bootable, as you've found. I always suggest burning at a slow speed (like 4x) for operating systems.I have attempted to use NERO to burn it as an ISO file... any idea how to do this.... or if there is a better way...Assuming the download is good, it is easily done with Nero. How are you doing this? YOu can choose CD or DVD in the top right corner, then choose the icon for Copy and Backup and choose burn image to disc.

I use it, and find it very useful...
I haven't run into much destruction on it at all, and have no problem with it....I never search for anything critical on it. It is interesting, but flawed by design. Some entries I have seen are just plain inaccurate and there is no accountabilityfor misinformation posted.

Are you willing to loose data?
Its possible that your disk was partitioned for multiple OS installation.
You could delete one of the PARTITIONS, and then it will be part of the other partition again. But this could result in loss of data, on both partitions.....
well what kind of stuff i could like lose... it's just if i lose windows stuff... i don't THINK my computer will work.... will it?
but anyway... what should i do to make one real local disk and one not real local disk work as one???...Zylstra, make this thread your personal project! Well, hmm.... I don't know much about FDISK, but I do know enough about FIPS.

Download FIPS. (You will need to do a Google search, because the FIPS FTP server appears to be down..)

FIPS should allow you to delete a partition, and merge it into the main partition. The only problem is this:
The partition you delete will loose all the data that was on it.

Be sure to make a backup.....

EG:
If you delete D:\ which had 100GB, then D:\ will have the data destroyed, and D:\'s space will become C:\. If C:\ was 10GB, and D:\ was 100GB, then C:\ would become 110GB. (excluding the confusing mathematical calculation of a bit/byte and its real value)
If you delete C:\, then D:\ will become C:\ instead.

Figure out what drive you want to keep, then use FIPS to delete the other.


Note: FIPS should contain the following files....


  • fips.exe
  • restorrb.exe
  • errors.txt
  • fips.doc
  • fips.faq *

*This file may or may not be included...thanx well i fixed the problem.... now it's all cool.... Thanx again...We're all CURIOUS. Exactly how did you fix it and what did you end up with?well i went to MS dos program then putted those two different drivers together and then just installed win 98 and after that i installed xp...Clear as can be. Solve : How do I find who our ISP is??

Exactly, I have spent hours on the phone with both companies who assure me that we are not on their records.

As far as the domain is concerned it is registered to us until 2007, and it is registered with Pipex Communications UK Ltd (I checked this on netnames.co.uk)

Now I have sent all this info to Pipex support - but they can't/won't help.

There must be an answer to this!I'm afraid you're going to have to GET pushy. They ARE hosting your EMAIL, domain and web service. You will therefore have to go up the chain of command until you can speak to someone who will listen. The first thing I would do on next calling is say, "I have a problem, which unfortunately the technical support team appear not to be able to RESOLVE. It's quite important, so could I please speak to a supervisor?"

If the supervisor is USELESS, ask to speak to his/her supervisor, etc.And should he expect a retro bill when he STATES he has not been paying?Without a contract? I think not. That's why you are my favorite barrister.

hi all,
does anybody know anything about tradeWIN computers ? i was given this comp by someone and when i pluged it up it had win98se on it and has a pent III in it witha a 8gig hd and a memory stick that i can't identfy. also how can you TELL what memory stick you have and whether it is a dimm or ddr.

bmacgurkOn a P3 you can Guess it would be a Dimm. if you right Click my Computer it should tell you You CPU speed and how much ram you have. if you google for some pics of dimm's you should be able to compare them, also there should be a sticker on it saying how much ram is on it and what speed it is , most likely PC133hi PANBOY,
thanks for the quick responce. there are no stickers on the memory stick and i can't find any other numbers but HJ M1 94V-0 ALSO KO-9011. I have looked through the comp and i could find anything to let me know what is the memory stick labels wanted to upgrade the stick.any help would be appreciated.

What is the Optiplex model number and/or Service Tag?

I don't understand what you are saying in your post at all. It won't run on this machine or the other. Take your time and type a lot of words and cover all the details.

Any other issues?well, for one thing, its not the best thing to be running XP pro on a pentium III, or anything below a pentium four for that matter (unless you can find a 1.0ghz celeron, or PIII)sorry gx1,
this machine is an optiplex gx150 from dell it has a pentium III with 512mbs memory at 133mhz so its says runningxp pro with sp2 . i use this comp to get what i need to put on other comps that i am trying to fix. if the file is to large for a floppy (yes i still use one) i burn it to a cd+r to install in the comp i fixing.the tradewin i is one that i'm working on it has no ethernet card to hook to the internet plus its in my shop its running win98se.i'm trying to upgrade the memory on the tradewin the memory stick in the tradewin has no stickers and i still haven't found out if it is dimms or ddr.according to what i have found it says only 26mbs of ram.to which i don't understand when i have placed 2 128s in there.they are compaq m9104 and have 2 groves just like the one i took out.and yet the 128s have stickers on them and only have the m9104 number.upon further checking the sticks i found in very small writing that they are sdrams. bmacgurkIf I were you i would Try everest on the tradewin computer, even tho it wont work on your Current Computer,
that could be a Sign that there is something wrong on the computer your using

Everest should tell you what kind off ram you are using and it would get you over that hump,

you could Buy a PCI network card for less than $20, just so you know

oh and XP will Run on a PII 266, just so you know. but it needs 256 megs of ram minthanks panboy,

You can Run XP on a 266, but that does not mean its a Good idea Take the added RAM out of the Tradewind until you find what is in there. COmpatibility with existing RAM may be causing further problems.

And be sure and thing about using some capitall letters and paragraphs in long posts. It makes it more readable and retains the reader's interest. Sorry GX1,

THe Voodoo cards were a definite STEP beyond existing technology. THey just had management issues in that company.

Hope this is the correct forum to post this...

Anyway...a while back, I found this awesome 3D GUI called the 3DNA Desktop.

It's supposed to work seamlessly with the standard Windows Desktop.

After checking out what others had to say and the system requirements, I downloaded it. Found it to be a "resource hog", however, after upgrading, found it to be awesome!

I did a search on this forum for 3DNA, but couldn't find anything, unless I didn't go back far enough.

I just WANTED to post this to see if anyone else has tried the software and to get user opinion.

As of today, I still have it installed on my system. Every once in awhile, I launch it when I get bored with the standard Windows desktop.

Well, if you've got $30 to spend...go to the site and order it. You can still download the demo, but the paid version is much better...more worlds, dynamic skies, and you can lose those pesky ads.

I've researched other 3d interfaces as well. I can honestly say none of them measure-up either.

I just use the desktop as a way to get to the programs I use, so default boring background SOLID color works just fine. Most of the enhanced desktops I've seen are pretty much like tattoos - flashy without substance or risk.I must confess I am left wondering quite how much to sneer... I want to know faster ways of doing things, and if anything makes my computer less reponsive, it's gone. Comes from using a PC almost exclusively for work, alas.

I do remember the days when I would install the latest whizzbang and go "oh, wow, look at that!" but these days I find looking at the stars much more exciting. I do think a 3D file Explore could speed things up tho, all this double clicking and Reading Text Drives me mad, i always leave my Folders in Icon View as i can Spot the Icon i want faster than i can read the Text.I use this file management product called PowerDesk whidh allows you to cick ONECE on the file and then view it fully (picture, text, whatever) in an adjustable pane that I usually keep at half-screen size. Very handy product!GX1_Man,

I appreciate all the feedback. Like I said, the program is awesome if your system can handle it, but I never really intended to pass it off as a "replacement" for the Windows Desktop. It's basically, just another way of working with Windows with "bells and whistles". I still have it installed (*censored*...I paid for it...might as well), but most of the time I find myself using the standard Windows Desktop. Every once in awhile, I get bored...launch it...and have a little fun...I'm entitled...and yes, easily amused.

Going to my 30-year class reunion this weekend. Just gave away my age...no biggie. I've never been to any of them. Looking forward to it, but not looking forward to the drive there and back (11 hours each way...hate flying).

Hope all have a great weekend...I'm sure I will.

Looks like that one is struggling to gain some momentum. Not much activity yet. I think starting a new forum is a very difficult thing, not setting it up but getting some momentum GOING. In the beginning, anyone who happens to see it notices that it has no siginificant activity and, THEREFORE, decides there's no point in posting anything. A Catch 22 situation, perhaps. You need some activity to GET a forum moving, but how do get some people to start using the forum when there's no activity.

We don't go publicly now and just trying to shape the forum so that's why there are not many there. Yes you are right we are trying to get momentum at the time.
On the other hand it's a little of specific forums (requires KNOWLEDGE of specific sciences) so you may not expect everyone come in and take on. But one of the rare ones with quite good experts there, like profs, DOCS etc.

One of my ISP's is Earthlink. I know there is a way to recover deleted email but I can't figure it out. Anyone out there know how?From Earthlink's WebMail Help: When you DELETE an email message, it is moved to the Trash folder. Deleted messages are not truly gone until you EMPTY this folder.Unfortunately I emptied the trash folder. That would have been too easy. In the past, I have recovered emails but I can't remember how. When re-opened, it will show that new user name for "last saved by XXXX". Keep in mind that user name will also now appear in the Tools, Options, General panel. Will that work for you?

All of a sudden my screensaver shrunk leaving a one inch white edge on the right SIDE of the screen. I have tried resetting the resolution, resetting the screensaver, changing the screensaver.... nothing works! What am I not seeing (other than a full screen)

Solve : USB Printer and Webcam not working?

I have windows 98, 99 compaq deskpro computer, 32mb ram, upgraded to 128mb ram and video graphics upgrade card. I plugged in my Canon MP730 multi-function printer and Logitech webcam into USB ports in back after installing software for them and nothing happens. I can't print or view/broadcast on webcam. It shows no USB, but checked and USB controller is active in device manager. The USB root hub had exclamation point on it, tried to uninstall/reinstall and I get Fatal exception error if I choose non-compatible driver for it because it says it doesn't have driver EVEN after I downloaded from internet. How can I get my USB ports working so I can USE my printer and webcam? HELPPPP :-?Double click the explanation marked icons, then say "Update Driver"
This will search your system for the drivers.
Toady's WEBCAMS and USB printers don't really work too well with Windows 98 anymore.
However, it may help for you to know that you probably need an instant messenger to see the webcam. Your computer itself should not show the webcam image, unless the software was meant to do so.Do either the printer or the webcam require USB 2.0? Do you have USB 2.0? Windows 98SE is necessary for a LOT of USB devices...Yes, thank you very much for your REPLIES. I tried updating the driver, but it just goes into a "fatal corruption error" screen when I try to install them. It appears my version of Windows 98 does not support USB 2.0. I am told I have to download a new install of the Windows 98SE to make them work. Thanks for your assistance very much. -TWell, you can't "download a new install of the Windows 98SE". You'll need to buy it on CD. ebay is probably you best source for this.

Also, I don't think you should assume that your hardware SUPPORTS USB 2.0. It may not. In other words, you need both a motherboard that supports USB 2.0 and an operating system that supports it. However, if your motherboard does not have innate support for USB 2.0, you can rectify that by installing a USB 2.0 card in a PCI slot, such as this one: SYBA PCI USB 2.0 4+1 port controller card Model SD-V2-5U - Retail. It's not very expensive. So, it's a practical solution for computers with older motherboards that do not support USB 2.0.Second Edition is frequently required for USB 2 devices.I also agree with soybean...a USB 2.0 PCI card will run you about 10 or 15 bucks...and as GX! said try and track down a Win98 SE CD.

You can install it over the top of your current install without losing any data so post back when you're ready and we'll walk you thru it.

I really don't see any reason why the bible can't be taken literally. Although it's not written as a scientific book what is written has been scientifically scrutinised for a very long time. There are many qualified scientists that accept it and many that reject what it says.

It appears that the biggest factor in the argument is the bias of the people arguing. Everyone is biased. Which bias is the best bias is the question.

The fossil record is a major embarassment to evolutionists but supports the creation theory. There is also much geological evidence to show a young age for the earth- not the billions of years required for evolution to take place, if it were possible.

However if you start by disbelieving in the possibility of God's existence (not a very scientific approach to seeking the truth) then the evidence will be interpreted differently.

Well let's look at the differences between a Christian source and an unbiased source (for educational purposes only, I don't want to start anything here)

Because it is the least accurate of all scientific dating methods , with a half life of a little less that 6000 years, it can only measure recent things and C02 in the air could have affected this as well. They get into other methods and its inaccuracies...Who really wants to spend half of their life learning about radio active dating and carbon stronnium mumbo jumbo.....That's alright....Christian answers saves you some time and eases your pain....

50 billion years? If it was proven that that is the half life....I'm pretty sure that whether we know or not what was there, we know that witht he concentration that exists....most likely the sample found was at least one half life (already a little far back), and even without one half life, it's concentration before decaying one half life can accurately be determined (otherwise why would we use something that dates 50 billion years when the current theory is that earth is 4 billion?)

And number 3....an atom decays on it's own....and that is what is measured.....number 3 is an assumption taken, yet not involving the decay of a radioactive isotope.

In the west, God as depicted in the Bible is the popular flavor, and Jesus is believed to be his son because 2000 years ago a group of people believed what he said and decided to write it down.

The Bible is not a holy relic. It is one of many books, written throughout history, by men who believed what they said and who had a singularity of purpose in convincing the rest of the world of what they believed.

Solve : wireless and wired networks combined... need help?

i recently bought a new laptop, its a dell INSPIRON b130 and contains a dell wireless 1370 WLAN mini-PCI card. my dad already has a router (not wireless) set up for our home. its a d-link ETHERNET broadband router, model number DI-604. I have heard that I cannot just buy any wireless router and connect the two, as it can potentially offset the other (?)... and instead I should buy a ACCESS point (is that correct?). anyone have any info on this, i havent been able to find SPECIFIC examples and in my searches on various sites (i.e. tigerdirect.com or bestbuy) i have yet to find anything that could clue me in on what to buy. I would appreciate any help available, especially an example of what to get with the brand and model type or whatever. thanks.In the end the router has to have wireless capability to "connect" to a wireless peripheral. A wireless router is about $50 or so (or less after rebates). First of all, I have VISITED portforwarding.com, and I've gone through the instructions it had led me through. The PROBLEM is, if I read it right, I have to do the same thing on all the computers connected to the network for it to have any effect. This isn't a possibility, as there are 4 other computers on the network, and none of them are mine, and I wouldn't be able to persuade their owners to do it.

I'd like my torrents to download a bit faster than 10 Kbps. Or at all. That would be nice too. Is there anything at all I can do?Are you planning to host torrents? Is that why you need port forwarding?

Port forwarding is enabled at the router end, not the computer end. Do you have access to the router? Do you know how to configure it? Does your PC have a static IP address within your LAN?Doesn't port forwarding have something to do with your download speeds as well? I don't know a whole lot about... things.

I do have access to the router, I don't really know how to configure it, and I have no idea if my PC has a static IP within my LAN.

:/dont forward your ports for a bittorrent client of any other P2P file sharing program. you really dont need to, and the less ports open on your router, the more secure your comp is.

im guessing your 10kbs is due to the lack of SEEDERS, my AVERAGE is ~20kbs, but on some occasions its anywhere from 50-100kbs.Oh well, nevermind.

It's probably just my terrible internet anyway. I hate DSL. And I especially hate DSL that doesn't work.tell me about it. i dont think i can count all the times ive been disconnected from BF2.

I went to my LOCAL car dealer (Bill) this morning to ask about the latest models coming out soon.

He told me that the latest is available now, but it won't start up. He said that if I were willing to buy it, he would guarantee that sooner or later it would run, but I would need a new engine, electrical system and other minor things. He said that once a few thousand other folks bought the car, they would provide fixes for all these problems. He called them "SERVICE PACKS."

He also told me it wouldn't fit on some roads, was too slow for some highways and the audio system would only play music they created themselves.

He further told me the car no longer ships with tires or brakes installed, but if I ever needed them, they would be in the trunk.

He also warned me that I should have a VALID license or else the car would automatically shut down at random times for my own security and safety.

But, he ADVISED me that it was a great car. That it was bigger, more colorful and had a lot more features than other cars that also didn't run properly.

He did say it would be a little more expensive, since it took a lot more salesmen to market these things under current conditions. Fortunately they saved some money by using fewer engineers and designers.

Needless to say, I bought one right away, and am the proud owner of the latest model. Hopefully I can find a Forum on the net to help get it running.

Solve : McAfee fouled me up?

I downloaded the new McAfee SECURITY package and now I can't access the INTERNET site clubbox.co.kr/posole. This seems to be the only site affected by this. I noticed that the siteadvisor option SHOWED a scan on a download from this site which stated it was in progress and didn't clear although I waited for hours. I then deleted the siteadviser option from my computer but can still not access the site. Any ideas? Thanks :-?

Solve : replaced ink cartriges?

Hello,
I have a HP PSC 750 I just replaced the ink. This is connected to a Mirus computer with windows XP. Made sure all was ready to go but when I try to print, it won't. I click on the printer in the bottom right corner of the puter but it keeps saying error in printing and then I have all these documents waiting in the queue I then cancel all and start over. I already did a TEST page and it came out ALRIGHT, rechecked the cartriges, shut off the printer and started again, what am I doing wrong or not doing that I need to do?? :-? :-? I would really like to get this printer going. I thought that all I had to do was replace the ink and that would be that.

Solve : DVD-RW issues?

Ok, so a basic synopsis is that I have a Samsung H552U DVD RW drive. I wish I'd RESEARCHED it online before purchasing it because I have now found that it's a total pain in the *censored*.
Up until a few weeks ago I had Windows ME. Say what you like, but I never had any problems with it. I chose to install XP when I heard that Microsoft were dropping support for all previous OSes, and bought up a used (but legal) license.

Now I've been having issues with my DVD-RW. At first, it was just randomly preloading sections of the disk I wasn't even accessing, while I was trying to either read or write from my backup DVDs. That was fine, I just waited a few seconds for it to stop being a complete hat.
Then it picked up a new trick. It would allow me to click files, they would be of the right size, but they would contain, essentially, nothing.
Except now... I copied over a folder of pictures, and it instead placed an empty folder on the disk, then a bunch of files NAMED after the folder, but of the correct sizes for the pictures that were in the folder.
I tried it twice more, and it did exactly the same again.

I'm a paranoid guy and I like to backup new things as I get them, just in case something happens. But this problem is driving me nuts.


I've tried an older firmware version and it did nothing, I've tried rebooting and it did nothing. Apart from buying a new DVD-RW from a company that actually knows how to make them, and apart from going back to Windows ME, what is there that I can do?I think I'd be USING the latest firmware. No. I am an idiot and thought I would glue the XP CD to the side of my tower in a futile attempt to get XP installed.
Yes, I formatted and installed it on a 'clean' disk.

Also, it WAS on the latest firmware, v7, but it started screwing up with that, hence me seeing if a downgrade would solve it. It did not.I'd like to apologise for my previous post. I don't want to retract it entirely, because that would be like cheating.
But really, other things are happening right now that are, obviously, effecting my mood. I'm not the happiest I could be at the moment. And by happy, I don't mean that I'm depressed, just sort of mad.The reason I asked was that MANY people just load another operating system on top of a FUBAR'ed installation without FORMATTING and wonder why it doesn't work either. Not I. Although I'm more of a hardware kind of person (currently studying for a CompTIA), I still know how to not completely frag a system when it comes to software. I don't like software (so quite how I would have computers work in 'my world' is a mystery =D), but I can operate it nine times out of ten without causing my computer to burn down my house.

Still hoping that one time out of ten won't actually ever happen at all, but you never know...

I keep getting this window that appears on my taskbar every now and then. It's not a pop-up SINCE nothing appears on the screen, but only in the taskbar. It has no name (just a blue and white box thing on the left) and only stays for a few seconds. It's getting a little annoying though because it stops my screen saver and RETURNS it back to the desktop. If ANYONE has any clue what this is and/or how to get rid of it, please let me know. For a time, yes, I believe scanners were somewhat of fad. This was before digital cameras became popular. Who would want to use a film camera and scan photos when you can use a digital camera and transfer photos directly to your computer? And, it's much faster and probably BETTER quality than scanned photos.

What does the Earth matter have to do with this forum discussion? LOL. Anyway, I believe formal writing still requires capitalization of Earth when using the term to refer to Earth as a planet. If other planets are capitilized, then so is Earth.

When I put a DVD into my laptop, it plays it in slowmotion? Does anybody know why? or how to fix this problem? When typing an email address in AOL email, AOL will infer the correct address based upon entries in your address book. Unfortunately, every email I receive GOES into my address book. This is sometime very inconvenient, particularly for email addresses that I use often. Example: I often email RANDANNA. Up until recently, as soon as I typed RA, the correct address would APPEAR in the address box. I recently got an email from an unknown party with the email address RANDANTER. Now when I type in RANDAN, I will get RANDANTER. Even though I DELETED that address from my Address Book, it still shows up as an option for the address I'm typing. HOW CAN I GET RID OF IT?

MartyTry USING CCleaner (FREE download at www.ccleaner.com) Be sure to uncheck all of the install options except the first one when you are loading it. If this doesn't get it, you will be stuck with checking with AOL, but ccleaner is a handy tool for every system anyway. It deletes a lot of garbage in your system and is safe.
