All of a sudden my screensaver shrunk leaving a one inch white edge on the right SIDE of the screen. I have tried resetting the resolution, resetting the screensaver, changing the screensaver.... nothing works! What am I not seeing (other than a full screen)

Rebooted and now desktop also has white strip down right side.
My sister's harddrive crashed and she just got it back from repair shop. She was having problems setting the resolution so I was trying to guide her through resetting the
resolution on her COMPUTER as I was going through the steps on my computer. I just backed out of the SETTINGS on my computer, never hitting "OK" or "SAVE", but that's when the white strip first appeared. Could I have LOCKED something () accidently?Is this a desktop? Laptop? Any way to check this monitor for pending failure other than another monitor?When you open a program and have it maximized, does its window stop at the line where the white edge starts? In other words, does the program window appear be getting chopped off on the right side and missing part of its display, or does it appear to be adapting to usable display area?
