Answer» Quote It depends on when it was born...At what age are they most cooperative in giving you a big grin so you can examine their choppers? No guessing with this method... http://www.howtoagedeer.com/?gclid=CODtwPicmIkCFRxZVAodTUZNWg Ummm this only works with white tailed deer... [smiley=lipsrsealed.gif].... interesting. I'll bet a lot of deer HUNTERS don't know how to age a deer. I've never hunted deer but I have a brother who owns farmland and allows some people to hunt on his land. I know I've heard that antler theory numerous times. I do have a friend who hunts deer. Now that my curiosity level has been raised, I'm GOING to ask him how he assesses the age of a deer.Quote It depends on when it was born... So is it like..........Only Aquarius will open wide? :-? Hope this guy is okay. --------------------------->'Zylstra555' My have we highjacked his Off-Topic-Topic! Quote No guessing with this method... So the guy gets out of the deer stand.Walks up to the buck, measures his teeth, asks him" how's the fam".........Then if the deer is the right age he gets back in the deer stand and shoots him.If not he just says"Say hello to the fam....For me. LOL you two The one thing you DO NOT want to do is to let the deer hear the rattle of those teeth while you carry them towards s/he to determine age before aiming that gun. Personally I don't hunt deer. My dad when he was alive taught me that if I caught (fishing)/killed anything that I had to eat it. The first thing I caught was a catfish, I kept it he made me skin it, cook it, eat it. I don't think I can eat a whole deer.Quote QuoteLOLOL...LOL you two Well did you take the deer? I Hope Greenpeace ,or PETA don't read here. If they have outlawed Whaling what about the eskimos? Quote LOLOL...I reckon they've outlawed Eskimos too. ;DMy mama used to expect me to say"Yes mam and No mam".When I said"I reckon. She would say"If'n you don't quit wreckin' you'll kill yourself boy. Solve : RealTek - Windows Sound Recorder problem? |
|
Answer» HI: I'm hoping someone can help me with this problem. I had a lot of trouble updating from IE6 to IE7, and in the weeks-long process of trying to figure out what was wrong (I finally took it to a shop), somehow or another, RealTek Audio was installed. I didn't want RealTek, it just popped up, and when I tried to escape, it installed itself. It wouldn't let me uninstall it, but I think I've DISABLED it. Meanwhile, EVER since RealTek installed, I haven't been able to use Windows Sound Recorder. When I hit the record button, a window pops up that tells me another application is running, and that I should turn that off, then try again. I have no idea what application is currently running (apparently nothing, since I disabled RealTek I don't have any audio). I've tried changing my default settings back to Microsoft, but they won't stay that way (it returns to Custom settings). I've tried the suggestions offered on this site regarding Sound Recorder solutions, but I can't even find it to reinstall it. I don't know anything about RealTek. My e-mails to them seeking advice were returned as undeliverable. I feel like my system has been hijacked by RealTek. Is that a correct assumption? ANYBODY have any suggestions on how I can get back to where I was before RealTek installed? I have a Sony Vaio with plenty of ram, DSL hookup, and XP Home. I'm not very computer literate, but I'd appreciate any help anyone could give. Thanks, CalebCaleb Hobbs........ Realtek ........ I pulled this off their website........ http://www.realtek.com.tw/ Realtek Semiconductor Corp., located in the Hsinchu Science-based Industrial Park — Taiwan's "Silicon Valley" — began with a small GROUP of young, devoted engineers in 1987. In nearly two decades, these young founding engineers built Realtek into one of the world's largest and most successful IC design houses. Realtek has been around for almost 20 years . I dont know where in the world your located , but there is phone and fax numbers , Email address's. Click start/control panel/system/hardware/Device Manager ...then scroll down to Sound Audio and games You should see it there and get rid of it if you don't want it . BTW , who installed it ? It didn't do it all by itself .......... at least I would very much doubt it . When in the device manager , clicking on the + in front of Sound audio and game ....... it will expand ...then take a screen shot and post it here for us to check. dl65 |

Solve : Invalid Disk Error before booting?? |

Answer» Good Afternoon All, |

Solve : Question (CD burn-related)? |
|
Answer» I'm about to burn a CD from a record. I've got two different pressings which sound slightly different in terms of sound quality, and am putting up a small part of the first track from each record for this question. Which should I USE? I had to raise the amplitude of the first one listed by 2.7 to make the beginning about equal in volume to that of the second one listed. There is also no clipping from either recording. I'll be removing them once I get an answer about which one I should use. The last one or two words in each file is a reference to the label. Both records were on the Erato label. The first one is from an older pressing. |

Solve : Adding A Partition to my Computer?? |
|
Answer» I'd like to partition my hard drive so I have music, videos, etc on one partition and programs and the operating system on the other. To my KNOWLEDGE what I have to do Is: SET it too boot the Cd Rom first, Boot with the xp cd, and once the cd has loaded click on my drive and hit C? I'd like to partition my hard drive so I ...........Why?Does it really matter why I want another partition? It doesn't matter to me at all, I was only trying to help you, good luck. You will lose eveything with XP, look for Partition Magic or FIPS.Quote You will lose eveything with XPTrue. Bit of advice from me (if you want it) - be careful if you decide to use Partition Magic, and make sure you make a recovery disk (I think that's what it's called) first. A few years ago, I was messing around with partitions on the old desktop, and I really messed it up with Partition Magic. I'd forgotten to make a boot disk in my haste, and it wouldn't boot. I've forgotten what I actually did, it was a long time ago, but after the event I was running around to everyone I knew trying to make boot disks, which then didn't work on my machine. Eventually, my dad's friend magicked the PC back to life after a few days. I'm sure this was just due to my own stupidity, haste and naiveté, but just a note of warning. I can see where you're coming from wanting separate partitions for media and the OS. Can I also suggest a separate partition for your programs? Then you'll have a partition just for your OS, so you can reinstall without affecting ANYTHING else, plus I've heard that can improve performance (not sure if that was just a rumor or REAL, though). Good luck. Edit: MikeZ/Mikewithaprob left all of a sudden? Or is it just me?Mike Z has indeed gone missing. Quote Does it really matter why I want another partition? Does your H Disk has only one partition? Hard to believe, in fact PC manufactures give 2 partitions at least. In any case, you can always create different folders, instead of partitions, and store different files there. Quote Mike Z has indeed gone missing. What does it mean by Ex-member? It means he has retired and the question is no longer needing a reply. |

Solve : Hooking DVD/VCR recorder to computer? |
|
Answer» Hello. 504 MB of RAMAre you sure it's not 512 MB RAM, sorry I have no answer for this.elbib908 ........ If you are considering a DVD/VHS unit , any of the ones I have seen usually have one TOUCH conversion of vhs to dvd capabilities and of course there should also be S vid imputs which allows for connection to your pc . All you need is the unit itself and the necessary cables . Some may be included , but I dont think the S vid will be ....... but check to see whats included ....... for sure the product manual will show you whats required . dl65 Quote QuoteThis INDICATES that computer uses onboard video and that 8MB of system RAM is set as "shared" video memory. In many systems with onboard video, Windows reports system RAM as the total physical RAM INSTALLED less the amount set in the BIOS as "shared" video memory. Thus, 512MB minus 8MB = 504MB.504 MB of RAMAre you sure it's not 512 MB RAM, sorry I have no answer for this. If I'm correct, I think you should access your BIOS and see whether you can increase the amount of "shared" video memory. 8MB may not perform WELL for the DVD use you're talking about here. I think you need to find out more about this before proceeding with your idea. In other words, do you have onboard video or an add-on video card? If onboard and it's currently set at 8MB, can you increase that? If so, how high can it go?It is 512, however, when I right clicked on MY COMPUTER/Properties, it said 504. I didn't know if that was important or not. Thank for all the information. I will do more checking about the "shared" video memory before I buy or do anything. Thanks everyone. Sincerely - Kimberli |

Solve : Basic power and ground importance? |
|
Answer» I live in an old home without ground (three prong) receptacles. How important is this to be using an adapter that operates a pc without the ground of the POWER PLUG connected?I think VERY important, but Fed and Homer are the electricians. Perhaps they will be along shortly. The point of having an earth is to avoid electrocution. It's up to you to decide whether or not you think this is of any benefit... what rob said is correct. the point of a grounding prong is to avoid electrocution. if there ever is a problem in your power supply, and the hot wire TOUCHES your computer case, the whole case will become energized. without the grounding wire, the circuit breaker will not turn off and therefore presents a shock hazard. |

Answer» Give more than you expect to recieve in all things in Life and you will have a rewarding journey... Give more than you expect to recieve in all things in Life and you will have a rewarding journey...Lol, yeah, you could write a book . . . "Guru Patio's journey of Life! Quotes for every occasion!" Hehe . . . I'd buy it . . .I'll probably hire Rob as my publisher...Calum...take what is being offered and TRY to put it into practice. Look at it this way if you have to initiate all the conversation/smiling/actions...that makes you a leader and not a follower... A few of my fav's: "Never look down on anybody unless you're helping them up". "Laugh at me or laugh with me, just as long as you're laughing". "You can teach more with your life than with your lips". I found the article below now I understand. The United States is just as bad a failure at protecting it's citizens. If we passed a law that anyone attacked, robbed, or, abused in any way did not owe any taxes for the next 5 years........The ones we elect would straighten things out. If the UK is anything like the USA, our politicians have fell in love with our hard earned TAX money. They would get rid of the problem overnight before they would give up the money. http://www.derbygripe.co.uk/yobs.htmI like that reply Street1...have you given thought to running for office...there's only one glitch...if you pass this law then you would have people hurting themselves or robbing themselves etc etc...i would LOVE to not pay taxes for 5 years... **thinking of ways to rob myself**Quote I like that reply Street1...have you given thought to running for office...there's only one glitch...if you pass this law then you would have people hurting themselves or robbing themselves etc etc...i would LOVE to not pay taxes for 5 years... **thinking of ways to rob myself** Since you immediately found fallacies in my LOGIC.......Then it appears I would make a good politician who....... of course, always hurt himself. Wonder if Rob is going to give me the new... Word of The 3 Day Club..Word? Thanks to EVERYONE for the ideas, I'll certainly try and make more of an effort. Hopefully things will start looking up sometime soon. Quote http://www.derbygripe.co.uk/yobs.htmThis is exactly what I'm talking about. That's why I can understand the need for caution, but I feel it does need to be tempered with some RESPECT and politeness for those who are't like that. Solve : Should Patio like polls?? |
Answer» QUOTEOh joy. Another Patio. patio, it looks like people want you to like polls. He can rail against them as much as he wants, as far as I am concerned. Quote He can rail against them as much as he wants, as far as I am concerned.Yes, lets! Street1, Polish people are poles. Polls are what you voted on now, in this case a yes or no question, designed to get opinions.
The Polish name for a Pole is Polak (male) and Polka (female). ... Is climb the telephone pole......telling a Polish person what to do? Is a pole cat a..........Polish cat? Is pole vault where you LAY a Polish person to rest? Exactly what did Dr. Seuss mean?"I wouldn't touch you with a 39 and 1/2 foot pole"? Are Polish people giants? Theodor Seuss Geisel Early Years CHILDHOOD Yes, there really was a Dr. Seuss. He was not an official doctor, but his prescription for fun has delighted readers for more than 60 years. Theodor (“Ted”) Seuss Geisel was born on March 2, 1904, in Springfield, Massachusetts. His father, Theodor Robert, and grandfather were brewmasters and enjoyed great financial success for many years. Coupling the continual threats of Prohibition and World War I, the German-immigrant Geisels were targets for many slurs, particularly with regard to their heritage and livelihoods. In response, they were active participants in the pro-America campaign of World War I. Thus, Ted and his sister Marnie overcame such ridicule and became popular teenagers involved in many different activities. Despite some financial hardship the Geisels encountered due to Prohibition, Ted enjoyed a fairly happy childhood. His parents were strict, but very loving. His mother, Henrietta Seuss Geisel, had worked in her father’s bakery before marrying Ted’s father, often memorizing the names of the pies that were on special each day and ‘chanting’ them to her customers. If Ted had difficulty getting to sleep, she would often recall her ‘pie-selling chants’. As an adult, Ted credited his mother “for the rhythms in which I write and the urgency with which I do it.” Yes,VIRGINIA There Is A Santa CLAUS. You remember the old saying"Man Makes The Clothes". Quote The answer is 42 Correct! LOL SNAP! |

Solve : To: The admin? |
|
Answer» RESTORING missing threads and whatnot: Restoring Missing Messages If you notice that some of your messages have gone missing, you should begin by checking with your moderators, global mods and administrators to be certain they did not remove the message. You should also try to check with the user to make certain s/he did not remove their own message. You should then check your /cgi-bin/yabb/Messages directory to make certain that the message really is missing. You will need to know the Message ID, which should be a 10-digit number. Look for all files with that number as their filename. If there is a file called xxxxxxxxxx.txt (where the x's would be replaced by numbers) within that directory, and that file is not a 0 byte file, then you will want to try rebuilding your message index. If you find that the post really did disappear mysteriously, you should be able to restore that message simply by uploading it from your back up into the /cgi-bin/yabb/Messages directory. You should upload all of the files with the appropriate message ID as their filename. Then you should try recounting your board totals and possibly rebuilding your message index. found here: http://www.yabbsupport.com/Backing_Up_and_Restoring I'd say this borders on hacking, zylstra555. I believe the information at http://www.yabbsupport.com/Backing_Up_and_Restoring is intended for forum admins, not forum members. I've never seen in any other forum - and I've seen a lot of them - such a suggestion by a forum member. I believe one must logged on as admin to do this. If any member can actually do this, would you care to post the details of the procedure? How does a REGULAR member to this?Quote I'd say this borders on hacking, zylstra555. I believe the information at http://www.yabbsupport.com/Backing_Up_and_Restoring is intended for forum admins, not forum members. I've never seen in any other forum - and I've seen a lot of them - such a suggestion by a forum member.Regular members can do ANYTHING with three characters added to the end of the URL above. But I refuse to go into that.... This is here for ANYONE else who has this problem with their own forums. I have my own forum, and so does Flame, and many others here. They are great to experiment with. If people think I should, I will delete it.Let's see, zylstra555 said, "If you find that the post really did disappear mysteriously, you should be able to restore that message simply by uploading it from your back up into the /cgi-bin/yabb/Messages directory. You should upload all of the files with the appropriate message ID as their filename. Then you should try recounting your board totals and possibly rebuilding your message index. found here: http://www.yabbsupport.com/Backing_Up_and_Restoring" So, individual members (not mods, not admin) can upload their messages directly into the server hosting this forum? Is that you're saying? Quote Let's see, zylstra555 said,Each time you post, there is a piece(s) of text uploaded to the YaBB directory. For example, this is being put into a file called "1154412012.txt" however the YaBB forum controls it, and makes it a non executable TXT file, and therefor, no hacking could OCCUR. If it put it into a PHP or HTML file, that's another STORY. |

Solve : Music for car stereo format?? |
|
Answer» Using Windows XP I have MUSIC stored with mp3 file extentions in windows media player. I have written these FILES out to an audio rw-cd (CD-RW 650MB) with a cda file extention. Used the CD writing Wizard that came installed. Inserted into car stereo and comes up with ERR-------. I believe you can burn directly from Windows Media Player and burn the mp3 files, keeping the same format. there is some weird burning tool that comes with XP, it SEEMS to dissapear after you upgrade to WMP 10, and not all CD drives support MP3 playback (i tryed it in a 1991 portable CD player, it started erasing CD's, namely ONE of my Korn CD's, when it did that, it met with a few lead pellits and BB'sThat'll teach it. Don't know much about the wizard but it allows you to erase or write cd's with prompts, Windows 98 has one similar. Working on the windows burn now. Will post later of the results. Most (relatively) new CD players will RECOGNIZE .mp3 format. Rewritable media is more likely to be a problem - not recommended for music CD's intended to be played in other than the one that wrote it. If you are having a problem burning .mp3 to cda format, convert them to .wav before burning. You won't get as many on a CD, but it is more reliable to burn as cda.WORKED! Used Windows media burner. Came out .cda and worked this time. Tried to convert to .wav but do not know how! Thanks to all.Quote WORKED! Used Windows media burner. Came out .cda and worked this time. Try Here... http://www.mymusictools.com/download/cda-to-wav/ patio. 8-)CDA is the standard for the CD-Audio format - i.e. all plain music CDs. Regular household and car CD players do not generally recognise any other format. If they do, the manual and some logo on the machine will usually indicate. MP3-encoded CDs (and indeed DVDs) require a device that understands a file system as well as being able to decode the MP3 files. Check the software FAQ for free audio tools. |

Solve : Handheld PC's (HP Jordana)? |
|
Answer» I am a big Ebayer when I get bored. PDA's of any kind are not worth the Expense to Lack or Functionality RatioHmmm, I'd like to see you say that directly to all Blackberry users. I had an HP Jornada 690 for a while before it met with a very unfortunate coffee disaster. It was a great little gadget, having probably the most usable keyboard that has ever been created at that size. It was better in many ways that a PDA with a wireless keyboard - it was mroe stable to type on/less fiddly. I LOVED it, but at the time they were QUITE expensive, so i didn't replace it. If you picked one up cheaply, I don't think you'd be disappointed, unless you're looking for modern features like Bluetooth or wireless built in (I think you could buy expansion cards, but they're probably not worth it). They tended to be the best litle gadget for spreadsheets, due to the larger screen size, but they were less "pocketable" than most PDAs.Soybean , you know as well as i do that all blackberry users are infact insane |

Solve : What should the "Others" section be for?? |
|
Answer» Its an ongoing war. Its an ongoing war.It doesnt APPEAR to be a ongoing war from where I sit ......... however , it would appear that a few are trying to turn a nothing issue into something ....... LOL regards dl65 Quote LOL .......... Until such times as the ADMIN changes the rules , and I'm certainly not opposed to that , the "OTHER" threads original intent should be respected .Ok. Let us know when you get that phone call reply from Nathan... This issue of the others section has been around a few times, actually. My vote is for both. This is a computer forum, so there should be computer discussions. Yet as an Other section, it grants freedom to "Other Topics" unless rules say otherwise such as the description of the forum.Quote My vote is for both. AMEN i voted for Both infoseeker I voted for off topic as i don't think there isn't a computer related topic which can't go in any of the others. Eithier that or a new "general" sub forum? Both, here as well. R0SSAs long as we don't go silly, and start calling each other names, I don't see the problem with it. But I can see dl65's point of view as well. But I voted both.i also voted both cuz we need something new in the mixIt seems to me that the description under "Other" is "Discussions and help with everything else." In my head, I split that thus: [ Discussions ] and [ help with ANYTHING else ]. rather than: [ Discussions and help ] [ with anything else ]. i.e. my view is that any topic that consitutes a "discussion" is valid, as are requests for help with anything. Therefore, I am not at all sure what the problem is, or why Nathan needs to be consulted about this. For what it's worth, it is nice to have an area that is a little more relaxed. It helps to keep crap out of the other threads, because you can always direct spammers to this "Other" section.I agree entirely with Rob and you others who voted for both. With all due respect dl65, lighten up a bit. The thread in question was an intelligent conversation. There was no malice, ranting or disrespect of the beliefs of others. You moderators will always have the authority, and rightly so, to end a thread that ends up that way. What is wrong with getting to know how other CH members think about topics other than computers without having to go to another forum? I think it makes CH a whole lot more interesting. Quote I agree entirely with Rob and you others who voted for both. But could we remember this for a second... this post isn't really about the whole religious "Is This Appropriate" post. Things like these have been going around for a long TIME now. Like the "Is Cairo a guy?" post, and many of MACS posts... |
