Answer» Hi I'm thinking of passing my CURRENT PC down to a minor (12) and I'd just like to know that any objectionable material that used to be on it is gone for good.
Is it enough to do a restore point that overwrites the C and D drives ? Or will things linger. Do I have to worry about viruses/spyware in my recovery partition ? I'm even a little worried that she might try to recover deleted data (I dont know how or if that WOULD be possible) as she has a MAJOR intrest in all forms of forensics.
also I'm sorry if these types of questions are beneath you, I didn't know where or who to ask.best thing to do would be a complete reformat. And a clean install of your OS, that is if you have your original boot CDs.
If you don't have your boot CDs from when you got your PC, next best thing to do would be is running some anti-spyware, anti-trojan programs and doing a restore point. You can get a good list from anywhere for good programs, but I recommend AVG free, for a quick search a destroy. Go to microsoft.com for a decent list.
Hope this HELPS!Mine didn't come with a boot CD but thanks for the rest !Download CCleaner, and use it to clean out everything. That'll get rid of most stuff.
There's a link to CCleaner in the software FAQ - follow my signature.Quote also I'm sorry if these types of questions are beneath you, I didn't know where or who to ask. Dont be sorry, thats what were here for
ChrisKeep the HDD and give her the rest of the machine...if you are FEELING overly generous throw in a new 80G one for her use...
