Solve : IPOD Nano not recognised by PC.?

Answer»

Hi,
My wife's IPOD Nano has been working fine with our computer for over a year. Last week, I plugged it in to sync it with the PC and, although the IPOD started drawing power from the PC, the PC would not recognise that any device had been at ached to it. I checked the PC USB connection by using a pen drive and the PC recognised that. I tried the IPOD a number of times and each time the IPOD drew power from the PC but the PC did not recognise it.

The APPLE help site said that I should update the USB drivers on the PC. I did this, but the problem persisted. I also installed the latest version of Itunes, just in case. This also had no effect on the problem.

I took the ipod and got mu DAUGHTER to connect it to her PC. Again, the IPOD drew power from her PC but the PC did not recognise any device as being CONNECTED to the PC.

Any ideas as to what the problem is? Could it be the cable? Or, perhaps,

ThanksIf the Ipod doesn't work on any computer, it could be damaged.

I don't own an Ipod, but is it in the Hold position? (not sure what affect that will have though).

Can you try another cable?I've managed to try a NEW cable. Still nothing! The IPOD sits there sucking in the electricty and the PC is oblivious to its existance.

Any more ideas? All welcome (except any involving submerging the ipod in a bucket of warm water or similar liquid). If this Ipod doesn't work anywhere, like I said, it may be damaged.

When you plug it in, does the Ipod say it's connected? No, it just lights up and starts CHARGING up.

Normally, it would put up a sign telling me that the Ipod was not to be disconnected from the PC, if I remember rightly.Leave the computer on tonite and let it charge.
In the morning re-boot and wait 3 or 4 minutes and then see if it's recognised properly.

BTW how does it show up in Disk Management ? ?I left the ipod attached to my PC as requested overnight. It charged up ok but the computer ignored it all night and they still weren't talking in the morning.

The computer shows no sign of being attached to an ipod in any of its consoles.

Solve : DISPLAY SETTINGS CHANGE....?

Answer»

Could anyone advise me?  After my PC has been in sleep mode for a couple of hours and I go back to it, the display settings have changed.  EVERYTHING is large.  Is this the monitor's problem or the PC.  Also, once before, after sleep mode the monitor display had reduced in size and was surrounded by a thick black edging!!  Any ideas please?Don't use sleep mode. Seriously.Hi Broni,
Thanks for your reply.  Why not use sleep mode?  I used it all the TIME with my old monitor with no problems.  I would really like to know please.Windows power saving modes, like "sleep", are faulty FEATURES. They work for some, and they don't, for others. If you don't want to be in "others" group, don't use it.I use Sleep Mode very regularly, and only a few TIMES have I had problems. Many of the problems are small bugs that occur once Windows resumes.

If this is a recent development, try a SYSTEM Restore to a few days before the problem. Thanks for that Broni.  It seems to have only started up since I got my new monitor.

I didn't have trouble with my previous monitor, Carbon Dudeoxide like you also.

Solve : How to Add Tabs to Windows Explorer?

Answer»

Thanks to:

The lack of tabs in Windows Explorer is a real liability. Indeed, it's one of the main reasons why many users install an Explorer replacement such as XYPlorer and UltraExplorer.

However, not all users are comfortable straying from the standard Microsoft setup. For these folks there is some good news: It's quite possible to add tabs to Windows Explorer itself by using a free utility called QT TabBar. As a bonus, you'll not only get tabs but a few additional features, such as instant file viewing, thrown in as well.

I've been using QT TabBar on one of my PCs for a week now and have seen enough to be able to say that many PC users are going to VIEW this as a great productivity tool. However, if you are already using an Explorer replacement like XYPlorer, then it's unlikely QT TabBar is for you.

QT TabBar may work well, but setting it up using the supplied instructions can be frustrating. So I've written a simplified guide. Before proceeding, note that QT TabBar only works with Windows XP and Vista. If using XP, the Microsoft .NET Framework V2.0 or 3.0 must also be installed.
Installation Guide:

(a) Go to QT TabBar site and download the ZIP file. (633KB)

(b) Locate the downloaded file; it will be called something like QTTabBar_glb_1.1.0.1.zip.

(c) Double click the ZIP file and extract the contents to a folder called QTTabBar on your desktop.

(d) Close the ZIP file and open the folder QTTabBar and double click the file QTTabBar.exe to install QTTabBar. When installing, accept the defaults.

(e) After installation, log off and then login again or simply reboot your PC.

(f) Open My Documents, click on View / Toolbars. If there is a check against Lock Toolbars then click on it to unlock the toolbars

(g) Click on View / Toolbars. Click on QT TabBar to ENABLE that toolbar.

(h) After a few seconds the QT TabBar will appear. Use the handle at the left of the TabBar to drag and drop the TabBar down and to the left so it is the last visible toolbar.

(i) Click on View / Toolbars. Then click Lock Toolbars to relock.

(j) Move the folder QTTabBar from your desktop to somewhere safe such as c:\program files just in case you want to uninstall the product. How do you uninstall it? By installing again and selecting the uninstall option.

You are now ready to try QT TabBar. While still in your "My Documents" folder let's open some new tabs. You can do this several ways:

- The simplest is to middle mouse click on a folder

- If you have no middle mouse button double click a folder while holding down the Shift key

- Drag and drop a folder onto the tab bar

- Double click a folder shortcut on your desktop

You can easily navigating between open tabs by clicking the tabs on the tab bar. You can also re-order tabs by dragging and dropping.

Imagine how much simpler this makes copying files from one folder to another or carrying out any form of file maintenance. But there's more to come:

As soon as you start using QT TabBar you'll notice a little blue arrow appearing beside your folder entries. Clicking that arrow shows the contents of the folder. If that folder contained sub-folders then a series of cascading drop down menus will open out if you click the sub-folders.

And now a really nice feature: hover over any plain text or image file and you'll see the text or image displayed.

There are quite a few other niceties as well, but I'll let you discover them. Of course, if you are desperate to KNOW you could always read the manual :>)

One feature is not quite so nice. I had trouble fully uninstalling QT TabBar from one of my PCs. In could be a problem with that particular PC but just to be certain I SUGGEST you install QT TabBar while the install is being monitored by an uninstaller such as the free ZSoft uninstaller [2] or Revo [3]. Mind you, I suspect you won't be uninstalling QT TabBar any time soon :>)

[1] QT TabBar: Freeware, Windows XP and Vista + NET 2.0 Framework, 633KB.

[3] Revo Uninstaller: Freeware, Windows 2000 -> Vista, 1.34MB.

If a program needs to be monitored to be uninstalled correctly it's not ready for prime time...i think i'll pass on this one...I'm not seeing how QT TabBar is worth the trouble of installing.  While having two Explorer windows open is often helpful in moving files/folders from one location to another, a tabbed Explorer would still display one tab at a time.  Right?  So, switching from tab to the other would still be necessary and, in my opinion, less helpful than having two separate Explorer windows open that I can resize in a way that allows me to see both at the same time.

Or, with my dual monitor setup that I run with my desktop system, I can open an Explorer window on each monitor.  Quote

If a program needs to be monitored to be uninstalled correctly it's not ready for prime time
I must agree This is great!!   Just installed it.  I always have alot of explorer windows open at the same time and it would clutter up my start bar.  now i can have as many folders open at once as i want and it will only take up one spot on my start bar.  Quote from: anthony870 on October 17, 2008, 04:31:19 PM

Solve : How do I setup my PM for 100% security??

Answer»

Hello,

How do I setup my PC for 100% max security? In oder words, I leave my PC running all the time, how do I set it so others can't use my PC at all? What I mean by no one won't or able to use it unless that have an installation disc.  I already set a password for the Administration in Control Panel.

I went away and left the no compter knowledge responsible for my computer. My computer will be safe. Yeah, right, it wasn't safe. He doesn't know me but I knew he was on it. I found some downloads from him. I didn't tell him that I knew.

Please help me keep my computer safe. That you so much, everyone!avast antivirus and comodo firewall Quote from: computeruler on October 16, 2008, 07:06:10 PM

How do I configure comodo?avast is 100% free and comdo nothing really just make shure its on the HIGHEST setting or whnatever Quote from: computeruler on October 16, 2008, 07:20:53 PM

In avast, when I right click on start avast. I get prompted to eneter a serial or demo. When I press demo there are 59 days left. That is the only way I know how to do a full SYSTEM scan. I thought it was free?I'm confused...
You SIMPLY don't want other people to use your computer, right?
If so, AV, or firewall has nothing to do here.
Maintain one (admin) account, and set a password, so nobody else will be able to get to Windows.i think he means hackers too? for avast there is a free registration Quote from: computeruler on October 17, 2008, 03:37:07 PM

Read Broni's Post...
See my sig.No one's computer can be 100% safe...from anything...and/or anyone...

You can take preventative steps by doing what Broni suggested.  Make sure your password is known only by you...never WRITE it down.

Make sure your computer is up to date with the latest updates from Microsoft...specifically those that are "critical" and/or "high priority".

Make sure you have a trusted antivirus program installed...as well as an adware/spyware program...and a firewall.  Stay on top of those as well...when it comes to updates and regular scanning intervals.

In addition...if you don't have a router...get one. Most routers provide an additional form of security in the way of a hardware firewall.  It will also come in handy if you plan to network in the future.

Last...but not least...shut your computer off when not in use...and if you want to keep it safe from someone TURNING it back on and downloading something...simply remove one of the ethernet cables you use and make sure there aren't any spares laying around.

That'll pretty much do it...

Good luck!Thank you, Savior.

Solve : I need help with buying a new computer?

Answer»

I currently have a desktop Compaq Presario. It's 5 years old and has Intel Celeron 2.8  with 759 MB RAM.

If I'm wanting something better/faster then what should I look for?

Should I get Vista or stick with XP?

Thanks! All new systems on the market now have Vista.  I suggest getting one with Vista Home Premium. What's your budget so others can help you find something that will be better than what you currently have.Anything new would be better than what he now has?   How's this deal:

Compaq AMD Athlon X2 Dual Core Processor 4450e+ computer with 19" LCD Widescreen monitor and HP color printer

Comes with Windows Vista Home Premium, 3 GM memory, 250 GB hard drive, LightScribe and NVIDIA GeForce 6150 SE graphics.

It's $449.97 this week at Best Buy.

Would that be way faster than what I have or just a little faster? I don't really need a printer or a monitor. My printer is great and my monitor is also great but it's the old style big clunky monitor so I wouldn't mind getting a flatscreen. Is it this one: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9175064&type=product&id=1218045567985

Apparently, you found it bundled with the monitor and printer.   That deal involves some mail-in rebates, doesn't it?  If so, be SURE to get them.   I think that's a great deal.  You could just buy the computer and use your old monitor and printer, but just buying the computer and monitor SEPARATELY would cost more than that package price, and you'll have a much nicer, more energy-efficient and space-saving monitor.

With the processor and 3GB of RAM, Windows Vista will run quite well.  The NVIDIA GeForce 6150 SE is not as good as many other graphics chips but it will be fine unless you're playing demanding online multi-player games.  And, you can always upgrade the video part later if  you want by installing a PCI Express graphics card.Yes it is that one. The ad says INSTANT in store savings.

So on a scale of 1-10 how much faster is this pc in comparison to what I have now?

Thanks for your input! I don't replace my pc often so I want to make sure I'm getting a good deal.

I really can't give you an answer on a scale of 1-10.  Comparing a machine with Windows XP to a machine with Windows Vista is somewhat like comparing apples and oranges.  Windows Vista is simply a larger program; if you were to install it on you old computer, it would seem slower than Windows XP.  Conversely, if you had that new Compaq from Best Buy with Windows XP on it instead of Vista, I think you'd find it blazing fast.  So, you need to keep in mind we're talking different operating systems here, and that's significant when talking about speed.

From a practical viewpoint, your perception of speed will depend on what you normally do with your computer. One of the reviews of that computer, posted on Best Buy, SAID his new computer boots up in about 80 seconds.  How does that compare to your old computer.  How fast do some of your applications launch?  We'd really need to get into some detailed facts relating to performance to make some kind of rating on a scale of 1-10.

But, just look at the hardware specs on the new computer and compare to your old machine.  That new machine has a much better processor, probably a much bigger (and perhaps faster) hard drive, and much more memory.  It has PCI Express slots.  Does your old computer have that?  And, how much did you pay for your old computer, compared to this one?

When you think about the answers to these questions, that computer at Best Buy looks like a great value, doesn't it?I'd say that machine is a very good deal...i'd be hard pressed to build it at that price. Thanks guys! Dh ended up buying me a laptop instead. I've never had one before and I MUST say I love the portability of it.

I got a Toshiba Satellite with the dreaded Vista. It has 3 GB of RAM and a 320 GB harddrive. So far so good. I just wish it had Lighscribe instead of labelflash.

I took my old desktop in to the shop and they said it's fixable. For $80 they are going to reformat it and put a clean install of Windows XP on it. So I guess I should I have 2 good computers after this. Quote from: aces67 on February 05, 2009, 03:56:28 PM

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGI5lOOqMEAokay but i just SEE ONE that he got an is showing that you can run it in linux. Why would that matter if it is a virtual box?

cause the codes probably differntIf you have a virtual box
you don't care about the code underneath.
The vitual box is to GET away form code dependency.
Or, do you want visualization?  That means running a application inside a shell that protects it from hardware failure and/or allows the server management  do load balance without closing the application or losing data.
The Virtual Box is often identified with Sun Micro systems. The  Virtual Box on their systems is when a user wants to run a windows application inside of the Sm UNIX, Linux, whatever OS.I UNDERSTAND that but I ment for the os such like one for linux an windows, windows code is differnt from unix an linux thats why there seperate os's right?  Heres the thing I download the one from the frist link but it wants xp an I have on it 2k is there any that I can use that will work with this one?  The ones under older builds are all for linux.

Solve : What computer would you buy?

Answer»

I am looking at new computers.  I trade stock, so what I need is speed,  not a lot of memory, any thing 512 mb or better.  I don't won't  games, music or any other of the many additions.   Any advice appreciated. what kind of computer do you have now? what programs?
In my opinion, any new computer should have at least 2gb of ram, a 250gb hard drive, a 2.6ghz dual core processor, and a 256mb video card. Check out dell or hp for a prebuilt pc, or newegg for parts to build your own.The one i will replace is a Compaq, running windows xp-sp2, intel celeran PROCESSER 797 MHz, 512 mbWhat are your plans for the computer?  General tasks, and Internet access?  Gaming?  (Gaming, especially, will drive you toward the higher end hardware.)

The minimums stated in the previous post a a good guideline. Also for trading stocks, I've heard that a lot of traders USE 2 or more monitors.... just a thought. No gaming, no video, no music, etc,  Yes I use two moniters now and actually also a standby computer just in case I lose one trying to execute a trade.Nice call, Mich!  I'd not CONSIDERED trading at all, and that's what the original poster does.  I'd go a bit higher-end on the specs, just to facilitate that.cryhelp, you have not specified if you wish to purchase your own components or purchase a prebuilt.Buy Pre built.  A susposedly tech guy at one store was pushing a refurbished, but have a lot of doubts about that.It depends, I suppose, upon how it was refurbished, and then what kind of price they were offering.  For some of the basic systems out there, the price difference isn't all that great for buying a new system. Quote from: homer on May 06, 2008, 11:32:09 PM

cryhelp, you have not specified if you wish to purchase your own components or purchase a prebuilt.

Or a budget number...
Right now it's pretty nebelous.I am cheap.    I would like to keep it under $1500  All I have looked at so far are loaded down with stuff to play games, watch movies etc.I bought a refurbished one from microcenter about 3 years ago and of course I upgraded the video ram and power supply plus added a sound card to it. If I had the money and the knowlege to do so I would have built my own. But I'm happy with it since I really don't do alot of gaming with it. Quote from: cryhelp on May 08, 2008, 09:03:47 AM

For $1500 BUCKS you can build a pretty decent machine you won't outgrow for quite sometime...
Now we're getting somewhere here...I don't feel I am computer literate enough to try and build one or I would go that way.  Don't want to invest a lot of time and money into something I totally screw up.  I really appreciate you guys trying to help me.  If you know of a good simple instruction guide ( I emphasize simple) pass it on.

Solve : Can someone explain these differences to me??

Answer»

I am considering purchasing a new Dell computer.

I am torn between the Dell Inspiron 1525 and the XPS 1530.

This is one of the specs that I am considering:

Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T5550 (1.83GHz/667Mhz FSB/2MB cache)

I am going to notice any REAL speed differences between not going with a 2.0 GHz.  I do not use this system for gaming.

The other question I have is regarding the video card.

The sales rep said that the Inspiron has an integrated video card which pulled power from a place that the XPS does not...does anyone know what this means or can clarify?

THANKS!!!!If you're not going to use it for gaming, you're probably not going to notice any kind of difference between the TWO processor speeds. If the difference in price is more than $30-$50, go with the slower/cheaper one. You may, however, notice a difference if you don't have enough RAM. Try to get at least 2GB RAM in your computer.
As for the other question..... I'm not sure what the sales rep was talking about. Can you clarify any? or is that exactly what he said? I'm wondering if he was trying to scare you into buying something more expensive. The difference on the graphics card is that the XPS has an 8400 or 8600 card, whereas the Inspiron system has an integrated X3100 chip.
The integrated chip will use system RAM, and will perform extremely badly in 3D applications - you can forget gaming on that chip.
As you're not gaming the X3100 will actually do fine, however you may FIND performance in Vista sluggish at times if you use the 3D effects such as Aero and 3D Flip.  You'll get BETTER battery life with integrated vs. dedicated too.
As said above, the difference between a 1.83 and 2GHz Core 2 Duo will not be noticeable if you don't use your system for intensive tasks. Thanks for explaining the difference between the dedicated vs integrated card...yes, the sales rep did explain it in detail...I'm just not up on computer lingo to remember the details.

Ok...that solves the operating system issue.  Both computers I am looking at will have the following Memory:

2 GB Shared Duel Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667 MHz (2 Dimms)

Of course..I have no idea of what that means other than the 2 GB's. I wished I knew what the duel channel option was supposed to do.

Hard drive on both is going to be:

160 GB 5400 rpm SATA Hard Drive
The graphics are like this:

XPS model:  128 MB NVIDIA  GeForce 8400M GS
Inspiron: Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 and a Intel Graphics Medica Accelerator x3100

you will probably want to see if you can upgrade the hard drive to 7200 rpm. 5400rpm is QUITE slow.

the "2 GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667 MHz (2 Dimms)" just means that there will be two 1gb sticks of RAM installed, totaling 2gb RAM.

Solve : No system found?

I inherited this Dell Latitude LS laptop. When it looked as it was going to upload Win98, it GOES to DOS C:\. I am stuck there. Laptop does not have any floppy nor cd rom. PLEASE helpI don't think you meant to create the poll so I deleted it. You could try typing "win" and press enter to see if it will load into Windows 98. Unfortunately however I'd assume that either its corrupt an unable to load and/or does not have anything on the drive. If you want Windows on there you'll need to obtain a copy of Windows 98 and INSTALL it onto the computer.

Alternatively if it's an older computer and you just plan on browsing the web / doing e-mail, you may also want to consider an alternative operating system such as Linux. I'd suggest Ubuntu if your computer supports it.

Although Ubuntu is free, how will he get it on without a floppy/CD Rom drive?

Well he/she didn't state "drive". Just no floppy or CD-ROM so assuming they just don't have diskettes/discs to reinstall Windows with. I'm pretty sure the Dell Latitude LS has at least a disc drive in it.If the laptop BIOS can be made to support booting from USB, you could install Ubuntu from a USB stick:

This pages describes how to install Ubuntu by copying the contents of the installation CD to an USB drive such as a memory stick (or flash drive) and making the USB stick bootable.

Solve : Hewlett Packard PSC 1610 all in one?

When I try to print, it TELLS me to remove and check the color cartridge.  I do this, but it still tells me the same thing when I put it back in.  Any IDEAS on what I should do.  I KNOW it is not out of ink.How old is this printer?

One thing you may want to try is to clean the print heads.  HP's built-in Toolbox should have a setting to perform this for you.  How old are the ink cartridges...new?...used?

If worse comes to worse, the print heads can be physically REMOVED and soaked (overnight) in some warm water...allowed to thoroughly dry and then reinstalled.

Solve : eCommerce?

Answer»

Hi your help will be appreciated.
In ecommerce how do you set your web page to enable your product to download?  eBook etc. to the customer after payment has been made? How do you know the download worked and the customer received the product?
Thank you.
Regards
cul1649

Please give US a bit more information.

Are you using certain web ecommerce software, like ZenCart or CubeCart?
Or is this a WEBSITE you are using yourself?Dear kpac
Thank you for your speedy reply.
1.
I am looking to put up a simple basic website,
similar to the Internet Marketing people when
they write, and sell a simple $7 report.

As a beginner I would like to do the report as a word text
document and/or basic HTML. I have a problem
uploading templates with FTP, and I am wary of the FTP procedure, something
to be overcome.
Once the report is uploaded, (and although I have
bought many reports and ebooks), I don't quite understand
the procedure as to how the product is processed, so that
the customer pays Paypal, and then the product is received
by the customer on pressing the Download button.
2.
How can I be sure the customer has received the product they
have paid for?
Thank you for your time
Regards
Cul1649You either going to have to learn how to do this yourself, all employ a web design company.  Free eCommerce software is available, as mentioned previously.  They have a steep learning curve - if FTP is too much of a hurdle for you, I suspect that a package such as osCommerce will be completely insurmountable.  There's a lot to learn.  You might be surprised at how cost-effectively you could get something designed for you.Dear Rob
It was kind of you to take the time. Thank you for your courtesy.
I will seriously take on board what you have suggested.
It was great not to be ignored for a change. I wondered if
it was just a matter of inserting a 'HTML phrase" or steps 1.2.3.
If you don't ask you will never know

Enjoy your day.

Mary,

No problem - although I'm now shuddering at the typos and malapropisms in my previous message!  eCommerce is pretty complex.  I've been involved in website design for nearly two decades and I still find it one of the most complex of web disciplines.  There are a lot of components to bring together - invoicing, customer management, payment channels, stock managment, web site content management, and so on.

I have overlooked some options though.  For one thing, you could relatively easily set up an eBay shop, await payment for documents via PayPal and then MANUALLY email your document to customers.  Another option I often overlook (due to my obsession with free software) is the availability of commercial eCommerce packages and services.  Many ISPs offer specific eCommerce hosting with a lot of stuff pre-set up for you, so that's WORTH a look.  Or you could consider purchasing a packaged eCommerce product which would normally come with a lot of online help, to hand-hold you through the process of setting up your shop.  I can't help you with choosing one unfortunately, SINCE I have no experience with the paid products.

Just something else to think about, anyway.  On low margin sales (as internet sales tend to be), costs have to be kept streamlined!Good morning Rob from sunny Sydney (AU).Thank you.
Many people appear to lose interest if they can't pay and immediately download the item.
I might look into the eBay shop. I have found there are a number of ways to send information/items to people however, I feel that unless payment
is upfront and simple, there is the possibility of missing out on either the sale, or the payment.
I am sure that all the information you have provided to me, will be of
great help, and interest to other members on the board.
Best Regards.

Solve : computer freezes after loading windows screen?

Answer»

Hey all..
Lets PUT it simple: I have the same Issue, more or less.

I GET a display and all that, hard drives mount up and run smoothly. As shyfter stated the normal issue would be the PSU, and it WAS the problem at start until I replaced it. So both GFX-card and PSU are out the window for possible problems. With the new PSU it seemed that it was a RAM issue so I ran memtest 86 on all 4 modules and wham 1 of them was broken so i removed it. Everytime I've done something or fixed an issue, ANOTHER one has come up... and now Im stuck again. Trying to reinstall Windows XP SP2 from a CD (worked like a charm when I got it), but now it freezes up at sequence when it is registering COMPONENTS (second part of the installation, not the part in DOS).

A few things I think might have something to do with this:
- My USB ports have been acting up for a longer period of time, especially the port (doesnt matter which one I pick) that I connect my mouse to.
- Harddrive corruption? (altho Ive tried installing on 3 different DISKS so far with the same result/freeze)

- The IDs for some vital system parts, such as memory controller and HID devices, does not have an ID when I boot though.. Could be something in that but Im not that much of a hardware junkie so I can detect the issue just by looking at the screen or the cards.
So Im assuming it might be some form of motherboard issue, but more than that I can't even start guessing on.

Im running a -05 system:
3500+ AMD XP 64-bit
2GB DDR400 (only 1,5GB atm)
GeFroce GT9800 (PCIe)
2x 320GB Seagate Baracudas (SATA2 - no RAID setup atm)
1x 81GB WD Raptor
1x 500GB Maxtor (Not connected)
Motherboard is an ASUS K8N Neo

EDIT: All RAM modules and all 3 HDD's comeback as 100% working with no faults or defect sectors.

Solve : Help w Buying a computer for the first time in 6 years?

Answer»

I need recommendations.  I have a desktop that is 6 years old, slow, and full.   I have a wireless network that is wired into and contolled by the desktop, (set up by myself, not sure how I did it) that also runs a laptop wireless-  an x box wireless  and a PSP wireless.

I need to replace the desktop - currently running the home version of XP (I think) that came free on the computer.

We mainly use it for internet/e-mail, I run the stereo off it through itunes, and pictures are stored and edited. (No video yet, but alot of music) It is also used as the base for all the wireless stuff.

Need suggestions as to minimum processer, memory, hard disk, etc.  Help !

Also any suggestions about getting the music and the pictures off the old machine and onto the new machine.  Or should I just keep the old machine running and somehow network it in with the new machine.
Best way to approach this would be with a budget first....
Once we know that better advice can follow...
There are some great deals out there that meet your usage REQUIREMENTS so let us know.
As far as the other info and drives Data that's a relatively easy SOLUTION and there are a few choices of how to go about it...
Welcome AboardI really dont want to spend $1000.   But if I have to I will.  I would like to get by for about $500 but I dont know if that is realistic.  I certainly is for your needs...as i said decide on a number ...
You would be suprised what you can get for 5 Bills these days. The number is $500 CASH.

What can I get so that I can hold alot of itunes and basically run my stereo (out of the computer to a AMPLIFIER and speakers), store alot of pics,(maybe some video down the road)  surf the internet  (have cable) and use it as the base for the other wireless things I have in the house (xbox, laptop, psp)

I know very little about processor speeds, memory speeds, hard disk storage but I want to be able to do the above without screaming at my machine because it is slow.  What do I need?  (be gentle with the acronymns)

I already have a nice monitor and adequate printer so I dont need one of those package deals.

Also, do I need to hire someone to get all my old itunes and other files off the current machine and onto the new one?  If the store offers this service is it usually a good idea?  I am dreading the task if I have to do it myself. I'd recommend getting a computer with a 250-500 GB hard drive and 2-4 GB memory and an AMD Athlon X2 or an Intel Core 2 processor.Do you need a keyboard and mouse?
Do you play any games, or just play music, VIDEOS, and surf the net?
What operating system do you want?  I'd guess you have Windows XP on that machine, do you want to stay with that again or move to Vista?  Vista is newer but of course different.
Also, can you buy online?
For $500 you can easily get a great machine for your needs by the way A machine that meets your requirements need a reasonable hard drive with sufficient storage space. I would agree with Ironman, 250 to 500GB would be perfect. I would take an Intel Core 2 processor if possible, very solid and fast. Just make sure that you have all the cables and accessories you need to run your business.a machine that meets their requirements could be a 350 Mhz P2 with windows 98SE and an 8GB HD.

a MODERN machine that meets those requirements, however, needs to be more powerful for no reason in particular.

Solve : HP Pavillion dv 5-1235dx won't load past the HP logo?

Answer»

Just purchased this laptop 3 mos ago. It was shut down properly. but when i tried to turn it back on, it starts as though it is going to load. The Hp Invent logo shows up and in the lower left hand CORNER it reads: Press the esc for startup menu. but NOTHING happens when esc is pressed or any other buttons. It will not load past this point. It seems as though it stops reading the hard drive.
Trouble shooting DONE:
Hard Reset
Unplugged the hard drive and then replugged it back in. powered on again and ...Nothing changed.
Unplugged the MEMORY. Replugged back in and powered on again and nothing changed.
Powered on the computer pressing f10 intermittently, in the left hand corner it reads:
F10...Bios Setup Options. The HP Invent logo still present in the middle of a black screen. nothing else changes.
These were done through HP with rep.

Talking to HP was more draining and time consuming but nothing was resolved. she did not seem to be very knowledgeable and was not very computer savvy.
Any suggestions or has anyone else experienced this issue?

Solve : Chatbots??

Answer»

I have a whole bunch of questions.

#1. What is a chatbot, what can they do?
#2. What are chabots programmed in?
#3. How do they function?
#4. How can I make ONE?
#5. If I make one, how can I use it?
#6. If I do use it, how can I protect it from "trolls" and "trojans"?

Please try and answer as many as possible. You don't have to answer them all at once.Well, I'll try answer them at once.

#1. "A chatterbot (or chatbot) is a type of conversational agent, a computer program designed to simulate an intelligent conversation with one or more ...", or "A simulation of a person that talks via a CHAT room".

#2. Zero, CH's other AI bot, is programmed in Perl, but basically any server side language could be used, as well as C, for example.

#3. This page should explain everything.

#4. Learning Perl.

#5. You'll need a server to host it, so it will always be online. You'll need to constantly monitor it to make SURE everything is going right, and you'll need to update every so often.

#6. This is the trick question of the lot. The simple answer is that you can't. By right, you would want at least one chat OP in the room at all times with the bot to stop these things before they happen.

Believe me, I have thought about designing a bot for a long time, but for the amount of work and time involved, I wouldn't have the use for it.

I'm sure Tux, WillyW, or Zylstra could give you a more comprehensive explanation, but that's a summary of it.In addition to kpac's info, it's possible to get a pre-made bot, which can run on most operating systems.  The bot's functions can be extended with extra scripts.
When jacky, fireballs and myself ran "Oz", the ex-channel bot, I ran it from a spare machine running Windows Server 2003, and used the Windrop software.
Running a bot is more simple and more complex than you'd expect - sounds silly, but it's true.  Things you don't even consider turn out DIFFICULT, whereas things like getting it online which you may think are difficult turn out to be easy. Quote from: kpac on May 23, 2009, 03:46:52 AM

Solve : A+ Certification??

Answer»

C++ is outdated?  Why?cause java is some what of an easier and strong language. Quote from: squall_01 on May 22, 2009, 05:12:44 AM

cause java is some what of an easier and strong language.

it's easier to learn but it isn't stronger, nor faster.

Although benchmarks reveal they are similar in speed, the thing is, it's not comparing the java code to the C++ code but rather the Java Interpreter to the C++ compiler. once you compile- it remains the same. but depending on the JVM a user has installed, speed can differ significantly with the same Java bytecode.

I might also add that the bytecode idea was actually "stolen" from MS in a WAY, from their P-code technology in at least Microsoft C Compiler. I don't think it was the first one, but remember, if MS uses a single feature used by another OS manufacturer, regardless of how long that feature/technology has existed, then they are declared as stealing from that other COMPANY. Only seems fair that that would work in both directions.

In any case, your argument against C++ for Java is somewhat ambiguous and unspecified. You may as well have said, "because it's better and stuff". Provide some concrete examples of how Java is overall a better language then C++. No specific cases where Java can be more useful.

I will of course concede that Java, being designed for it (and thus it would be unfair in some contexts to compare their abilities in that arena) is better for certain features of the web, namely applets. However, my experience with Java Applications has been less then stellar. I have found them to be slow and unwieldy compared to other programs written in more developed languages, such as- of course- C++. C++ has been around far longer then Java and it's C origins have been around since good old Kernigan and Richie in the 70's, so it will undoubtedly have a far better set of standard libraries.

Take for example the first few iterations of the Java AWT. Pure crap. Half the time you would end up having to interface with the native API, using a Virtual Machine specific extension, which completely defeated the entire purpose, if not the only purpose, of using java at the time, Cross-platform dependence.

Now with SWING it is far better, and the examples are very impressive.

But still slow. Quote
Kernigan and Richie

A moment of silence, please!

Thank you for taking the time to provide that, BC.
I've seen too many "circular" arguments on here, lately.

Not that I'm always a "prize"...   heh, I just thought I'd provide some meaty goodness for my side, to compete with squall's limp noodle of an argument. Or perhaps it was spaghetti code?

In any case, regarding self-educating oneself to program, I must admit that I actually have never had any programming education, at least, not technically. I did take classes in high school; my teacher gave me VB2 right before summer vacation, and when I returned in september I was already putting him to shame in VB. Of course he couldn't possibly absorb all the information on the variety of programs he taught (3ds max being another major one, lots of quirks with that program). Nonetheless I spent most of those classes helping others and learning about API calls and (eventually) classes.I did some shell scripting in the mid-80's.  I'd like to get back to some stuff, but I'm not sure where to start...more shell scripting? VBScript would be a good start, especially since it's no additional cost or download.OK, duck!  Here comes the major stupidity!

Is Visual Basic similar to the old Unix Shell script?  (It must be, or you wouldn't recommend it.)  Since I know little about VB, I assumed it was completely different.

I know -- I'll learn COBOL!   hmm, I don't think so. I know about as MUCH about Unix shell script as you do about VBScript. on the other hand, batch files might be a good stepping stone, since they are constructed of DOS commands. No, I see...they were separate suggestions!

OK, thanks!i don't know, I'd just like to learn programming, period.  For some reason, C++ always came to mind when thinking about learning to program...I've done a little reading on programming.  I understand there are different levels such as, low-level, mid-level, and higher levels.....I'd like to know them all, but hmmm, where to start???I dont know thats what I was told when I was talking to are campuss tech.  I all ways thought it was a little weaker then C+, I know all three but it has been some time, I found it useful for my lang coder if I had built it.  I never got around to actually programming it but I had the layout that I needed.  Get a book, look at some code and TRY some.

hey guys i was thinking about starting a local computer repair business and i was wondering where to start it would be part time at first then if it works maybe go full time. but i don't know about pricing or equipment i would need to buy or marketing? i got a name but that's about it.

any suggestions would be helpful

P.S. i just found out that there is already a local repair shop in my area here is a list of their services http://www.taftpcservices.com/Computer_Repair_Price_List.htm what do you think about their prices
unlovedwarriorAs in, an ACTUAL office where you would need to buy new equipment? Or things you would already have at home?

Since your starting off, you would probably be better off ordering on demand when it comes to things such as hard drives, CPU's, and RAM... its too expensive to do an initial stock up, even though in the long run you can save money.

Things I find useful when working:
An empty work station with a monitor, keyboard, mouse, Ethernet, and a power plugin. That way, you can grab the PC, and just work on it at that workstation.

I also keep a copy of Ultimate Boot CD at hand for diagnostics.

Tools (just about three sizes of screwdrivers. The little "nose pickers" that you can get for picking up small screws are nice too if you drop one inside the computer)

A flashdrive with a bunch of utilities on it, especially ClamWin for removing viruses since it requires no installer

Business Cards! PROPAGANDA is good! No one said you needed to have a company print business cards for you... if you have a printer at home, look online for a template. DONT use regular printing paper though, find a thicker paper.

Somewhere to back data up to, eg: an external hard drive. Your customer NEEDS things backed up before you reformat their computer...

Disclaimers saying your not responsible for lost data, keep these in check. Get a filing cabinet. Dont throw these forms away, I can dig an official form up for you in the MS-Word format if you remind me to. People arent nice when they go about suing you for something that was probably their fault. Signed paperwork is your shutdown on them.

Once you start getting more of the tech stuff done, keep all your downloaded drivers in a safe place.
I personally keep master copies of drivers for the major models of computers I work on.
In a folder called Drivers, I have things separated by manufacturer, model number, and operating system.
This just reduces time spent on the manufacturer website, as they try to convince you to buy a new computer

If its not inside your home, grab an answering machine... you're going to want to LEAVE hours on the message and have callbacks.

Thats all I can think of.
At my school, I just ghost anything that stops working. Unfortunately, people like to keep their current operating system and files intact... darn them! I glanced at their list of services and figured they didn't have something you might want to considering employing:

Repair installation service - instead of completely reinstalling the OS. This may be an attractive solution if people don't want to go through the trouble of reinstalling their programs and reapplying system settings.
k kool i also noticed that they didnt have anything related to malware i emailed them on this to see what their reply is going to beIf someone came to them with a malware problem, they would probably reinstall the OS as the computer shop in my area does.take the cheap way out. That must be what my boss did when I secretly wrote a small VB app that denies access to the training program. I mean- secretly... prevents bad things from happening. yeah, that's it.

Besides, I left instructions to fix it on a memo. they read memo's, right?i hope not if so then i might have some business after all lolwoops, I meant they take the cheap way out, wasn't meant as a suggestion, woops.  i would start from your home and just start small with friends and family and let it spread by word of mouth. san ramon computer repair is a small and basic name that tells exactly what you're all about. it's nice going out of the home because you won't have to worry about a lot of overhead. i would also recommend getting business cards from vista print. google it.Have a look at this site....lot of sound advice.

http://www.fonerbooks.com/compbiz.htmI would also try an get like A+ certified not sure if that was mentioned.  Jsut wanted to use this as a refrence for later.  I was thinking about the same thing and saw this today.  - I second the Vista Print thought (search for a coupon before purchasing)
- Do a clear/ not complicated, easy to read website.  Read about how to make it further up in the search rankings.
- Create an account and post/repost on craigslist every 48 hours.
- In addition to the items that Zylstra talked about: an IDE/SATA drive adapter.
- Older people may try to confirm your existence by looking in the physical yellow pages if you are referred by someone.
- Communicate clearly and speak clearly when you answer the phone.  Basic yes, but somewhat uncommon...

Solve : Photo Shop Question Help Please?

Answer»

I am wondering if SOMEONE on the forum can help me out.

I currently own a few photo programs. Photoshop 7.0, photoshop elements 7.0 and photo imact pro 13

I have a jpeg photo card that I had made awhile back for my daughters birthday, but saved it in a jpeg file format. I wanted to EDIT this for my other daughters upcoming birthday but I can't figure out how. She loves the invitation so much and REALLY I cant redesign it from scratch EVEN if I tried.  It is driving me insane!
I just want to change the text and add a new photograph. When trying to do so it is removing the whole image.
I contacted one of these freelance people who design invitations and was told they can copy and remake the same exact design for me.. Well if they can do it why can't I.. and save myself the money
Any Advice, help would be SO GREATLY Appreciated!

When you saved it as JPEG, you combined all the layers (graphics, EFFECTS, text) into one. Any graphics that were once behind the text are gone for good. What a freelancer will do is basically redraw what was behind the text, or just try to recreate the template from scratch. Can take a bit of work.

Post what you got. A good geek is always willing to help for free
Yeah, the layers of the graphic image are combined. Check if it is saved in the PSD format. You can edit it if its available. not after saving it as a /jpeg i'm afraid...

Use 7-Zip.
Why??? WinRar works FINE for all .zipsWinRar = Messy + Nagware

In my opinion, 7-Zip is much cleaner, and more efficient. Quote from: Carbon Dudeoxide on April 26, 2009, 06:51:15 AM

WinRar= Win+Rar in a program + Easy to use + easy to ignore

So, what cursors are these anyway...I don't even want them...I like my inverted cursors. Quote from: Helpmeh on April 26, 2009, 06:53:05 AM

That is something that can be discussed another time.

As for the cursors, All I did was download it, scan it, then delete it, after seeing it was made by someone other than Delibrete.Well, I guess Carbon hates me now

anyway for those who are wondering, I used jZip to compress them.

Because jZip is better then 7-zip and WinRar

and they're just modded VERSIONS of the normal cursors for Windows

Solve : my CPU story?

Answer»

Today I swaped out at Celeron Processor for a Pentium 3, in my mom's computer.
I thought it would be a quick task but ran into an unexpected delema.

Once I removed the clamp that holds the heatsink to the ZIF socket, I couldn't for the life of me, get the heatsink off.  So I inserted a small Flat-head screw driver between the ZIF socket and the heat sink gently pryed.  Next thing I know I'm pulling the processor right out of the socket..........It was stuck to the heatsink..   Naturally I freaked for a sec. hoping that I didn't ruin the ZIF socket or the old processor.  Next thing I did was pry the Celeron from the heat sink........cleaned off all the old goo, and grease and went on my happy way, with the Pentium 3.  Got the Pent. 3 installed and it seems to be working good, although I haven't noticed too much of a difference in speed......haven't played around with it long enough.   What was the rating of the Celeron processor vs. the Pentium III?I don't recall .............but I'll plug it into another motherboard and view CMOS, and post back

edit:  It just occured to me that I could taken the heat sink off the old processor  by twisting the heatsink back and forth to break the hold on it, INSTEAD of prying upward.Somebody already said:
Quote

"The Celeron processor has more
tenacity than the Pentium."
well sh** on me!

Since the Celeron is a cheap version of the Pentium 2, I assumed that going to a Pent. 3 must be an upgrade in speed.  Well I was WRONG. The Celeron Chip that I removed runs at 1.3 Ghz and the Pent. 3 that I put in runs that 933MHz.

Guess I have some work left to do..

edit: before I get spanked, I read that info. about the Celeron in the "A+ Cert. For Dummies" Book.....Quote:  "The Celeron chip is nothing more than a less-expensive version of the Pentium 2 processor with the built-in L2 cache either removed entirely or reduced."

Since the Celeron is "less-expensive" version of Pentium 2, I assumed that the Celeron runs at the SAME speed as the Pent. 2, but some L2 cache removed.

Given that, I assumed that the Pentium 3 must be an upgrade in speed.  This quote from the Dummies book is miss leading. Quote from: AEGIS on April 28, 2009, 05:15:17 PM
What was the rating of the Celeron processor vs. the Pentium III?

thanks for ASKING about that.....there's a lesson to be learned here Well, it was kind of a clue...I knew it was a clue, because I tripped over it!

Seriously, every so often, I ask the right question.   Those A+ books are misleading ... I have the same book I think, and it covers some REALLY wacky stuff.
Example - it covers Vista (with the wrong requirements), but it does not cover any newer Intel CPUs than a socket 478 P4, or any AMDs newer than the Athlon XP.
You have to watch those speeds though, at the same speed a Pentium III will be slightly faster but I wouldn't SAY it's a worthwhile upgrade, even if it was the same speed, as the L2 cache doesn't make much of a difference in many applications.I read the entire "A+ Cert. for Dummies All-In-One Desk Reference"  Although the authors seem to be intelligent and nice people, I don't beleive they know how to WRITE.  I've spent many extra hours going over certain paragraphs, again and again.....trying to interpret what they mean.

I've resolved to reading "Upgrading and Repairing PC's 18th Edition", and soon, "Upgrading and Repairing Windows", both by Scott Mueller.   When I get my A+ Cert. I plan on refinning my knowledge with these books..I used this one
http://search.barnesandnoble.com/A-Guide-to-Managing-and-Maintaining-Your-PC-Sixth-Edition-Comprehensive/Jean-Andrews/e/9780619217587

and this one
http://www.amazon.com/Certification-All-One-Guide-Sixth/dp/0072263113/ref=pd_bxgy_b_img_c/175-2110078-5412619

I heard Mike Meyers is pretty good, but I'm not going to dish out any more cash for studying exam objectives....  I've downloaded CertBlaster practice exam questions and plan on drilling myself pretty good before I go in for the exams.....    thanksjj leet ! !let me tell you mike is a pain but if you go to geeks.com I think that they still sell pent 3 at 1 ghz  not sure why yours is running faster.  May have been overclocked or something.

Solve : computer shutting itself off?

Answer»

I'm having this problem periodically.  I've got an HP desktop, running windows XP home edition.  The computer will just shut down (blank screen).  The top button on the tower will be blinking.  I press that to TURN it off then turn the pc back on.  It happened several times at home this morning, then finally was all right and working properly when I left for work.

When I got home this afternoon it only happened once.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you so much.

Donna in CADonna how old is the machine ? ?
Any issues leading up to this point ?
Have you installed any NEW hardware/software recently ? ?Also...

Disable "Restart on error" feature...

1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2. Click the Advanced tab (Vista: click Advanced system settings).
3. Under Startup and Recovery, click Settings to open the Startup and Recovery dialog box.
4. Clear the Automatically restart check box, and click OK the necessary number of times.
5. Restart your computer for the settings to take effect. Thanks so much broni.  I'm almost positive this fixed the problem.

Donna in CA
If its restarting then it wouldnt have.  Just gives you the change to fix it.  The computer doesn't restart itself, was just shutting down and I had to manually restart it.  Sorry I wasn't clear on that.  I'm not real computer LITERATE, and I get confused on some of this stuff.

Donna in CA Does the computer operate fine? No errors, or other issues?Computer seems to be fine now since I did the "Disable "Restart on error" feature.  That was the only problem I had with the computer.  Thanks again.

How do you get colored text in your POSTS?  I can't seem to figure it out.

Donna in CAwere it says change color in the top near the bullet list.Thank you!  WELCOME

Solve : Thinking about buying a Dell, can anyone help?

Answer»

I am considering buying a NEW computer, as the one I have I bought in 1999.  It is old and busted and I have had to change harddrives twice now.

The thing is I would be considered a retard when it comes to specifications and was wondering if anyone has some knowledge with Dell computers.  Basically I want it to be able to multitask like there is no tomorrow.  I am sick to death of waiting half an hour for things to load.

I was looking at one Dell in particular and was hoping someone could tell me if they believe this will be sufficiant to run iTunes, Word, Powerpoint, a few internet windows, windows explorer, and MSN all at the same time and switch between them quite REGULARLY as I am doing Uni.  As well as play a few basic games.

The specs are as follows:
Processor:        Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-920 Processor (2.66GHz, 8MB)
OS:                   Pre-Loaded GENUINE Windows Vista(R) Home Premium 64 bit OEM Version
Memory:           4GB (4X1GB) DDR3 SDRAM 1066MHz Memory
Hard Drive:       500GB SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive with Native Command Queuing
Video Card:      512MB ATI(R) Radeon(TM) HD 4850

Alternately you can view the website:
http://www1.ap.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/desktop-studioxps-435mt?c=au&cs=audhs1&l=en&s=dhs

The model is the - Dell Studio XPS Desktop (S210114AU)

Cheers for any helpThis is a good computer! The specs are awesome, it only now comes down to how much the whole computer package will actually cost. More RAM will make a difference in the speed. If you can afford it, max out the RAM. You want as much RAM as the motherboard can handle.I can afford this one ... just haha.  It will cost me $2000 AUD but that comes with a 21.5" monitor and some other stuff as well.

Yeh I would like to max out the RAM but I am not SURE if Dell has an option to upgrade that or if they are pre-built.They do.

On the link you posted click on "customize" and them click on "memory". That computer will support 8 gigs fo an extra 400 dollars.Thats good.  If I do have 8GB of RAM will this be more than enough to support all those programs I listed and swap back and forth with ease?Given what you're doing, 4gb should be plenty but I'd go max out the ram if I could since you're getting a 64bit version of windows which can handle more than 4gb of ram!

It's like you are driving  Bugatti Veyron but you only drive as though you had  a Honda Accord. Or a 450 watt power supply when you really only need 300 watt power supply.

You really don't need the extra, but it wouldn't hurt to have it .... ultimately just factor in the end cost to see if you really want it or whether you want to SAVE that money for something else that'll make you happy I agree with x2543 about the 4 gigs being plenty to do what you want. Keep in mind that ram is easy to upgrade and if you don't absolutely need it right now you can always get it later and you might actually get it cheaper later. The RAM is perfectly fine. Unless you are going to be running multiple high-resource programs (like running two games, compressing files and burning DVDs all at once).

Just note, for over 4GB or RAM, you will need a 64-bit operating system. Thanks to everyone who answered back, x2543, mroilfield, carbon, and method1 its been a big help.

The Sunday Times (as posted on Drudge today)

Internet users face regular "brownouts" that will freeze their computers as capacity runs out in cyberspace, according to research to be published later this year.

Experts predict that consumer demand, ALREADY growing at 60 percent a year, will start to exceed supply as early as 2010 because of more people working ONLINE and the soaring popularity of bandwidth-hungry Web sites such as YouTube and services such as the BBC's iPlayer.

It will initially lead to computers being disrupted and going offline for several MINUTES at a time. Beginning in 2012, however, PCs and laptops are likely to operate at a much reduced speed, rendering the Internet an "unreliable toy."

When Sir Tim Berners-Lee, the British scientist, wrote the code that transformed a private computer network into the World Wide Web in 1991, the Internet appeared to be a limitless resource.

However, a report being compiled by Nemertes Research, a respected American think-tank, will warn that the Web has reached a critical point and that even the recession has failed to stave off impending problems. They are totally off base...THROUGHPUT is higher than ever and sees no sign of reaching critical mass.
Thanks for the reply Patio, (big SIGH of relief)  I'll sleep better tonight.

I CHANGED my clock and then later tried to get into ONE of my download GAME programs.   i got a window that said error..ccb-f  and i should check with the programs author to get things corrected.    i googled ccb-f code and got a connection to lavasoft  (adaware)      i tried to get into their support CENTER,  and found i could not access that site because i don't have a current adaware maintenance program.   probably no adaware at all.   i think i let it lapse.    anyway...what should i do now???   if lavasoft can't/won't help,    can you??   and what does lavasoft have to do with my computers clock, anyway....if i have no account with them.    the idea is to prevent folks from trying to get around the security for TRIAL programs or something.    so now what??Look here http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=33438
