Answer» My computer is on my desk, of which gets RAN into by my DOGS fairly often, causing many things on my desk to rattle or move. The other day I was playing Dark Souls 3 for fun, as any sane person does, when I may or may not have hit my desk. Everything jiggled the same way it does when my dogs run into it, this time my PC shut off as if it were suddenly unplugged.I turned it back on and at first it seemed fine until I tried to go back to Dark Souls, I thought it was a glitch that it only got 10 fps max at first, so I relaunched the game hoping it would be fixed. Turns out no, I looked at task manager when I launched it to find out that it peaked at 97.5% CPU usage while I launched the game and stayed at close to the 90's while I attempted to play the game with 10 fps. I already restarted my PC as well as leaving it off over night, I feel like something inside my PC was jiggled loose and that's why it's doing this now. I was able to play ARK on MEDIUM graphics at 60+ fps and Darksouls 3 on high graphics at 60+ fps before and now it struggles at 40 fps for MINECRAFT and Gmod. I went inside my PC and tried to make sure everything was fully plugged in and the screws weren't loose to no avail. I went in Device manager and made sure my processors and graphics card was fully updated, nothing. I can't even use twitch without using 25-40% CPU. I'm lost on what to do. Graphics card - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 Processors - Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4670k CPU 3.4GHz x4You may or may not have hit your desk? You don't know? Anyhow, perhaps your RAM or display card/GPU was knocked loose, or hard drive damaged. If you don;t know how to fix these things, take it to a REPAIR shop.

A VPN might be able to be used to tunnel it in a way that works, however not sure if her going through a tunnel to do this would lead to getting locked up. I'd check to see what the penalty is if caught getting around a region/content block as for some counties like CHINA for example I have heard can lock you up for going around their tight content controls of what is allowed to be viewed in that country. If there is no risk of having door broken down and hauled away by police, then a VPN Tunnel Streaming is the method. There would be latency to her connection through your internet connection though so it wont be as fast as you have your internet access. So depending on the connection between you and her it might be sketchy for streaming content. Your internet will need to have a healthy UPLOAD speed of like 10mbps or greater and her connection would require a 10mbps connection or faster download OTHERWISE you could run into buffering issues. The further away she is to you the more hops and more latency. I have a friend in Australia for example and I live in the USA and there is about a constant 2 to 3 seconds of latency between us on a good day which is 2000 to 3000ms.

Answer» With the smartphone on and using it it STILL runs down battery one would think that it could deliver enough power THRU USB to keep battery at 100% when using it when it is plugged into AC.Maybe. I changed chargers for some reason this works. A charger might be SIZED to FULLY CHARGE the battery over a number of hours when the phone is idle, but if you use the phone a lot for calls or wifi internet, and especially games, you could drain the battery quicker than the charger can fill it up. I once tried my ZTE smartphone from 2011 as a wireless webcam (using an Android app called IP Webcam). The phone was fairly new and so I suppose the battery was healthy. It worked using wifi via my home router. When the phone was used alone the battery ran down in about 2 hours. With the ZTE official charger plugged in, it ran down in 4 hours. That phone is still in use as an alarm clock and in airplane mode it lasts about 2 weeks on a full charge.

Just wondering, does this issue happen on all browsers you have installed on your computer, is this a more recent issue or have you had times when things seemed okay and the problem came back? Answer» Hello Dear Helpers, (sorry for my bad English grammar ) My name is Jari and I am an intern in a computer store. In this store we obviously build PC's en repair them for costumors. We also do memtest this means we test the hardware with software from USB. This takes HOURS and we do this overnight. We made a PXE and TFT server where we can Lan boot a PC/ Laptop and choose the memtest options like memorie test or harddisk test etc. We also have the option, when its finished the pc will shutdown. And we get a rapport with results, this all works in our main store. We would like other store's of our company to be able to do the same. My question: Are we able to boot Pc's/ Laptops from other store's over WAN so they can use this aswell. if yes how do we do this. Every store has its own database do we have to do something with this or the router? I would like your help for any ideas, i am not a pro but i will try to understand XD I would have each store having its own PXE service. Booting a system with PXE and installing an OS to a system will be much faster on the local LAN vs through a network bridge tunnel. The biggest issue you will have if you were to share the PXE service with other locations is bandwidth through the tunnel and latency through all the hops between the stores, as well as you would need a network that is isolated from the main network in order for this to work because the PXE service would have to be on one network of which tunnels acting like a network bridge to the other locations would be required to pull it off with all locations contacting the main stores PXE server service. PXE for multiple locations would work best to also be able to perform multiple system builds at the same time through individual local LAN servers with PXE service, so that the sites are not competing for the network bandwidth as well as the Storage controllers bandwidth where the IMAGES are located and served up from. I use to support a food store chain that had 7 locations and we performed all the PXE RIS installations of Windows through a central location. Then transported the computers to the locations that needed them. If the distance was too far between locations we could have easily had multiple PXE RIS servers. Additionally, I wasnt limited to only 1 build at a time through RIS, I was able to once tell 20 WORKSTATIONS to boot from PXE the RIS service and then tell them to all hit the RIS Server at the same time. I then went out to lunch and when I came back an hour later they were all ready for the remainder of their custom configuration for the end users.Thanks for the tip my dude.

You can also go to your bookmarks, right-click on the site and there and select, 'Forget About This Site'; that you remove all traces of the website from your history. A VPN is so that your computer can be on a remote network as if it is on that LAN. For example I can connect to my work VPN and connect to databases and internal websites even though they only allow LAN connections and aren't exposed to the Internet. I could even configure it so that all my Internet Traffic is routed through my Workplace's Internet Gateway, so anything checking IP Addresses would see the IP of my workplace. It doesn't really provide much in terms of security or privacy, though. I think most people, especially in the U.S, really just use it as a proxy to avoid their ISP seeing their data, particularly for torrents and to avoid throttling based on the content of their data. In those terms, it provides a bit of privacy, however, that is simply because it is acting as a proxy; you are connecting to the VPN provider's network, appearing as a LAN IP Address, and using that networks gateway as your Internet Access point. It is sort of overkill when there are free anonymous proxies available, many of which support https. Besides that, it doesn't prevent you from being tracked, and it doesn't "anonymize" you, since IP Addresses aren't usually used for that; cookie data from trackers as well as things like browser fingerprinting mean your IP address usually doesn't matter. VPN providers have made a big noise about how important it is to prevent your IP from being "leaked" and how hiding it makes you anonymous because that is what they do. It also, importantly, doesn't prevent the VPN Providers' ISP from inspecting your traffic and/or throttling it based on what is present, either, since the secure connection is only between you and the VPN provider's network, once it goes out their gateway unless you used HTTPS it's going to be just as free and clear to their ISP as it would be to yours. Not to mention that even if they don't, they could be compromised and somebody else could. So it really comes down to a question of whether you would rather your traffic go through your ISP, or whether you would rather have it go through some unknown VPS data center run by a VPN Provider that can map all your traffic directly to you (But promise they don't) and then go through that VPN providers ISP (whoever that is). It's also not difficult to start a VPN provider. It's probably why there are so many these days. You set up a VPS and install some open source software and bang, you've got a VPN. Now charge people to use it and you are a VPN Provider. Now promise everybody you don't keep logs and you are private and secure. Maybe put a few gold star fake awards on your site. Make sure that your site checks where the IP that is viewing the site is from, if it's your network say it's "secured". Anywhere else say that your "IP Is being leaked" or some censored. Also reach out to a shitload of youtubers, because APPARENTLY lot of them will take money to metaphorically suck you off to their audience.An great post, BC. A VPN is so that your computer can be on a remote network as if it is on that LAN. For example I can connect to my work VPN and connect to databases and internal websites even though they only allow LAN connections and aren't exposed to the Internet. I could even configure it so that all my Internet Traffic is routed through my Workplace's Internet Gateway, so anything checking IP Addresses would see the IP of my workplace.

It doesn't really provide much in terms of security or privacy, though. I think most people, especially in the U.S, really just use it as a proxy to avoid their ISP seeing their data, particularly for torrents and to avoid throttling based on the content of their data. In those terms, it provides a bit of privacy, however, that is simply because it is acting as a proxy; you are connecting to the VPN provider's network, appearing as a LAN IP Address, and using that networks gateway as your Internet Access point. It is sort of overkill when there are free anonymous proxies available, many of which support https.

Besides that, it doesn't prevent you from being tracked, and it doesn't "anonymize" you, since IP Addresses aren't usually used for that; cookie data from trackers as well as things like browser fingerprinting mean your IP address usually doesn't matter. VPN providers have made a big noise about how important it is to prevent your IP from being "leaked" and how hiding it makes you anonymous because that is what they do. It also, importantly, doesn't prevent the *VPN Providers'* ISP from inspecting your traffic and/or throttling it based on what is present, either, since the secure connection is only between you and the VPN provider's network, once it goes out their gateway unless you used HTTPS it's going to be just as free and clear to their ISP as it would be to yours. Not to mention that even if they don't, they could be compromised and somebody else could.

So it really comes down to a question of whether you would rather your traffic go through your ISP, or whether you would rather have it go through some unknown VPS data center run by a VPN Provider that can map all your traffic directly to you (But promise they don't) and then go through that VPN providers ISP (whoever that is).

It's also not difficult to start a VPN provider. It's probably why there are so many these days. You set up a VPS and install some open source software and bang, you've got a VPN. Now charge people to use it and you are a VPN Provider. Now promise everybody you don't keep logs and you are private and secure. Maybe put a few gold star fake awards on your site. Make sure that your site checks where the IP that is viewing the site is from, if it's your network say it's "secured". Anywhere else say that your "IP Is being leaked" or some *censored*. Also reach out to a shitload of youtubers, because APPARENTLY lot of them will take money to metaphorically suck you off to their audience.An great post, BC.

Answer» I was an Xbox man for the original console, and for the 360, all the way up until 2014 when my friends convinced me/strong-armed me into SWITCHING over to PC. I've enjoyed my time gaming on the PC, to be fair, but I feel like I'm missing something. Playing on PC, the player base does seem a whole lot more mature on the whole, which to me just feels a bit hollow and lacking diversity for quite the majority of the time. I miss getting on the headset and generally getting to a speak to a wide VARIETY of people. Also selfishly, the PC player base on the whole is a bit more skilled, at least in my experience. I've certainly adapted, and I'm a REALLY good player, but I miss being really great (lol). Also, going to PC from Xbox after all those years meant ditching some gamer friends that I'd made on Live over the years... You say it needs to run from the root of the USB so NO PUTTING different versions on different partitions is unlikely to work.

There may be another way to achieve a positive result. Can you tell us what the program is please. Like if it is a load of windows installs there MAYBE a way to put these on the 1 partition.

2735.	Solve : Old Drive New Computer?
Answer» I just built a new computer today with a AMD Ryzen 3 CPU/APU. I put a PCI Express 3.0 x4 (NVMe) Solid State Drive on it and tried to install WINDOWS 7. The USB didn't work and it didn't recognize the drive. So I took the backup SATA SSD out of the old computer to see if I could put a fresh install on it for the new motherboard. Well to my surprise it works with the setup from the old computer, I am using it right now. My question is should I try and install the drivers for the new motherboard on it or would there be conflicts that would cause problems. I am looking at buying a full version of Windows for the new SSD but if I don't have to install it on the old drive I won't.Re-install all drivers for the new rig...Chipset drivers 1st...then all others...and you should be GOOD to GO... Consider imaging the drive after this works in CASE you wanna move to a new SSDIf it works in your old SSD then you can definitely install all the drivers in it and if you want to move the OS to the next SSD, as told by Patio above image the drive into the new one. Hope it works that way and you can work with the new SSD.The native Windows 7, on the other hand, does not recognize or work with PCIe NVMe SSDs. Nor does it come with in-box drivers. If you wish to install the Windows 7 system on a PCIe NVMe SSD, PLEASE refer to the link below, or consult Microsoft for information. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2990941/ So you will need to install the 2 updates to the Windows 7 on the old SSD and then find a program which will see the NVMe SSD to do a copy. This link contains a link to software and a tutorial. If the motherboard is new it would pay to check there is drivers available for Windows 7. If the computer is not booting from USB it is likely a bios setting, most bios's have a key to press to enter the boot menu normally f12.

Answer» I have already added 2 e-MAIL accounts to my main Gmail account for the purposes of regularly checking for e-mails on my main account. Both the accounts I added were from a different e-mail provider. I had absolutely no problem adding those 2 accounts from a different provider. Then, I tried to add another Gmail account for the same PURPOSE and I keep getting the same message "Server denied POP3 access for the given username and password." I researched the problem and tried several different things I saw online but cannot SEEM to get it to work! In the meantime, I have gone into the other account I wish to download from and have used the mail forwarding function to receive the e-mails. It works, but I believe that SOMETIMES there can be fairly long delays in receiving e-mails that way. It seems the pop server METHOD is quicker more often. Can anyone suggest how to rectify this problem?

Answer» I am working in Lbre Excel and trying to prepend a 0 to values lesser than 10 so 1 would be 01 and all values 10 or greater would be without a prepended 0 I was thinking I could do this with an IF statement that would concatenate adding a 0 before a VALUE if W3 is lesser than 10, yet if W3 is equal to or greater than 10 just DISPLAY the double digit number without the added 0 I tried using this below by following guides on google for IF logic and Concatenation and I get a Err:508 in the cell =IF((W3<10) THEN (U3&AMP;0&ROUND(W3)) ELSE (U3&ROUND(W3))) Curious what I am doing wrong here I tested a concatenate function with =(U3&0&ROUND(W3)) and that WORKS ... but need to have it working within an IF, THEN, ELSE to add 0 only if W3 is lesser than 10. Can't you just add leading zeroes in the cell format dialog? What is U3? or use the TEXT function: Code: [Select]=TEXT(ROUND(W3),"00") Pretty sure THEN/ELSE are not part of the IF function, which is likely why that part doesn't work. That works fine to break the hours and minutes apart. Next is conversion of the minutes from 100 to 60 and that part works fine. Next is concatenate the hours and minutes under normal 60 minutes per hour which works fine; however 0 through 9 require a leading 0 otherwise the time of 3:07 would show up as 3:7. If I didnt test for value to be lesser than 10 then the leading 0 would be for all and that would cause problems with time of say 3:15 showing up as 3:015, so it needs to be a conditional leading 0 The U3 is the Hours and the W3 is Minutes * NOTE in the formula I provided it doesnt show time with : as the time will be without the colon and instead as 3:15pm as 1515 I tried using the formula of =IF(W3<10,(U3&0&ROUND(W3),(U3&ROUND(W3))) and it gives me a Err:508 in the cell that is taking the formula that when correct should display a correct time. There was a missing paren I think. Answer» My WMP only recognizes 4 or 5 folders from my MUSIC files on my computer, I am running Windows 10 and have TRIED the main options to get WMP to add all my music files to the library by using a GOOGLE search with no success, anyone have any other ideas??? I have about 4000 songs and it only adds the same 60-70 songs after I go thru the steps OUTLINED to "fix" the problem. Your help is greatly appreciated.... Jim

Answer» Friend of mine wants to set his kid up with the ability to word process and no games or internet ACCESS on an older Intel Atom Laptop. I figured EASY to do, just remove the bundled games and disable the network adapter making it forced to offline operation, and then set the kid up with a user profile that removes the ability to install software/games. However it got me thinking... I was curious if anyone knows of any Linux Distros that take a computer and turn it into only functioning as a word processor, as many limited and custom environments exist as Linux distros? Most use a computer as a computer and if word processing is needed just launch an OFFICE environment to type up the documents in, but just curious if anyone knew of a distro out there to try to see if thats a better environment for their needs vs stripping a computer environment build of privilege and game/internet functionality as a KIOSK MODE computer acting as a word processor.

2744.	Solve : I am no longer able to right-click on images to save them to my hard drive?
Answer» I am running Windows 10 and using a refurbished Acer computer I've had for six weeks. I have been using a computer to access the Internet for 25 YEARS. For the first time in the last 25 years, I am suddenly unable to use my mouse in order to right-click on a picture file and save it to my HARD drive. This happened yesterday (August 1st 2020). I tried changing the batteries in my mouse, rebooting, but this function has been disabled somehow. I have several blogs and use photos I garner from various online sources to post on said blogs. It's just a matter of right-clicking and a window appears with several ways of saving these files. I always choose "Save as" WHENEVER possible, click on the phrase and voila: The pictures are stored in folders on my hard drive to be accessed when needed. I use most of these saved files as a screensaver as well. There doesn't appear to be any reason why I am suddenly unable to perform this basic function. I don't use any watermarked photos or COPYRIGHT items and as far as I know, the rules haven't suddenly changed overnight. Does anyone here have any explanation or have encountered the same issue? Answer» I admit that when trying to explain and express my frustration with this period of time that seems to have started at the beginning of 2020 and the announcement that an unknown virus had been DISCOVERED and it may lead to a pandemic Does anyone recall how few people really understood what that meant? As I write that sentence I wonder how we arrived at this place in our life and at this time? In less than a year that seems in many ways like a lifetime so much has changed and our country seems more divided than I ever thought possible. What is " truth "? Not what is THE TRUTH because the later is much more subjective while a definition of " truth " seems to be more objective. That said, I think the lines have become blurred and if you READ in another post of mine talking about the onset of vision problems I think that's just yet another strange coincidence. Instead of just giving my opinion I think I'd like to ask if anyone else has had similar thoughts and questions about where we are now and how we got here? I discovered when talking with people that I know including family and friends I'm not just surprised I'm blown away at much of what I hear. I find myself thinking about THE DAY that I heard something that changed my behavior immediately; Feb 28 2020. I was on my way home after a monthly massage that I get for a chronic spine issue. Whatever I heard on the radio led me to turn into a branch of my bank and that was excellent good fortune as I locked in an interest rate for 9 months and within days the rates and even the way we did our banking changed and it is still changed. I can not walk into my bank without making an appointment. I can see this question having many different takes. I'm looking forward to hearing what other's think and their thoughts on how we got here. I've been in the lucky position that I have remained fully employed during the pandemic, since we already all worked from home, my Day to Day has hardly changed at all. Back when this whole thing was gearing up I remember things were slightly busier, because our software is used in some retail stores that sold Ammunition, and apparently a lot of people were "prepping". I guess they planned to shoot the virus. I actually kind of feel like continuing to work was "doing my part" too as the taxes from my income could go to help people who weren't so lucky and needed the CERB or the recently reworked EI or CRB. I think the most disgusted I've been in recent memory was around March when somebody seriously suggested I should apply for CERB because they were basically approving everybody! Unbelievable. Aside from that being morally reprehensible (I don't need it! I haven't been affected!) They will be going through the records and finding out who actually needed it and who didn't, It's not "free money". in 2003, SARS was right on the brink of becoming a pandemic before it was contained. Covid-19 is almost like "revenge of SARS", and basically is more contagious and spreads more easily due to the long incubation period. The big issue seems to be that because of that these precautions need to be in place long enough to actually become a new "status quo" which is too long for some people, and people get fatigued and relax the precautions and you get another wave. For the United States, Politics seems to be more heavily involved than it is in most other countries, though that is perhaps beyond the scope of what should be discussed on this forum. As for "How we got here"? There have been a lot of epidemics and pandemics in the past. We just happen to be living through a pretty bad one at a global scale. And as with those, we will be asking questions about what was done well, what was done poorly, and who did what when and why for decades, not unlike other major historic events.I am retired so never had to worry about losing my job and so far our financial situation has not been effected by the pandemic. My oldest son lost his job 2 months ago but that had nothing to do with the pandemic. He has since been offered and ACCEPTED a new position at a higher salary so it was all for the good. My other 2 adult working children have remained fully employed thru the whole thing so we have been fortunate in that regard. My wife and I are both in our late 60s and we have a disabled daughter that is immune compromised so have taken the advice to stay home, stay socially distanced and wear a mask in PUBLIC very seriously. What is "The Truth"? I suppose the truth is different for different people. However, I don't see how anyone can deny the fact that we are in the midst of a serious pandemic that has taken many lives around the world. Answer» Does this speed test look right?Your download speed looks pretty decent but your upload speed seems way too slow, I would EXPECT to see a HIGHER upload speed. You may want to contact your internet provider to ask them about it. Do you know what level of SERVICE you are paying for? Typically they will be very slippery about up/down speeds where they will state state a number prefixed by the words "Up to ", such as they might say "Upload speed of Up to 2.0 Mbps." So even if you're not getting anywhere near that stated speed they can claim it is within the speed you CONTRACTED for.On standard deals upload is usually 5 Mbps...so yes strollin is correct.... Have you rebooted the router lately ?Have you tried a different speed tester or one that is hosted in the same country ideally?

Answer» All the files in just one of my many folders containing hundreds of pictures in jpeg format have somehow been converted to pdfs and can't be opened. The error message says the files have been damaged All the files in the affected folder are Avery address labels, some I have had for over 5 years. One was created using the Avery on-line design WEBPAGE., the others using the now discontinued Avery downloadable programme. I suspect that the problem may be related to an upgrade from WINDOWS7 to Windows10 earlier this year. Is there any way of recovering these files? Answer» I have hooked up two monitors to my laptop. I want to keep an excel sheet on ONE screen and a website on another screen. I want to be able to use both screens how can I go that? Went into display SETTING and set up screen 3 with excel but when I try to setup screen 2 it does not show up. I have clicked on extend desktop is this right? Any help will be appreciated.When WORKING with multiple displays, if you start 2 applications (in your case Excel and your browser), they'll both start on your "main" screen. Once started, you can then DRAG one of the applications to the 2nd screen.The laptop needs to SUPPORT dual monitors...

2750.	Solve : Norton 360 Premium - Surprise - Credit Card Required to Install product?
Answer» A client of mine bought Norton 360 Premium and bought it with cash from BJ's. They went to install it and it required a credit card before it would allow installation. They don't own a credit card and want to install the software. They contacted me and I ended up working with Norton SUPPORT. At first they stated that the packaging clearly states that a credit card is required in fine print. However when telling them that no credit card is available so I guess your going to lose a sale because the software is going to have to be returned, they requested the software key and was able to activate the software at their end. Then they gave me a link and said all set now, just download and install the software. The link they gave worked and was able to install the Norton 360 Premium onto their computer. Norton support stated the reasoning behind a credit card required is so that you don't have to worry about a lapse in your protection. And normally people who don't want to be charged a reoccurring annual fee will use their credit card as for the installation requirement and then you can logon to your account with them and disable the reoccurring payment option. It was a TOTAL eye opener that they are this desperate to charge people that the installation procedure doesn't allow for skipping the credit card requirement! And only way to GET around that requirement was to have support scold you that you should have read the fine print and then activate your key and then provide a link to download it. I suppose their logic is sound, Though making it a requirement to enter a CC at install time, rather than merely suggesting it and allowing the user to skip, feels like a "dark design" to me. To me AV software and the companies behind them sometimes feel shadier than actual malware. Though I'm biased because AV software has been an almost constant headache as a developer. We are constantly dealing with AV software detecting our software as some generic trojan malware. Trend Micro Business detects many of our 'reduced size' installers as malware (they are reduced in size by only installing a few files- our updater program runs the installers so we have it take care of creating symbolic links). Initially I was thinking it was suspicious because of the symlinks, but, then it should be flagging the updater. Not only that but their Trend Micro Housecall finds nothing, so I don't know why their different editions would be finding things different. Even stranger is that it was detecting the existing uninstallers for their installed version from April as malware too. Which is why I'm liable to blame Trend Micro for creating a crappy product throwing out stupid false positives. On the other hand, as a developer you can pay for a "partnership" account with them and then submit your software so it never shows up as a false positive so part of me wonders if it's a racket. Another fun one is that some of them don't even detect it as malware but just decide not to let it run without saying anything. So the updater program I ran runs the uninstaller to get ready to install the new version- and AVG just kinda blocks the process and it never exits, so the updater sits there forever. Better yet, it's impossible to even kill the uninstall process. I don't know what AVG is trying to do there but it doesn't make any sense, especially since it's not actually detecting anything. Stupider still IMO is I found a workaround where it can still run it and not be blocked, so if it is a protection mechanism, pretty sure actual malware authors might figure it out too? countless man hours sunk into screenshares for weird issues only to find that the AV product they are using has decided is the source. Then I try to contact them about it and they are trying to get me to sign up with some stupid PAID partnership program so I can submit program files, (one at a time)... feels like a racket. "oy, be a real shame if your software was detected as a false positive, we can fix that for you- for a fee..."
