Solve : Split CAT-5 into two LAN connections.? |
|
Answer» This old tick lets you have TWO Ethernet connection on one cable. This is for a normal 100 MHz LAN. Of the 8 wires, only four are needed to make a connection. So yu can use the other four to run another LAN connection over one cable. This is HARDY when you do not have a HUB to tie two PCs onto a LAN. Or, you can have two independent LAN connections. I can't see any benefit from doin' it this way when there are simple solutions...just me.Right. The benefit is marginal. The conventional solution is to EITHER run another cable or use a Hub to allow two PCs to share one cable. However, if you already have a very hard run of cable in tight area, doing the split is a low-cost method of having two connections on one cable. But the cost of a simple hub is very little. Ready made 2-way adapters are for sale on eBay. Other places also sell them. They are proper use of CAT-5 cable. If you have a system at 100 MHz or less. Here they are on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Ethernet-Splitter-Sharing-Connections-Single/dp/B002BVQF5A Note there are customer REVIEWS on the device, most are positive. Quote 've purchased several of these kits and actually used the 'method' before by creating the splitter myself. They work very well. This kit takes advantage of the fact that most network CABLES have two extra pairs of wires. It splits the 4 pairs in the cable into two sets of two pairs to create two network connections over one 4-pair cable. You do need an extra port on your switch or router for the second connection. If that is not available, you need to buy a small 4 or 5 port switch instead and put it where you need more connections.- March 16, 2014, Verified Purchase He is right. Only two pair are actual active on 100 MHz LAN.My home LAN has been 1000 Mb/s for years. Just saying. |
