I am reading a list of files in a directory on a linux based system, and want to present to the user of the website both the file name and a description of what that file is. For example if the extension is .ppt I'd like to give the description "Microsoft PowerPoint" or similar. I can't imagine I'm the first to ask this question, and found lots of answers for other programming environments using google searches, but nothing specific to node.js.

Note: I am NOT just looking for the mime-type! I SEE lots of ways to get the mime-type from an extension. I'd like the human-readable description of the type, based on the extension of the file.

My gut tells me someone has done this in node and I am just being unsuccessful in finding it with google. Thanks for any help.The fs module PROVIDES the readdir() and readdirSync() methods.

You can extract the extension from the filename, and use a JavaScript switch statement to create custom output depending on the file extension.

I created some private characters in Windows by EUDCEDIT and I see different line spacing to regular characters.
Also - top part of character is cutted off.
Even top of private character is bit VISIBLE in higher FONT size.

Is possible to adjust line spacing to have characters in clean row and to see top of private character?

There are all sorts of projects out there for using CPU and GPU processing power for farming cyber currency to data for BOINC projects and more. I was looking over my BOINC account and was thinking it would me neat to hear from others that have a single system or bunch of systems, what hardware specs your running and operating costs for electricity and what projects you have going on if you would like to share with us here?  You can even share about any special projects you have going on too that you coded up yourself and what your doing etc if you want to share that as well.

Myself I have run up to 15 computer systems plus 4 ARM processing smart phones at the same time in the past for BOINC for mostly the Asteroids project that they have going on to map out asteroids in the asteroid belt and measure where they are located and their drift to calculate a MEANS of discovering future asteroid impact threats with earth. Currently I had my systems not processing, but I am going to run the extra smart phones that I have that have a very SMALL electricity cost and the CPU processing power per Watt of power used when last measured was the equivalent of a Core 2 Duo CPU system.

I also have had private projects in the past that I threw CPU processing power at to look for weak keys with a basic encryption program that I had that was substitution of ASCII to hide the true contents of text files, so that keys were needed to unlock and remove the bogus data from the real data and make it viewable again in its original form.

My 2 most powerful systems I own are AMD FX8350 4.0Ghz 8-core and a AMD FX-8300 3.3Ghz 8-core.

However I rarely power these systems on because I enjoy using my low power Desktop System with a Laptop CPU ITX Motherboard, AMD A8-5545m 1.7Ghz Quadcore with 2.7Ghz Turbo system for most of everything that I do which makes for CHEAPER electric bills. The system runs on around 37 watts idle and can consume as much as 75 watts when running full tilt in its turbo mode.For a while I had used a custom-built CMS I put together on my website for handling downloads. It was a true-blue pain- I'd have to build the project, build the new installer, make sure it had the right version, upload it to my website, then update my downloads database with a thrown together submit form. It wasn't hard but I seldom could be bothered.

Over the past year or so I've had a Jenkins CI Server on my Low-power AMD 5350 System- primarily intended to solve this problem.

I have several of my github projects configured. If I make changes, they are detected and the computer downloads the source changes then rebuilds the project. If I bothered to make one yet, it will also built the installer for that new build. The version number is set automatically and the program even has the Git commit hash injected, in case it wants to show it in about dialogs or something. Only one program I have set up I've bothered to have an installer script for so far, though.

Every morning a separate scheduled task runs which will upload the latest of any new builds to my website.

Furthermore, in the wordpress downloads page I have the projects that are automatically built in this fashion configured not to point at a specific file on the server but instead at a php file, which always initiates a download of the latest installer.

The end result is that if I was to make a change to my Tetris clone, it should appear automatically as a brand new installer within a day or two.

So far it's only on the one project, mostly as I've not made worthwhile changes to any of the others and haven't bothered to create an installer script for them either.

It is on the AMD system to save power. I don't want something like that running in the background of my main desktop, and I don't want to have my "old build" (QX6600) system on 24/7 because that's basically the computer power equivalent of an SUV. Thew automated build stuff also doesn't NEED to be concerned about performance- if it takes a bit longer to build than it's not a big deal.Pretty cool BC. I like that you too are using a lower power system to reduce electric bill operating cost with that project.

I too have one of those socket AM1 systems, mine is with the Sempron 3850 Quadcore 1.3Ghz, but it was starting to lag for some reason and random crashes without reason so when the A8-5545m Quadcore 1.7Ghz with 2.7Ghz turbo build came along with far better performance. Having the faster than 1.3Ghz clock, and more CPU Cache made a big difference for slightly higher power consumption. Not sure what I am going to do with the Sempron 3850 Kabini since even with a Live Linux on USB stick it would crash and reboot. I thought power supply, swapped that out and still happened. MEMTEST86 passed too. I yanked the Gigabyte AM1 motherboard with that CPU in it and pulled the DDR3 1600Mhz RAM out of it to place into this newer A8-5545m Biostar A68N ITX motherboard and no crashes now. I figured that because the AM1 builds are so cheap that possibly corners were cut in quality on the $40 Gigabyte brand BOARD with $35 APU and thats why after 18 months of operation running 24/7 it started to fail.

As far as installers go. I've never made an installer for any programs I have created, other than one larger project that was spanned across 4 DVD-R's for my 15.3GB Unreal Tournament 99 installer that added 14GB of maps for different deathmatch rooms as created by the community that played and continue to play and create custom maps for the game. I basically wrote a batch within C++ that used system calls to complete batch instructions and named it setup.exe at the root of the 4 DVD-R's. Not a professional installer but a cleaner looking batch process in a C++ console execution environment.

I found a website that had thousands of maps for download and instead of downloading them one by one, I used HTTrack to create an exact copy of the website for these maps which took about 4 days because I set HTTrack to a slow throttled copy so that the owner of the website wouldnt get hammered too badly with download and page requests. I then ran a batch that grabbed all the .zip files that were farmed from it. Then ran a virus scan across all these zips to make sure nothing bad in any of them. Then deleted the mirror copy of the website and then ran a script with 7-zip to unzip the gigs of maps. Then virus scan the entirety once again to double check and then go through the process of setting up the folder structure of the maps files which also had audio files and other texture contents that needed to be imported to UT99's directory structure for the game to find them all. Then decided to backup all these maps onto 4 DVD-R's with C++ wrapped batch instructions via system calls that basically xcopied the contents from the DVD-R's onto the default target directory for UT99.

Its kind of overkill to have that many maps for the game. I have only sampled maybe 40 of thousands of them so far. But I like that I have UT99 with almost every map ever made for it in my game collection now.

At some point I probably should learn how to make a installer for programs that is professional looking, but the only dependency with some programs is that .Net Framework of a specific version or newer installed to avoid error messages, and my programs are ones that I write for myself and so I know to make sure that Dot Net version 3.5 or newer is installed for example on the system that is going to run my C# program etc. Sometimes though I go to run a program of a few years ago on a clean build of XP SP3 for example and forget to update Dot Net and then the crash error is a reminder that I need to install Dot Net 3.5 to get it to execute and run properly. 

I suppose a greater importance with an installer would be one that is a Windows Environment program that adds and edits registry keys and places itself properly into the Program listing of the system and registered with Windows as an installed program to single or all users, so that when no longer needed etc a clean uninstall can also be achieved.

I think the only thing that bothers me with modern laptops are that more and more models are being built with internal battery and I like the older style of removable battery. For certain TROUBLESHOOTING/laptop fixes its nice to be able to remove the battery as a means of troubleshooting and fixing certain problems.

However my 2 newest laptops one a Dell Core i3 and other a Lenovo Core i5 both have the battery as part of the laptop and so if I wanted to remove the battery, I would have to OPEN the laptop to gain access to it to physically remove it that way whenever I have a problem in the future that requires its removal for reset of power to main board or replacement.

Dell Optiplex 7010 Business Desktop Computer (INTEL Quad Core i5-3470 3.2GHz, 16GB RAM, 2TB HDD, USB 3.0, DVDRW, Windows 10 Professional) (Renewed).
It costs $250 just for the TOWER. I was hoping if someone can TELL me if this is worth or is there a BETTER option for this price?
I am trying to keep it under $275 for the tower because I have to buy a monitor as well.

I think all personal COMPUTERS have built-in SOFTWARE to make and use JPEG images.

I'm sorry for the recent problems with creating new posts and splitting posts on the forum.  I've updated the server software, SQL, moved to PHP 7, and updated the forum to 2.0.15 and it RAN into some issues with some of the forum mods I didn't NOTICE after the update. BEIJING — Responding to the second crash of a Boeing 737 Max 8 soon after takeoff in LESS than five months, China ordered its airlines on Monday morning to ground all 96 of the aircraft that they operate.
The Civil Aviation Administration of China noted in its announcement of the grounding that both the Ethiopian Airlines crash on Sunday and a Lion Air crash in Indonesia in late October had involved very recently delivered Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft that crashed soon after takeoff.

Separately, Boeing said it was postponing the external debut of its 777X plane, which had been planned for Wednesday. The company took the action in a statement in which it said it was “deeply saddened” by the Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 accident.

Boeing aircraft are some of China’s biggest imports from the United States and are among the few imports on which China has not imposed tarifs as part of its trade war with the Trump administration.

Not listed here and already feeling the pressure of changing times are MALLS.

Recently I went to 3 malls after not having gone to them in over 8 years. ( I live 60 miles from one mall, 80 Miles from another and 90 from the other and thats why its been 8 years.) They use to be busy and fun to go to and have a variety of good food in the food courts. However the Steeplegate Mall in Concord New Hampshire was once full of big name stores and its a ghost town in there. Additionally all the big name food they had in there gone and now just a few no name businesses likely getting a bargain for rent on business space trying to MAKE MONEY in a mall that isnt doing well at all. Greater than 60% of the shops/stores were closed and empty and i only saw 1 other couple of customers in there. The silence and echo of foot steps was weird to notice.

I thought this was just failure due to location and that maybe its just the result of change in peoples shopping patterns to go to Manchester Mall instead but that one too is much less busy than what use to be, however not in the kind of failure that Steeplegate is in.

I attended College last summer on the opposite side of Vermont in the town of Rutland and they have a Mall there that use to be really healthy. My visit there was the same as Steeplegate with businesses that left and no one is renting the space inside. K-Mart was going out of business and so I stopped in there and they already had 80% of the store gutted and majority of the good deals gone with mostly ugly CLOTHING that no one would ever buy and damaged furniture that they are trying to sell at 90% off.

It then occurred to me that the pattern that is happening is not that people are going to other Malls Physically, but that the failure of malls was in the fact that the Internet is killing them off. Amazon and all other thriving online businesses are thriving and people like the ease of buying stuff online and waiting a few days for it. People these days are less likely to go to a store and try on clothing when they already know their size and if it doesnt fit well you can just ship it back and get a replacement in the correct size or full refund.

So Malls in the United States are going to all dry up I feel and Wal-Mart is going to survive mainly on the fact that their super stores sell food and have an automotive department. Their margins could increase on products based on paying a small premium for convenience for having something right now vs having to WAIT 2 or 3 days for it to arrive. So Wal-Marts prices might rebound from competitive with Amazon to deciding to raise the prices slightly and not be dragged down to lesser margin but make money on convenience premiums.

This not news. Or may  or it is if it is new to you. I did not know until I STARTED to have trouble with my COMCAST Internet Bill. I learned that many, many people have complained loudly and even the government has come down on the giant company.

Is it POSSIBLE to convert a live video FEED from a camera into a screen set up for Virtual Reality?A camera of a live stream is placed pointing in one direction and doesnt move so not sure how VR would WORK with this, non movement, non depth changing video.

I would THINK you would need a robot to move and point the camera in the direction your LOOKING to have anything along these lines and then there is the issue of picture quality and the bandwidth it would take to make it crystal clear.

Usually I delete a gmail  contact, using the steps below:-
       
1. I open the list of contacts
2. I go to the name I want to delete, and I click on the figure of THREE dots to the right of the name.
3. I then click on delete.

This method worked until last February, but it won't work now.  Why?

3. In your contacts, choose one to delete, and click the icon.



4. The icon changes to an unchecked checkbox. Click it to turn it to CHECKED state.



5. Click the three-dot "more actions" icon.



6. Click the "Delete" action.



7. Click "Delete" to confirm you want to delete the contact.





At least they made it simple this TIME...sheese...

i have an OLD NIKON CoolPix L18/L16 digital camera, which has not been used since 2004.
but,it still takes great pics !

my problem; can't find my owner's manual that tells me how to
transfer pics to printer to computer.

yes, i emailed Nikon, but their instructions did not work. 
guess you have to be old enough to remember this camera/transfer process...

The SD card can be put in a card reader that plugs into a USB port.
Mostly likely the images are in JPG format and can be read by Windows.
 They are sold at Walmart and other stores.

Exclusive to Nikon cameras, the NEF is Nikon's RAW file format. RAW image files, sometimes referred to as digital negatives, contain all the image information captured by the camera's sensor, along with the image's metadata

Pretty much calling it quits on this Toshiba L505D-5983 for upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10 and will install Linux on it instead.

Ran into the worst upgrade ever for Windows 10 and it all COMES down to a keyboard/touchpad driver that MALFUNCTIONS under Windows 10. There is a work around posted online to revert to prior Windows 7 drivers, but this doesnt work on a clean build of Windows 7. Tried to get Windows 10 running to force the Windows 7 driver to work with 10, but the minute Windows 10 boots with keyboard support after POST it starts screaming as if there is a key that is held down. After about a minute of the screaming it them moves on and is quiet but the touchpad and keyboard dont function.

Connected a USB MOUSE and cool the mouse works when touchpad is not working, but when connecting a USB keyboard, Windows 10 acts the same with the USB attached keyboard as it does with the keyboard built into the laptop.

Shut it down and removed the SSD and installed the original hard drive back and Windows 7 works fine and the keyboard and touchpad have no issues so the HARDWARE didnt fail in the middle of the SSD and Windows 10 upgrade.

So I am calling it quits on this laptop for upgrading Windows and instead will repurpose it for a Linux Mint build I guess instead. Windows 7 was starting to get laggy on it after the many updates since I bought it almost 10 years AGO. I was hoping to have it run better with a SSD and Windows 10. At least I didnt burn a Windows 10 activation yet on this build and was able to find out beforehand that its not going to run Windows 10.

Toshiba support shows a driver for the keyboard/touchpad dated 2016 but the only way to get 10 on this build might be to clone the HDD to the SSD and have it boot as Windows 7 and then upgrade it from there vs clean install of 10 and well this old laptop will probably run much better with SSD and Linux instead.

Posting this here in case anyone decides to upgrade their Toshiba Laptop from an older version of Windows to Windows 10 that the Synaptics driver that Windows 10 tries to implement is completely poison to Windows 10 running properly on a laptop.Typo update: Windows 10 not Windows 7

Well this is the first time some one has used my gift cards balances from Walmart I had two cards that were sent to me via email not bought in a store every thing was used up except a nickle. I am looking for a pc I can do 4k editing. I have been learning premiere pro on my current laptop. (painstakingly slow)
and want to upgrade.
One has 16gb and the other 32bg does this make much of a difference? also the graphics card RTX 2080 vs RTX 2080ti

I have found a couple of pc I like the look of (mind your I am no expert) hence me asking.
One is i9 990kf, 16gm memory, RTX 2080 8gb, 512GB NVMe SSD / 3TB HDD.

Regarding your question - both machines have benefits. Strictly speaking the i9-9900k might be a little more powerful, but they are roughly equivalent. The i9 has the same # of cores and roughly the same cache as he Ryzen, the same TDP, and the clock speeds are comparable.

The major benefit of the Ryzen is the extra RAM. If you're editing in 4K, it can really help. Premiere will gobble up whatever RAM you can throw at it, you will feel the difference while editing, especially if using MULTIPLE layers and effects, and your renders will probably get a noticeable speedup.

I worked professionally with Premiere/Final Cut/AVID machines for MANY years and honestly if I were you I'd probably go for the Ryzen. But, I think either of those COMPUTERS you listed will suit you well for working with 4k footage.Thanks for your reply. I feel better knowing that either machine will work for me. I did not mention
that until now I have used proxies with premiere pro. Those machines I listed will they work with the files as is,
or would I still be better off using proxies?

JOE BUSUTTILWindows 10 should have the  windows media player built into it by default.

If you type Windows Media Player into the search at bottom left it should give you an option to launch Windows Media Player. With Windows Media Player open you can select your audio CD and play it.

I ADDED a screenshot showing where to type that search for the app circled in red. Then click on the Windows Media Player that I show circled in green.I am currently in Windows 10, I know what you MEAN, so many changes here I can see. The new system use a new thing to play videos called "video and tv", there is no shortcut of it in START menu, or it cannot be located in harddisk at least I cannot find it, if anyone can make a shortcut to it, please tell me too. So, doing all the typing and search each time is too uneasy, I found or discovered a tricky way to be easier, this is what I do:

First, try to open a folder, any folder, you can do it by clicking on the yellow icon in Taskbar to the bottom of screen, you will see a "arrow up", click on it will exit one directory level, eventually you will get to a window showing all devices and drives (YEAH), there you can right click the CD drive and select "Play" but this is not what I mean, I mean you do it every time will also be uneasy, "up" one more level, here you should see many things such as OneDrive, network, recycle bin etc. and mostly importantly the "my computer" or "this machine" whatever it's called, make a shortcut of it to the desktop (just drag it out the desktop, you cannot make a copy of it anyway, only create shortcut is allowed), now this is what I mean, I can have all the drives accessed or viewed easily, and right click to play it or open it, like the old easy way.feel free to ignore the above post.Why ? ?...it's only 8 steps to play a CD ...

Hey guys i need your help. I'm looking for a programme that allow to play records (that i make) through microphone line.

I work as a pollster at home, on my private computer (with Windows 10). And as it happens on this job, people quite rarely agree for an interview so most of the time i repeat the same introduction and this kills my throat. So I would like to record some of the lines I say and play it. But I can't use any binds, because the programme that I use to do interviews doesn't allow me to basically do anything. So I need a programme that could play the records through microphone line, so my programme would THINK that I am saying it and allow it to play to my interviews.

I have tried to use a programme called Resanance, but I had one big problem with it. I could only play records or only speak with my interviews. I can't do both at the same time, and I don't know why. Maybe it's my fault, but I think I've tried every possible combinations with my settings and it didn't work. So maybe you guys could help me find the right programme? It can be paid.

My first knee-jerk is that you need voice lessons. Anybody who needs to use their voice in BUSINESS dealing needs voice  training.I used to be a professional and could talk for hours on the radio WITHOUT getting horse very often.

But you might want to make a hardware solution. You could make a DIY mixer to  merge a RECORDING with the mic input at the physical hardware. The recordings would have to be on a separate device. Like an OLD cassette recorder.

It is a super simple passive analog mixer. 





Records played and input through Line-In will be best, then microphone in microphone jack.

If your performing a live stream than the website that your doing your stream from will work with your computer and its various inputs to blend Line-In from Record Player and Microphone. However you may need to adjust the advanced properties in the audio controls to do the fade in and out controls vs cutting in which mic unless cutting in with mic is what you want to do.

I have never done any live streaming, all my stuff was stuff that was recorded and edited and then submitted on youtube for people to see/hear. Dave i don't do it by live streams. I use voice program called "Cadas Softphone" and the problem with it is that I can't change anything in this program except recording device (so i can only choose which mic i use). That's why i need my records to go through microphone path.

e: I use audacity to record my lines in to mp3 file but i need to play it through softphone and i don't know how.I would go to a local music store the type that sells instruments and mixing equipment and check to see what they have for a low cost mixer. This way both can be on the Mic Jack to PC. They come with knobs and/or slider controls for blending 2 audio sources into a single input. Any other ideas, guys?I'm curious as to how you are conducting these interviews. Are they on-line or some other method?

Until about 2 weeks ago I had no problems receiving email from one friend.   Now I do not receive them.  He is not on a blocked senders list.  I use OUTLOOK for my email program.   Although my ISP is through a company called Spectrum,  my emails are still with Earthlink because I had service with them for years and it's too big a pain to change it.   I have him added as a CONTACT in both Earthlink and Outlook.    He is getting no bounce back messages.  I can't see his messages iin Earthlink's web mail either.  They also don't SHOW up on my phone.  I have checked junk mail, suspect spam and KNOWN spam folders.   Any ideas what may be going on and how to fix it?

I'm not having this problem with anyone else.

Before anyone screams, "PSU!" I'll say, I have replaced ALL the hardware.  Okay, anyway ...

The PC in question is a home built that I've had for many years.  At some point during the PAST year, it began randomly shutting down (as in pull plug from WALL style, not BSOD and not reboot.  Shut down BUT internal power light REMAINS on).  I checked all the typical culprits: power supply, ram (memtest), video card, monitored CPU temps, nothing out of the ordinary.  So I systematically began replacing parts.  The first to go was the motherboard as I DID feel there may have been a crack in it.  Sometimes simply tapping the desk would cause the PC to shut down, which is why I went that route before the PSU.  So with the new mobo I went with new RAM and followed with a new video card.  Still shutting down.  Replaced the 7200 RPM HDD with a SSD (boot times cut IMMENSELY!  If anyone doesn't have a SSD, I can't recommend it enough!  But PC still shut down - eyeroll).  Changed the 600 watt PSU with a brand new 750 watt, just in case I was now under-powered (though everything showed that 600 should do fine).  First try, PC shut down.  Finally, I replaced the CPU (same one: AMD FX-8350 black edition). When I pulled the old one I noticed it had a couple bent pins .. thought maybe that was an issue?  Made sure the socket was clean and clear and popped the new one in, greased and put on the heat sink and fan (not stock cooler, aftermarket similar to Coolermaster Hyper 212.  Been using Core Temp and hasn't gone over 50C.  The shutdowns persist.  So tonight I began pulling memory sticks to check for bad ram.  All checked out okay .. or, all are bad?  Shutdowns occurred each time.  I've found a way to duplicate the failure consistently: Start Steam, run Arma 3 .. crashes just after loading screen goes dark and before "APEX" screen comes on.  Temps looked good all the way.  It shuts down at other times.  My daughter will be playing Sims3 and it just randomly shuts down, no consistent trigger.  She may be playing minecraft all day and no issues .. then something will cause it to shut down and rest of the day, it's hit or miss.

All that said, there is one thing that is different.  Windows 10 - I used to have Windows 7 before putting in the SSD.  God knows I HATE Windows 10 for many reasons but, the shut downs WERE occurring before that switch as well.  I'm just about at my wits end here as to what's causing this.  Anyone with ANY thoughts (legit of course, not smarta$$ like, "Buy a Mac") are greatly appreciated.  Oh and, I neglected to say this cause I feel it goes without saying but in case some wonder, yes I have all updated drivers and Windows updates.  And with the SSD came a full and clean install of EVERYTHING so this is basically a brand new computer but still suffers from the shutdown issues so I'm completely baffled.

Other location for concern would be if the CPU heatsink has been replaced as for if the Tach to the CPU Fan is flawed and the motherboard doesnt see its signal as it spinning when it needs to be it will shutdown to protect the system from a melt down. So CPU Heatsink may need to be replaced to eliminate the CPU FAN shutting it down if you havent already tried this as the cause. The temperature doesnt need to climb to a hot temp on boards just if the main board expects the fan to be spinning and it doesnt see it as spinning it will just drop to a total power outage like condition like what your getting for symptoms.

In the BIOS there should be Cool n'Quiet available for a setting as well as calibrating the CPU fan for your main board. Before swapping heatsink with a new one with new fan I'd go through the FAN speed calibration process where it sends the CPU FAN PWM signals and learns what PWM output creates what RPM speed. Maybe its something as simple as a lagging PWM to RPM ratio or something like that that is tricking the main board into thinking the CPU fan is dying running slower RPMs then it thinks it should be for PWM output.Hi

Well i think that would be an issue for the first none start i just wonder what other damage the pins not connecting and possible shorting to adjacent pins may have done. If you still have the CPU with the bent pins can you post a picture  then i can check the AMD FX-8350 pin out to see what could be damaged on the motherboard or other components.

Also if you have an older graphics card you can try it.Whoa, had a vacation and then forgot this was here.  Anyway...

DaveLembke: Do not have a battery backup.  CPU fan is operating and being detected in BIOS.  I'm showing 32.0C for CPU Temp and CPU Fan Speed 1610 RPM.  Also, don't know if this matters cause I didn't touch it but, CPU Warning Temp and CPU Fail Warning are both disabled.

Lisa_maree: It's possible the bent/broken pins could cause an issue but remember, this all started before the pins got bent.

And I found another way to cause it to fail on command .. start "Tower 3D Pro" and it IMMEDIATELY shuts down.  It SEEMS like graphics intensive programs/games cause it to fail quickly but, I GUESS that could also be a memory load issue or even a HDD/SDD transfer issue?  Most of the time it shuts down when you perform an action, often starting a demanding program but sometimes even clicking on youtube will crash it.  And today, it has decided that it doesn't want to start at all.  Intermittently of course, nothing 100% consistent.

Question: I wouldn't have thought the keyboard could be a culprit but, my daughter has told me sometimes the keyboard keys go out of whack and she unplugs it and plugs it back in.  It's an LED keyboard and it's been suggested that it may be drawing extra power away from the system?  Any thoughts?  Thanks!Bemt pins mean all bets are off...as to the keyboard...replace or swap it out...Well apparently I got a dud PSU.  After replacing it the first time, first thing it did was crash so I figured that wasn't the problem.  But after a full day of not being able to reach the post screen before shutting down, I decided to get a new one and low and behold, not a single shutdown for days no matter what I've done with it.

ImnoGuru.Usually there is a combination of buttons that let's you take a screenshot. If Memory serves my Nexus 6 will take a screen capture if volume down and then the power button is pressed, for example. It varies with different models. According to this That phone uses a similar setup.

Figured I'd see what you all have for ideas on a solution for my supervisors 93 year OLD mother. She is deaf and she cant hear a phone ringing to know its ringing. I suggested adding a strobe LIGHT that would flash when phone is ringing so she knew when a call was coming in, but he said he doesnt like the idea of a strobe light.

His request is that he wants to be able to text on his android phone in an app and have the text APPEAR big on a 32" screen that would be next to the television where she sits at most of the day so that when he needs to get a hold of his mother she would see the text on the 32" PC monitor to the side of the TV. Her eye sight is good but she cant hear.

One idea I have is that she has a facebook page with the IM open and he messages her facebook account from the android device, however he wants the large text only on the screen and nothing else displayed if thats possible. So not sure if there are any addons for facebook to make the IM full screen and then increase the font size to huge or if there is a better method of getting large text to PC screen.

Initially he hit me up asking if he could send the message via SMS and have the PC get that text message, but I told him that I am not aware of any easy way to get SMS to a PC. I stated that if she had a newer android phone that had an HDMI output you might be able to have her with a phone that is connected to a 32" TV to the side of the TV and go that route but not sure if you would be able to get the font of the text as big as you want it with it casted to TV through HDMI to phone.

So my thought is to avoid SMS and use a different method such as a regular IM vs Text Message which requires a SMS supported device to view.

So what suggestions to you all have to help him out? (Maybe an app already exists that both of us are not aware of.)

Note: Added another idea but there might be a better solution. A PC with a video card with 2 displays. One with facebook open. Other with text to be viewed in large text on a browser. I run a macro that parses the information from facebook IM and adds it to a HTML file. The browser is running a javascript or another time delay macro that performs a F5 refresh to the browser that updates every 15 seconds refreshing the webpage with the latest text to be displayed as large text.DaveLembke,

Some Android devices can create test from your VOICE. I do not like to text on my smartphone, so I dilate text by voice when doing a chat by text.

I have low vision. What helps me are very powerful reading classes.  However, they only work at short distance, so I have to hold the Android up to my face.

Both monitors I use on my desktop are 32 inch TV sets. The both have HDMI inputs. On one I can put a chrome cast or other  device and send the android screen to the TV set on the other HDMI port. Huge text size.

I don't understand why my computer loads pages slowly and doesn't want to stream longer videos (like movies).  It will play the audio of the videos but the IMAGES keep freezing up.  I have 6 gigs of RAM so that should be plenty.  My last computer only had 4 gigs and I didn't have this problem with that computer.  There doesn't seem to be any programs or apps running in the background.  I have tried different browsers and it doesn't make a difference, so it's not the browser.  I have also deleted browser cache and cookies and even tried closing all but one window.  Didn't help.  I tested my download speed and it said 44 gigabytes per second, so that should be fine.  What am I missing?  What else COULD cause slow loading pages and video streaming issues?  I tested my memory with Windows memory diagnostic and it found no errors.  If any of my six gigs of RAM weren't working properly it would have showed an error right?Today my monitor went black for a second and then came BACK on.  A message said my AMD display drivers stopped working for a second, then it fixed itself.  I've never gotten such a message before, but could it be the display drivers causing my slow loading pages and video streaming issues? Yes.I checked for an updated graphics driver at AMD's website and they don't seem to have one.  Mine is an AMD Radeon HD 7340.  They have other AMD Radeon HD's, but not one for 7340.  Am I screwed?  Does that mean there is no way to update my graphics driver?  I assume a graphics driver is the same thing as a display driver right?If it were me i would revert back to the ORIGINAL drivers that shipped with the card and see if that helps the ISSUE...I don't have the original drivers, somebody gave me this computer.  Unless that is the original drivers.

for some reason i am encountering some issue while connect laptop to WIFI. it show a yellow sign with a exclamation MARK on it not letting me connect however i am sure the networks is there is any particular way i can be connect to wifi? thanks.i had restart the computer (something which was trying to avoid because i did not want my computer to update to newer version of WIN 10) seem to take care of the wifi issue however now my interface look a bit different including the background screen color its the windows LOGO but its more of a light-blue color. is there a way i can revert back to the darker-blue windows logo like before? i check in personalize but it only showed 4 other images, HOPING there a way to revert to the old win 10 thank you.

I've used kinect for 3D scanning from time to time but now the quality is simply not enough.

I'm LOOKING at all this professional 3d scanners and i'm dyyying to use them. But the price.. It's too expensive And I don't think I scan that much that I can afford one of them and this will be a wise decision. By the way on of manufactures also offers scanning services. (Not themself, but I hope they can be trusted). How to chose the proper company? I've never tried any outsource. According to  (Denver). Not sure it's a good Idea to write to all of them.. I NEED to scan moderate AMOUNT of different size objects for future animation. It's a single time project and this it another reason why buying a scanner is not a solution.

Google has proceeded to lock me out of my smart phone. Yes, it must be my own fault. Computers are never wrong, so it must be me. I noticed my Samson smart phone was getting very full of stuff. I no longer use this phone asked my main phone, so I THOUGHT I would just wipe it clean and use it as a nice MP3 player. Well, I Google the instructions on how to reset an android device and got the directions that were specific to this particular MODEL of Samsung galaxy. I am very sure I did the instructions as required, but I forgot what email address I had used to log this thing into G-mail. That was a big mistake.

Now Google will not let me use a device because it claims I didn't illegal reset to wipe out the system. It won't let me go any further until it confirms my identity and email address. I went through that for maybe two or three hours or more, I don't EVEN remember. Now here I am two days later and I don't know what to do with my galaxy smartphone. Of course, I have a working phone, that's not the problem.
As explained above, I wanted to clear the device out so I could use it to store some MP3 piles that I like to listen to. I had no idea that I had to remember my Gmail address and password that had been used with this device. And in the instructions I got off of Google I don't recall it saying anything like that.
I suppose that putting this trend here on the form is not going to do me any good and may be is just a waste of time. But I put it here to see if I'm the only idiot I get stuck with this kind of stuff or doesn't happen to other people to?
So there you have it. I tried to wipe my smart phone clean and Google says I can't do that unless I give my former Gmail address and password user that device. Is this something new? As I recall, in the past I was able to reset android device without going through that kind of security check. Did I miss something?

Don't try the link you provided. It wants you to install some random software and I'd bet it's malware.

This is Factory Reset Protection and was added in Android 5.1. This is turned on automatically when you link the phone to a Google Account. The idea behind this feature is that only the person who had the phone would know and be able to log in to the previously sync'd E-mail address. This makes the phone pretty much useless to somebody if stolen. (Sort of like an iCloud lock for iPhones).

Whatever guide you found was probably outdated, and didn't include a note that you should remember your E-mail account and password. Or maybe it assumed that was sort of general advice.Thank you! That was what I needed to know! 

So I started over from the factory reset and this time I tried my old name I use on g-mail. I used my current password and it WORKED! Happy day!

I don't want to use it *censored*  a phone. So I turned of the protect features. In fact, it does not have a SIM card, so  s thief could not make phone calls.

Check all your google accounts for the Samsung phone you have.

When you find it remove/delete it from the account, then when you factory reset leave it off the wireless and set it up without a google account. This will only  be a problem if you want to use the app store  which will need you to log in to the App store NOT the Phone with a google account.  Lisa_maree,
That is a good idea. I went to use the old smartphone for something other than regular BROWSING. I I will take it off my Google account and remove the stuff I don't need. Thanks.

Running WINDOWS 10.

Black screen, mouse only before login.  No login.  I can HEAR the system sound that one usually HEARS when loaded.
Switched video card - no luck.
Switched monitor and cable - no luck.
Nothing HAPPENS on keyboard for CONTROL - alt - delete etc to bring up task manager.
Repeated on / off, etc.

I have a Packard bell onetwo all in one.  I want to know how to ACCESS the built in freeview tv.  I cannot see it anywhere.  I've plugged the ariel in at the back but nothing happens.  any HELP WOULD be appreciated.Other people may not REALISE that "Freeview" is the UK's free-to-air digital TV (the kind you get through an antenna)

What a great device to use to PUT videos on from computer to PLAY on any tvAdd videos to USB and BUY Media player about $50.00 on ebay...plug the media player in to the TV via HDMI cable, insert USB into media Player and watch any movie on the USB...many smart TVs can just plug the USB into the USB port on the TV.
