Answer» take a look... http://www.artlebedev.com/everything/optimus/ take a look... http://www.artlebedev.com/everything/optimus/Miss-read, post corrected. Although the demo version shows a Mac keyboard layout, its supposed to work for every OS, and of course, the BUTTONS are changeable. What I meant was just a flat (maybe curved) SURFACE, like an image. Any program COULD have a custom keyboard layout. That's one COOL keyboard there, Homer. I hope Microsoft makes it first!Quote I don't get the deal with these TV COMPUTERS. Ok having them to manage movie files and stuff I can understand, but I don't see why that would need such good components. And a graphics card? I use my computer to play games, and my TV to watch TV... Well you would have a wide screen T.V for normall games, it would look really cool! ChrisIf a perfect PC were to be designed, there wouldn't be a need for new computers anymore and companies would lose business; so whatever you expect from future technology, expect for there to be something left out.Quote instead of wide-screen, go get a beamer! ever played GTA VC on ur wall? i did. its recommended that you do not play games on a projection-type television. let me give you a qoute directly from the XBOX users manual. *AHEM* "Do not use with certain televisions. Some televisions, especially front or rear projection types, can be damaged if any video games, including XBOX games, are played on them."...huh? now take a deep breath and review what you just posted quatroking. Quote My technical teacher, (which is a runescape maniac) plays a lots of video games on his beamer he have on school. including games like Mortal Kombat, Need for speed, Far Cry and other intensive action games. The beamer has been used over 3-4 years and still has NO death pixels or is acting weird. manuals are always overheat. Some one get a bit over excited there? Why not just have horriblly painful surgery to have a computer stuck in your skull? When you want to upgrade, just have more surgery! That might make PC repair a little more chalenging though... |

Solve : Can't connect to company intranet? |
Answer» Hello, I hope someone can help me. I have a LAPTOP. It is HP COMPAQ NX7010. Microsoft Windows XP Pro, Service Pack 2, Intel Pentium M Processor 1700MHz 592MHz, 512 MB of RAM, 55.8GB HD. I work at differant locations throughout the city and I use my laptop at each location. I can connect to the internet wirelessly everywhere I go without any problems. I can also connect to our company intranet at any of the various locations I work from. The other day I went to my homeoffice to do some work and tried to open the company intranet just as I had earlier in the day from a differant location. But I got the "page not found" error. I wasn't sure if it was just me or not so I asked some of the other people working in the office if they could connect to the company intranet, and they were all able to do so. Normally when I click the intranet button from my company website a white page pops open with a smaller window sitting on top of it. The smaller window is the "Connect to mycompany" window, where I put in my user name and password. Then the smaller window dissappers and the larger white page now displays the intranet homepage. But this time when I clicked on the intranet button the only thing that POPPED up was the "page not found" error.... the little "Connect to mycompany" window never opened. I couldn't figure out what the problem was, so I turned off the laptop for the night. The next day when I was around the city I tried showing some of the other users the problem I experienced the night before, hoping someone would be able to help me fix the problem. But now I wasn't GETTING the error. I was able to access the company intranet without a problem. So at that point I thought the problem was fixed but was still puzzled as to what had happened the night before. Later that day I got called into the homeoffice to do some work, and guess what.... I experienced the same problem as the day before. And just as the day before, nobody else was experiencing the problem. My internet connection works from all locations, and logging on to the company intranet works everywhere except for when I'm in the homeoffice. Does anyone have any suggestions? You have provided a lot of information, which is brilliant and refreshing. Unfortunately though, we need more. It sounds like you have a bespoke kind of connection to your office, and you may need to be guided by your I.T. department. Sounds like a problem with the router at your home office, but without a LOT more information about your equipment and network connections, we're pretty much stabbing in the dark. Thanks for your reply ROB. I ended up figuring out the problem. It was such as easy fix I feel dumb I didn't catch it sooner. I went into the TCP/IP properties for the wireless connection and found that someone entered a static IP address for the DNS server. I simply changed the settings to Obtain DNS server address automatically and everything now works fine.Great! Thanks for reporting back. |

I can upload entire directories at once, instead of having to upload files FILE-by-file...QuoteUNLIMITED BANDWIDTH!!!Yes, but have you ever checked out freewebs.comhttp://members.freewebs.com/page.jsp?page=ourServices Plus: No limits on other services within Mbhosting like Freewebs. For example, freewebs limits the amount of polls and forms you have, when Mbhosting allows unlimited. Plus with Mbhosting, you get MySQL databases, more useful than you would think! cPanel makes it all worth the while. The only thing with Mbhosting is that it requires that the person has some knowledge of building web pages since there is no site creator for you. But its easy, MSWORD can do it for you.Yes, having to upload file by file is kinda annoying and I do have enough knowledge of sitebuilding to start from scratch. Solve : Which connection is faster, dial up 0r cable?? |
Answer» Hey which one is faster, Cable or a dial up?!... ...Can ANYONE reads better. It also depends on where you live...in the U.K. some DSL Telcos are offering speeds as fast and faster than cable.dail up comes threw you phone line. and if you would look at the size of your phone line and compare it to the size of your cable, then you would be able to tell that much more info can come threw the cable and greater speeds then dail up, but like patio said it depends on where you live and what is offfered.Well, looks can be deceiving. L0L. If you cut a cable line and look at it, you see one strand of metal wire in the center, surrounded by insulation and sheilding layers. A telephone line has more strands of metal wire but less thickness of SURROUNDING material. And, keep in mind that DSL looks like, indeed is, normal telephone line, at least from the main box outside a building to the phone line in the building, yet provides much faster data transfer than DSL. I'm on DSL. I needed no installation of additional lines inside my residence to use DSL; it uses the regular telephone wiring.Quote dail up comes threw you phone line. and if you would look at the size of your phone line and compare it to the size of your cable, then you would be able to tell that much more info can come threw the cable and greater speeds then dail up, This would be true in plumbing only...remember looks can be decieving.Okay, a joke, REALLY... but most will see the grain of truth... The more it costs, the faster it goes! Good luck in your search. A note about purchasing DSL vs Cable vs Satellite DSL is probably the most affordable High Speed Internet (HSI) connection that you can get. It can run at many megabytes per a second, (Though average seems to be around 728KBS - 1MBPS) , and is capable of loading web pages fast. Cable is best for businesses, simply because it does run fast and can provide content on demand when you want it. Not only that, but it sends and receives fast. (As Patio said, DSL can be faster than Cable) Satellite has a few PROBLEMS, but is a great solution for anyone who lives out in the middle of nowhere without DSL. The only problem is that Satellite is not great for servers or for sending large amounts of data because it sends slower then it receives. (Normally sends half the speed it receives. ) Cable is best when it comes to speed (unless you are near your DSL provider and can obtain even higher speeds) and is probably a more practical option for servers and businesses. DSL is great for the average home user, its fast, and browses the web fast. Satellite is best for people who don't live in an area providing DSL or Cable. Another note: Although in many cases, Cable is faster than DSL, (but sometimes its slower than DSL), you will not notice it when browsing the web. Servers are to blame for the non-noticed increase in Internet speed. When downloading files, you will definitely notice a difference. How satellite Internet works: http://computer.howstuffworks.com/question606.htm Why the difference in my Cable Modem speed? http://computer.howstuffworks.com/question589.htm Hope that helps. I know my writings are somewhat tedious to read... |

Solve : wireless network printer? |
Answer» OK i was on the phone for almost 2.5 hours last night with dell tring to get my printer hooked up so i can print over the wireless network i put up last night. but dell said the only way to use the printer was to turn off the firewalls on both computers. i think there is a better way than that. both dells both xp home sp2 both clean ones a desktop (where the modem and router are) the other is my laptopNot much to GO on, but just some thoughts: If you use MAC address FILTERING on your router, make sure you added the MAC address of the printer to the allowable list Check your firewall, make sure the internal IP address of the printer is allowed to pass through. How is this all setup? Is there a printer server that needs to be configured? I'm sure others will have some more ideas/solutions. 8-)the printer is hooked up to my desktop. how do i do the mac adress and ip stuff?? thanks, unlovedwarriorYou're right in thinking that the Dell advisers (as usual) don't know what they're talking about, not if you deviate from their "script". Have you enabled file and print sharing on the desktop computer? If so you then need to share the printer from the desktop (right click-->sharing) and install it from the laptop. (Add new printer-->from network...) MAC/IP filtering doesn't apply in your case. Windows manages all the connection issues. If you get no joy, it may be that you need to open the NETBIOS ports on your desktop, but lets FACE that if we come to it.i did the file printing sharing i did install the print on my laptop i can print from it but i have to turn off the firewallsYou should be able to configure your firewall with "exceptions" to let your printer work. Alan <>< how do i do that in zonealarm and in pc-cilin internet sercuirty I don't have PC-Cillin Internet Security and Zonealarm is set up on my laptop (which isn't on at the moment), but you should be able to get into each program, poke around in Preferences / Options / etc. and configure your printer there. Sorry I can't be more specific. I don't RUN wireless printer servers on my network and had a dickens of-a-time getting one set up on my landlords home network Alan <>< thnx for the information |

Solve : weak wireless signal? |
Answer» My family just moved and being in a new house we decided to switch to wireles DSL. We set it up so that my moms pc still runs wired but mine being upstairs and away from the router is wireles. The problem is that i get a very weak signal and i play online games (if you have an end game char in WoW then you know why this is a huge problem.). Now i dont want to have to buy something so are there any ways to boost the signal for free? i know i could in most cases move the router but there is only one phone line in this house (yeah its that old). For a reciever i have a linksys "compact wireless-G USB network adapter with speedboost" and the router is what the phone company gave us its a westell high speed router...i know nothing more about it. if you guys know of any way to help that WOULD be beyond great You could go out and buy some better antenna's for the router, assuming that the router allows adding better ones to it. These can be found many places, Walmart even sells them. you could be right but; I basically live at our Walmart couple days a week, never saw any antenna's for for a router ? ohh-well maybe try restarting your computer and unlpugging and replug the adapter in.. did this just start happening or has it been happening??its been weak sense i hooked it up last night... though it SEEMS to fluctuate it was really bad when i went to sleep but now it is at good... i will be going to wall-mart some time today i will check and see if they have any antennasis it secure or unsecure?? if not then ppl can use you signal and make it really slow..lol i hope its secure i think it is though...you need a WIP code to use it....even if it wasnt i wouldnt be to worried about people war driving around where i liveits secure if you need to put some kind of code in it to access it.. heres a thought maybe the signal is weak because you are using different products a linksys adapter and and whatever router.. but im not sureQuote QuoteQuote<snip>quote] Quoteironicly i go to a wallmart on the new hampshire mass border also lol so i doubt i will find one but it dont hurt to try lolQuote<snip>quote] I live in the U.K so im not sure if you have these in the states but... you can get this thing that all you do is plug into a main socket and it acts as an antena. Basicaly it jsut plugs into the mains and recieves and sends data, ive never had the need for one but they could be worth a look. Ive found this one for you but as you STATED ealier you have a Linksys and this is a NETGEAR. Im not sure how many you can have in the house though. Ive found an example for you: http://www.netgear.co.uk/extra/wallplugged_range_extender_wgxb102.php Chris |

Solve : MP3 Players 100 million by 2011 ?? |
Answer» Just go into your local Electronics store. I dont live in the U.S so i cant be much more help, sorry. QuoteI don't have an Mp3 player. They are a redundant ITEM.:-? How so? Constantly listening to music is dangerous and distracting. Since when is the city a safe place? It ain't in my EYES, people with bad intentions on every street corner. I really wish they'd make it legal for me to carry a firearm but I guess sleeping with a baseball bat next to my bed will have to do. Besides that, it dulls the senses. And makes you go deaf. Huh? What?Quote Huh? What?(I second that)Quote QuoteHaving an MP3 player doesn't mean you're "Constantly listening to music". Well, maybe it does for some people but that's an individual choice. I don't Constantly listen to music; I occasionally listen.QuoteI don't have an Mp3 player. They are a redundant item.:-? How so? And, as far it dulling the senses, I believe it depends on what type of music you listen to, the amount of time, the volume level, etc. Indeed, contrary to what you say, some evidence indicates listening to certain types of music at certain times may increase mental functioning. See: Music and learning. And, concerning deafness, that is due to LACK of awareness of the consequences of long term exposure to high noise levels and absence of good judgement in listening to music. Constant exposure to very loud noise of any type can cause damage to one's hearing. I don't enjoy having music playing at a volume that shakes the walls; those who do are at risk. By the way, I don't know what city you're talking about, but I'm glad I don't live there. Yes, I have an iPod *hang head*. It has its Pros and Cons. But for me the cons outway the pros. I really need to get me something else that is not an iPod. I have had this one for about 15 months...Also, I can't STAND not having something to listen to so having a portable media playing device is a must for me!I'm a prof/musician, have been for 32 yrs I don't have one Quote Im the only guy with a Ipod? loli got one tooQuote QuoteI would only want one so I could hold 60 gigs of music... and video... not that I actualy have that much...Im the only guy with a Ipod? loli got one too Does anyone here actualy have 60 gigs of music, or a full 80GB or 60GB ipod?i had roughly 30 gigs of music on my high school student account.Well over, if I burned all my CD's to MP3! Quote Well over, if I burned all my CD's to MP3!For some strange reason, I just cant imagine you listing to music. What kind do you listen to?I wonder why not? I am a classic rock kind of guy (grew up with it) but also enjoy jazz, blues, some country, and a few current artists (though not many!) Rap is not music, so that doesn't count, of course. Maybe we should have a post section where we list the 3 most listened to CD's currently? He is disabled and this is the only THING he REALLY has to the outside world...can someone help. I really hope this is in the correct place. There's only one Windows 2000 Rob, it's the one the Professionals use.*cough* ;DIt did not even get that far. I ended up getting someone to go out there for him. Dad said that the battery (?) needed to be changed (it is a desktop) and that there was a virus that caused the password not to work. The guy fixed all of this for 30 dollars. Thanks you all! I feel CONFIDENT that if it did not get fixed that you all would have eventually have been able to help!! I am glad to be a member now!30 bucks? That's pretty good value for money. But not as good value as US!!! |

Solve : ethernet or usb? |
Answer» Quote What was the POINT of your LAST post? USB networking IMPOSES a heavier load on the system processor than ethernet does, so there might be a performance impact in USING USB for networking: this is unlikely to affect your network speeds, but might affect the percentage of processor time available to applications. |

I kinda like the last SENTENCE in this article about- "where is the hardrive" One of the things missing will be ANY hard drive. I like the crank on the side, though. Answer» why is it that when I or someone with a hotmail email, forwards an email with photos with wording below it, that the receiver gets them seperated? People who forward E-mails should be knee-capped. And fed to the Rabbits...well to put all of you at ease, I get no spam at my hotmail, yay, and the forwards Im talking about are girl stuff like ANIMATED greetings , man bashing, woman bashing, redneck humor, and junk.Im online about three times a week , dont have time for much. so your saying to copy and paste, but then wouldnt that be an attatchment? many times when people forward me attatchments I open it and theres just a whole long paragraph of jumbled up letters. I dont get that at all. Im about as computer savy as my grandma. But Ill try it out thanks.Quote but then wouldnt that be an attatchment? No. You paste it into a new email. Solve : Attention Physicists? |
Answer» Ok I am BUILDING a project for my Physics class, and I would like some ideas. What I have is an insulated enclosed container, only about 1’x1’x1’. Inside the box, I am trying to produce as MUCH heat as possible, as efficiently as possible. I have a rotating wheel inside of the box, so I would like to use that to produce the heat. The wheel doesn’t have much power so it can’t do anything too extravagant. I was thinking about maybe setting it up to generate electricity which would produce heat. Any kind of friction would… Oh one last thing, I don’t want to use the sun or anything like that, but I’ll take anything to build off of, Thanks! electrical heaters need alot of power to start producing heat i really would not recommend electric heating. Thanks for the helpful reply! I wasn't thinking so much electrical heating as generating the electricity itself.i failed physics. What can i see the TEACHER was hot............ R0SSQuote i failed physics. What can i see the teacher was hot............ Well then you should know all about heat! I'll get my coat.Quote i failed physics. What can i see the teacher was hot............
