Solve : weak wireless signal? |
|
Answer» My family just moved and being in a new house we decided to switch to wireles DSL. We set it up so that my moms pc still runs wired but mine being upstairs and away from the router is wireles. The problem is that i get a very weak signal and i play online games (if you have an end game char in WoW then you know why this is a huge problem.). Now i dont want to have to buy something so are there any ways to boost the signal for free? i know i could in most cases move the router but there is only one phone line in this house (yeah its that old). For a reciever i have a linksys "compact wireless-G USB network adapter with speedboost" and the router is what the phone company gave us its a westell high speed router...i know nothing more about it. if you guys know of any way to help that WOULD be beyond great You could go out and buy some better antenna's for the router, assuming that the router allows adding better ones to it. These can be found many places, Walmart even sells them. you could be right but; I basically live at our Walmart couple days a week, never saw any antenna's for for a router ? ohh-well maybe try restarting your computer and unlpugging and replug the adapter in.. did this just start happening or has it been happening??its been weak sense i hooked it up last night... though it SEEMS to fluctuate it was really bad when i went to sleep but now it is at good... i will be going to wall-mart some time today i will check and see if they have any antennasis it secure or unsecure?? if not then ppl can use you signal and make it really slow..lol i hope its secure i think it is though...you need a WIP code to use it....even if it wasnt i wouldnt be to worried about people war driving around where i liveits secure if you need to put some kind of code in it to access it.. heres a thought maybe the signal is weak because you are using different products a linksys adapter and and whatever router.. but im not sureQuote QuoteQuote<snip>quote] Quoteironicly i go to a wallmart on the new hampshire mass border also lol so i doubt i will find one but it dont hurt to try lolQuote<snip>quote] I live in the U.K so im not sure if you have these in the states but... you can get this thing that all you do is plug into a main socket and it acts as an antena. Basicaly it jsut plugs into the mains and recieves and sends data, ive never had the need for one but they could be worth a look. Ive found this one for you but as you STATED ealier you have a Linksys and this is a NETGEAR. Im not sure how many you can have in the house though. Ive found an example for you: http://www.netgear.co.uk/extra/wallplugged_range_extender_wgxb102.php Chris |
