Hi everyone!

I almost lost all hope so I came here.. Please help me.

Recently I encountered a deadly and very persistent virus. It disabled my operating system (Windows 10) almost completely, no matter what I did (including in safe mode and with no internet), while opening countless times Microsoft's support/help page in my internet browsers.  I succeeded (barely..) to reinstall Windows (without formatting the drive), but Windows couldn't launch..

Then, after doing a low level format to both my main drive and my SSD drive, I tried to install Windows - both Windows 10 and Windows 7, but no matter what I did, Windows Setup stop responding (can't click or type anything) after a while.

Moreover, my Bios was also infected! When I opened it, the BIOS "help" window opened many times (similar to what happened in Windows) and I needed to close it again and again. So I downloaded an updated Bios in a different PC and used a flash drive to update the Bios (which solved this specific problem).

After that I also tried to remove the virus by doing a FACTORY reset to my BIOS (I short the CMOS jumper and as well as removed the battery and returned it after a minute).

All that still didn't work... The virus is still there making Windows (10 and 7) setup non responsive.

I also ran Kaspersky Rescue Disk. No THREATS were detected. Before the scan it could only find "clock skew" (since I did factory reset to my BIOS). After the scan was completed the Kaspersky's interface stop responding, exactly as in any other interfaces (Windows 7/10 setup and Windows itself before I did the format). What happens is that after a while I can move the mouse but not click on anything, and most of the times the keyboard also stop doing anything as well. Meanwhile, the hard disk and the SSD drive are both disconnected, as well as the internet, so the problem is PROBABLY with the BIOS..

One last thing - I managed to backup some of my data before doing the format. Using a flash drive I transferred my data to my laptop. I fear it might got this infection as well. It hasn't shown the same symptoms yet, but sometimes it shows a strange error that it can't recognize a usb connection (while nothing is connected).

Clearly the virus did some heavy damage.  I'll be happy if you can help me deal with this very unfortunate situation..

This is not what one would expect from a Virus and there isn't any virus known which WORKS to this level. The computer has a hardware FAULT, possibly an incorrect setting in the Bios or bad ram or a failing power supply.
If Alan agrees can you transfer this post to Hardware or Windows 10 section  It sounds to me like the F1 key is stuck on the keyboard. That would certainly explain constantly opening Microsoft's support/help page as well as the BIOS displaying it's help interface. The other issues could be the result of the software being flooded with F1 key inputs.

I got a new Razer Kraken with an aux input and the aux audio splitter into 2 3.5 mm aux inputs. I plugged them in and no sound came out. I messed around ALOT with my windows sound settings to no RELIEF so i looked online. I realized that the problem might be linked to my missing realtek HD audio driver. I tried for hours to install my realtek drivers but no matter what i did it would only put a file into my downloads with no driver in sight on the device MANAGER. I already looked for the UAA BUS whatever its called that sometimes conflicts with realtek but i dont have it in my device manager either. I plugged in my headphones into another device and they worked both with and without the splitter. I also tried plugging in a speaker through the aux into my computer's audio jack to no success. I've done all of the above using the headset with/without the splitter and in both front and back audio JACKS. Please Help! Windows 10 was fine few days ago and everything was alright and no problems until someday, I noticed that my laptop shut down itself then when I restarted it, I got that automating repair thing, and I kept getting it everytime I restart the laptop, so I knew the laptop had problems and I had to format it and reinstall windows 10, after reinstalling windows 10, I tried to install the updates which contain my 2 GPUs (Intel HD Graphics 3000 and AMD Radeon 7400M) and after that the resolution changed to 1600x900 which is my screen's resolution, but after the updates finished, they required me to restart the laptop so I did but after I did, laptop passed the spinning wheel of windows and after that, the screen went BLACK and the logon screen didn't come, so I had to restart it, and everytime I restart it, the screen is black as I said, so I did a system restore and everything worked but the resolution was the default one.

So my problem here is that when INSTALLING graphics drivers for AMD and Intel, screen goes black even after the restart, but when using Windows Display Adapter, everything is fine.

Things I tried:
System restore
Safe boot with networking to install/uninstall drivers
Startup repair
Installing latest drivers

And honestly I dont know what is the problem and I really want a solution for it, any help is really appreciated as I've been stuck with this problem for over 2 days

You need to install the drivers for your laptop from the laptop manufacture. If you would like to post the make and model numbers for the laptop we can check for the correct drivers and maybe if it is a Lenovo HP or Dell there is tools from these manufactures to diagnose and install the correct drivers.

So the first thing is the make and model please and Windows 10 version.    Thanks for the reply, but I already installed the drivers many times and even in safe mode but after I do, screen goes black and when I restart the laptop, screen is black again so I have to restart many times and after the last restart, screen goes back to default which is by MICROSOFT.

But my windows 10 version is x64 and my laptop is HP ProBook 4730sI wonder where you are getting the windows 10 drivers from as HP didn't write drivers for the HP ProBook 4730s running windows 10. And the drivers from microsoft cause your problem.

When i google "HP ProBook 4730s problems running windows 10" I get 1000's of hits with problems and no solutions. The Laptop has support for windows 7 or 8, you need to run either of those 2 versions for reliable operation or look for another laptop which is supported to run Windows 10.

Can I run commands from a desktop shortcut ( 3 commands )?  I want to open the command prompt ( CMD ) and i want to change the directory in the command prompt box to C:\perl.  I also want the command prompt environment to be administration.  Can I do these things in one shortcut?

Give a try for this batch script and tell me the results 

• First we launch our batch script as ADMIN
• Create our Shortcut with HotKey [CTRL+ALT+P] ; So we can launch our script in this situation too (-_°)
• Change Directory to C:\Perl

Ran as directed and got to my directory.
OK.  You understand that I would like to achieve this through use of a desktop shortcut, I hope.
Can be done to your knowledge?

In the shortcut, there are two entries you put in.  The second is the label of the shortcut.  Not even necessary to discuss.

The computer sleeps at around 20 MINUTES of IDLING instead of when it’s told to (to never sleep). This is when plugged in. Any ideas on what I can do?

I think I've realized how to solve this issue. In case anybody has this issue too, my problem was I had a Chrome extension that was specifically overriding power settings. I thought that app was only being used for my Chromebook but then realized it's also used by this Windows computer too.Glad yer fixed up...

I'm not sure if I hadn't post this in DOS section, so please forgive me.
I need to transfer data between my PC (Windows 10.1903 x64 Pro) and notebook with MS-DOS 7.10 (also Windows 3.11 for Workgroups - but without Win32s)
I want to use serial port 'cause DOS is not so familiar with USB.
I know that serial transfer was POSSIBLE even on my hobby computers - Commodore 8-bits.

But what a software to use for Windows and for DOS?
Also - can anybody recommend me important things like timing etc?
Thank you for helpUnless EITHER computer is really old (10 years or so) then all you need is a regular ETHERNET cable to PLUG inot the 2 machines to create a network where you can share folders and then use Windows Explorer to copy/paste/move files between the 2 machines as you wish.

Someone may tell you that you need a special null modem cable to do this but modern Ethernet ports are smart ENOUGH to sense what's going on and handle things internally.  However, if either one of the computers is old, it may not have a modern Ethernet port so in that case you would need the null modem cable.

Hello so my WINDOWS 10 in the HP laptop was good and EVERYTHING was fine, until the laptop shut itself down or something like that, I don't know how it happened, and after I turned on the laptop, it gave me a blue SCREEN and the cause was: 'CRITICAL PROCESS DIED', after that I restarted the laptop again and after I did restart, it said 'Automatic REPAIR' and then 'Diagnosing your PC' and after that it said 'PC could not be started or something', I tried to do startup repair but it didn't fix anything and I also tried to boot into safe mode but it also didn't work, I tried a system restore and the LAST system restore was on 3rd may, it took some time but it didn't work also, and now I'm stuck and I don't know how should I fix my windows, Please help me as I'm out of ideas and I tried to find solutions but couldn't at all, and any help is really appreciated!Similar problem with Dell windows 10.....  Hope we get lucky!!!!!!!!!!

Since I got it and set it up, my games have been crashing, but I was always kind of going over it. I tried many fixes to it but few months ago I decided to give a new graphics card a try. So I bought RX580 to replace my old one. But my games are STILL crashing, so I bought 240mm water COOLING for my CPU, didn't help. While I am playing games, FPS is HIGH and not dropping and temps are fine. I don't get any specific error message, just generic ones like sorry for inconvenience your game has crashed, and it crashes to desktop. Here is a few things I tried : reinstalling games, updating windows, updating drivers, reinstalling drivers with DDU, also tried few different graphic card drivers, disabling onboard sound devices, testing ram, testing HDD( both are perfect from testing results ), turned disk drive sleep to never, updated BIOS, I clean installed windows, tried working around antivirus and windows firewall to see if it was crashing, still no luck. Please if anyone can help, help me! Thank you!Have you checked the power supply to see if its dropping out when heavy power demands of a game running?

I really want to get a ton of photos off my phone.

I have moved a bunch of them into FOLDERS on my hard drive, but not all.

I know how to compare two directories, but here's what I'm curious about:

If I have one folder, with, say, 1,000 pictures in it (or any file, really) - let's call it "Master". And then I have a dozen folders ("Sub 1", "Sub 2"... "Sub N"), each with 300 pictures in them. How can I sift through and highlight all of the files in Master that are duped in all of the Subs, without having to go folder by folder?

Thanks. It's been running for a while. This looks like it will do what I ask! Will report back once it's done.I set it up with a subdirectory on my c: drive where I copied all my phone pics, and compared it to the external DIRECTORY where I had EVERYTHING backed up.

It returned a list - a brilliant list - of every DUPLICATE within that external directory (and didn't highlight anything on the c:, and I'm sure there's dupes in tehre).

I need to figure out how to configure it to list everything in that C: subdir that is NOT copied somewhere else.... I am sure it will do it, just gotta PLAY some more.

Took about five hours to scan and build the list.

I know how to set Default Apps in Win 10.

What I'd like, though, is to REMOVE all default apps for music. So it ALWAYS PROMPTS for what app I'd like.

Check on their Forums on how to update/re-install them without losing data...Hi ... right-click your taskbar and go to task manager.
Go to the startup tab.
Do you see anything RELATED to HP?
If so click and disable it.

This MAY be an issue with a system file being corrupt.
You can try a couple of things.

Right-click your Start button and select Command prompt (Admin) to bring up elevated Command prompt.
In Command prompt type sfc /scannow and PRESS enter.
Restart the computer.

If that doesn't work then try this,

Right-click your Start button and select Command prompt (Admin) to bring up elevated Command prompt.

In the Administrator: Command Prompt window, type the following commands.
Press Enter key after each command:

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

Important: When you run this command, DISM uses Windows Update to provide the files that are required to fix corruption.
To close the Administrator: Command prompt window, type Exit, and then press Enter.
Restart your computer.

Ok so i am having bootmgr is missing error on WINDOWS 10.I tried using my bootable usb and booted and then CLICKED repair option.Then i used cmd after that i typed diskpart command but it only shows one drive and that is usb drive itself.No other drive shows.But my bios is detecting harddrive.I also removed harddrive once and then again installed it.But still this issue persists and seems like windows is not detecting my harddrive.Plz help also a day before i was PLAYING with disk managment options bcz i wanted to extend my c drive so i shrink volume on e but it didnt work so restored volume after that i TURNED on my pc after few hours then this error STARTES showing

Forum members: I have been repeatedly trying to copy a large number of files from one directory to another on the same Windows 10 p.c. Over and over, just as the copying is about finished, I get the Windows message --file(s) cannot be copied, name(s) too long-- or at least that is the gist of the message. I have been to many websites that claim they can supply a solution. And, I have tried many of these. All no goes. Would any forum member be ABLE to suggest something that is going to work? Thank you for your feedback.  Try them in increments...Looks like the filepath has reached the Windows limit. 260 CHARACTERS. You can try few ways around this:

ii. Creating "Shares" for the purpose of the copy which shortens the path virtually.

i.e. The path is

Using the steps attached at 0.png the path will become shared (and shortened in the process) to \\YOURCOMPUTERNAME\C

Sorry, I do not understand creating "shares," however, I did try altering the registry. I am not sure if it took or not. Thank you.Why on earth edit the registry ? ?...Just SIMPLIFY the path name by making a new folder and only using the file names...There is no usable solution. The solutions you can find online answer the question of *copying* the file, but they leave out that doing so makes it very difficult to use the copied files. Once copied vias the various workarounds, the files longer than the maximum path length will be quite difficult to access, requiring rather involved workarounds each time. realistically, it just CUTS you off from those files that have longer paths.

The best alternative is to reduce the length of the names of DIRECTORIES to try to reduce the maximum length of the full file path of the most deeply nested files in that structure, as it seems the copy target location has a longer path than the source location which is enough of a difference to make the longer filenames/paths in the copied files be too long.

Hello everyone!

So I just tried updating my video card drivers and after that was done windows had to UPDATE as well. The next morning my pc would only show the “republic of gamers” boot screen, after which only a black screen. I can’t even press F2 or del to get into the BIOS.

When I tried unplugging the power supply for one hour, it did turn on NORMALLY the first TIME I started it up again, but the problem returned the next time I turned my pc off and on.

Would ANYONE know what I could do? Thank you very much for taking the time to help me!

I would disconnect everything from the computer except the screen and see if you can boot into windows. Make sure you disconnect all usb devices, you can plug a mouse in after windows is booted to shutdown.

Could we have the make and model of power supply as it is looking like a power supply problem.

I was on my PC and I noticed it was running a little slower from when I first purchased it, it was running 100% perfect except I thought I was noticing it to be a tiny bit slower so I thought it wouldn't hurt to do a system restore to bring it BACK to the POINT it was when I first bought the computer. During the process of restoring I received an error that says -- ( Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. )  StopCode 0xc000021a    -- this error has terminated my PC and I can't turn it on anymore. I have attempted to troubleshoot and when I click system restore there is no more saved restore points to select. I tried the other option of Resetting the PC to it's  first current state and that process has failed multiple times. I have tried two YouTube videos that GAVE me multiple commands to type in the command prompt and I tried them all and each time I restart my PC I get the same error and now the computer does not WORK anymore. ---- I need help to fix this problem, I regret attempting to restore the PC because it was working fine before I did anything.

As the title states. Got a Sandy Bridge i7 PC that seems to boot to a black screen after initial SETUP. Powering it down twice will get it to its setup. The system will run fine but then will freeze at times when SHUTTING it down, or restarting it.

Read online that this is a secure boot/fast boot issue. The bios has no such options to TURN off. Tested the hard drive and ram and they PASSED. Im out of ideas, besides still trying different ram and a different hard drive.

Thoughts? tried using both the very latest of windows 10, and tried 1809 build.

My main problem is that I have recently reinstalled windows 10, and it SEEMS that every time I move my touchpad while holding a key, my touchpad does not move for about a second. Dell didn't supply drivers for your Laptop RUNNING Windows 10 it used generic Windows support. The last version of Windows 10 which had support for the laptop was Build 1607. So to get everything working you would need to find a copy of Windows 10 1607 or earlier. When you install ANSWER no to updating the windows install.
Then if every works you can then install the later updates.

Your response will be appreciated. As your code works fine, small change is required that instead of saving the output to a file, it should send a mail notifiaction using BLAT with the error logs. I have Blat configuration ready only thing is I am confused where I can include in the above code to get the updates only when server is down and not available.

For the last few weeks my computer has starting doing this:


1. I have to press my keyboard buttons hard sometimes or it won't type. Example: Say I want to type the word 'Bugger'. If I just go about TYPING in a normal fashion it sometimes leaves of the 'g'.

2. My videos take a long time to load and play.

3. Sometimes I can't even see videos or images. All I see for some images is a little icon.

I have a strange issue. Example: I open VLC or any other folder, the FILE name that appears at bottom gets cut off. Not sure why this happens. When I depress the arrow KEY the WHOLE file name appears again. I've included a SCREEN shot. Is there anything in the registry that can fix the fix name FIELD?

Not sure if this is the right forum page for this, but I'm having an issue where various games will crash to the desktop after 15-20 minutes of play.  A friend suggested checking Event Viewer, and I see error events listed, but I don't know what they mean (though some of them are game/application related).  The most common one is titled Kernel-Event Tracing.  Any suggestions? 

By the way, the crashing issue ONLY happens with games, doesn't HAPPEN when running other programs.Can you post the event ID? And, the OS that you are running?
Maybe I will be able to help you in a better way if you post these details.
Thanks. I'm running Windows 10 Pro and the most common error is listed as 'Event ID 2 Kernel-Event-Tracing' Please define "crashing to the desktop". EXACTLY what happens? Also, did this just start or has it always been this way?What usually happens (and seems to only happen with two games, specifically 'Destiny 2' and 'Division 2') is I'll be in game and the screen will freeze, and then suddenly I'm back at the desktop (no blue screen).  It usually happens after about 20 minutes of play.  With Destiny there is no error message, it just drops me back on the desktop and the game closes.  With Division I will occasionally get an error that the game has crashed (but not always). 

It hasn't always happened, no.  I upgraded my GPU and PSU a few months back and it seems to have started after that.

A friend suggested completely removing all graphics drivers using DDU but that process sounded a little scary, to be QUITE honest, at least on one particular walk-through I read.Well, if this started right after you made hardware changes there's an obvious conclusion to be drawn. Also, in the future when you post a problem please provide all of these details in your first post.

My GUESS is that either you want to see if there is a more current driver for the display adapter (and if not, perhaps an older one might work) or try a different gpu. Just for the heck of it, you can run memtest - though I think ram is a longshot.I definitely have the most recent GPU driver.  Even if switching to my old GPU solves the problem, that's not really a solution, is it?  I mean I'd PREFER to use the newer, more powerful card. 

Are you familiar at all with DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) and/or do you think it might help in this case?I've used it in the past and it's fine. I just don't believe it will help in your situation. And yes, if your current card doesn't work properly for you then going back to the old one - or getting a different one - may very well be the solution.

But by all means, hang around and see if anyone has some other thoughts for you.

I keep getting No bootable device- insert boot disc after switching on. Exactly last week my laptop was booting into Windows Automatic Repair mode. I tried System Restore and the System/Boot Repair option in the blue troubleshooting menu but to no avail. Two days now, I turn it on it and I get the black & white screen with ''PXE-M0F : Exiting PXE ROM No bootable device-insert boot disc.'' I learnt about Hirens Boot CD and currently booted into it with my flash drive to seek help here. Would greatly appreciated assistance.Thank you

I found over the net that in Windows 7 was possible in command line to get active KEYBOARD layout.
By this Registry reading:

reg query "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Keyboard Layout\Preload"

It displays installed layouts (not languages) in system, active will contain number 1.
I used it and tried - no change of value. For to be sure I was searching for ID list - yes, found, but I have own layouts created with KbdEdit. These cannot to have any common ID, so I think I need only one simple thing - READ only active keyboard indication instead list with values without change - value I'll get I will take as important.

How to fix it? Or exist other way?

Hello. My grandfather gave me his old XP computer to get it repaired. The Windows XP is stuck in a bootloop so I decided I should try and install W10 on it. I plugged my USB made with Media Creation Tool and when I BOOT from it I get ”Invalid partition table”. After watching some tutorials I found that is something RELATED to the UEFI or Legacy settings, but it doesn't seem the BIOS has these kind of settings. What can I do?

Also, this computer has a CD-ROM drive, so I tried replacing it vith a DVD-RW to try and boot from a DVD, but the drive is not recognised in the BIOS.

Someone suggested to try and scan the HDD for problems, so I burned Hutil on a CD but I again get "Invalid partition table". \The HDD is an IDE Samsung.

Also if it wasn't booting windows XP all of a sudden, then it has a hardware problem which you need to diagnose first before loading windows 10.

So can I have the hardware details ether a link to the model or a list of specs. Some pictures of the inside as it could have faulty motherboard capacitors.

I recently tried the new Xbox insider version of Bedrock Minecraft and I wanted to revert back to the original game. To do this you have to uninstall the game and use the insider app to REMOVE the beta access.
I did this and tried reinstalling Minecraft, but now I get the error Code: 0xC0EA000A. It says downloading for a few seconds, then it says error and the download stops. I tried downloading other apps and they download and work perfectly.
I've been looking for solutions for hours and now I'm getting scared that there is something wrong with my PC. I've seen some PROBLEMS with the same error code INVOLVING windows activation KEYS as well as Microsoft store cache problems. I've already tried resetting the Microsoft store cache and obviously resetting my pc multiple times.
My COMPUTER is running Windows 10 Home edition activated by an organization activation service. I also use avast premium security with all the firewalls turned on (just in case that makes a difference).
I hope someone can help me find a solution, Thank You!What is an "organization activation service." exactly ? ?

My HDD has been corrupted and Win10 won't boot any more on C:
Fortunately, I made a recovery USB and can boot with that.
Disk Repair will not work for C:, but I did manage to copy all my important files to an external USB drive.
I bought a NEW HDD, which should arrive soon.

My question is:

Can I just make the NEW HDD my Win10 "system disk" and still use the OLD HDD for storage, at least for a while?
I have a lot of HISTORY on that disk (including programs) that I might want to reference or access  and don't want to wipe it clean if I don't have to.

I'm just looking for someone with experience to tell me if that is possible (to make my OLD system disk just a regular DATA disk without wiping it).

When the new drive arrives install it in place of your failing drive. Leave the failing drive disconnected and load windows install from the recovery pen drive onto your new drive. When windows is working correctly download a copy of HD sentinel trial   https://www.hdsentinel.com/download.php
Now you can cable in your failing drive. HD sentinel will give details of the condition of the hard drive from this you or we may be able to decide if it is ok to keep using it or to copy off the info asap.

As windows 10 has already been ACTIVATED on the computer it will re activate with a digital licence. 

On my w- 10 desktop I have a ear phone & microphone with 2 plugins.
Now I BOUGHT a set that only has 1 plugin. What do I need to make this set WORK. It says I don't have it pluged in. Would I need BLUETOOTH in my computer and how to tell if I do have it.Go to a store and look for microphone adapters.
The new microphone you have is for a smartphone that has just one place to plug in the mic. You Desktop PC and many laptops have two plugs.

•   I have a logitech C615 webcam. 

•   I have already downloaded the software/drivers for windows 20 for my webcam from here: https://support.logi.com/hc/en-us/articles/360024846573--Downloads-HD-Webcam-C615 and logitech's website says it's windows 10 compatible. My machine is running Windows 10 Version 1909 (OS Build 18363.753)

•   Device manager does have the drivers listed under the Image device section so that should be okay or so I think.

•   ISSUE: sometimes when I use my webcam, person on other side says they can see me and I can see what they see on my end as expected (I was on a video CHAT room website), but then after like 30sec to 1 min, the video DROPS (I can hear the disconnect then reconnect sound that windows makes when you unplug/replug usb cable and the other person says they can't see me and I can't see myself either)


•   Have WENT through Skype’s webcam/microphone test and Skype appears to tell me that webcam is working fine.


Any IDEAS of what to do to troubleshoot the issue? (Also I would think using an usb extension cable should not affect anything? And also only using USB 2.0 ports because USB 3.0 seems to be problematic as Logitech's website says)

I have an old Dell laptop that came with Windows 7 and was upgraded to Windows 10 during the free upgrade period. It was used often until about 3 years ago when it was put away. I'm using it right now to write this and it's functioning well, but it's having a problem with things like Windows Update and the Microsoft Store app. I had to manually download the most recent updates because it would not update on its own, it said it could not access the INTERNET even though it was connected to WiFi and I could use my browser. I tried to download Spotify through the Microsoft Store app and it wouldn't come up at all, it says "Page could not be loaded, try again later". One thing I found interesting is that after the free upgrade, Windows 10 never did activate properly and it was used for a couple of years like that. After manually installing updates and playing with some things today, I was able to get Windows 10 activated, although I'm not sure how I did it. This laptop is not GOING to be used much in the future, but it would be nice to get everything working properly. I will do a fresh install of Windows 10 if I have to, now that it's showing as activated. But before I do that, I was wondering if ANYONE here has any ideas on what I could do.A clean install is likely the best since it was sitting so long...

I have been using Dell Inspiron 5565 since 2018. I have a dual graphics card. One is AMD Radeon R7 Graphics of 512mb which is Primary/Integrated/Switchable graphics and another one is AMD Radeon R7 M440 Graphics of 4096mb which is Secondary/Discrete/Switchable graphics.
Whenever I play games and all it always take Primary graphics of 512mb and I can't SWITCH into 4096mb. I have tried out many methods but all went in vain. SO How can I do it? Try switching the slots they're in...Hi

Go into device manager and un install the DRIVERS for the 2 display adapters, delete driver files when asked. Restart the LAPTOP when it goes to install the drivers for the display adapters press cancel. You don't want the windows generic drivers to load. The icons will look large and the laptop screen may look out of focus this is normal. Then start Dell driver update from the windows menu this will update / install the drivers and software from Dell for your laptop. If you don't have this program in the Dell start menu group then it is likely the Windows you have is not the IMAGE from Dell which will be why the display adapters are not switching.

Before including Windows Defender anti-virus into Windows I was using other AV software which not all of tested in time supported SCAN from COMMAND line, even FREE alternatives never supported it.

Since is Windows has built-in Defender I want to ask if is it possible?

I'm modifying and backup settings of standard Win32 applications lot of time directly so, that I can use settings later or after reinstall.
Since came modern or Metro applications I NEVER found settings like Win32 applications which are stored normally in application directory or AppData or ProgramData folders or Windows registry.
I have no idea about format of them - Win32 applications have many times stored it in INI file.
So, where to find modern applications settings, their format and type of storage?

MiroMicrosoft introduced the Windows STORE apps called ‘Metro Apps’ with Windows 8. Microsoft later decided to call them ‘Modern Apps’. And as of today, in Windows 10, the store apps are simply called “Windows Apps”. Microsoft uses a hidden folder named WindowsApps to install these Metro/Modern apps. The folder is located within the Program Files folder in the system drive (C:\). Data for all of the Modern Apps are stored in the AppData folder under the user’s profile.
Installation folder – Apps are installed to the WindowsApps folder. You can find it at this location – C:\Program Files.
The temporary data folder (Isolated storage) – Modern apps save their data at the following location  – C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Packages.

Do note that both folders are hidden. They will not show under the list of folders unless you enable the display of hidden files in Windows 10. If you have enabled the hidden items, then the folders will appear in a lighter color, indicating that it is a hidden item.Thank you very much! Very much!

I have always hidden files set to show and I found locations.
WindowsApps needs only set permissions to view/modify. I did it and I'm thankful.

Now I can do all possible - only one thing is bit problem - folder names for applications, it needs to accustom only.

MiroHere are some suggestions that are rather broad and not specific. The specific recommendations get to be much too detailed and difficult to reproduce by others and I would surely make an error divide tried to tell you how to EDIT something directly in the registry.

Here are the general rules that I use for making changes to my systems. These are rather broad brute force methods that tend to be more reliable but appeared to be rather awkward and clumsy.

The first order is to make up frequent backups and checkpoints in the system. Just having the opportunity to go back a day can really make a big difference.

The second-order is to have more than one user account. There does not seem to be any penalty for having several user accounts on one installation of Windows. The user account seems to take up very little space on the hard drive. In most cases your application will put different settings into each user account as need be. So having several user accounts is one way to protect yourself while making experiments on application settings.

My third order of business is the use of additional partitions. This may seem to be an overkill, but it is often help me solve the problem. Windows will allow you to have installations of Windows 10 and Windows 7 and other combinations, even to installations of the same Windows 10 build. I have actually done that and it is one way to try out something different without destroying your main installation. So I have another installation of Windows 10 on the same hard drive and I can go there and try something out to see what it does.

Yes, those three ideas seem to be SEVERE overkill. Granted, it does seem to be that way. But from my own experience years ago I have found that backup and backup and alternative methodology can make a big difference in your success rate. Don't be afraid to make your computer work hard. Your computer is well-suited to doing hard work.

For a long time Windows 10 has never ever stolen my desktop. Now is has.
No longer can I hit the start button and see desktop icons, What I mean is the TRADITIONAL desktop that yuou WOULD have in Windows 7. I do no like the metro view. I want my own icons and I want the ones I want the way I want them.

Up  to now, I could flip back and forth from the desktop legacy to whatever they call the new thing. Do you KNOW what I mean? I can not make a screen shot because it is not there anymore.

The things I TRY do not work. I have  no options.

Hi!  Been a while since I had an issue I could not CURE, but this one is REALLY bugging me!

As brief as possible:- THREE laptops, all connected wireless, all same Router/ISP.

All looking VIA Firefox (or Chrome, etc, it makes no difference) to the www.hobbyking.com   website.

ALL will login as usual to my account and readily show my usual opening SCREEN, updating to latest info inc pictures of items and website headings.

ALL will go to my account info and I can select old orders and view them.

HOWEVER, when I select to look AROUND the website (and so search the site), ONLY the Linux (LITE) laptop works normally.  All the site on that is accessible and useable.

The two Windows 10 laptops immediately, as they should, go to the "searching" screen, which as usual is a near white faded out background of the site and a spinning orange "working" symbol.

Even if the site is busy the delay on this screen before finding the section/item is only a few seconds.

But that is where they stay, never actually getting to any screen.  The Laptops work normally on other things like other sites if windowed, there are no crashes, and site searching is normal elsewhere.

It only affects HobbyKing AFAICT, but they are unable to OFFER help currently.

Any ideas anybody please??

Hey, got a Win10 OS that is now stuck in a loop. It must have updated itself, but now it just fails to boot. I can GET to the boot menu but after a restart it goes back to a loop.

DISCLOSURE- Prior to this I had to hit 7 prior to boot to disable driver signatures due to bootlegged software.
