A FAMILY member has recently upgraded their 4 year old ASUS Laptop to windows 10 after bacoming completely frustrated and fed up with how 7 was working. All was fine for a few days but hten a couple of days ago ten stopped loading and the machine went into a 'BootLoop'. Wouldnt boot windows and kept going into recovery mode. When i started LOOKING into it and how to fix it i found NONE of the recovery options would work Startup repair, System restore, return to previous build all failed or COULDNT do anything. Even non file destructive system reset would not work. Only thing left was 'File Destructive' Reset ie clean reinstall of windows. had to try this to get the PC back working. This operation went to 66% and then failed. After which no operating system could be found! It appeared Reset had partialy worked - deleted or partialy deleted windows, corrupting it BEYOND recorery.

I then decided to ditch 10 and go back to 7 - i have boot/install media for it, but when i loaded the DVD with 7 on it and tried to install 7, it looked like 10 was still there. I even put in a LIve CD copy of a Linux OS to boot from and lookat the hard drive and it looks like 10 is still there.

I want to recover 10 if possible. I have tried downloading ISO files to my own (7 Desktop) machine  to put onto DVD, but so far not been sucessfull. Media Creation Tool version is too big and the Tech Bench download is too time consuming and complicated for me.

In the end i cant really decide wht route to take, back to 7 (clean install) and stay with it, Reinstall 7 and then upgrade to 10 or recover/reinstall 10 directly.

alexsunnyI would reinstall 10 directly. it has already had 10 loaded sot is fine to do a clean install. With all you have done so far it points to a hardware problem either a failing hard drive or bad memory. 
Most likely hard drive I would put an SSD drive in and then load Windows 10 .

I have been having trouble with my computer for a while. I am on an Alienware X51 R2 which I have recently migrated the OS onto an external SSD, and I am getting lots of errors occurring with Windows. I migrated to the SSD due to many bluescreens which pointed me to a degraded OS.
The most prominent error now is opening the start menu will instead cause a critical error and cause a permanent form to open with the only option to log out. LOGGING out does not fix the problem. I have done multiple things to try to REMEDY and diagnose the problem, like doing an ePSA from the BIOS and running DISM in command prompt. The DISM still has not caused any effect for the errors, and the ePSA had lots of errors come from memory (error code 2000-0122).
I have reset and REINSTALLED Windows 10 twice now with each having different errors come up. The first time I installed Windows worked perfectly fine until it abruptly stopped. Whenever I would power on the PC, the BIOS would LOAD twice (once for the external SSD, and the other for the original OS), and would be stuck after it was finished loading.
I reset the OS again and now I am able to run it again, but there are many more errors than before.

Any assistance at all would be great!
Thank you.I would check to see if your RAM is on the MBoard QVL list...If the pre-boot system assessment (EPSA) is saying there is memory errors then the memory has failed or needs to be reseated. Reseating means with all power disconnected and drained from the computer you remove and re insert the memory a few times this can clean the contacts. Use the EPSA to re test the memory after doing this if you still can't GET a pass without errors you will need new memory.

Hi- I'm sort of your standard internet user, so I'm not super tech savvy but I'm familiar with blocking websites using the hosts file and have done so MANY times without difficulty. I'd expect a "127.0.0.1 www.facebook.com" line would probably get you most of the WAY to blocking facebook.

Remember you need to reboot for the HOSTS file CHANGES to take effect.

Updated WIN 10 to version 2004 and it crashed my system last night. Every time I rebooted, I GOT the famous BSOD. Mind you, I haven't had a BSOD crash in over 15 YRS. So I decided to revert back to the 1909 version of Win 10. Does anyone know of a safe way to update Win 10 that will save my original settings or just a SAFER way to update it? THANK in advance.

I've been having this issue with my pc for months on end, and I've tried everything from deleting Oculus (assumed issue), to going back a few graphics card updates, to virus scans; nothing's worked.

At any POINT in time during a game; my screen will freeze, go entirely black (screen is still on, just black), then the game crashes.

I have a couple of old MS DOS programs I still have to run, and thanks to the program called Rufus I was able to make a bootable Flash Drive with a DOS system added. I can boot up and run a DOS system on any computer that uses the XP, Vista or Windows 7 operating systems. This way the DOS program is running in full screen and true (not quasi) DOS.

Such operating systems mentioned above use the MBR boot system however modern computers today with Windows 10 installed use the UEFI boot system I'm told. With that system, a flash drive made up using Rufus for DOS operation will not boot up that type of computer.

So, can anybody PLEASE tell me if there is any program or way to overcome this PROBLEM? My older computer with the Windows 7 operating system is not going to last forever so I need to get this true DOS going on a modern laptop if it's possible.Turn off UEFIThanks for a reply patio.  You suggested I turn off the UEFI boot system.  I gather that is done by going into the BIOS to achieve that.  If you could provide some instructions on how to go about it that would be appreciated. Now if the UEFI boot system is turned off, how does Windows 10 still manage to boot up?

Yes if you turn off UEFI then Windows 10 may not boot. Most bios get round this by having an option to use both legacy/uefi. There is other setting LIKE csm which need to be SET. and turn off secure boot.

I do have some good instructions on how to turn off the secure boot on Windows ten.

Now patio.  The first time I created a bootable flash drive with a DOS operating system on it I used a program called "HP USB Disk" but it doesn't provide the MS DOS files required. The user has to dig up those from somewhere.  Later I found out about Rufus which does supply the files. I see the latest version is 3.7, but even it doesn't provide a UEFI boot system to work in conjunction with a DOS system on the flash drive.  Perhaps that is impossible to achieve.

Hello, I bought a EVGA Nu Audio sound card a few months ago (it's out of return warranty, but still under MANUFACTURERS warranty) and I've yet to find out if it even works. So today, other than my CASE fan fiasco, I struggled with this issue. I have Windows 10 installed and to install this fan, you're supposed to download drivers, etc, directly from EVGA website, but each time I do it, it comes back with vcruntime140.dll missing error. So I followed some ONLINE instructions I found and did that. My computer even indicates or rather did (before I removed it) that it indeed was now present. Yet, EVERY time I'd go back and try and reinstall the software/drivers I'd get that same error message. Anyone dealt with this and resolved it successfully? Perhaps INSTALLING something else that gave you the same error messages.?
Did you install the C++ 2015 redistributable package - or - did you just drop the vcruntime140.dll file into the location of the dependency?

Dell Alienware Gaming Laptop Area 51

I keep getting erratic keyboard operation on screen, especially noticable in MS Email, but all over, Word, PPoint, etc, where I get pauses, parts of just typed lines GOING missing onscreen, only to reappear SEVERAL seconds later. Lines appearing out of sync, to then after a delay self correct, or only correct when I press enter, etc.

Investigating, I found I had two HID Keybaord devices registered in Device Manager.

Boths appear identical, both dated 21/6/2006 and 10.0.18362.1. Can't see any way to see which one is doing what, except on one the events log is completely blank.

Why two? Would the US and UK options have the exact same but duplicated drivers???

I deleted one and it instantly CORRECTED the above issues, and all was well for over a week. Now (suspiciously after a Windows Update) I'm back with the issues and having looked find I have two drivers back.

I only want the UK keyboard and I want this issue to be fixed!  How PLEASE?I have deleted both drivers and rebooted.

Two come back.

One is listed as "USB Input Device"
The other "Intel(R) HID Event Filter"

Both now have info in their events logs of the uninstall and reload.

1. Did a scannow of Windows (as an admin) and it stopped at 53 percent of the verification phase and said "Windows Resource Protection COULD not perform the requested operation."
 
2. In cmd (Run as administrator) did a DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

3. sfc /scannow
 
Results for For #2:

"The WD driver encountered a corruption in the new compressed file's Resource Table.

The DISM log file can be FOUND at C:\WINDOWS\Logs\DISM\dism.log"

Results for #3:

4. Ran CHKDSK (Check Disk) as administrator. Computer needed to reboot to do it.

Then, ran the FOLLOWING one at a time in Command Prompt as Administrator

The ran 'RestoreHealth' again
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth


RESULTS: Chkdsk did complete running successfully. I tried running DISM after that. Here is the error message I received:

I got my Windows "upgrade" yesterday. Other than blowing out a lot of preferences and destroying my battery, I don't see what the benefit is.

BUT that's not my question....

I used to be able to single-click on a media file (or a collection of similar files) in Explorer, and it WOULD display media information in the BAR across the bottom of the Window (size, TIME, TAGS, ETC.). Now it doesn't do that anymore.

Is that a Windows setting? Or did I sneak in a utility somewhere along the way, and now I don't remember what it's called or how to Google it?

Hi everyone!  Windows updated my COMPUTER today and when it was finished, all my colors for taskbar, start menus, etc., are all white. I know this is trivial, but when you GET used to something you like, you don't want to change it.  So I WENT to my colors, changed that, didn't work.  So I went to Start, Settings, Personalization and this time it worked in changing some color. So it says if you want your taskbar in a color, go to start, taskbar, and action center.  That didn't work, however, it was on the Personalization page. I went to the Taskbar after reading how to change the colors on whatever surfaces I want it on. The Taskbar thing won't let me do anything. It's there, but it's muted and another box is there that says, Title Bars and Window Surfaces. That has a check beside it and I can't change it.  Do you know what I do to fix this?  I hate when they update, it always messes with something.  Thanks in advance!

I restored my computer to two days before the update.  Unfortunately, it didn't change a thing, or at least anything I can see.  I never have had that happen.  So I guess I'm stuck with this new update.
Have you checked the screen is not in High Contrast mode.

The same thing happened to my computer after what I assume was the same update. All I had to do was go to Settings-Personalization-Colours and change “Choose your default Windows mode” from Light to Dark. This changed my taskbar and start menu background colour from white to black. My other settings on this page are as follows:
Choose your colour = Custom
Choose your default app mode = Light
Transparency EFFECTS = On
Automatically PICK an accent colour from my background = Unchecked
Start, taskbar and action centre = Unchecked
Title bars and window borders = Unchecked
I hope this helps you to get your settings back to where you want them.

My laptop come with a BIG 905GB C drive and a 24.9GB backup D drive.

I TRY to split the C drive to 2 partition, but can only shrink the C to 449554MB and not smaller than that. I prefer 200 GB or 300 GB.

I try to defrag the C drive but it's shown 0% fragmented.

Any SOLUTION? Thanks.

Shortcut that used to be used for every command
Be it
Copy command by PRESSING Ctrl + C
Paste command by pressing Ctrl + V.
Cut command by pressing Ctrl + C
Shortcut command, bold, some italic, can't press at all.
Etc.

Suddenly it was like it couldn't press Shortcut at all. Must use the MOUSE to select the command Which is QUITE a waste of time working
Is there a way to fix it?

I converted my WINDOWS 7 PC to Windows 10 in 2020, when Microsoft was offering the upgrade for free. But I didn’t like Windows 10, so I chose to undo the upgrade. Now that Windows 7 no longer gets security updates, I want to install Windows 10 again. An IT guy told me I might still be able to get it for free, even though the free upgrade offer has expired. Can I?Yes you can. Once a computer has had a DIGITAL LICENCE for Windows 10 you can keep RELOADING to the same hardware as many times as you like.
 Regardless of whether a computer has previously had Win 10 installed on it or not, a Win 7 or Win 8.x machine can still be upgraded to Win 10 for free using the Windows Media Creation Tool that can be downloaded here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10%20.  It's also possible to do a clean install of Windows 10 as long as you have a valid Win 7 or Win 8.x license key to enter when the installer asks for a license key.

A couple of WEEKS ago my EDGE BROWSER in Win 10 was updated.  Now I cannot play DVD'S OR CD'S.  In the control PANEL I searched and it said E drive migrated on the same day as the update.  How do I get it back?   Any help APPRECIATED.

Hello everyone i am posting because I'm desperate and i feel I've tried everything. I built my new computer specs are below

MOBO: MSI MAG b550 Tomahawk
CPU: ryzen 5 3600
RAM: Corsair vengeance 2×8gb
GPU: MSI RTX 2070 SUPER
HDD: 1tb seagate barracuda
CPU Cooler: ID cooling auraflow 240

My issue is with my windows 10 INSTALL. Everything boots up fine fans work and everything and I'm able to get to my bios. I created a windows 10 install on usb and begin my install to my 1tb hdd. I set my boot options to the usb first then the hdd second. Begin windows custom install, delete partitions on hdd for fresh install, click next not new, install begins and gets devices ready and computer restarts, after reboot the motherboard screen appears and windows circles at bottom of screen begin spinning for a bit then just STOP. I am able to see mouse on screen when i MOVE it but it stays frozen.
I have tried everything it seems to try and fix this. I've tried booting up with 1 ram stick, I've rest CMOS, updated bios, tried a DIFFERENT usb and a different harddrive for the installs, tried TURNING off system before it restarts, different sata and usb ports, unplugged all peripherals and internet. I have not tried taking everything a part but I've had this issue before and was able to fix but i cant remember how so i dont think taking everything apart will fix it. Please someone help!How did you build this "custom Install" ? ?Fixed it thank you. It was my RAM bought some new ones and the install finished.

I've noticed within task MANAGER under details you are able to RIGHT click a process/running PROGRAM and change it's priority. I use a program called Video Enhancer AI which enlarges/upscales videos and sometimes depending on the video file can take up to 4 hours or more to process a video and this is with a R5 3600 at 4.2ghz and a RTX 2070 Super Overclocked. I figured if I set the programs priority to high from its previous setting of normal then perhaps it WOULD utilized more system resources and get the job done faster. Well I was wrong, changing it made absolutely no difference. So what is the point of this option if it doesn't actually do anything? I've tried it on other programs as well and saw absolutely no difference.Process Priority gives scheduling priority to certain processes.

it is only effective at increasing performance when a process is being starved of some CPU TIME due to other processes being scheduled to available cores in it's stead. If that isn't happening then it won't have much effect, and With Multi-core CPUs it often becomes less and less effective because processes will typically be free to use entire cores/threads as needed.

"Video Enhancer AI" in particular uses the GPU so CPU Priority scheduling has no effect on that.

And sometimes goes into a sleep restart mode. I did a lot of steps like setting the sleep to NEVER and even got so fed up that I reset the computer and reloaded certain programs that are considered safe. It behaved for a while and is now back. I did an antivirus check ans a malwares scan and found nothing. I forgot to add that sometimes it does this while booting up, it's so weird.
I've had where like Toshiba and a few other computers have their own power management software that ignores whatever you have Windows Power Management set to for sleep mode etc. Does your computer have a bundled power management utility that is ignoring Windows power management?Hi

Thank you for the speccy report. The only thing which looks ODD is the 8 gb and 4 GB memory modules being different MAKES and models. I suspect the 8 GB has been added. This wouldn't normally be a problem.

What happens if you run the computer with only the 4 GB memory  installed?

I can't read from the Speccy report if all the drivers are loaded. If you supply the model of HP computer I can check for Windows 10 drivers and provide a link.

I downloaded all of the latest drivers to no avail. FINGERS crossed, I dug through all my old computer parts and found a matching VGA cord. So far everything is working fine.No luck, it lasted  600   sec

Hi. The problem is that when I'm trying to do a straight line from left to right with my mouse my cursor starts to moving right + up or left + down if I do it from right to left. That's happens in any games like cs:go or overwatch etc. Windows acceleration off, in-game acceleration is also off. USED MarkC_Windows_10+8.x+7_MouseFix before that for turning accel off completely. Maybe I've messed up? Tried 3 different mouses, 3 different surfaces like table itself and 2 mousepads. Can you help me?

What part could cause that kind of issue? Motherboard? Or maybe something ELSE?

I'm TRYING to install Windows 10 onto a 4TB harddrive by plugging it into my computer, moving the Win10 ISO files onto the drive, then activating it in DiskPart. However, I am unable to activate the partition unless the drive is in MBR format, but if I do that, 2TB of the HDD becomes unusable when you get Windows working on it.

Is there a way to install Win10 on a 4TB HDD, WITHOUT converting to MBR and losing 2 TB of storage?You could partition the drive...or See Here..l.

Note : There is ALWAYS a risk of data loss...To install Windows onto a drive of larger than 2TB the drive needs to be partitioned as GPT first then have the partition made as NTFS 4 TB.

Begs the question why you are installing from the drive you are using for windows. The NORMAL way is EITHER from DVD or a pendrive. The reason to use this method is Windows 10 needs more than 1 partition to boot and the install knows how to partition your 4TB as GPT.

I'm new to your forum.  For a few months now, I've been noticing that there are problems that have been creeping up about every couple of months.  Around January the sound system cuts in and out.  Sometimes there is sound, sometimes a little, sometimes nothing!  I tried the troubleshooter & it could not detect any problem.  These SPEAKERS are basically new.  They came with my last PC, never used them, & now they are being used for the first time.   Another issue is the Favorites!  Just within the past week, I've noticed that some of my Favorites have disappeared!  In a few cases, some of the folders got transferred to another folder!  I can't save some sites to Favorites any more.  Sometimes I need to save something to Favorites & it won't get saved at all!  I tried to "sort them alphabetically", but the option doesn't show up anymore.  I like to keep them in order; however, the option doesn't allow this any longer. I don't know what I can do to get things back to normal.  Boot up problems have occurred a few times, too!  I go to boot up, go to another room, return in 5 or 10 minutes later, & the Dell screen hasn't even come up, yet!  My computer is only 2 years old, usually, I have had no problems until I started noticing that it seems to happen about the time updates occur.  I really wish that I could prevent updates from being downloaded, but it looks like this can't happen.  Naturally, this is a "money thing" for Microsoft, so I'm STUCK having to go along with this like the rest of you.  The computer repair people will probably make some extra pocket money due to these problems, I'm sure!  Before I take this PC in, I'd like to SEEK out any help I can get to see if I can get these taken care of myself.  If anyone has had similar problems & maybe can share them, I'd be interested in hearing from you.  If there are any WEBSITES out there that would be helpful, please send them my way.  I came to this Microsoft site in hopes that maybe they can direct me in the direction I need to go to get help since they are the ones who CREATED Win 10 in the first place!  Thanks in advance for any help you send me.

I have a white window with scroll bars (which operate) appearing partially extreme bottom right on my desktop randomly (or at a time I have not been able to link to ANYTHING).

I bought about 20 new 702 MB CDs and they have ruined 4 of them for SAVING or writing anything on them. They always eject the CD from the drive when formatting them, saying Windows was unable to complete the format. Now my Win7 reformatted an OLD CD that I managed to copy 4 files to, leaving only the old original FILE on it. I SUSPECT that it has made that CD and my 4 new CDs into write protected. I hate Win 7, it does what it wants. Anyone know how to make them writeable again let please let me know, I'm supposed to be retired but I've spent 2 full days trying to resolve this problem. Why not instead of USING the Win 7 option of formatting the disks as large floppies use something like imgburn    https://www.imgburn.com/

It will make cd's as well as has a discovery option which will give you information about what WENT wrong with the 4 cd's you have already written.

Hi everyone. I'm trying to repair a friend's HP computer and I'm running out of solutions. I'm hoping someone here can give some SUGGESTIONS. I'm getting BSOD's and ran BSOD screenview which indicates ntoskrnl as the problem. Since this computer was upgraded to Win 10 from 7 I can't FIND updated drivers on the HP site. I tired a Clean start but it still crashes. It works ok in Safe mode with Networking but I can't get any updates. I'm open to any and all suggestions.What about making up a Windows 7 drive  load the drivers and test. If it works ok then do the upgrade to Windows 10.
As there is no drivers after Windows 8 it maybe better to find another computer which supports Windows 10.  Like A Prodesk 600.

I remove one of the 4gb Ram CHIPS and it's been running all evening. I was able to do the Windows updates. I will try switching Ram sticks TOMORROW to see if that actually the problem.

When I've finished a session on the computer I click START then I go to power click on it , when the three options pop-up I click on Shut Down. A few seconds later the computer shuts down. Then a couple of seconds later the computer starts up and then I have to repeat the shut down process. This goes on until the computer shuts down completely.

Any ideas.   Is it possible that there pending updates that are being INSTALLED?THANKS for the response Strollin.

I feel it's not a case of pending downloads being installed otherwise I would have had a blue screen with a message saying updating your computer.  Then when the computer restarts I don't see a  message saying configuring your computer - do not turn off.Hi

Firefox Bookmarks has an 'Open all in tabs' option that OPENS multiple URLs with one mouse click. How can the same effect be ACHIEVED in Opera ?  Go to your bookmarks toolbar if you have one, RIGHT click on a folder say video to open the drop down menu, click on the top option Open all. Thank you - that was helpful. Luckily I was able to deduce for myself [and then DO it] that the URLs I want simultaneously OPENED, have to be  put into a folder first (like the example you gave of 'video'). It does not WORK for just the boomarks bar.

Does Windows 10 show a DIALOGUE if it casts to a device? It gives me the option of casting to devices I don't own (must belong to my neighbors) and I just don't WANT to inadvertently cast my material/media to their devices.  I have ATTEMPTED to cast to a known device and it shows a banner at the top of my laptop screen.  Any help/info WOULD be appreciated.

I'm not really into upgrading and building computers, but I decided to upgrade my PC Ram from 4GB to 8/12GB. I accidentally broke a sticker off my ram before and now can't see the information, I heard that there's DDR4 and DDR3 ram and that but I have no idea what I should choose and if it's going to be compatible with the one ram stick already installed in. I tried looking through the "Device Manager" but I cant find it. I need help.

My SUGGESTION would be to go to Code: [Select]https://www.ccleaner.com/speccy/ download, install and run it and on the summary page highlight from the bottom right to the top and copy all the info and post it back here. From there we can see your exact hardware and be better able to advise what ram your motherboard supports and exactly how much.

Occasionally my keyboard will suddenly mess up and all the keys make so sense to what they should do. For example when i hit the esc key its like i'm hitting the windows key. When i hit the windows key it pulls up my discord to the same GROUP every time and wont let me even change what group i look at. All the while seemingly none of the other keys do what they should EITHER.
I know its not the keyboard as other keyboards have the same issue, and i also don't think its a language setting or anything like that either, (i checked and am on standard english).
I've also gone to device manager and uninstalled all the keyboard drivers and reset my computer. This has only been a TEMPORARY solution and the problems EVENTUALLY come back.
Any HELP with this would be appreciated.

I have an expensive Bose Headphones that I have been using on my notebook COMPUTER for many years.
Just recently it stopped working correctly.  I only get a MUFFLED sound.
I have two other computers (All Windows 10) that I tried it on and it only produced a muffled sound.
I reasoned that it stopped working so I bought a new expensive Bose Headphone.
I couldn't get this one to work on all 3 of my computers.
On my notebook PC, I reset it to factory condition and it still won't work.
So I returned the Bose Headphones and I bought a cheap set of Headphones.
It will work on none of my computers!

I'm not interested in connecting in Bluetooth so I turn it off and connect via headphone jack port.  However, I just get a muffled sound. 
When I bought the $49 JVC headset I turn off Bluetooth and connect via headphone jack port but just get muffled sound on all three computers.
However, when I connect the 3 computers to my Bose - Companion 20 Multimedia Speaker System (2-Piece) they all work fine.Hi david. I just found it odd that all 3 computers seem to share to EXACT issue. Makes me think either all 3 pcs are identical makes and models, or all 3 have the same onboard sound modules or sound cards, or the exact same operating system, im just trying to work out if all 3 systems share an exact similarity when it comes to sound output otherwise i come to the CONCLUSION the the new headphones are defective. Have these headphones been tested in anything other than your 3 pcs and found to be in good working order, and can you confirm that not all 3 pcs share the same operating system or make/model?AndyFergo

I have 4 attachments to show what I'm currently using.
My 3 computers and my Bose companion speakers.

I'm not allowed to have any more attachments, but I have a picture of the Bose headphones that I returned and the current JVC headphones that I'm going to return tomorrow.

These headphones have not been tested in anything else but my 3 computers.  I have nothing else to use them in.

I just don't understand that just a few days ago my old Bose headphone stopped working.  I assumed it just went bad.  But then the new one wouldn't work either.
BestBuy Geek desk isn't OPEN due to the store only offering Curbside Pickup.  So I'm unable to bring in my notebook PC, which is still under warranty, and the new Bose headphones and say, "fix it."Hi david. Would it be possible for you to test both headphones in a tv for example? Almost all tvs have a 2.5mm headphone jack. Let me know if both or even the new ones sound muffled as they did on all 3 systems. If you have no access to a tv just let me know and i can suggest other options.I don't have a TV set.
The JVC headphone cord has a small USB on one end and a regular USB on the other end.
My cell phone doesn't have a regular USB on it.  Only the circular option.
I suppose I could purchase a cord on BestBuy that has a cord with a small USB on one end and a post/stickjack (I don't know what to call it.) on the other end.
But this is too much work for a cheap headphone!I have sent you a private message david.

I want to keep my old wallpapers that windows 10 has stored somewhere, but I'd like to add a few more wallpapers to the folder.
The folder is not on my Computer though, so where does windows store the user wallpapers folder?

I use this computer 99% of the time so I want it to show my login FIRST.  Right now it shows my dad's login first which is kind of annoying.  How can I make myself the default user so it shows my login first?  I have already made myself the administrator instead of him.  I SEARCHED for the answer in google and got this:   

1.  Press windows + x.
2.  Select control panel.
3.  Select user account.
4.  Select Manage user account.
5.  Choose the local account you want it to be default.
6.  Login with local account and restart.

First of all, when I press windows + x it does not show the control panel on the start menu that POPS up.  But if I search for the control panel and move on with the instructions I then get stuck on step 4 because my computer does not show that option either.  Why is my Windows 10 DIFFERENT?  How do I make myself the default user so it show my login first?The Control Panel option was included with earlier versions of Windows 10. For a while now I have had to use the reset button on the computer CASE to get Widows 10 to load up. I start by pushing the power button. The load up screen appears, with the Windows EMBLEM showing and it just sits there. I have to push the reset button and then it will finish loading. The only time I don't have to use the reset button is after an update, it will load all the way. I was wondering why this happens. When I upgraded to Windows 10 when it first came out I didn't have to do this. But I have BOUGHT NEW hard drives since then and it always happens.

I've been looking around the internet for information on this issue. I found sites like this, https://windowsreport.com/windows-10-build-freezes-login /, and have been going through the list. I installed some driver update software which really helped, sped up my computer, but didn't solve the PROBLEM.

Just now I tried "Disable Fast Startup" and it seems to have done the trick.Good news , now fixed!!

Does anyone know if it is possible to revert back to windows 10 S mode. I have a LAPTOP that came with windows 10 s mode. After it crashed I had to re-install windows 10. But would like it to have windows 10 in S mode. Can this be done?I renamed your topic to SOMETHING representative of your question and moved it to the appropriate sub-forum.A computer installed with Windows S mode can be switched out of S mode but cannot be switched back so I think that means that S mode must be set during installation.

Or maybe I'm missing something? However I have come to the same conclusion that I don't seem to be able to install windows 10 in s-mode. The link above seems to be an evaluation VERSION for schools to test? I would have thought the license on the laptop which is built into the bios would understand that the machine came with windows 10S. Why do they make it so difficult to reinstall.

I get this error error when starting ALMOST all programs installed on my computer. Adobe reader for example (although after clicking OK the pdf opens normally) but for others i am unable to start the programs . I only started getting this recently, even on programs that used to work previously. I also used to get another .dll error whenever i start my pc but i stoped getting it (I didn't change anything BTW). This is an HP computer if that matters   Hi
