According to Microsoft, we won't see a Windows 10.1 or even Windows 11 for that MATTER. This doesn't mean the Redmond based company won't update its operating system, just that the update won't be named as it was previously, in the transition from Windows 8.0 to Windows 8.1.

This news was declared by Jerry Nixon, a Microsoft employee and developer evangelist, at the company's ongoing IGNITE conference in Chicago. Nixon explained that the company will be PUSHING updates to the Windows 10 platform regularly. He stated, "Right now we're releasing Windows 10, and because Windows 10 is the last version of Windows, we're all still WORKING on Windows 10," which clearly means that future updates will also be BRANDED as Windows 10.

The users will get an option to choose between fast updates or bundled updates; under the fast update option users will get the update as soon as it is complete, whereas the bundled one will be slower and will occur in longer cycles. The apps will be developed in such a way that they can accommodate quick or monthly updates.

The Windows 10 update for PCs is scheduled to release in the third quarter of this year whereas the update for phones will be released later. Interested people can download the technical build through the Windows insider program. Yer Late...

I have Asus G551JK and after the W10 update my HEADSET mic won't work or any other microphone connencted won't work. I tried updating the drivers and almost everything google had to offer but still nothing. My headset is ASUS CERBERUS. Please, somebody know what to do?So your Headset works for Audio, but Mic doesnt work.

When you go into audio properties is the mic there or does it show its missing or greyed out?

I looked at asus website and didnt see any drivers for it, but if your headset came with a CD DRIVER for it, you can try pushing that driver to the system and use Windows 7,8, or 8.1 driver on 10.

I had a similar problem years ago when going from XP to 7. Lost my mic jack on my motherboard. Tried drivers for realtek and it would install and say all is well, but no mic. The mic only worked under XP yet audio out worked fine. I got frustrated and just bought a USB 5.1 Audio adapter and used that, however your headset I believe is just a USB plug and not audio and mic independent phono jacks.My pc only shows the built-in mic and some Stereo Mix thing(SHOWING disabled and disconnected).

This is about ease of use in Windows 8.

The analogy is this. Windows XP is now a ghost town on the Internet. One can not keep using a dead OS unless one wants to waste his time.

That is the XP desktop that I am used to. I need a Windows 8 desktop that is close to that. I have to be able to PLACE icons all over with no visual interference.

I have a disability. I have very low-VISION. The magnifier and high contrast do not solve the problem. I need to see thugs I am used to. At big part of this kind of vision problem relates to the ability to recognize familiar objects and to isolate the background trash.

It should be possible to do this without the need to do a re-work on the registry.

But I am wiling to here any ideas.

You can increase the DPI setting of the system and even make the font size for Icons (or other elements) larger or smaller with the personalization control panel. Here's an example I slapped together by fiddling with one of my Windows 8.1 VMs:



I don't know about changing the actual font in use for the desktop. I don't think the advanced display properties dialog is available in Windows 8 and later anymore.That looks like the 'System' font, which is a bitmap font. I'm not sure if you can use that, but truetype fonts scale better when you change the DPI.

Yes, I did use system font. But Thoma Bold is also works.
One of the things found was in the performance settings. You can turn off the puff clod font style and have just a plain font. I thinks it is called visual stye and drop shadow. These effects make the font hard to read.
I set my Font to about a size 12. And yes, the low resolution helps. But when I watch a network movie, I have to adjust the browser so the image fits the screen.

I want to do this in Windows 8 or 10 so I can get used to using a supported OS.
Perhaps less than 2 per cent of Windows users are like me. But I would help a lot of MS would make the options available for t hose that need them.
In the screenshot I increased the Display DPI to 200%, increased the font size of Icon labels to 12, and made them bold. The background is also a solid colour. Using a larger DPI is considered better than using a lower resolution, particularly if using an LCD monitor, but realistically they have a similar effect for those that require it to see much.

I also tried what you mention regarding drop shadows by disabling "use drop-shadows for icon labels on the desktop" in the "Performance Options" dialog, but it doesn't seem to ACTUALLY do anything.

I didn't use any registry thingies. I just fiddled with the available display options.Thanks. That is better. I still need to get the icons to have black letters on light background. What about a screen reader? Windows has one built-in but there are also 3rd party options.

I have used some devices, but the magnifier is hard to use unless you have two monitors. I may have to go back to using dual monitors.
It would help a lot ifds the Windows API would favor more variation in font size, Icon size and background colors.
The High-Contrast t optimums are a disaster. Some websites deliberately select colors that are hard to read. Somehow they think that draws more interest. It makes things tough for people with low-vision.
I did use a reader at one time. That is good for a large document that has to be carefully read. But it sucks for scanning a page of keywords.

I do appreciate some web sires that stick with black on white and use of HTML in a way that allows viewing a page with auto-word wrap.

With Windows 8 and 10, the big problem is tiny titles and the special effects.

I did not UNDERSTAND Lo-vision until it happened to me. Presently I have to use reading glades that are rated 4X. But I use them at a distance of about 8 inche3s for a20 inch monitor.
I am thankful l for any ideas.

The site uses the same format MS uses on all their stuff. One can not adjust the text to fill the screen and word-wrap. Plain old HTNL with a single colummn works fine, but MS just can not get it. Lo-vision people need a universal format that can easily be read. It is called HTNL.

Explanation. A simple web site with HTML and nothing+ else will adjust the test to fit the users monitor or zoom level.

BTW: That site makes a point. It takes little effort to have a web site that adapts to the needs of the user. In fact, that is already being done for mobile devices with responsive templates.

For the amount of work you are doing to fix this, you really need to get some help from others. Once a problem PC or laptop is over two years old, there is not much reasonable hope it will ever be 'good as new'. It may have a bad defect due to manufacturing.

What kind of PC do you really need? Something portable? something you can leave on a desktop?

Tablet devices now a re perhaps the best low-cost way of going mobile. The Amazon fire has what most people need in a portable device. At $99 there is nothing like it. It works. It has clued storage. You can link it to a Bluetooth keyboard.

Or get a used Apple iPad.

Otherwise, you can get a good used desktop for under $99 with a fair warranty.

Don't give up, just dump the lemon.
And I know what you mean. I have had it happen to me. Okay, if the system works in safe mode it is probably a PROCESS (app, driver, service) loading with Windows. This is a lengthy process, but it will help identify the problem:

Open msconfig and on the GENERAL tab choose "selective startup" (uncheck all three items) and reboot. Does the problem still occur? If not, start adding items back to msconfig one or two at a time, rebooting after each change, until the problem reappears and you'll have identified the offending process. Again, this is clearly a time consuming procedure, but it is the best way to determine if some process loading with the system is the cause of your problem.

After you've ISOLATED the cause, do not use msconfig to permanently disable the process. Instead, if it is a service go to START - RUN and type: services.msc (then press enter) and disable the service OR, if it a PROGRAM, you can download & run a dedicated app such as Autoruns (https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx) to enable, disable, or otherwise manage startup programs.

Have searched but can not find a clear answer. Will Cortana open websites? From what I read, it will providing the website is bookmarked and pinned. Is this correct?

If the website requires login, eg eBay, will Cortana do the login for you? Since Edge will be able to SAVE usernames and passwords, it seems possible. Eg, can I say "Hey Cortana, open eBay" and the eBay login page opens. Then can I say, "Hey Cortana, login to eBay" or will I have to click the login button?

Earlier this year I built my own desktop and this is the first issue I have had with it. Just the other day I was in a game and the monitors (two Asus 27in) just randomly lost signal and my SPEAKERS started making a really weird constant buzzing sound. I tried RESTARTING my computer multiple times and the monitors would never obtain a signal. Eventually a screen would pop up telling me that windows had not restarted properly and after I restarted my computer from there it would begin working fine again. The issue happened again today and I tried to reconnect to my game and the same thing happened. I checked the bios and there was a bar showing the voltage that was in the red. I don't see why it would be in the red because nothing was running in the background. Let me know if you guys NEED SPECS or anything like that. After a few tries of restarting the computer everything is running fine

I get the following ERROR - it flashes on my screen every 10 mins - GREG error - This OPERATING system is not supported by this application- after installing Windows 10.

There is nothing in my Control Panel | Programs uninstall of the name GREG there.

How can I remove it, please?

As I say, there is nothing about GREG in my Control Panel, but I removed the Packard Bell Registration entry there, and I haven't seen the GREG pop-up since.

On that basis, I have burned the x64 Build 10162 ISO to a disk and installed it to my Dell D830 laptop, previously running XP, Core 2 Duo 2.2 GHz, 2GB RAM, (it was my Torrent box) and do you know what? It works just fine. I have got it to wake-on-lan and I can RDP into it, it runs Tor Browser and Vuze, and boots in 1 minute 5 seconds to a useable desktop. I have added Classic Shell for the Start Menu.

I have 10240 running on a laptop; I am liking it more and more. I like the file copy/move progress UI. Is it the same as Windows 8?

Ive got a laptop with the Win7OS and ive got the Win icon with the option Get Win 10 and ive reserverved it for installing July 29th.
Ive also got a desktop running Win 8.1 but ive not got the icon notification to get Win 10 the windows icon 's not in the SYSTEM tray.
Both these OS are original copies does any one know the reason for this .

I think it's a "Modern" app, on my 32 bit Windows 10, build 10240, which I believe is the RTM, the command line (and the target of a shortcut) would be

I have tried it by creating a DESKTOP "New Shortcut" and pasting the above line in "Type the location of the item", and it works.

You can search for, and find, a "MicrosoftEdge.exe" in C:\Windows\SystemApps\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe but double clicking doesn't seem to do anything.


Is there still a Quick Launch in Windows 10? You can right click the Start menu Edge item and choose "Pin to taskbar".

I don't get it why edge behaves like that Any window will open in the same position it is when you close it...I THOUGHT so too... but thats not the case with edge. BELIEVE me... I've had Win 10 since last August. Now, in the past two weeks, another glitch has reared it's head.

I am now receiving several messages per day, via the RIGHT edge "New Notifications" slide-in panel, that my virus protection is turned OFF.

1) I never TURN it off.
2) When I check, it always indicates as being ON.

Is anyone else having this problem? Recently or going BACK a while? Any ideas for a fix?Which Antivirus are you using that is showing as enabled yet disabled?

Are you able to run a full virus scan with latest definitions and have it come up clean with no problems?Three things happen. First a little flag slides in to the screen from the right edge (over whatever I have on my monitor) and says words to the effect..."Your virus protection is off." It happens fast before I can copy the exact words, and then slides back off the screen.

If I then left click the little icon, on the screen bottom, immediately to the left of the time and date in the right corner, a whole panel slides on to the screen from the right side, with heading at the top - ACTION CENTER. There is a message below whose exact words were -

I am using Windows Defender and Webroot SecureAnywhere.

The Win 10 panel is not trying to sell me anything, or get me to down load anything. This is the same panel on which "hot" news headlines appear from time to time, and on which it INVITES me to try OFFICE. While OFFICE came in Win 10 I don't use it, never bought it, and have never wanted any version of OFFICE.

Either Defender or Webroot will run full scans indicating no problems found.

I would very much appreciate any advice/help on this problem. I am totally PUZZLED as to how to recover from it.

On Sunday, 27th September, I STARTED downloading Windows 10, to my MSI laptop, model number CR640.

The downloading WORKED well, and I was able to use the Operating System. However, after 2 days without PROBLEMS, I was suddenly faced with a screen asking me for a password. I remembered my password, and tried to input it. I could not. After this, the machine crashed.

I got so angry, and tried to desperately re-install the system. I successfully re-installed the system: it was a “clean” install. But then, when I shut the machine down, it crashed again.

A few days later, I contacted the manufacturer, MSI. They told me that my model of laptop was not recommended for updating to Windows 10. It was to do with my vbios. However, this does not explain why my machine worked for 2 days.

If the driver was to blame, how could it work at all? Does anyone have any ideas as to why my machine crashed?

Lets say that i downloaded a pdf FILE. If i put that file on to the DESKTOP it will be there. But when you restart your computer or shut down your computer, you log back on and its not there.

If i download poweriso, i install it into c: drive and it will work. But when you turn the computer off or REBOOT it, you log back on and its not there

I know its not a virus. Its like a school computer you can only save it into your drive. If you save it into a desktop it wont be there

I think someone put a system restore or a default. so when you turn it off it will reset it to the what you had when you turned it on

The other day my computer got stuck on the "Shutting down..." screen so I ended up shutting it down by force, something which I have grown to regret. I'm getting a BUNCH of errors in Windows Event Viewer all complaining that Windows couldn't load classes registry file. In the registry, there is no entry in the hivelist for the current user classes.

However, symptoms include the wallpaper not loading, not being able to bring up the Start Menu, etc. I believe I have really brought it down to the user profile not getting fully loaded correctly. However, the fix is not entirely clear, since all guides that I've found were for Windows 7 or before, and the fixes did not APPEAR to work on my Windows 10 box. I would prefer to be able to fix the user account currently in place as opposed to creating a new main user account.

As a note, if I create a new account and log into that one, the Start Menu/Wallpaper work just fine, it's just my main account that's broken.

Some PEOPLE are saying that it means the NTUSER.DAT file is corrupt and that recreating it fixes the issue. If that is truly the case, could someone point me in the direction of recreating that file?

I've made another observation that I cannot directly click-run programs from the Start Menu on the "working" users. When I click on the taskbar & select 'show windows side by side' it shows them stacked instead. It doesn't WORK the other way round - when I select 'show windows stacked' it shows them stacked, as it's meant to.

Any ideas why this is happening & how I can GET it to work as its meant to?

Ever since I upgraded to Windows 10, I've been having this really irritating problem. It seems that if I'm playing any one of my games and I'm watching a VIDEO at the same time, my computer will crash and my monitors will go to sleep. Generally, it's the monitors going to sleep that tells me that it's crashed. I can still hear sounds and usually one of my monitors will stay on for a few seconds after the others have turned off.

I have 3 monitors connected to my computer. I play my games on my main and watch videos on my secondary one.

This has happened while playing at least 4 different games and it doesn't seem to matter whether I'm watching my video player or in a browser window.

I do want to POINT out that I have no problems as long as I don't do both of them at the same time. I also did not have this problem when I was using Windows 7.

I have to hard boot my computer to recover it.

I have verified that all of my drivers are up-to-date. I have tried a clean boot. I have ran 'SFC /scannow'.

I've been working under the assumption that the problem is video related. I removed all nVidia software and drivers before doing a clean installation.

My NEXT step is to test my video cards and RAM.

Any input would be appreciated, as this problem is really driving me crazy.What kind of computer case do your have?

I RECENTLY upgraded to Windows 10 on my 3 year old laptop and it was running fine up until yesterday. When I shut it down it HANGS on a SCREEN with the dots that chase each other in a circle and stays there. I tried forcing shutdown by holding the power button but it just went to sleep. I have a Dell Inspiron laptop (~6 YEARS old) RUNNING Windows 10.

For some reason, I'm no longer able to use my wireless Logitech 505 mouse with it: the cursor does not RESPOND when I move the mouse. For reference, the same mouse works fine with another computer and the built-in touchpad works fine.

I'm using the mouse with a Logitech Unifying Receiver Replacement Wireless Dongle and the Unifying Software is not seeing the mouse. Moving the dongle to another USB port doesn't make any difference, and neither does using another dongle (I have several).

When I check the Device Manager, two device drivers are listed: HID-compliant mouse and PS/2 compatible mouse. So I guess the problem is that my laptop THINKS (incorrectly) that there is a PS/2 compatible mouse attached to it. When I uninstall the PS/2 compatible mouse DRIVER, it's automatically reinstalled on the next start up.

It all started Yesterday, now any time I open my antivirus or minecraft my mouse flickers to "working in background" mode insanely FAST which as annoying as it is odd. EDIT AGAIN: i did some further diagnostics to find out it was Zemna ANTI logger that was acting up because when i eneded it everything worked fine so i reinstalled it and now the issue doesnt happen YAY

I keep getting this ERROR message when I try to open google and most of the software I have on my laptop. I have tried all methods trying to solve this kind of error online, but none of them seem to work. Now I cannot install any software due to this error, and all the anti-virus software cannot detect any virus. I cannot reset my laptop or refresh my laptop. I clicked on them and after restart, it goes into Windows 10 directly and does no resetting work. I bought this ASUS laptop about 2 month ago with Windows 8.1 as default system. I got this error around 2 weeks ago, and the morning I found this happening, my Facebook account was hacked.

Our campus security team helped me. He used a lot of diagnosing tools but none of them work SINCE this bad image error kept appearing. I also post this issue on some other similar sites, and they asked me to do the SFC and DISM, which don't work. They also helped me with MiniTool Box, which doesn't give any useful information either. Last, they asked me to install Windows Repair All-in-One in safe mode with network. But I cannot access safe mode with network. I can go into safe mode but I can't enable the network. Then I tried to launch Windows Repair All-in-One in normal mode, but it came with the error "Invalid pictures" as shown.

MalwareBytes is not an anti virus app - it is intended to be used IN CONJUNCTION with an anti virus app. Please download, install, and scan with an ani virus app such as any of these: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2388652,00.asp

And while Windows Defender is an anti virus tool, it is not as HIGHLY rated as, say, AviraDone, ran a full DEEP scan with the anti-virus Panda and it removed MAINLY appdata stuff etc.

Hi, I have a new Hp Pavillion that operates on windows 10. It is under a year old, and it crashed for 24 hours. The disk drive worked and whenever it was plugged in, I could hear sounds coming from the computer whenever I hit the power button. The computer however refused to turn on, and the power on switch would not light up. After the 24 hour crash, upon investigating, I saw the power on switch blinking and the computer turned BACK on without a problem. I had also taken it apart after the initial crash and all the components were CLEAN and were not dusty. I'm a BEGINNER whenever it comes to computers and was hoping someone would have some input or suggestions as to what could have causes this mysterious crash. I also have a bad habit of leaving the computer on for long periods of time. I have seven Ethernet connected devices on my computer. I can identify five of them using arp-a and

the router network DISPLAY and match the addresses.
Two of them, I cannot identify the router calls them new-host: and new-host-2:
I would like to get the router descriptions corrected.
I am quite certain that one is a Maxtor one touch disk drive which is connected to the computer.
I don't know what the other one is. How can I determine the identity of these devices?

I think I've cocked up. I'm running windows 7 but then decided to try windows 10 as well. I installed windows 10 on a separate HDD and was able to switch between windows 7 ,or 10 by using the bios booting option
However because somehow or other the HDD's and CD roms were assigned drive letters out of sequence (CD roms were D & E, my 2TB Hdd was mixture of F to K). I decided to change the drive letters while I was in windows 7 but didn't keep a record of what the original Drive letters were.
Now I cannot get my Windows 10 to boot. I've tried with only the Windows 10 hdd connected, also tried with a Macrium W 10 repair disc in the CD Rom but no way will the windows 10 boot.
I cannot really understand why this should happen as the windows 10 is obviously on C drive on the other HDD. All I keep getting is messages via the Bios.

Is this change of drive letters possibly the reason for the problem as I've been using both systems for a couple of months and was just starting the migration from 7 to 10

Changing the Windows drive letter is not advisable. It has a 50/50 chance of failure.

I have though, had instances where multi-boot systems would either corrupt or overwrite another OS's boot records, even after a second or third boot, so there is the remote chance that the mbr CORRUPTION is unrelated to the drive change. There are ways to recover a mbr manually, outside of Windows and without a repair disk, but I haven't done that in ages and would be lying if I SAID I knew how to do it at this point. You could try EASUS partition manager, if you have a running Windows at this point in time.

Btw, why are you switching boot order through BIOS? Generally Windows will pick up on any additional installations and add them to the boot select menu.Many thanks for the reply. After a lot of messing I eventually managed to get W10 to boot again. I used the Macrium Rescue disk that luckily I did when I installed W10.
I'm still at a loss as to what caused the problem in the first place as both DRIVES wern't connected when I installed W10 and also both versions have been working for quite a while and I didn't change drive letters on the W10 drive.
I have a 4 gang switch unit on the front of my computer to control which Drives are connected when I boot the computer and I always have just one Active drive connected when I boot up.
Before this happened I was starting to see if I could automatically select which version of windows to load without having to go through BIOS every time but even booting into a particular version, with the other disconnected I still get a choice of 3, Both CD/DVD roms and the Active drive. I've tried easy BCD program but I had it installed on W7 Disk and couldn't get it to work I have since been told it should be installed on W10 Disk, so more exploration necessary.

DaveI have dual booted using this method for many years...the advantages are clear.
If 1 drives bootsector gets wonked you can boot to the other drive.
It makes your disk image files way more manageable in size.
Running protection apps can be done on 1 HDD at a time.

One thing you may want to do to avoid the drive letter confusion is give all your drives a volume label that you can remember...works for me...Hi Patio

Not sure I fully understand your post. Which method have you used? Also don't know what you mean about booting to the other drive, I have W7 on 1 Drive and W10 on another separate Drive. What protection apps are you referring to?
When I tried to boot back into W7 from W10, through BIOS selection, I was told my data HDD needed checking (2Tb) I skipped the error check but then got a BSOD. Rebooted to W7 again but had to let the error check continue otherwise another BSOD would have occurred

I use the setup you have and select which HDD to boot via BIOS...the rest is self-explanatory.

I've read that the problem I've just had can occur over and over, something to do with MBR, which I don't understand. So perhaps I should just keep W10 on the SSD and only use sparingly. I was HOPING that I could slowly become accustomed to W10 and also gradually install programs which I've also got on my W7 but it seems that W10 is the one that causes the problems with the dual bootAll i am saying is the dual-boot method you have is the 1 i've used for years and prefer...for reasons LISTED above.
It's the cleanest method as the 2 OS's are totally seperate...including their respective boot loaders..
I would check the health of the Win10 HDD however with the Free diagnostics from the HDD manuf. site.Both Systems are on SSD's. It seems that both W7 and especially W10 are lightning fast on SSD's compared to HDD's. The HDD that is constantly been checked is a 2TB HDD purely for Data/downloads etc etc.

Do you have to constantly go through the BIOS when you boot to a new system? I would have thought that the BIOS would just choose the current SSD as I always switch off the SSD that I'm not using. Any idea what I could try to achieve that

I am gettingf tired of doing my password every TIME I BOOT Windows 10. Is there not some easy way to AUTOMATE this?

Also I would like to know how to reuse the hard drive that's already in my computer, it currently has another OS on it and is running on the computer I am writing this message from. I don't know what the steps i have to take to reuse the hard drive and reinstal a new OSRAM is not a problem.
Your motherboard will support two hard drives.
You can, if you want to, buy a new hard drive like the one you have. Or even a smaller one.
In the computer BIOS there is some way to select which drive is the boot up drive.
If you buy the Windows 10 disk, you do not have to do the upgrade step. Unless you want to. Even then, you have options.

I doubt a system capable of running Windows 10 will typically have a Floppy Drive. For the best, though- Windows 10 literally doesn't support Floppy Drives at all. (OK, that isn't true- it doesn't support Floppy Drive Controllers, so you can still connect USB Floppies)

As far as LEARNING fastly, this all comes down to how well you are at learning content. If you need visual video how to's etc, Youtube may have some content on this. Otherwise there is all sorts of info out there on google as well as local library might even have books on learning DOS and even better Batch that goes hand in hand with DOS.

*Only drawback to OLD books on DOS is that DOS has evolved over the years and so if the book is talking about DOS 2.11 there is a LOT of information missing from Modern DOS SHELL as well as some features of DOS 2.11 no longer exist from DOS 2.11 from around 1984. Systems with Windows OS also have VBScript which came with EVERY version of Windows since Windows 98.

Please help me. I am running windows 10 laptop upgraded from windows 7. My PC is running very slow that even when I wanted to open the start menu, the computer lags immediately. The average startup time is 3 minutes which is very slow and when I play just a simple game, it usually displays "not responding". And here's the shocker, my laptop has Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2450M CPU @ 2.50GHz with a ram of 6.00GB and has an NVIDIA video card installed. It's supposed to be fast given the specs but I am having serious troubles with the performance of my unit. I have ran many antivirus, antimalware, REGISTRY fixes, defrag and PC cleaners but the performance is still the same. Please help me with this.The fact that you have run "registry cleaners" and "PC Cleaners" has almost certainly contributed to your troubles. Those PROGRAMS cause problems, they don't fix anything.

1) Do you currently have more than one anti virus app installed? If so, uninstall all but one

2) Please run a full SYSTEM scan with MalwareBytes

3) Follow these steps for a selective startup and let's see what happens: Open msconfig and on the General tab choose "selective startup" (uncheck all three items) and REBOOT. Does the problem still occur? If not, start adding items back to msconfig one or two at a time, rebooting after each change, until the problem reappears and you'll have identified the offending process. This is clearly a time consuming procedure, but it is the best way to determine if some process loading with the system is the cause of your problem.

After you've isolated the cause, do not use msconfig to permanently disable the process. Instead, if it is a service go to START - RUN and type: services.msc (then press enter) and disable the service OR, if it a program, you can DOWNLOAD & run a dedicated app such as Autoruns (https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx) to enable, disable, or otherwise manage startup programs.
I would try a clean install thats what worked for me because my pc aswell was really slow after WIN 10 update untill i clean installed it
DIRECTIONS:
1. Download the media creation tool either 32bit or 64 bit here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 (make sure you have a formatted flash drive or a disk)
2. Backup anything you want to keep (photos, software, videos etc....)
3. Run the media creation tool and select the specified flash drive or disk.
4. Boot your PC on the disk
5. Choose your partitions (you can delete all of them if you like)
6. Let it do the magic and answer a few windows questions along the way then, VWALA you just clean installed Windows 10

So, if you are using windows 10, that means that you should have a Cloud account. I believe that you need to have a registered Microsoft Account @ live.com but, with it, you'll have a fair amount of "cloud" space to which you can backup all of your own file folders. If you don't want to go that route, you can go out, hopefully, and purchase an external hard drive. You can plug that into a usb port on your laptop and move all of your folders over to it, essentially, backing them up. Once you get your H.D. formatted and Windows 10 "cleanly installed," you can plug in the external hard drive and move everything that you put over there, back on to your computer. When and if you go through this process, take an inventory of all of the programs that you have installed on your computer, looking for and noting all of the product keys with which they are associated so that you can easily add that software to your clean install of Windows 10.
You could probably do a search that will lead you to an article that explains all of the things that you should prepare yourself to do BEFORE you do a "clean install" of your Operating System.

So I had a problem, with my user id being corrupted in WINDOWS 10. I tried RESTARTING it, restore points, didn't help.

In a fit of computer moronicness I started in safe mode and moved all my user data to the desktop. Now it's all gone, and I cannot find it. Does anyone have any advice for getting it back?For Win 10:

In 2012 I purchased (by email) and received a letter from M/Office to download Microsoft Office 2010.

I am now trying to download (as I am entitled to) a copy for my new notebook (Windows 10) assuming it will ACCEPT the program.

I am having difficulty in completing a download. I now cannot contact the PEOPLE in question (I can attach a copy of the email if wanted)

Since updating from WINDOWS 7 to Windows 10, I have noticed that some devices on my powered Usb hub are no-longer named under Device manager. I also use a PROGRAM called USBDEVIEW, that I used to disable certain controllers, but they are not named in that either now. Now I find it difficult to disable the controllers I want disabling, because I'm not sure which ones they are. Does anyone know why this update would suddenly stopped naming my devices? Thanks! Doesnt matter If CD is before USB Boot, as long as HDD is very last option on boot order. This way if CD/DVD is not satisfied by bootable media, it can look for USB bootable media and then boot or move on to PXE Boot and when that is not satisfied with a PXE service on the Lan, it then boots from HDD or SSD.Thanks for the information. I went into the boot menu and changed as you suggested.that10pin, it does help a lot if you include some specs about your computer next time you POST. Some models differ from others, especially if it is an older PC.
Sorry for not including specs. will do next time.Today I downloaded and installed Windows 10 upgrade update and was able to create a usb recovery drive. Go figure,If at first you don't FRICASSEE, FRY, fry a hen!
