Solve : Microsoft confirms Windows 10 will be its last OS? |
Answer» According to Microsoft, we won't see a Windows 10.1 or even Windows 11 for that MATTER. This doesn't mean the Redmond based company won't update its operating system, just that the update won't be named as it was previously, in the transition from Windows 8.0 to Windows 8.1. |

Solve : Optiplex GX520/GX620 System BIOS? |
Answer» Quote from: Geek-9pm on May 12, 2015, 01:55:56 PM Got the new build 10114 of Windows 10 preview. Same error code. No need to keep it a secret...I don't see it yet. STILL Build 10074. Same for both links. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/preview-iso http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/preview-iso-update-1504 Don't understand why it won't install on the Dell Optiplex GX520. Try the Windows 8.1 compatibility checker. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/compatibility/CompatCenter/Home Do you get this message? ,I stand corrected. The build is 1074, not the new version MS is testing. It runs well on My Dell Optiplex 745. It does not on the GX 520, the PC of this topic. Apparently it is not BIOS bug. It is a CPU shortcoming. (I mean it is for the 64 bit version, Using 32 bit there is no error reported. CPU-Z says it is a 64 bit CPU and will run 64 bit stuff.) I have been on this most of the day. Tomorrow I will show pictures. First of all, thanks to all. Next, I must apologize for my memory failure. No, not the PC, my brain. I should have remembered that I did this before. But somehow I read something that made me THIN it was BIOS. Really, if you want to run modern OS and Apps on a PC, it has to be unit made in the past few years. Specifically, 2007 onward. However, Windows 8.1 32 bit will run on older systems. Photo attachment 1. With regard to the Dell GX520: But Windows 8.1 64 bit will five an error message. Photo attachment 2. (Windows 10 preview gives same error.) Using the right Windows 8.1 adviser the detail shows. Photo attachment 3. This is the end of this. [attachment deleted by admin to conserve space]Quote from: patio on May 10, 2015, 11:29:24 AM With a 9 year old PC you cannot exactly expect Win10 to co-operate...just sayin...I still don't understand why the actual CPU Model numbers on these systems has yet made an appearance. Find out the CPU model and verify it has the necessary INSTRUCTIONS for the OS you are running. You would have saved a lot of time. You are right. I went down the wrong path. The model is Dell GX 520 The Mobo is Dell ORJ290 CPU is Intel Intel Pentium D 820 CodenameSmithField Socket 775 LGA Technology90 nm NorthbridgeIntel i945P/PL/G/GZ rev. A2 SouthbridgeIntel 82801GB (ICH7/R) rev. A1 The info above is not clear to me. But it is the CPU not the BIOS. Next year I will buy a better computer. The Pentium D 820 doesn't support the PrefetchW instruction. Furthermore, while it supports the LAHF/SAHF instructions, there is a bug in the CPUID instruction of some stepping which fails to report this capability in 64-bit mode. PrefetchW is also a 64-bit requirement. It is not a requirement for 32-bit. The "5D" error is because the NX/No Execute instruction is not enabled... Salmon Trout mentioned this already. The prefetchW error is odd GIVEN that prefetchW has been a No-op instruction on processors that support it for some time now. Thanks to BC, Salmon trout and others who helped. I should have remembered this. Because I was using the 64 bit Windows 7 with no problems, I found it hard to understand how something was missing. But I am not the only one. In fact, Microsoft has a hard time explaining all the issues that have come up with other instructions that a missing. An the year of manufacturer is not a guarantee of qualification. Looking back, more problems came up when MS went from Windows 8 to 8.1 with a new list of requirements for the CPU and the chip set. This was documented earlier elsewhere, but I missed it. Windows 8.1 and new woes. It would have been easier to provide tools that would give more information about the issues. As BC mentioned, the CPU I have also has other things wrong. IMHO this information, if widely know, would have started a riot in the PC marketplace. (See PCWorld link above.), Some quad-core CPU s were made and sold years after issues were know to exist in both Intel and AMD designs. There was never a product recall. We are talking about the 64 bit system software starting with Windows 8.1. This is not a problem with the 32 bit version of Windows8.1 now available. Just Google it and find a sites that offer the 32 bit version of Windows8.1 free trail. So, I have been beating a dead horse. Quote So, I have been beating a dead horse. http://gifsoup.com/view/1767326/guy-punching-computer-screen.html sorry feeling KIND of funny today. Solution Here...Poor Dell |

Solve : Problem while updating.....!? |
Answer» GUYS im using windows 8 version,...... and now i tried to install windows 8.1 and windows 10 on my PC but im facing a problem.........Guyzzz plz help meQuick suggestions. May a backup of some kind. Resize a partition and open up about 20 GB of free space. Install the new version in the new space. This is a custom installation, not an upgrade. If it fails, restore from the backup. Works for me. What exactly is the problem vs Help I have a Problem? You went from Win8 to Win10 PRETTY quick there,,,and havene't provided any DETAILS at all...In my opinion, people install Windows 10 on their Windows 8.1 systems before Windows 10 is officially released for public use are asking for problems. I have Windows 10 but it's on a separate PC, one that has nothing else on it. The other option WOULD be to RUN Windows 10 as a virtual machine so that the host OS is not affected by it.Agreed... |

Solve : The Various Editions of Windows 10.? |
Answer» Windows 10 Editions by Brett HOWSE on May 13, 2015 Quote This will be the main version sold on all consumer desktops, laptops, and larger tablet form factors. It will include continuum to TRANSFORM from a desktop operating system to the touch friendly tablet version, and of course include things like Cortana. Although not SPECIFIED, if it CONTINUES the tradition of Windows, Home will not be able to be joined to a domain and will be missing the business features.Click on link at top of photo. Also: The Windows 10 IoT Core for Raspberry Pi 2 was announced earlier. Core for Raspberry Pi Microsoft is trying hard to convert everyone to touch screen using its windows, but if someone has to go to touch system, majority will choose a teb or phone without MS operating system, i,e Android or iOS Quote from: tk-hassan on May 14, 2015, 01:35:31 AM Microsoft is trying hard to convert everyone to touch screen using its windows, but if someone has to go to touch system, majority will choose a teb or phone without MS operating system, i,e Android or iOSI don't think they are trying hard to convert everyone to touch screen using Windows. But, they are, of course, aware that touch-screen computing devices are becoming more common and they want to be a FULL player in that arena. soybean is right. Imagine a company that makes tennis shoes. But it learns that many people use them for running shoes. The company will cater to both groups. Example: Think of Nike or Reebok. Imagine what would happen if they announced that from now on they would only make shoes to be used on a tennis court. Common asphalt would destroy the shoe and void the warranty. Absurd? Yes, that is my point. Imagine is either r Apple or Microsoft made and OS that would only work on a touch screen. It will never happen. |

Solve : HSA & Windows 10 - any clue about support/advantages? |
Answer» What is HSA? Heterogeneous computing refers to systems that use more than one kind of processor. These are systems that gain performance not just by adding the same type of processors, but by adding dissimilar processors, usually INCORPORATING specialized processing capabilities to handle particular tasks.[1]Which links to: Shan, AMAR (2006). Heterogeneous Processing: a Strategy for Augmenting Moore's Law. LINUX Journal. That was years ago. At the PRESENT TIME it does not seem to be going anywhere soon. Other than the stories kinked to AMD. Quote HSA Foundation And AMD Hit 1.0 Release Milestone For Efficient Heterogeneous System ArchitectureThere is no proof offered to make the argument. We already have systems that employ more that one device with computational ability somewhere under the hood. They are given different names, but in fact they are micro-processors of some form. Just not all on one silicon slice. HDD Controller. USB controllers Keyboard Controller. Graphics processor. Wireless Router. Network Controller. Any of the above can be merged into one chip, if there was an economic need to do so. Some of the new Intel chips have the graphics on the same die as the quad core CPU array. But they don't call it "HSA". |

Solve : Checking in about Windows 10......? |
Answer» For what it is worth... With the full version of Microsoft's most expected Windows 10 operating system slated to be released to the public on 29 July, users registered as Microsoft Insiders will not have to integrate their Microsoft account (MSA) to their computers running the older Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 OSes to upgrade to Windows 10.What I think that means. Right now I am not using a PC with a registered version of Windows 7. But I do have two legal copies of Windows 7, but I am not using them now. The windows 10 is running well without windows 7 anywhere near it. So on July 29, or there after, I will have to make sure my Windows 7 is registered and active. Is that right? Quote from: Geek-9pm on July 10, 2015, 10:42:03 PM ...So on July 29, or there after, I will have to make sure my Windows 7 is registered and active. Is that right?Nothing MS has stated indicates that, but as Patio said: "Clear As Mud". If your Windows10-TP is updated to Win10-RTM, it will be registered & activated. Windows 7 should not be needed. My Windows 8.1 w/Bing tablet has no product ID, just a Windows 8 tag. Remember, there was (is) a difference between Upgrade Installs & Full Installs. If you did an upgrade to your Win7 machine, the Win7 PID was there to validate the upgrade & also maintained under Windows.old. Full (Clean) Installs need a PID starting with Preview 10062. If you did 10062 as an upgrade to a prior preview, no PID entry was required. I just TRIED reinstalling 10062 over existing 10062 because some features were not working & there were errors on Settings screen. Whatever was wrong was fixed & I didn't have to enter any new info. I installed all Preview machines from an iso download built to a USB flash drive with Win7 DVD/USB Download Tool.Perhaps this will clarify the "mud": On 20 June Microsoft's Gabe Aul seemingly announced that MS would give away a free copy of the new OS to members of the Windows Insiders test program. Later (June 22) he "clarified" that statement to EXPLAIN that testers on the Insider program will, like Windows 7 and 8.1 users, get a free upgrade to RTM on July 29th. However, to keep their version licensed, those that upgraded from Preview versions will need to stay signed up for future pre-release updates. http://blogs.windows.com/bloggingwindows/2015/06/19/upcoming-changes-to-windows-10-insider-preview-builds/ Quote from: Salmon Trout on July 12, 2015, 12:17:44 AM testers on the Insider program will, like Windows 7 and 8.1 users, get a free upgrade to RTM on July 29th. However, to keep their version licensed, those that upgraded from Preview versions will need to stay signed up for future pre-release updates. On that BASIS, I have burned the x64 Build 10162 ISO to a disk and installed it to my Dell D830 laptop, previously running XP, Core 2 Duo 2.2 GHz, 2GB RAM, (it was my Torrent box) and do you know what? It works just fine. I have got it to wake-on-lan and I can RDP into it, it runs Tor Browser and Vuze, and boots in 1 minute 5 seconds to a useable desktop. I have added Classic Shell for the Start Menu. One possible note regarding Windows 10 is that it doesn't support Floppy Drives. I got a Floppy Drive/Card Reader/USB Hub to use to fill the hole in the front of one of my desktop system's cases, and was stymied by why the Floppy refused to appear in Windows 10. It wasn't until I accidentally left a MS-DOS 6 boot disk in the drive when I restarted the system that I realized it must be Windows 10 that was the issue- as it booted MS-DOS 6 from the diskette without problem. Allegedly USB Floppy drives need separate drivers, though I've not plugged mine in to verify that.Quote from: Salmon Trout on July 12, 2015, 12:17:44 AM Perhaps this will clarify the "mud": On 20 June Microsoft's Gabe Aul seemingly announced that MS would give away a free copy of the new OS to members of the Windows Insiders test program. It works just fine. I have got it to wake-on-lan and I can RDP into it, it runs Tor Browser and Vuze, and boots in 1 minute 5 seconds to a useable desktop. I have added Classic Shell for the Start Menu.Installed x64 Build 10130, then upgraded to Build 10162 on Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop, previously Vista-32, Dual-Core T3200 2.0GHz, 4GB RAM. 64GB Sandisk SSD. It was my car's ECU interface & is now a backup for the tablet. It runs Win10-64 faster than Vista32 with the same hardware. Boot time is less than half. Another older Dell desktop Inspiron 530s Dual-Core E2200 2.2GHz, 3GB RAM, 160GB HDD also upgraded to x64 Build 10162. It's a lot slower than the laptop because of the hard drive being slower. It's just a test platform. so not important if have to go back to the old OS (Vista). My desktop runs a dual boot Win7/Win10. Haven't decided to keep it's Win10 going after the Win7 upgrade. I still run Classic Shell on all Win7 & above. I thing the "mud" issue comes from the word "Upgrade" as now defined by Microsoft. Many don't remember that there were 2 CD versions of Windows 95 & 98: Full & Upgrade. Upgrade was less expensive & required a Windows version to be already installed.I have found one issue with my Latitude D830, namely dwm.exe (the desktop compositor) using between 40% and 100% CPU all the time. on Windows 8 and later you can't disable it by choosing a Basic theme. I have downloaded the 32 bit ISO to try that out. (I believe they are being taken down imminently!) At the moment I am keeping the CPU temp below 50 by running the Power Saver power profile. I have read that often in Win 8+ dwm.exe high CPU is caused by Logitech Setpoint software but I don't have that. dwm.exe = Desktop Windows Manager As I compose this on the 1525, it's less than 5% for me. Total memory allocated is 1.9GB 1525 has Setpoint installed & running because touchpad is almost unuseable. I repaired the connector as per online help but it didn't make much difference. However, the keyboard is terrific. You're right about the iso link, it's gone. The link I was using (below) gets redirected. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/preview-iso Here's what it says: Welcome back, Insider Thanks for being part of the program and helping shape Windows 10. NOTE: We’re very close to the public release of Windows 10 so we’re not onboarding any new PCs to the Windows Insider Program just now. You can still onboard a supported Windows Phone and please do keep using Windows 10 on any PCs you’ve already set up and sending us great feedback! Still wonder if the final release will be available as an iso. The download is an esd & there is a tool to convert it. Here's how: http://www.zdnet.com/article/how-to-turn-your-windows-10-upgrade-into-an-iso/ I tested it on a previous esd before I started using the iso's instead. I must have got my 32 bit ISO very close to the line, then, the download completed at 19:15 UTC on 14 July.Do refresh, I added to my post.I installed the 32 bit ISO and dwm.exe is running at between (roughly) 1% and 2% most of the time.Searching for updates was taking a long time; did restart; then this notice "downloading H1 Professional 10240". Don't know how big it is, downloading now over wired connection (100Mbps). 2.7GB download Found this online: Unlike previous updates, which circulated under the “fbl_impressive” code name, this new build goes by the name “TH1 Professional 10240.” In practical terms that doesn’t mean a lot, though it does indicate that the build is on a different, internally validated release track from previous builds. Which is likely why it’s being issued to Fast and Slow rings simultaneously. Also, unlike previous builds, 10240 will not be available as an .ISO download. also this: http://www.windowscentral.com/windows-10-build-10240-released-windows-insiders-both-fast-and-slow-ringsI have 10240 running on a laptop; I am liking it more and more. Solve : Microsoft Edge Folder / File Location? |
Answer» I want to move Edge to the quick launch area but am unable to locate the folder containing the .exe file. Does anyone know where it's located? Thanks.I Googled this. I think it's a "Modern" app, on my 32 bit Windows 10, build 10240, which I believe is the RTM, the command line (and the target of a shortcut) would be Is there still a Quick Launch in Windows 10? You can right click the Start menu Edge item and choose "Pin to taskbar". In Windows 7/8/8.1 you can create one yourself by ADDING a folder toolbar that points at %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch and configuring it to only show icons. I've not tried that with Windows 10 but I'd be surprised (though only mildly) if they REMOVED that. I prefer Quick Launch to using 'Pinned' applications, myself. Thanks ST. And yes, my (self-created) quick launch from W8 remained intact when I upgraded to W10 |

Solve : Computer crashing when playing a game and watching a video at the same time.? |
Answer» Ever since I upgraded to Windows 10, I've been having this really irritating problem. It seems that if I'm playing any one of my games and I'm watching a VIDEO at the same time, my computer will crash and my monitors will go to sleep. Generally, it's the monitors going to sleep that tells me that it's crashed. I can still hear sounds and usually one of my monitors will stay on for a few seconds after the others have turned off. Is that your rig in your specs list ? ?I put the important stuff in the spec list. What do you mean by 'too much"? I never had a problem until I upgraded to Windows 10. I've been watching my temps and everything. Nothing above the norm. I disconnected my 3rd monitor and I'm only using 1 of my vid cards to power the other 2. The temp on the unused card is 37C and the other one is 52C. My CPU is averaging around low 40s (58C TJ Max). Solve : Laptop won't shut down or run any programs? |
Answer» I RECENTLY upgraded to Windows 10 on my 3 year old laptop and it was running fine up until yesterday. When I shut it down it HANGS on a SCREEN with the dots that chase each other in a circle and stays there. I tried forcing shutdown by holding the power button but it just went to sleep. When I woke it again, none of the programs would open and neither would the start menu. I pressed the windows button and R and typed in "shutdown /s /t 5" but it says "no such interface supported". |

Solve : Cryptsp.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error? |
Answer» I keep getting this ERROR message when I try to open google and most of the software I have on my laptop. I have tried all methods trying to solve this kind of error online, but none of them seem to work. Here is the link to the SCREENSHOT of the error: note that every software causes this error, and here are two examples: What is CRYPTSP.dll? However, there does not seem to be any info from Microsoft. Check in BIOS REAL quick and see if the timestamp is correct... If thats not wrong then run sfc /scannow from an elevated command prompt and re-boot.Quote from: patio on November 09, 2015, 03:13:38 PM Check in BIOS real quick and see if the timestamp is correct... The BIOS time is the correct system time. I tried sfc scan again. It says repaired corrupted files, but the error still appears. Some more investigation found that it is explained in the MS forums. The full name is: CryptoAPI Cryptographic Service Microsoft says you get this from somebody else. Quote Providers associated with Cryptography API (CryptoAPI) are called cryptographic service providers (CSPs) in this documentation. CSPs typically implement cryptographic algorithms and provide key storage. Providers associated with CNG, on the other hand, separate algorithm implementation from key storage. The following Microsoft CSPs are distributed with Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008Link Here... My guess. Due to security concerns, one can not just do a SIMPLE replacement of parts of this service. Help that is of some help. Quote from: Geek-9pm on November 09, 2015, 05:52:49 PM Some more investigation found that it is explained in the MS forums. I can do nothing to this file right now. Solve : An unusual computer crash? |
Answer» Hi, I have a new Hp Pavillion that operates on windows 10. It is under a year old, and it crashed for 24 hours. The disk drive worked and whenever it was plugged in, I could hear sounds coming from the computer whenever I hit the power button. The computer however refused to turn on, and the power on switch would not light up. After the 24 hour crash, upon investigating, I saw the power on switch blinking and the computer turned BACK on without a problem. I had also taken it apart after the initial crash and all the components were CLEAN and were not dusty. I'm a BEGINNER whenever it comes to computers and was hoping someone would have some input or suggestions as to what could have causes this mysterious crash. I also have a bad habit of leaving the computer on for long periods of time. Any input is much appreciated. If I were you, I would invoke the warranty - if the MACHINE is under a year old this should not be happening.Quote from: Destiny8745 on November 03, 2015, 03:04:44 PM I had also taken it apart after the initial crash and all the components were clean and were not dusty. I'm a beginner whenever it comes to computers ...Hmm, a "beginner" taking apart a laptop? I would never recommend beginners take apart a laptop unless you have an older one you can use for practice in learning more about them. If your computer is under warranty, you can contact HP for repair. Moreover, it might be BIOS problem. Do you have HP Support installed in your computer? HP support automatically check and DOWNLOAD updates every week if there are new updates needed. Lastly, you can try to reset your pc if you want clean start. Make sure you back up all your files. |

Solve : Upgrading to windows 10/Ram compatibility? |
Answer» So I have two questions, I am buying new computer parts to upgrade my computer If space is limited, you might pull out the floppy drive and not use it. Who ever does?I doubt a system capable of running Windows 10 will typically have a Floppy Drive. For the best, though- Windows 10 literally doesn't support Floppy Drives at all. (OK, that isn't true- it doesn't support Floppy Drive Controllers, so you can still connect USB Floppies)Long time, no see, Wefro. RAM: Yes, that RAM should be compatible with your board. HDDs: Do you want to keep any data from the drive? If not, just boot from the Windows 10 install media, delete the partitions on the drive during setup to leave a clean drive to install to, and away you go. If you want to keep any data, the best way would be to back it up elsewhere - onto an EXTERNAL drive for example - and then do as above, just remove the partitions during setup. It's fairly straightforward to do but if you need any clarification, just say Quote from: BC_Programmer on November 30, 2015, 03:00:04 AM I doubt a system capable of running Windows 10 will typically have a Floppy Drive. Solve : best analytics?? |

Answer» Whats the best website analytics TOOL for my siteFor most websites I'd just stick with Google Analytics - Well supported, free and has enough expansion potential to ALLOW you to TRACK reasonable amounts of custom stuff. It can also cope with very high traffic and is well supported by other external tools.Have you LOOKED at the analytics PROVIDED by your hosting service? They might provide all the info you need. |

Solve : BIG PROBLEM PLEASE HELP? |
Answer» Please help me. I am running windows 10 laptop upgraded from windows 7. My PC is running very slow that even when I wanted to open the start menu, the computer lags immediately. The average startup time is 3 minutes which is very slow and when I play just a simple game, it usually displays "not responding". And here's the shocker, my laptop has Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2450M CPU @ 2.50GHz with a ram of 6.00GB and has an NVIDIA video card installed. It's supposed to be fast given the specs but I am having serious troubles with the performance of my unit. I have ran many antivirus, antimalware, REGISTRY fixes, defrag and PC cleaners but the performance is still the same. Please help me with this. The fact that you have run "registry cleaners" and "PC Cleaners" has almost certainly contributed to your troubles. Those PROGRAMS cause problems, they don't fix anything. |

Solve : Controllers not named in Device Manager? |
Answer» Since updating from WINDOWS 7 to Windows 10, I have noticed that some devices on my powered Usb hub are no-longer named under Device manager. I also use a PROGRAM called USBDEVIEW, that I used to disable certain controllers, but they are not named in that either now. Now I find it difficult to disable the controllers I want disabling, because I'm not sure which ones they are. Does anyone know why this update would suddenly stopped naming my devices? Thanks! Clik Show Hidden Devices in the View Tab...Quote from: patio on March 16, 2016, 05:40:24 AM Clik Show Hidden Devices in the View Tab... I tried that and also scanned for hardware devices but still no joy. I've also reinstalled the Universal Bus controllers, but no joy there either. Some controllers are named, but not all of them. Edit: I'm just WONDERING if there is a way to edit anything in device manager, like adding a name or something so that I can recognize the controller. Anyone know if this is possible? |
