Solve : Logins to my PC every few minutes? |
Answer» I have an Acer Aspire ES1-512 using Windows 10.0.16299. Recently I learned how to look at all the successful logins using Event Viewer -> Windows Logs -> Custom Logs, and TYPING in the code for successful logins, 4624. To my surprise, I'm getting ONE every few minutes! Does any one KNOW if that MEANS someone's hacking into my SYSTEM every few minutes, or is there a more innocent explanation? Hi, Could you proved screenshots please? On a standard install of windows there are several system accounts that are setup and it could be these that are being logged in event viewer. Cheers, Karl |

Solve : "Access Denied" message on trying to access network shared folders? |

Solve : Command Promopt changed everything? |
Answer» Hi.. Dunno if anyone encountered the same problem as me. I have a 2TB hard drive by WD. I use it to connect to my Smart TV (watching movies and listening to music) and also onto a MAC at work and Windows Laptop at home. It recently went corrupted and I was unable to access the files on any of the computers plus was unable to see it on the Smart TV. But I partially resolved it with Command Prompt. Now it's working on Windows OS. But still invisible on the Smart TV and MAc. Any ideas? On a MAC? On a PC? Same drive? A less obvious, but possibly the best solution to using a hard drive with both Windows and Mac without the use of third-party software would be to create two partitions on the drive, on for Windows and one for Mac. This essentially tricks the computer into thinking there are multiple hard drives connected to the computer at once despite there only being one.Is that what your are doing? EDIT: Anybody can now buy a good 256 GB USB thumb drive for under $35. That is enough for lots of standard MP4 movies. Use FAT32. Forget the portable HDD. Quote from: Geek-9pm on July 28, 2018, 11:17:19 AM EDIT: Anybody can now buy a good 256 GB USB thumb drive for under $35.I thought, "Crazy ol' Geek got his figures wrong again!" so I did a QUICK Google, and you know what, you're right! Here in the UK I see a 256 GB (USB 3.0!) pen drive for 27.99 UK pounds, that's 36 USD approx. Wow. I was give an unwanted 320 GB hard drive by my boss at work, I was going to buy a USB 3 enclosure for around that price. I think I won't bother. I'd be interested what he did with command prompt...If you are formatting the USB drive remember to use VFAT rather than FAT32 because FAT32 has a 2GB file size limit. |

Solve : Two pcs with one Windows 10 license? |
Answer» This is not a new TOPIC. It has been bounced around many times. But the right answer is not just a quick yes or no. Example: Some companies obtain a single license from Microsoft to ALLOW them to install Windows on a number of PCs under specific rules. Another example: A TECHNICIAN may be recognized by Microsoft ans a trusted person who with temporary operate a customer PC with his own copy of Windows to perform diagnostics. Ano0ther case: A user wants to upgrade to a better computer and he has a license to legally let him have Windows on two computers for a short time as a help in transferring files and strings. For a more, look at these: https://www.groovypost.com/howto/transfer-windows-10-license-new-pc/ https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-windows_install/two-pcs-with-one-windows-10-license/8f758521-0d30-4f89-9191-a959356895cb https://www.techadvisor.co.uk/how-to/windows/how-install-windows-on-more-than-one-computer-3641869/ The above are all legitimate. Example #1 is a multi liscense agreement... Example # 2 is irrelevant as it wouldnt be a LEGAL install... Example #3 is temporary. What exactly is your point ? ?You don't understand #2 A Technician can have permission to use Windos10 to diagnose a customers;s computer even if the customer does not have windows 10. It is also temporary thing. You can install Windows 10 without a license, but it won't activate. You do not need a Product ID to perform the install. It will function but does not allow personalization. https://www.windowscentral.com/you-do-not-need-activate-windows-10 |

Solve : Email message not going with my email? |
Answer» Email message not going with my email. It sends but It forgets to send the message. You don't have to settle for the email service that came with your internet or web hosting and you CERTAINLY don't have to pay a ton of money to get a great email service; you can be picky. And when you are, your chosen email service will reward you with plenty of – possibly unlimited – storage, effective spam filtering, a fast and productive web interface |

Solve : How can I run very old software under Windows 10?? |
Answer» After using an XP computer for 14 years, I was thrilled to find Frys Electronics offering an A possible alternative is to find newer software that is compatible with your old files. For instance, Office 365 would be able to read/write your Office 2000 files. LibreOffice (which is free to download) can read/write Office and Wordperfect files.I'd go this route. Regarding Nero, why do you need it? Have you explored the burning CAPABILITIES built in to Windows 10? You might find you no longer need Nero. |

Solve : Snap for just Firefox? |
Answer» I really like the feature of Snap where if you drag down the title bar of a maximized Firefox window, the window HALVES in size. However the auto-maximizing of smaller windows I find a real nuisance. Is there a way to have the feature that I like, without having to SUFFER the irritation of the other ? I thought maybe a SNAP confined to a program of choice - like you can do with 'Always on top'. Does anyone know ? I run Win10 32bit v1803 on a PCI can leave SNAP disabled to avoid unwanted resizing, and resize Firefox by means of Win-Up and Win-Down hotkeys. The options that are provided within Windows itself are somewhat limited, but the internal settings, which are stored in the REGISTRY, might provide the additional granularity you want. |

Solve : slow motion video streaming? |
Answer» I watch a bunch of streaming tv and netflix. Sometimes for no apparent reason, EVERYTHING is in slow motion, the picture, the audio, everything. I can shut down the computer for several minutes and then start, again, it will work fine the rest of the evening. Is there any WAY to fix this? I use internet EXPLORER, windows 10. My computer is hardwired to tv, I use hdml cable. thanks.Do you mean the video plays at 50% speed or the video is buffering slowly? No, it isn't buffering, just slow motion. I went to Microsoft site and asked the question, it said to use software rendering instead of the what it was set for. I tried it, the picture was far worse, went back and reset to original setting, worked ok after that. |

Solve : BSOD Critical_Process_died? |
Answer» Hey guys, t said my SSD is still at 93% health.A 93% good for any storage device is not good 'nuff. Good quality 78 RPM vinyl records do that good. Install Windows on a standard HDD an see what you get. Hey thanks for the reply, I will install windows on my standard HDD as my last resort since I love the speed of SSDs. I recently had a chance to screenshot one of the CMD prompts that randomly popped up, and I will also attach a picture of my CrystalDiskInfo readings. edit: sorry I thought it was at 93% it is actually at 92%My suggestion is a why to reduce the amount of time you have to use to diagnose the problem at hand. You must have a 100 % working system to test something that is failing. You have to install Windows on the good HDD. Maybe I shooed try an ILLUSTRATION. If you suspect your submarine will sink, you don't put it in the ocean. You put it in a place where you can safely test it for leaks. Do you see what I mean.? Which PSU do you have in that unit ? ? |

Solve : Windows 1803 Update Keeps failing.? |
Answer» Windows Update 1603 keeps failing on Toshiba Windows 10 Laptop. Assuming you have plenty of free space for the update to take? As many people will recall, Microsoft originally offered Windows 10 free option to Windows 7 users, and then force upgraded as time ran out. Microsoft did the installation. There is plenty of space for the upgrade to 1803, but a clean install sounds a bit severe for an update. Quote from: Geek-9pm on July 31, 2018, 12:36:45 PM If he has another PC nearby, he can do these steps: Would only want to install new copy as last resort. Quote from: Mark. on July 31, 2018, 03:53:08 PM what error message/code do you get when the update fails? I don't see an error message for 1803 but I am sure that there was one earlier - before the machine shut down. It tried to update KB4023057 at the same time, and is showing an error code of Ox8024a206 for that. For the 1803 update it often says that Something Went Wrong after hours of trying to install.See here...That should keep me busy and out of trouble for a while patio! And maybe even resolve the problem.Good Luck...Thank you!My experienced was similar. I succeeded by downloading the ISO for v1803 to a folder on C:\ , and running the SetUp from there. It depends on the PC, because I have also done the upgrade on a different PC without any hassle. I did it from the USB STICK - mounted the ISO, and clicked on SetUp. |

Solve : Change From UEFI Boot To Legacy Boot With Windows 10? |
Answer» Has anyone recently purchased a HP Laptop Computer Model - Micro-Edge-WLED-Backlit..etc. It has a 15.6 inch screen, 256GB SSD, 8GB RAM, and a CPU speed of 2.4GHz. I am very INTERESTED in buying one myself but I need to know with the Windows 10 OS on it if it's possible to go into the BIOS and change over from the UEFI boot mode to the LEGACY mode. It is quite possible with modern Lenovo LAPTOPS I recently discovered. It appears almost impossible to get through to HP to ask questions like this! |

Solve : Having booting issues with my Windows 10 new gaming pc? |
Answer» My COMPUTER is taking forever to boot, I'm TALKING like 5 minutes to boot and is super slow but eventually after waiting like 20 minutes it starts to go back to normal. This happens every time I get on it. I did a CDI report on my SSD which Windows 10 boots off of and it says it still good. Any suggestions? The fast answer is to shut down your computer as seldom as possible, but I know that's an UNPOPULAR OPTION and doesn't solve your underlying issue. |

Solve : What can I do so that microsoft doesnt know I dont have a genuine windows 10? |

Answer» Now I know that most of you may be angry at me for even mentioning this but please bare with me.I am building a pc on a budget and I really need the extra 100 dollars plus the store (and other stores)when I mentioned installing windows 10 they just told me that they would install a pirated version so please if you can answer me.I believe the only way of having a genuine windows 10 is through the media CREATION tool from the microsoft website which microsoft does not recognize as non genuine but if the guy (who would build my pc)would download the os with a different method (because I didnt ask him how he would download it exactly)then what could I do to ensure that microsoft would never be able to know that I dont have a genuine pc?I know microsoft collects data anonymously when for example I download something so are there some security settings which I can disable so that microsoft cant COLLECT data thus they cant FIND out that I dont have a genuine os?or are there other THING I could do.Topic Closed... |

Solve : W10 not booting - arcsas.sys? |
Answer» Hello everyone,
EDIT: from what I REMEMBER and know, my PC is running 64 and the Logfile from first picture (SrtTrail.txt) is located in system32, couldn't this be an issue? Again sorry for my POOR knowledge of OS Quote Command prompt - THE ONLY THING WORKINGCode: [Select]wmic path softwarelicensingservice get OA3xOriginalProductKey Code: [Select]C:\>wmic path softwarelicensingservice get OA3xOriginalProductKey OA3xOriginalProductKey 8xxxx-Jxxxx-Cxxxx-Hxxxx-Yxxxx(I redacted my product key!) All Windows, 64 or 32 bit, have a System32 folder.I tried that command but firstly i had to select which account should start command prompt. I've chosen mine that should be admin account, it's connected to my outlook account and protected by password. Strange is in command prompt i got X:\windows/system32> and I had no media named X (maybe it's some special directory on hdd for my account ? don't know)
So I tried that powershell way mentioned in link : https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/617124/use-command-prompt-or-powershell-to-find-windows-product-key/ POWERSHELL OUTCOME: https://imgur.com/gallery/ukWMHGB
Thank you very much for your time, I truly appreciate it! ThanksMirEso, your right. If you upgraded to Windows 10 during the free period, you don't have a product key, though you do have a digital license that you can access by signing into your Microsoft Account on a new computer. EDIT: When you did the free upgrade, you did not get a new 5x5 key for Windows 10, but your PC was assigned a digital license. If you need to reinstall Windows 10, simply start the install and you have an option to skip entering a key if you are reinstalling. Your PC will automatically activate after setup completes and you connect to the Internet; assuming your motherboard has not been swapped. How does microsoft associate a windows 10 license to a motherboard? Does windows put a flag in the NVRAM?No...it writes to the BIOS... I guess you could call it what you did technically...No writes to BIOS or NVRAM, I think. When first installed Windows generates a hardware signature - CPU, HDD,, mobile chipset all have unique serial numbers, that signature is sent to the. Solve : Protecting Portable Drive? |
Answer» I can't believe I've NEVER worried about this before... On a related note... Does anyone have any recommendations on how to secure data on a portable drive? You know, in case it's lost/stolen, etc.? If you travel with this data to where it can be stolen, I'd say anything critically personal such as banking and taxes etc leave at home in a place that no one would steal it from. Additionally a backup copy of this can be stored off site at a family members house or even a LOCK box at a bank. When I travel with my laptop and any other media, I never travel with a system or data on devices that if stolen I have to worry about identity theft etc. I never use encryption on my data. Years ago I used a tool to lock my data and then lost access to my data. I realized that all I really needed to do was to isolate EXTREMELY personal sensitive data from that of which is not that critical and so when traveling I will have my music and games etc, but none of my banking or other personal data on me, so if the laptop was ever stolen or any of the devices lost or stolen no one could ever run with it and ruin my credit etc. If you don't want to have the FEAR of getting locked out of your data forever, then splitting data that is critically personal and not required in your travels from data that is not critical is a means of protecting yourself. Challenge is, I travel weekly. So unless I want to have access only to personal data on Saturdays (I can tell you, doing bills and taxes on your one day home is no way to make friends), I need to travel with personal data accessible. And I have a work-issued and -maintained laptop, so I don't feel comfortable storing it there. I guess one option would be to have a home PC with the data backed into the cloud and only access it via the cloud, but I'd rather have a drive I carry with me that's safe and will self-destruct within five seconds if teh wrong people snag it.Bitlocker will work unless the people you don't want to have access to the drive are the NSA or Law Enforcement, in which case you are probably already playing a dangerous game of some sort anyway. Funny, my password is "NSA_R_People_Too". And the folder is called "Dangerous Games". (Just kidding, it's called "Porn". Duh!)I recommend BitLocker as well... but just curious to anyone on this thread, are there more 'secure' methods of encryption than BitLocker? Even if its just as good let me know any programs you're aware of. |

Solve : winamp help this one? |
Answer» I have been using an OLDER version of Winamp for about 8 years (5.666 the last official release, thought it was older but I was mistaken) primarily because I use a bunch of plugins for game music like PSF, SPC, and VGM that have plugins that do not work on any more recent media player of any sort. Up until now, I had no problems, but now that I have a new computer and Windows 10 pro, MIDI files have stopped playing. No matter how I open them, Winamp will not plauy them. MICROSOFT says "use Windows Media Player", but that will not PLAY my other files and I do not use garbage players like WMP anyway as it has almost no functionality and tons of adware. What is the issue here? What did Windows 10 Pro do to stop MIDI play functionality? This is really upsetting since NO media player released in last 15 years comes close to Winamp's ease of use, and no other player actually plays all, the video game music rip files as above. Not only that, but the new version of Winamp is literally vaporware now. What is going on? Were MIDIs phased out or something? How do I get the ability to play them BACK? This same player does work on Windows 8 and Windows 10 HOME, and my Windows 10 Pro is a fresh clean install with zero bugs. ONLY MIDI files don't work. What gives? What did they do to disable MIDI playback outside Windows Media Player and how do I fix their crap?MIDI files play fine for me in Winamp on Windows 10. |

Solve : bsod while idle? |
Answer» My PC bsod's while idle and I have no idea why it is doing so, it's been happening for over a year at this point, only happens when the pc is idle or when I'm doing some non-heavy STUFF like web browsing, so far it has never crashed while under heavy load. Crashes happen with a different stop code every time and sometimes bluescreen viewer identifies, ntsokrnl or npfp.sys files as culprits. I've tested my ram sticks, and they passed memtest without any errors. IVE also tried updating my bios, uninstalling and reinstalling gpu and cpu drivers and unplugginh and re-plugging gpu and cpu power cables. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1w6P6Nbyh4Gx4wxQ0MzhBV40StGGSKTm9/view?usp=sharing - minidump files http://speccy.piriform.com/results/vk4RR4oo4nIsTyCTx1flFkV - specs (i run the ram at 3200mhz, I recently changed it 1600mhz to check if that was CAUSING the issue) ive also run chkdsk and sfc/scanow I'd run crystaldiskinfo on all drives as I see you have many. Make SURE their SMART data reports back that all are healthy. Its able to point out issues with HDD and SSDs. If one of the drives is acting up of the many that you have it can cause a bsod. |

Solve : FRAPS 3.5.99 not working with Windows 10 64-bit? |
Answer» So I decided to upgrade my one spare system to Windows 10 64-bit using the free Windows 7 64-bit to 10 64 bit upgrade path. Everything seemed ok, and so I launched World of Warcraft and started playing that. I then loaded up Fraps and decided to see if there was any problems with that and found out that while Fraps does launch when I tell it to. The hot keys to start recording the video game dont function. I cant record video or screenshots using fraps. Tried using different hot keys and nope. That didnt fix it either. Went to Fraps website and the version I am running is the latest version but I noticed that they dont advertise it as being compatible after Windows 7. Dear Dave,Quote from: DaveLembke on October 30, 2015, 03:15:39 PM Got a response from them on my support ticket. This is what they shared. Thank you very much Dave, for sharing this official response. Its been 5 years since that last version of 3.5.99, and 2+ years since that reply about next version, still not a single version was released after that. Making this post, only to save someone else's time, in case they stumble upon this issue in the future. Guess Fraps is done. (BTW, apart from my win10 I've experienced this issue in win7 many times. Still, Fraps was my first preferred win7 screen recorder as it worked most of the time, and was a great piece of software). And 3 years since they were here...Hi, I have been trying to record p3dv4 but it will not record any idea Thanks, Matthew RusselIn the future its best to start a new thread vs adding questions onto an OLD one. But this is what I have been playing with for recording and its free. It allows you to stream video content as well as record offline. https://obsproject.com/ |

Solve : Can I Install and Run Win 10 from USB Backup Drive? |
Answer» I Was reading about the ability to run your personal copy of Windows 10 on any compatible PC you happen to be working on at different job sites - all, conveniently, from a portable USB backup drive. The applications that you want to use from the Windows To Go workspace should be tested to make sure they also support roaming. Some applications bind to the computer hardware which will cause difficulties if the workspace is being used with multiple host computers. I am surprised that the build can adapt to differences in hardware between systems if I am reading this correctly. During a Windows install it detects hardware and builds to that system. That is why you cant generally take a hard drive out of one system and put it into another and have it work properly, usually a BSOD boot loop unless you have very close or exact hardware match to the system the drive came out of. With a system that was extremely critical years ago, I put the drive into a different build and performed a repair installation which got the VoIP Server back up and running back in the days of XP Pro and was able to migrate the system from a Pentium 4 that died to a AMD Athlon 64 Dual-Core to get the phones working again for the business I worked for. And because the replacement computer was sold with XP Pro and the system that died was XP Pro, it was a ethically ok means of bending the EULA to get the VoIP system back up and running because Microsoft wasnt cheated! The OS were an exact match to version and the VoIP Server software simply traveled to the healthy computer hardware WITHOUT having to install it from scratch and program the system all over again as for the software had no easy EXPORT to migrate to a different system. The backup they had in place was Ghost image of it that was updated every once in a while after changes made to peoples phones, so that in the event of corruption or crash you could push the Ghost image to it and be back up and running. All good until the hardware itself dies and you cant locate an exact match computer to push the ghost image to. Lastly it looks like you need specifically approved USB drives to do this as well: Quote WarningQuote from: DaveLembke on July 02, 2018, 10:49:13 PM Windows is only licensed to be ...non transferable.Yes, most of what you want can be done with a Linux on a stick. Most of the major Linux distros can be run from a USB device. You can surf the web, check your e0mail and post pictures on Facebook. Even edit a letter compatibly with MS Word. But select a good high quality and high-speed USB device. It does matter. A 32 GB is nice, but even 8 GB will work. If anybody is interested in the ALTERNATIVE choice... here is a recent link: https://www.lifewire.com/create-uefi-bootable-linux-mint-usb-2202084 You can run the Linux Mint is 'live' mode and not install it. With a fast USB stick it is suitable for general work when you are away from home. And yes, I did use Windows to go once. Just curious, has anybody used WintoUSB ... supposed to allow you to install and run a fully-functional Windows operating system on an external hard drive or a USB flash drive. https://www.easyuefi.com/wintousb/That is the tool mentioned in my second link. https://www.disk-partition.com/win2go/rufus-windows-to-go-misssing-0310.html |

Solve : Help! PC in boot loop!? |
Answer» It’s making a kind of ooooooo noise. It’s a used Latitude E6330 running Windows 10 (Dell), just bought it used at an auction. It started last night, I got a BSOD last night, sound worked, today, tried to watch a movie on YouTube, volume on 70 percent, no sound. Then it crashes and went into a boot loop, tried to enter BIOS but couldn’t, it gets slightly warm on the left side but not very, increases very slowly, not fast. Plugged into charger today when used, EVENTUALLY got into startup repair menu, mostly unresponsive, very slow reaction to touchpad buttons, touchpad buttons worked fine earlier. Now it won’t respomd to touchpad buttons in startup repair menu and is in a freeze. Please help! What did you pay for it? Did the vendor make any remarks about condition? Failing HDD...replace it.I'm just trying to make sure it's not something else, I don't want to jump to conclusions. No offense to you |

Solve : You and Me drinking 1803 Windows? |
Answer» Did you drink it? I did and my PC got very sick. You don't have to submit to any Windows upgrade or update if you don't want to, I thought. Insider or not. You can adjust your settings, isn't that right?Windows Insiders have some control over updates. You can choose whether to get them at a Slow pace or a Fast pace. You also have a choice of 3 options for what is actually contained in updates: 1) Just fixes, apps, and drivers, 2) Active development of Windows, or 3) Skip ahead to the next Windows release. I have been in the Insider program since 2015, before the Windows 10 public release, and I have had upwards of 12 builds on my Dell laptop and I have never, ever had a build install except when I chose to. Likewise Windows Updates on mainstream retail Windows.Windows 10 Pro has Group Policies that allow you to decide when Updates and upgrades occur. If you set "Configure Windows Updates" then you still have control over specifically when, or even if, a system get's upgrades, even on insider. I use the setting to prevent surprises. The setting is more or less equivalent to what was available in previous releases of Windows. Windows 10 Home is far more limited in the control is gives the user. And leaves only a few options in terms of preventing updates. You can DEFER for up to 35 days, set your connection as metered to trick windows into not updating, Disable the Windows Update Service - etc. However, Microsoft has gone out of their way to make it quite an ordeal- without exhaustively disabling scheduled tasks and services, a Home system will eventually update and upgrade itself, as there are several scheduled tasks for "Server initiated healing" which effectively 'repair' things like services services and other tasks being disabled, Windows Update among them. It performs these repairs slowly, over time, seemingly in order to avoid detection, as well. The Tasks themselves typically have very high privileges and cannot always be edited even with administrator permissions. I had a heck of a time removing many of them even on Pro.Thanks. I would never have thought the Home version was less controllable. This issues were with the home version. Quote from: Geek-9pm on June 27, 2018, 11:44:55 AM I would never have thought the Home version was less controllable.Home or 'starter' versions tend to be severely cut-down or restricted in a number of areas. For one thing, they are intended for new users, who may be intimidated by too many configuration options, and for another, Microsoft wants your upgrade license money. Quote only mine gave me grief due to the unsupported Intel 600P NVMe SSD it has, so instead of waiting on either Intel or MS to figure that one out, I swapped it to a Samsung EVO SSD and all went well. This is the last thing Geek has to worry about...newer equipment...just sayin. Quote from: patio on June 27, 2018, 01:56:54 PM This is the last thing Geek has to worry about...newer equipment...just sayin.Right! I may never, ever buy a SSD after reading about other people's horror stories. Maybe in seven years Microsoft will be up to speed. Nothin wrong with SSD's...nothin MS is to blame for...as per usual.I have been using 2 SSDs in 2 PCs for the last 3 years. No problems at all. One Samsung Evo, one Sandisk Ultra. Not sure who i'm quoting but..."it ain't the equipment...it's the operator"... |

Solve : NTVDM and fullscreen ?? |
Answer» Hi! The message just said that the system does not support full screen mode. Click Cancel to teminate and clicking it closes Qbasic without even asking to save. Ignore button did nothing until second click on it and closed it anyhow. Reliability told me about NTVDM stopping Here is my very personal solution to this sort of small size issue. I have dual monitors, both 32 inch TV sets. I can set the secondary monitor-to a huge zoom size and do my work there. But I doubt you would want to use that kind of workaround. It takes twice the desk space in your room. Thank you for link, I look at later. Personal Q: I'm using three desktops - 3 LCDs and I'm using DisplayFusion where is possible to create separate config profiles - your suggestion is great... I think about this way never, again, thank you very much! This topic can be marked as solved! Thank you again! MiroI am not using Digital Fusion, but it is a free tool. For the benefit of all, here is a review of Digital Fusion and how it can help anybocy who wants to have custom monitors: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5fWc46ENiNE Yes, DisplayFusion is great tool and perfectly customizable. I'm using it since I had CONNECTED two LCDs, now with three LCDs it is much more perfect... Miro |

Solve : How to turn off only Win hotkeys that use the RIGHT Win key? |
Answer» https://www.nextofwindows.com/how-to-disable-any-specific-win-keyboard-shortcut-in-windows?unapproved=294596&moderation-ash=078b89d08b3106d9992818cda4eda901#comment-294596 claims that specific shortcuts can be disabled, but does not show how to distinguish between those using the left windows key and those using the right. I'd like to know how to turn off some that use the right windows key. Alternatively, to 'delete' all the hotkeys and then to re-enable only the ones I want. You think the TWO WIN keys are not the same thing. I have never seen anything about that idea. Here is a link: https://www.cnet.com/tech/computing/60-windows-10-keyboard-shortcuts-to-save-you-time/ The two WIN keys hare not identified as unique tin the reference above. Other reference: Quote Image result for when did MS make the WIN key?Does that HELP any? (There is more, but it is likely not what you EXPECT.) |

Solve : Desktop Hitting High/99% Memory Usage until it freezes and crashes? |
Answer» So, the PROBLEM I am running into is that when my COMPUTER is running for an extended period of time (can't gauge the timeframe well. Maybe an average of 7 hours of uptime), I eventually run into insane slowdown. Of COURSE, I'm trying to end any high tasks in Task Manager that could be sucking up this much RAM, but that doesn't seem to be the culprit. I wish I could give you the reproduction steps to what gets it in that state, but I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on why this was happening, what I need to be on the lookout for, and some ways to fix it. I can't tell if I have a memory leak, a malicious program, or something else. |

Solve : How can I access my files? |
Answer» Hi. I have two questions. My first question is there any way I can my previous post? I had a similar problem and the answer may be there. Second question as you can see from the SCREENSHOT that the files are in the folder but I can't them. It is only showing ONE file. They are not hidden. I tried that already. Can you please tell me how to gain ACCESS to the them?Clik your Pic or User Name...select Show Posts...You copied the files from a backup onto a DIFFERENT system, so they are not "owned" by your user account. You will have to Take Ownership of the files you restored from a backup (as per your other thread). Thanks Patio. I was able to find my previous post and realized that it is not that the same situation. |

Solve : Windows 10 sign in? |
Answer» I installed a new hard drive, used my recovery disk and re-installed Windows 8. I proceeded to upgrade to 8.1 and then to 10. On boot up, I can't seem to get it to let me GO straight to the desktop without saying "the username or password is incorrect". I then have to sign in with my Microsoft password to get to the desktop. I thought I had it licked but it came back. Advice on how to correct this WOULD be much welcomed.Never mind, I finally figured it out.Sometimes just talking about something helps a lot. And sometimes it's googling something 10 TIMES because of not GETTING a response from anyone.Your REFUND check is in the mail.Darn it! This means another pay cut, doesn't it?You guys crack me up. |

Solve : USB Drive - Missing Folders? |
Answer» I have a Seagate 1TB external USB drive that I keep music, videos, and photos on. I occasionally plug it directly into a TV or Blu-Ray PLAYER's USB port to watch video (or listen to tunes). I have a Seagate 1TB external USB drive t... You have made false assumption. You experience is not just one incident. This happens very often whenever you plug a large USB storage into a device that has not been certified for what you want to do. I think the filesystem was damaged by the hotel TV set. you will not recover most of the stuff. This is documented elsewhere.I actually didn't make a false assumption - I was pointing out that to automatically presume that, by virtue of the timing of the discovery, the teevee wasn't necessarily a cause. I was trying to caution against false assumptions. Chkdsk, etc., indicate no problems or bad sectors. Like I said, if it's lost, it's lost. But the "date modified"s are interesting to me.Pay attention. False assumption. Except if the TV set documentation explicit states it is safe to use any USB device with any file system. You did not even say what make and model of TV set was in the hotel. I do not believe your red the documentation. As of this date there is no legal requirement that the TV SETS will use the USB port the way you like. As it said, the problem has been documented. Most, but not all, TV sets will do what you want. A few do not. They do what they want. Here's one example of the TV set that does what it wants to do: http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2095376/hard-drive-formatting-plugged-smart.html Oh, Oh. I may have driven away the OP, rjbinney, by my harsh remarks. If so,I am sorry. What I wanted to say is that the USB to TV thing is still in its infancy and the issues have not been resolved. Even when a million users have no trouble, some do because of the lack of high level standards for USB to TV INTERFACE. Yes, USB is a defacto standard, but the file formats used are not. Some research shows these points of concern: A. The user must be familiar with the documentation for the TV set. B. Rules that work with Windows may not work with a TV brand. C. The TV set has a limit on the number of files. D. The NTFS is not fully supported by a TV brand. Or not at all. E. A brand of TV may not allow some content. This is not well documented. ** F. When the USB device is initialize d by the TV, results are better. Here is a reference to help identify the issues. https://www.techwalla.com/articles/how-to-play-movies-from-usb-to-a-tv Does anybody here have more specific information ? ** This is NOT a good reference, but t shows there is a potential DRM question. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_rights_management#DRM-free_works I couldn't find any instances of users having the same problem. The problem you linked, Geek, seems to be related to TV's formatting the Drives for their own use USING a non-windows file system. The model of the devices in question would help in determining if there are known problems related to those devices causing corruption like this. Possibly worth mentioning but I had a I had a 256MB Flash Drive that I used for ages which eventually died, and when it died, I got strange symptoms similar to those being described- Directories started to appear simply as files and leaving all their contents "orphaned", they received unusual dates, and some of them had corrupted filenames. Sounds very similar to the issues here. I had never even considered using the USB Port on my TV but apparently I can play a number of different Video formats from them without issue. Neat. Right. You can spend a lot of time trying to find a single cause of the problem. I have looked at a lot of articles that touch, but do not get deep into the problem. Here is one: http://www.videomaker.com/article/c10/15362-video-formats-explained But he does not say the format confusion is now over, nor does he even suggest that it ever will be. Another: http://www.redmondpie.com/hidden-android-secret-codes-for-samsung-htc-motorola-sony-lg-and-other-devices/ Again, not specific to the topic, but shows that TV makers do what the want with the USB controller or any similar controller. Users expect a drive written by Windows to be read by the smart TV and find it does not always work and they do not know why. Link: https://www.avforums.com/threads/will-ntfs-hdd-work-on-my-lg-tv.1713328/ Quote I thought once you'd initialised a HDD on the TV your PC wouldn't be able to see the data. That's what my LM960 manual says. That being the case it suggests you can only use if for recording and playing back. I'd also like to be able to move files to and from. Presently I believe the root cease is that the USB-TV interface is not fully defined in such a way that you can isolate the trouble. On a few TV sets the USB port is used for doing updates to the TV firmware. On some others the USB device can only show photos, not videos. As you u mention, if the USB device has had a failure, the disturbance to the file system might bring very strange things. Also worth mention, the USB controller itself is micro controller with its own COMMAND set. Just how a TV set might have been optimized to interface with a specific brand of controller has not bee published. It might be a secret. |
