A Shop on Fire

Shanti Provision Store is one of the prominent and biggest stores of Naya Bazar of Jaipur. Last night the store was on fire due to an electric short circuit. Perhaps it must have been an hour until the watchman, who was on his usual round, noticed it and informed the owner at the earliest. The fire brigade was called and the fire was brought under control before it could take the neighbouring shops in its grip. However, the owner of the burnt shop, Harsh Chauhan suffered a great loss estimated at around 10 lac. Mr Chauhan is under shock.

Morning Prayer Session in a School Jaipur, Aug. 11 : 

The Morning Prayer Session of Gandhi School attracted everyone yesterday. All the students, teachers and other employees were well in time on the assembly ground. The discipline, the neatness and the arrangement were marvellous. The peace, the melody, the involvement were remarkable. It began with ‘National Song and ended with ‘National Anthem’. Reading of daily newspaper, writing of questions of GK and GS, speaking of the “Thought for the Day’, listening of a very short inspirational discourse, rhythmic physical exercising of the students were some other elegant features. Everybody looked calm, composed and energetic.

15th August is a national festival of ours. It is a gala day. The Independence Day function was celebrated in our school with pomp and show. A large number of guests came to attend this function. The Principal unfurled the National Flag. The National Anthem was sung by all. The Principal delivered a short speech. He told us about the duties of the students. Students in our school presented a fine cultural programme. It was appreciated by all. The celebration was over at about 10:30 a.m. and the crowd started melting.away. Sweets were distributed to the students.

A Jobless Man Kills Himself

Jaipur, 10 March. A mail-train was coming from Ajmer to Jaipur. It was in full speed. It was running through a small station, when a young man of about 25 years, threw himself before the train and ended his life. The driver stopped the train. The driver, the guard and many passengers went to the spot (place) of accident. The man was crushed to pulp. The policeman searched the pockets of the dead man and found a letter there. The letter said that the dead man had been jobless for the last three years. He had an old mother, a young sister, a wife and a child. They were dying from hunger. He was hopeless (desperate). So he killed himself. People were sad. After some time the train started.

A Boy Saves Friend’s Life Kota : 

On December 24th at about noon two boys were returning from their school. One of them decided to swim and have fun in the local pond and the other sat down on the sands of the bank. The swimming boy seemed uncomfortable in water and soon began to beat his arms desperately. Moaning sounds were heard by the other boy. It appeared that the swimmer was drowning. The boy sitting on the bank was not a good swimmer but he jumped in water and somehow managed to reach his drowning friend. He pulled the drowning boy by his hair and arms and brought him out of the pond without fear of his own life. He has been recommended for bravery award on the Republic Day.

Guest Team Wins Cricket Match in Chaksu

We have two senior higher secondary schools in our small town Chaksu. It was decided that a cricket match should be held between the two teams. Our school offered to host the game at our ground. It was accepted. The match was played on Dec. 15 Sunday. It was a one day match. Hundreds of people from the township gathered to see the match. Our team appeared heavier in the beginning. We started batting and made an impressive score. We were full of confidence when we started bowling. Gradually we found that our bowlers were unable to send their batsmen to the pavilion. They continued to score runs very fast. At 4.00 p.m. we lost the match. However, we were happy to see the guest team winning.

Poor Facilities of Games and Sports

Tonk, 10 Oct. : There are about 500 students in Shri Jain Sr. Sec. School. There are poor facilities of games and sports in the school. The games material is old and useless. There are no proper playgrounds. The P.T.I. does not come regularly. The school charges games and sports fee at the time of the admission of the students. They charge Rs. 25/- per student. The school does not spend even Rs. 1,000/- on the purchase of games and sports material. The students have requested the Principal to purchase new games and sports material. He always gives only one · reply -“We shall arrange for new games and sports material very early.” There is much dissatisfaction among the students.

A House on Fire

Bikaner, 10 Oct : Last Sunday a house was on fire. I reached there. Many people gathered there. There were high flames. There was dark and thick smoke. Some people were crying and some were running here and there. A man and his wife were weeping. There were cries and shrieks. Some people were bringing water. They were throwing water on the fire. Some people were throwing sand on the fire. A child and an old woman were in the house. People were crying to bring them out. No one went into the house. The fire-brigade arrived there. The firemen ran into the house. They brought the child and the old woman outside. They were injured badly. They were sent to hospital. The fire-brigade controlled the fire in two hours. We thanked God that no one died.

Ambedkar School Celebrates Independence Day Function

Nayala, 16 August : India shattered the fetters of slavery on 15 August, 1947. It is a gala day. It is celebrated throughout the country on 15 August every year. It is a national festival. All the students, members of the staff and the Principal of Ambedkar school celebrated the Independence Day Function. Students stood in rows in front of the flag post. The Principal unfurled the national flag. All clapped again and again. The tri-colour was waving in air with pride. All sang the national anthem. The principal delivered a speech emphasising on our responsibilities to our motherland. Some students recited patriotic poems. The function was over at 10 a.m.

Bikaner, 10 Jan. There was a flower exhibition in the Public Park. The Municipal Chairman inaugurated the exhibition at 4 p.m. There were a variety of beautiful flowers. There were many kinds of rose flowers. Some rose flowers were red, pink, white and yellow. There were many other kinds of flowers. They were of different colours and size. Many people came to see the exhibition. They enjoyed it. Many school children came there with their teachers. They learnt much about the flowers. On the last day prizes were given away by the Collector. Everyone was happy.
