Six year before, the age of mother was equal to the square of her son's age. Three year hence, her age will be thrice the age of her son then. Find the present ages of the mother and son.

Answer»

Suppose, the age of the son six year before was x

∴ mother’s age six year before was x2

∴ present age of the son is (x + 6) and

present age of the mother is (x2 + 6)

Three years hence, son’s age will be (x + 9) and mother’s age will be (x2 + 9) by given condition,

x2 + 9 = 3(x + 9)

∴ x2 - 3x + 9 - 27 = 0

∴ x2 - 3x - 18 = 0

∴ (x - 6) (x + 3) = 0

∴ x = 6 or x = -3

But age cannot be negative ∴ x ≠ -3

∴ son’s present age = x + 6 = 6 + 6 = 12 years.

mother’s present age = x2 + 6 = 36 + 6 = 42 years.

find the quadratic equation whose sum and product of zeros are -3 and 2 respectively

Answer»

We have given that sum of zeroes(S)= -3

and product of zeroes(P) = 2

so the quadratic polynomial p(x)= k(x2 - Sx +P)

p(x) = k(x2 - (-3)x + 2)

p(x) = k(x2 + 3x + 2)

where  k  is any non-zero real number

Raj picks up a three digit number and subtracts it from the same number after reversing order of the digits. If the difference is divided by 9, then the remainder is ____________.1. 22. 03. 14. 3

Answer» Correct Answer - Option 2 : 0

Concept:

The difference of any three-digit number by its reversing number is always an exact product of 9 So, it is divisible by 9.

Calculation:

Let 100x + 10y + z be the number its reverse is 100z + 10y + x

Difference of the number will be

⇒ (100z + 10y + x) − (100x + 10y + z)

⇒ (100 − 1)z + (10 − 10)y + (1 − 100)x

⇒ 99z − 99x = 99(z − x)

So the difference of any three-digit number with its reverse number is divisible by 9 then the remainder is 0

∴ Remainder is 0

Write a letter to your friend, describing the joy of celebrating festivals in a village, with the inputs given above.

Answer»

21 Jan 2019 Chennai

Dear Manju,

Hope you celebrated the Pongal festival with great joy. I went to my village for the festival holidays this time. It was the most joyous and memorable period of my life. I shall never forget this. You live in city and for you a festival means a holiday and you can wake up late. Then eat all the delicacies prepared by your mum and go for a new released movie or watch television at home. Here in village, they gather in a common place and celebrate. All of them rise early and actively participate in the rituals. All the ladies make pongal and offer it to Sun God as a mark of thanksgiving.

On the third day of festival, we went to fair and played on giant wheel and merry-go-round. We ate lots of fresh made native delicacies like raw mango with chilli powder and salt, palmyra sprout, vada of different varieties, appam, etc. Then we watched the dancers performing folk dances. We also went to the river, to swim and then bathe in the water. Since I didn’t know swimming, I just took a bath. Time was spent observing and being with nature. It was full of fun! The joy of celebrating festivals in a village is truly unforgettable

Yours friendly, Deepa

Anita and Batuk undertake a project worth Rs. 27000. Anita alone can do the work in 10 days. They work together for 3 days. After 3 days, Batuk works alone for 3 days and Anita completes the remaining work in 3 days. What is the share of Batuk in the earnings?1. Rs. 100002. Rs. 180003. Rs. 108004. Rs. 15600

Answer» Correct Answer - Option 3 : Rs. 10800

Given:

Anita and Batuk undertake a project worth = Rs. 27000

Anita alone can do the work = 10 days

Calculation:

Anita can do 10% of work in a day.

Anita has worked 6 days in total. And so, has Batuk.

Anita completed 60% work in 6 days and Batuk did 40% of the work in 6 days

Efficiency of Anita and Batuk = 6 : 4

∴ Batuk’s share = 4/10 × 27000

C is 20% more efficient than B and 50% more efficient than A. If B alone can do the work in 72 days. Then find in how many days will A, B and C together will complete the work?1. 122. 243. 724. 48

Answer» Correct Answer - Option 2 : 24

Given:

C is 20% more efficient than B,

let ratio of their efficiency be 6 : 5

C is 50% more efficient than A,

let ratio of their efficiency be 2 : 3

 CB  | C A
Efficiency:5  | 2 3

We know that if the ratio of efficiency is x : y  then the ratio of time taken will be y : x

 CB  | C A
Efficiency:5  | 2 3
Days: 6  | 3  2

Ratio of Days, C :  B : A  = 10 : 12 : 15

Let the total units to be produced be LCM(10,12 & 15) = 60 units

⇒ C’s 1 day work = 6 units

⇒ B’s 1 day work = 5 units

⇒ A’s 1 day work = 4 units

⇒ B alone can do work in = 60/5= 12

According to question

12 represents 72 days

⇒ 1 represents = 72/12= 6 days

So A ,B and C together can complete it in = (60/15) × 6  days= 24 days

∴ A , B and C together will complete the work in 24 days.
8744.

A and B can do a job together in 10 days. A is 5/3 times as efficient as B. The same job can be done by A alone in how many days?1. 222. 233. 164. 255. None of the above

Answer» Correct Answer - Option 3 : 16

Given:

A and B = 10 days

A/B = 5/3

Calculation:

1 day work of A : 1 day work of B = 5 : 3

⇒ Let the A work be 5X and B work be 3X

⇒ 5X + 3X = 1/10

⇒ 8X = 1/10

⇒ X = 1/80

⇒ A’s 1 day of work = 5 × (1/80)

∴ A can alone do the work in 16 days
8745.

A can do a certain job in 12 days. B is 60% more efficient than A. To do the same job B alone would take?1. \(7\frac{1}{2} \) days2. 8 days3. 10 days4. 7 days

Answer» Correct Answer - Option 1 : \(7\frac{1}{2} \) days

Given:

A can do a certain job in 12 days.

B is 60% more efficient than A.

Formula used:

work = efficiency × days

Calculation:

Let efficiency of A be 100.

The efficiency of B will be 160.

Ratio of efficiency A and B = 100 : 160 = 5 : 8

Total work = efficiency ratio of A × total days taken by A to finish work

⇒ 5 × 12 = 60 unit

Time taken by B to finish work = total work/efficiency ratio of B

⇒ 60/8 = \(7\frac{1}{2} \) days

∴ B will finish the job in \(7\frac{1}{2} \) days.

Sharman is 20 percent less efficient than Vivek. If Vivek can make a helmet alone in 20 days, then in how many days can Sharman alone make the same helmet?1. 23 days2. 25 days3. 30 days4. 27 days

Answer» Correct Answer - Option 2 : 25 days

Given:

Sharman is 20 percent less efficient than Vivek

Vivek can make a helmet alone in 20 days

Formula used:

The efficiency of a person is the inverse of the time taken

Calculation:

According to the question,

Per day efficiency of Vivek for making the helmet = 1/20

⇒ Sharman's per day efficiency for making the helmet = (80/100) × (1/20) = 0.8 × (1/20) = 1/25

∴ Sharman can make the helmet in 25 days.

A is 20 percent more efficient than B, C is 60 percent more efficient than D, and B is 40 percent more efficient than D. They get a total wage of ₹ 227200. If all work for an equal time, what will be the share of C?1. ₹ 672002. ₹ 560003. ₹ 640004. ₹ 400005. ₹ 60000

Answer» Correct Answer - Option 3 : ₹ 64000

Given:

The efficiency of A = 20% more efficiency of B

The efficiency of C = 60% more efficiency of D

The efficiency of B = 40% more efficiency of D

Total wages = ₹ 227200

Formula used:

Entire wages = Total number of days × Wages of 1 day of any person

Calculation:

The ratio of efficiency of A to B = 6 : 5,

The ratio of efficiency of C to D = 8 : 5

The ratio of efficiency of B to D = 7 : 5

After combining the ratio we get

The ratio of efficiency of A, B, C and D = 42 : 35 : 40 : 25

Share of C = 40 units

Total share = 42 + 35 + 40 + 25

⇒ 142 units

According to the question,

142 units = ₹ 227200

⇒ 1 unit = ₹ 1600

Share of C = 40 × 1600

⇒ ₹ 64000

In the given question, two equations numbered l and II are given. Solve both the equations and mark the appropriate answer.I. 2X2 – 74X + 420 = 0II. 2Y2 – 94Y + 560 = 01. X > Y2. X < Y3. X ≥ Y4. X ≤ Y5. X = Y or the relationship between X and Y cannot be established.

Answer» Correct Answer - Option 5 : X = Y or the relationship between X and Y cannot be established.

I. 2X2 – 74X + 420 = 0

⇒ X2 – 30X – 7X + 210 = 0      ----(∵ taking 2 as common)

⇒ X(X – 30) – 7(X – 30) = 0

⇒ (X – 30)(X – 7) = 0

∴ The Value of X is 7, 30

II. 2Y2 – 94Y + 560 = 0

⇒ Y2 – 40Y – 7Y + 280 = 0      ----(∵ taking 2 as common)

⇒ Y(Y – 40) – 7(Y – 40) = 0

⇒ (Y – 7)(Y – 40) = 0

∴ The Value of Y is  7, 40

A and B can complete a work in 5 days and 10 days respectively. They asked for the amount of ₹ 20000 for the work. But they get only 60 percent of the amount. What is the share of A after completion of the work?1. ₹ 80002. ₹ 70003. ₹ 85004. ₹ 75005. ₹ 6000

Answer» Correct Answer - Option 1 : ₹ 8000

Given:

Time taken by A to complete the work = 5 days

Time taken by B to complete the work = 10 days

Total amount = ₹ 20000

Concept used:

Time ∝ 1/efficiency

Total wages = Person’s one-day work × Working days

Calculation:

Amount to be distributed = 20000 × (60/100) = ₹ 12000

Time taken by A = 5 days

Time taken by B = 10 days

⇒ One day work of A = 1/5

⇒ One day work of B = 1/10

⇒ Ratio of income = 1/5 : 1/10 = 2 : 1

⇒ Share A will get = (12000/3) × 2

∴ A share is ₹ 8000
