हम जानते हैं किअर्धवृत्त में बना हुआ कोण एक समकोण होता है।.

यहाँ चूँकि कोण RPQ अर्धवृत्त के अंदर बन रहा है, अत: यह एक समकोण है।

अर्थात ∠ RPQ = 900

अब (त्रिभुज) Δ RPQ में

पाइथागोरस प्रमेय के आधार पर

QR2= PQ2+ RP2
