Distinguish between sociology and common sense. |
Answer» Many times Sociology is charged with what it studies, we have at least a bit of knowledge about it or we have experienced it. Sometimes in our own lives or we know it through our popular wisdom. This knowledge, while sometimes accurate, is not always reliable, because it rests on commonly held beliefs rather than systematic analysis of facts. It was once considered ‘common sense’ to accept that the earth was flat. This was questioned by Pythagoras and Aristotle. Such notions still remain with us today. For thousands of years people’s common sense told them that big objects fall faster than small ones, that stone and iron were perfectly. Solid materials, that the desire for children is instinctive in women, that with the spread of education, the institutions of caste and dowry will automatically wither away, yet today we know that none of these statement are true. These common sense statement s based on popular wisdom illustrate our point that common sense knowledge is not always true. Some popular observations may be true but many others are not supported by empirical data. Many .common sense conclusions are based on guesses, hunches, ignorance, prejudices, mistaken interpretation and haphazard trial and error learning. Common sense can lead us astray when we are studying other societies and also when we are studying our own society. Like other scientists, sociologists do not accept something as a fact because “everyone knows it”. Instead, each piece of information must be tested and recorded, then analysed in relationship to other data. Sociology relies on facts gathered scientifically in order to describe, understand and predict about many social phenomena. ‘ |

Write report on ‘The School Tour to a Historical Monument in Rajasthan. |
Answer» A Report on School Tour to a Historical Monument Kota, November 21 Our school arranged a tour of Chittorgarh for class XII students last week. Our entire class of 60 students gathered in the school grounds where the school bus waited to take us to our destination. All of us had brought their lunch and other eatables. The bus departed at 9 a.m. amid a chorus of hurrahs and shouts of joy. Our history teaher, Mrs Sharma and our class teacher Mr Singh accompanied us. We were told not to litter and maintain discipline on the trip. The two hour journey was quite enjoyable and we reached Chittorgarh at 11 a.m. The very first view of the Chittor Fort was stunning. The fort stood on a hilltop. Our history teacher told us that this was one of the largest forts in India and was built by the Mauryas during the 7th Century. It has also been the Capital of Mewar for more than 800 years. The fort has many gates, the main gate being Ram Pol. We saw the museum in Fateh Prakash Palace, which had a unique collection of old guns, swords and other weapons. We also saw the famous Vijay Stambh which was built by Rana Kumbha to commemorate his victory over Mahmud Khilji. Its 157 steps lead to the top of the tower. We also saw the Rana Kumbha Palace. This palace was the residence of Meera Bai and queen Padmini. After having lunch near a large pond, we started back for Kota at 3 p.m. It was truly a memorable experience to see history came alive before our eyes. |

Write an article for your school magazine on the topic ‘The need for morality’ in about 150-200 words. |
Answer» The Need for Morality Every institution – be it a fanıily, a school or any other public undertaking, we find signs of discontentment, impatience and resentment. Life seems off the track in every department of life. We find better living standards around us, but lawlessness and disorder are seen everywhere. What is missing in our life? Obviously, morality has vanished from our life. Self-introspection will make it clear that love for money has made us blind towards our family, towards our duties and towards society. We receive huge amounts of salaries and make huge profits in business but our greed for money remains unfulfilled. Performance of duties sincerely, human sympathy, charity, mercy and helpfulness have vanished from our life. We visit the temples and listen to the preechings of the religious saints. But we never realize our moral duties because our conscience has gone dead. Let us invoke the Divine blessings and pray to Him for the revival of morality in our life |

If x = \(\frac{2}{3}\) and x = – 3 are the roots of the quadratic equation ax2 + 7x + b = 0, then find the values of ‘a’ and ‘b’. |
Answer» Given quadratic equation is ax2 + 7x + b = 0. Sum of the roots of this quadratic equation is \(\frac{-7}{a}\) . And product of roots of the quadratic equation is \(\frac{b}{a}\) Given that roots of given equation are \(\frac{2}{3}\) and – 3. Therefore, \(\frac{2}{3} + (-3) = \frac{-7}{a}\) ⇒ \(\frac{2-9}{3}\) =\(\frac{-7}{a}\) ⇒ \( \frac{-7}{3} = \frac{-7}{a}⇒a=3\) And \(\frac{2}{3}\) × (−3) = \(\frac{b}{a}⇒\frac{b}{a}\)= –2 ⇒ b = –2a = –2 × 3 = – 6. Hence, the value of and b are a = 3 and b = –6 . |
