There are many symbols in the poem.

Longfellow has used many figures of speech in his poem to make it effective. His figurative language includes simile, metaphor, personification and onomatopoeia, among others. There are excellent personifications in “the sun’s returning march” and “soft gales Went forth to kiss the sun-clad vales”. The poem is highly musical. The rhyming couplets (arch-march, gales-vales, light-height, etc.) give a highly’ melodious quality to the poem. The poem has fine rhythm as the stressed and unstressed syllables alternate regularly. There is alliteration that adds to The musical quality. Examples of alliteration are ‘blasted, bare’, ‘faint and far’, ‘sudden shot’, ‘from fainting’. There are also many instances of assonance which make the poem sound sweet: The poem gives a smoothing effect as it sounds so soft and sweet to the ear.

Teachers’ Day was celebrated at Holy Public School, Bharatpur on 5th September. Mrs Shreya Goswami, Vice-Principal of Anand Public School, Bharatpur was the chief guest of the function. During her speech, she said that Dr S. Radhakrishnan realised the dedication and significance of teachers. She gave an example of Radhakrishnan who had a deep respect for teachers. That is the reason we celebrate his birthday as the Teachers’ Day. The principal of the school laid emphasis on the healthy relationship between students and teachers. He said that the teachers must be dedicated to their students and the students must respect their teachers.

Massive Earthquake in Nepal

Kathmandu, April 25
A massive earthquake struck the Himalayan country at 11.55 a.m. today. The earthquake had an intensity of 8.2 on the Richter scale and its aftershocks still continue. The earthquake had its epicentre 20 km from Kathmandu and it lay 5 km below the earth’s surface. Deaths have been estimated at 715, while thousands of wounded people have been shifted to various hospitals. Rescue teams have been dispatched from India. Nepal has declared a national emergency. Destruction has been widespread and many towns besides Kathmandu lie in ruins. The Indian government has pledged full support to the people of Nepal.
