Given: Radius (r) = 5 cm 

To find: Curved surface area and total surface area of hemisphere 

i. Curved surface area of hemisphere = 2πr² 

= 2 x 3.14 x 5² 

= 2 x 3.14 x 25 

= 50 x 3.14 

= 157 sq.cm.

ii. Total surface area of hemisphere = 3πr² 

= 3 x 3.14 x 5² 

= 235.5 sq.cm. 

∴ The curved surface area and total surface area of hemisphere are 157 sq.cm, and 235.5 sq.cm, respectively.

Given: Surface area of sphere = 2826 sq.cm. 

To find: Volume of sphere 

i. Surface area of sphere = 4πr² 

∴ 2826 = 4 x 3.14 x r² 

2826 = 282600 = 900

∴ r² = 2826/4 x 3.14 = 282600/4 x 314 = 900/4

∴ r² = 225

∴ r = √225 … [Taking square root on both sides] 

= 15 cm

ii. Volume of sphere = (4/3) πr³ 

= (4/3) x 3.14 x 15³ 

= (4/3) x 3.14 x 15 x 15 x 15 

= 4 x 3.14 x 5 x 15 x 15 

= 14130 cubic cm. 

∴ The volume of the sphere is 14130 cubic cm.

Roads are filled with vehicles like cars, scooters, motorcycles, scooties, buses; trucks, etc. All these vehicles run with the help of machines on petrol and diesel. These vehicles run very fast. Other than these we can also see cycles, rickshaw, handpushed thhelas, etc. which are run by human being. If people do not follow the traffic rules while walking on roads they may meet with accidents and may also lose their life. Even the vehicles running beyond the speed limit can meet with accidents. Therefore, we must obey the traffic rules while travelling on road, either on a vehicle or on foot.

I am a student of class 7. I would like to draw your attention to the problems prevailing in my area. The most important problem in our area is the bad condition of the roads. There are potholes on roads, where people’s vehicles are stuck and accidents happen. During the rainy season, these roads become even worse. Drains are filled with garbage from which water comes out on the road. Mud and dirt can be seen all around. People throw garbage here and there on the road. Cleaning workers also do not come every day, due to which the mess is visible. The lighting system on the roads is also not good, there are no lamp posts for the arrangement of light and if the lamp posts are there then the bulbs are not in working condition. Because of this, the entire area becomes dark after evening. Children and women feel unsafe to go out at this time. I hope you will publish my letter in your paper and help me draw the government’s attention towards our area and its problems.

Through mass communication, we get to know about the political, environmental, economic, social, sports, music, education, science, cultural news of our country and countries abroad. Information about new technology and important events is also obtained. Destruction from natural calamities like the earthquake in Nepal or tsunami in Tamil Nadu and Cyclone in Andhra Pradesh was seen, heard and read through

television, radio and newspaper. Mass media has done an important job of generating sensitivity and concern in our hearts towards these incidents. Media is also playing an important role in economic and cultural globalization.

In addition, mass communication plays an important role in creating of views and mindset of common citizens. These are helpful in promoting and disseminating public welfare schemes launched by the government through various advertisements and information. The media is playing a positive role in promoting various programs and schemes run by the government. Media not only provides us information but also highights issues related to social concerns. It also plays an important role in increasing public awareness and creating public opinion.

The social sites have increased the scope of expression of ideas. Through these social sites, immediate response is received on any decision of the government. This shows the public’s attitude towards the government and the government can form its policies accordingly. In this way, the vast majority of people are involved in decision making, which is a quality of strong democracy.

Media’s field is very wide therefore its role in making public opinion is very important. Through this the government’s actions and policies are revealed to a wider section of citizenry. Through articles in the newspaper and discussions on television shows, the realities are kept before the public. By which ordinary citizens can know the work done by the government and they may form a point of view.

Newspapers, magazines and journals are examples of printing medium. These are known as the oldest form of media. Although their readers have decreased over the last few years, they are still considered to be the most reliable and responsible medium of communication. Radio, television, internet, etc are the examples of electronic medium. It is the effective medium of information about important events happening in any corner of the globe. These media show the events effectively and analyze them through experts. This gives the audience an opportunity to understand all the aspects of an event.

A responsible media is expected to avoid the greed of negative, artificial and sensational reporting. They must apprise the people of the situation without discrimination or bias, and while using their freedom in democracy they must keep in mind that any article or program broadcasted and published by them should not cause any harm to peace and harmony among the citizens.

Media is the fourth pillar of democratic rule.
