5. Do you think humans will ever be an endangered species?Il. Write an Essay of 300 words on protection of Endangered Spectes

Answer»

Yes, it is inevitable that the human species, as we know it, will become extinct, no matter how hard we try to keep the "evolutionary degeneracy" to a minimum.

Which we can do by ensuring that everyone marries someone according to a plan, that "spreads the deviation" around so there are no sub-species.

If you are confused by this answer, you need to understand how evolution works - even in species that APPEAR to not evolve.

All DNA has errors in duplication. The "purpose" of sex is top ensure that deviations are minimised, by having two sexes that duplicate what the species is supposed to have, in terms of DNA. MOST errors in one sex are corrected for by the other sex.

But there are two problems. The first is that of "sub-species" - like Homo Sapiens and Homo Neandertal, or like chimpanzee and bonobo. All it takes is for "West Africans" to evolve separately from "North Europeans" for a few thousand years - and in this case, the "North Europeans" interbred with Neandertals, and you have two "races", and if you continue with the separation for longer, as we had with our Neandertal cousins, and you have sub-species of human beings, and two species of apes that WE PRESUME can't interbreed at all - us and bonobos or us and chimpanzees.

Note that I said "we presume". The difference in the number of chromosomes between bonobo (48) and human(46), doesn't stop horses and donkeys from interbreeding "mules", with the very rare but possible fertile one.

What does the 1903 plague and the measuresto control ittell us about the French colonialattitude towards questions of health andhygiene?

Answer»

Plagueis a disease caused by rats. Sometime it assumes the form of an epidemic. In 1903, the modern part of Hanoi was struck by bulonic plague. The main cause for this was the increasing number of rats in sewers which were laid out in the French part of Hanoi to keep the city beautiful and clean.

To control plague, measures were taken as follows

The French hired many Vietnamese workers and they were paid for each rat caught, by them. This rat hunting was started in 1902 and on 30th May, 20,000 rats were caught but the problem of rats could not be solved completely. However, this proved beneficial to the Vietnamese workers as they were paid for each tail of the rat. They did not kill the rats but only clipped their tails and set them free again. In short, we can say that the French were deceived.

This shows that the French attitude towards health and hygiene was hypocritical and exploited the Vietnamese fortwo reasons—

(i) The modern city with sewerage was made only where the French lived neglecting the old city areas where the Vietnamese lived.

(ii) The activity of entering the sewers to catch the rats was given to the Vietnamese, without caring how their health would be affected.

Answer»

Different people have different goals. Each one of them seeks different things. They seek things that are most important for them, i.e. that which can fulfil their aspirations or desires. For instance, a landless rural labourers may desire more days of work and better wages, whereas a prosperous farmer may desire assured high family income through higher support price for their crops and through hard worsting and cheap labourers, children to be settled abroad. In fact, at times, two persons or groups may seek things which are conflicting.

For example, a girl expects as much freedom and opportunity as her brother, and that he also shares in the household work. Her brother may not like this. Similarly to get more electricity, industrialists may want more dams. But this may submerge the land and disrupt the liyes of people who are displaced. They may resent this and may prefer small check dams or tanks to irrigate their fields
