What was the difference between 19th century nationalism and that of first half of 20th century?? |
| Answer» The British ruled India to promote their own interests. In doing so they often subordinate Indian welfare to British gain. The Indians realized gradually that their interests\xa0were\xa0being sacrificed to those of British interests. This clash of interests was the root cause of the\xa0rise\xa0of the\xa0nationalist\xa0movement.\xa0In\xa0the 20th\xa0century\xa0new forms of\xa0nationalism\xa0emerged. Hitler based German\xa0nationalism\xa0on racial purity, authoritarian rule, and Germany \'s mythic pre-Christian past. After the Second World War, most of the new forms of\xa0nationalism\xa0were driven by independence movements in the wake of de-colonization. | |

What is the reason of happening Khalifat movement |
|
Answer» Becoz of Jallianwala Bagh incident 1.The First World War ended with the defeat of Ottoman Turkey.2.There were rumours that a harsh peace treaty was going to be imposed on the Ottoman emperor—the spiritual head of the Islamic world—the Khalifa.3.To defend the Khalifa’s temporal powers, a Khilafat Committee was formed in Bombay in March 1919.4.A young generation of Muslim leaders like the Ali brothers, Muhammad Ali and Shaukat Ali, began discussing with Mahatma Gandhi about the possibility of a united mass action on the issue.5.Gandhij i saw this as .an opportunity to bring Muslims under the umbrella of a unified movement called ‘Khilafat and Non-cooperation Movement’. The Khilafat Non-Cooperation Movement was launched by the Indian national Congress in 1920 under the leadership of Gandhi. Main causes for launching the Non-cooperation Movement were:\tThe treatment meted out by the British government to the Caliph of Turkey disturbed the Indian Muslims as he was seen as their religious head. As a result, they started the\xa0Khilafat\xa0Movement.\tGandhi saw this as an opportunity to achieve the much desired Hindu-Muslim unity. He advised the\xa0Khilafat\xa0Committee to adopt a policy of non-cooperation with the British government. The\xa0Khilafat\xa0leaders agreed and campaigned accordingly. Thus, the\xa0Khilafat\xa0Movement furthered the cause of the Non-cooperation Movement.\tThe\xa0Rowlatt\xa0Act of 1919\xa0authorised\xa0the British government to arrest and imprison any person without trial and convict him in a court. Also, the Act implied severe restrictions on movements of individuals and suspension of the Right of Habeas Corpus. This was seen as a major breach of trust by Indians who were expecting the British to deliver on their promise of providing self-government. Gandhi appealed to the Viceroy to withhold his consent to the Act but his plea fell on deaf ears.\tThe\xa0Jalianwala\xa0Bagh\xa0massacre and the subsequent British reaction to it was a watershed event in the Indian freedom struggle. It led to a huge furor all over the country and hardened the Congress resolve to attain self government.\tThe Rowlatt satyagraha had been a widespread movement, it was still limited mostly to cities and towns. Gandhi now felt the need to launch a more broad-based movement in India which finally resulted in the launching of the Non Cooperation movement.\xa0 The reason of khilafat movement is Due to peace treaty that ottaman empire should sign It was a protest against the sanctions placed on the caliph and the Ottoman Empire after the First World War by the Treaty of Sèvres. The movement collapsed by late 1922 when Turkey gained a more favourable diplomatic position and moved towards secularism |

Difference between Horizontal division of powers and Vertical division of powers.Horizontal Division of Powers(i) Horizontal Division of powers is such a power sharing arrangement in which power is shared , among different organs of government as, legislature, executive and judiciary.(ii) In horizontal division of powers, different organs of government exercise different powers, i.e., there is a concept of separation of powers.(iii) Horizontal distribution specifies the concept of checks and balances in order to check the exercises of unlimited powers of the organs.(iv) Horizontal distribution of power ensures the concept of the expansion of democracy.Vertical Divisions of Powers(i) In Vertical Division of powers, power can be shared among governments at different levels like union, state and local levels of such government, i.e., it involves higher and lower levels of government.(ii) Whereas, in vertical division of powers, constitution clearly lays down the powers of different levels of government.(iii) But, there is no such concept of checks and balances in the vertical Division because powers are clearly given by the constitution from the higher level to the lower level.(iv) Vertical division of powers promotes the concept of deepening of democracy.
