What was the difference between 19th century nationalism and that of first half of 20th century?? |
| Answer» The British ruled India to promote their own interests. In doing so they often subordinate Indian welfare to British gain. The Indians realized gradually that their interests\xa0were\xa0being sacrificed to those of British interests. This clash of interests was the root cause of the\xa0rise\xa0of the\xa0nationalist\xa0movement.\xa0In\xa0the 20th\xa0century\xa0new forms of\xa0nationalism\xa0emerged. Hitler based German\xa0nationalism\xa0on racial purity, authoritarian rule, and Germany \'s mythic pre-Christian past. After the Second World War, most of the new forms of\xa0nationalism\xa0were driven by independence movements in the wake of de-colonization. | |
