Illeffects of alcoholism on society in india

Answer» ALCOHOLISM in family systems refers to the conditions in families that enable alcoholism, and the effects of alcoholic behavior by one or more family members on the rest of the family. Mental health professionals are increasingly considering alcoholism and addiction as DISEASES that flourish in and are enabled by family systems.[1] Family members react to the alcoholic with particular behavioral patterns. They may enable the addiction to continue by shielding the addict from the negative consequences of their actions. Such behaviors are referred to as codependence. In this way, the alcoholic is said to suffer from the disease of addiction, whereas the family members suffer from the disease of codependence.[2][3] While it is RECOGNIZED that addiction is a family disease, affecting the entire family system, "the family is often ignored and neglected in the treatment of addictive disease." [4] Each individual member is affected and should receive treatment for their own benefit and HEALING, but in addition to benefitting the individuals themselves, this also helps to better support the addict/alcoholic in his/her recovery process. "The chances of recovery are greatly reduced unless the co-dependents are willing to accept their role in the addictive process and submit to treatment themselves." [5] "Co-dependents are mutually dependent on the addict to fulfill some need of their own." [4]For example, if the "Chief Enabler" (the main enabler in the family) will often turn a blind eye to the addict's drug/alcohol use as this allows for the enabler to continue to play the victim and/or martyr role, while allowing the addict to continue his/her own destructive behavior. Therefore, "the behavior of each reinforces and maintains the other, while also raising the costs and emotional consequences for both." [6]

How was the earth formed based on hinduism?

Answer»

Hinduism includes a range of viewpoints about the ORIGIN of life, creationism andevolution. There is no single story of creation, due to dynamic diversity of Hinduism, and these are derived from various SOURCES likeVedas, some from the Brahmanas, some fromPuranas; some are philosophical, based on concepts, and others are narratives. TheRigveda mentions the Hiranyagarbha ("golden embryo") as the source of the creation of the Universe, similar to the world egg motif found in the creation myths of many other civilizations. It also contains a myth of proto-Indo-European origin, in which the creation arises out of the DISMEMBERMENT of a cosmic being (the Purusha) who is sacrificed by the gods. As for the creation of the primordial gods themselves, the Nasadiya Sukta of Rigveda takes a near-agnostic stand, stating that the Gods came into being after the world's creation, and nobody knows when the world first came into being. In the laterPuranic texts, the creator god Brahma is described as performing the act of 'creation', or more specifically of 'propagating life within the universe'. Some texts consider him equivalent to the Hiranyagarbha or the Purusha, while others state that he arose out of these. Brahma is a part of the trinity of gods that also includes Vishnu and Shiva, who are responsible for 'preservation' and 'destruction' (of the universe) respectively.

Many Hindu texts mention the cycle of creation and destruction. The Shatapatha Brahmana states that the current human generation descends from Manu, the only MAN who survived a great deluge after being warned by the God. This legend is comparable to the other flood legends, such as the story of the Noah's Ark mentioned in the Bible and the Quran.

Hindus find support for, or foreshadowing of evolutionary ideas in scriptures. For example, the concept of Dashavatara can be seen as having some similarities to Charles Darwin's theory of evolution. The first incarnation of Vishnu in the form of a fish resembles the evolutionary origin of fish in theSilurian Period.

In a survey of 909 people, 77% of its RESPONDENTS in India agreed that enough scientific evidence exists to support Charles Darwin’s Theory of Evolution, and 85% of God-believing people said they agree with evolution as well. According to the survey conducted by Pew Forum in the United States, 80% of Hindus agree that evolution is the best explanation for the origin of human life on earth. However, in India, there were minimal references to Darwinism in the 1800s. Elements of Victorian England opposed the idea of Darwinism. Hindus already had present notion of common ancestry between humans and animals. The Hindu dharma believes that the gods have animal features, showing a theory that humans can be reborn again as animals or with their features.

How does mass media influence ideologies?

Answer»

Mass media is a significant force in modern culture, particularly in America. Sociologists refer to this as a mediated culture where media reflects and creates the culture. Communities and individuals are bombarded constantly with messages from a multitude of sources including TV, billboards, and magazines, to name a few. These messages promote not only PRODUCTS, but moods, attitudes, and a sense of what is and is not important. Mass media makes possible the concept of celebrity: without the ability of movies, magazines, and NEWS media to reach ACROSS thousands of miles, people could not become famous. In fact, only political and business LEADERS, as well as the few notorious outlaws, were famous in the past. Only in recent times have actors, singers, and other SOCIAL elites become celebrities or “stars.”

Critically discuss the construction of social reality

Answer»

Reality is DEFINED as a quality appertaining to phenomena that we recognize as having independent of our own volition, while knowledge is defined as the certainty that phenomena are real and that they possess specific characteristics. Knowledge is the accumulated and passed on understanding of reality for societies. This part of the book deals with the concept of every day knowledge. This knowledge enables us to understand here and now realities. In the words of Berger and Luckmann:

“As sociologists we take [the reality of everyday life] as the object of our analyses. Within the frame of reference of sociology as an empirical science it is possible to take this reality as given, to take as data particular phenomena arising within it, without further inquiring about the foundations of this reality, which is a philosophical task”

To analyze the every day life the book suggests phenomenological analysis. It presents an interesting observation of consciousness. It is ALWAYS intentional and different objects confront consciousness as different reality. Everyday reality is postulated as BEST reality. Everyday reality seems ordered and independent and is described as “here and now” in space and time. It is structured spatially and temporally. Temporality is intrinsic to consciousness.

Reality of everyday life is shared with others. In face to face SITUATIONS, there is the greatest room to share information. The book describes a continuum of social interaction in which social part of everyday reality varies towards anonymity as we move farther from here and now. The two sides of continuum are face to face and complete anonymity. The IMPORTANCE of knowledge is emphasized in a great manner. It is postulated that language becomes repository for vast accumulations of meanings and experiences. It is observed that language originates in and has primary reference to everyday life. It has objectivity. It forces social interactions into patterns and typifies the experiences. Language bridges different zones of reality and integrates them into a meaningful reality, which includes spatial, temporal, and social variations. Biographical and historical experiences are objectified, retained, and accumulated
