मेरा नाम रुपया है । मेरा निवास कुबेर के खजाने में हैं । मेरे देवता कुबेर माने जाते हैं । कुछ लोग लक्ष्मी भी कहते हैं । मेरा रूप कह ही है लेकिन मेरे अनेक नाम-रुबल, येन, लारा, मार्क, डालर, पौंड, दीनार, रुपया आदि है ।

मेरे द्वारा ही देश और विदेश में व्यापार होता है । मुझे देकर लोग अपने जीवन यापन की आवश्यक वस्तुएँ खरीदते हैं । प्राचीन समय में मेरा रूप कुछ और ही था । मेरी महिमा कुछ कम थी । लोग एक-दूसरे पर प्राण देने को तैयार रहते थे । गुरुकुलों में भी शिक्षाध्ययन के लिए फीस नहीं ली जाती थी । विद्वानों की सर्वत्र पूजा होती थी । राजा भी विद्वानों का सम्मान करते थे ।

धीरे-धीरे समय बदला और मेरा सम्मान होने लगा । मैं सर्वोपरि हो गया । भैया, दादा, मामा, माँ, बहन यह सब नगण्य हो गए और जगत में एक कहावत प्रसिद्ध हो गई:-

दादा बड़ा न भैया, सबसे बड़ा रुपया

मेरे आ जाने से लोगों का रहन-सहन, बोल-चाल, पहनने का ढंग, चाल-ढाल सभी कुछ बदल जाती है कल का राम, राम प्रसाद बन गया है । मेरी सुगन्ध से सभी बाधाएँ दूर हो जाती हैं । मैं जिसके पास चला जाऊँ वही व्यक्ति कुलीन, दर्शनीय, पण्डित, गुणी बन जाता है । उसके ऊपर रिश्तेदार और मित्र, मक्खी की तरह मंडराते रहते हैं ।

प्राचीन काल में लोग कहा करते थे कि मेरा और सरस्वती का बैर है । अर्थात् हम दोनों एक स्थान पर इकट्‌ठे नहीं रह सकते । यदि व्यक्ति के पास विद्या (सरस्वती) है तो मैं (लक्ष्मी) नहीं । यदि मैं हूं तो विद्या नहीं । लेकिन लगता है आधुनिक युग में यह सिद्धान्त बदल गया, मेरी और सरस्वती की मित्रता हो गई है ।

धनवान व्यक्ति ही अच्छे विद्यालय में अपने बच्चों को शिक्षा दिलवा पाता है । परीक्षा में अच्छे अंक दिलवाने के ट्‌यूशन लगा देता है । परीक्षक को रिश्वत देकर फेल छात्र को पास करा लिया जाता है । मेरी महिमा दिन-प्रतिदिन इसी तरह बढ़ती रही तो वह दिन दूर नहीं जब शिक्षा केवल धनाढ़य लोगों के लिए रह जाएगी और निर्धन और योग्य छात्र यदि उच्च शिक्षा प्राप्त कर ले तो उन्हें केवल अपवाद कहें जाएंगें |

भविष्य काल
भविष्य का अर्थ है आने वाला समय । क्रिया के जिस रुप को उसके आने वाले समय में होने का पता चलता है उसे भविष्य काल कहते हैं। जैसे-
गौरी नृत्य प्रतियोगिता में भाग लेगी।
