How to find a substance is metal or non metal by knowing its valu in valent shell

Answer»

By knowing the value of valent shell we can find that if the element can lose or GAIN the electrons easily.If it can lose electrons for ex- in case of SODIUM there are 1 electron in it's valent shell hence it BECOME EASY for it to lose the electron therefore , it is a metal .Whereas , when the element can gain the electron easily for e.g chlorine have 7 electrons in it's VALENCE shell therefore it become easy for the chlorine to gain an electron to become balance hence it is non - metal..

Limitation of vsepr theory

Answer»

❤️❤️ hi mate ❤️❤️
❤️❤️ HOPE this helps you ❤️❤️
_________________________

Limitations of VSEPR theory:

VSEPR Theory fails to explain isoelectronic species. Isoelectronic species REFERS to the elements that have same number of ELECTRONS. According to VSEPR theory, a shape of the molecule depends on the number of bond pair and a LONE pair (valence electrons).But, isoelectronic species can differ in the shape even if they have a same number of electrons.

VSEPR Theory does not explain the transition metal compounds. The VSEPR model fails to guess the structure of certain compounds. The reason being that it does not take ASSOCIATED sizes of the substituent’s and inactive lone pairs into account.

9.

Substance X on hating gives Y $ Z. Is X is compound or a element

Answer»

1) If a substance X on heating gives two different SUBSTANCES Y and Z, then the substance is a compound and not an ELEMENT. Both elements and compounds are pure substances. However, an element is composed of only one type of particles, while a compound consists of two or more atoms of different elements, combined in a fixed ratio by mass. For example carbon is an element composed of only carbon atoms while NaHCO3, CaCO3 are compounds composed of atoms of more that one element. Hence if we are obtaining two substances by heating substance X, it means that the X itself is composed of two different types of atoms. Thus X is a compound.
2) Elements are the pure substances which consists of only one type of particles. These particles can be atoms or molecules. For example Carbon is made up of only carbon atoms, Hydrogen GAS consists of Hydrogen molecules (formed from two atoms of Hydrogen) etc.
A compound on the other HAND, is a pure substance which consists of two or more atoms of different elements, combined in a fixed ratio by mass. ALSO the properties of a compound are entirely different from that of the combining elements. Some examples of compound include water (formed from atoms of two elements-oxygen and hydrogen), sodium chloride (formed from sodium and chlorine), ammonia etc.

10.

In a room the temperature of metal is same as the temperature of water?

Answer»

From what I've read about heat, temperature and CONDUCTIVITY, I understand that the REASON water at room temperature feels colder than most other things at the same temperature (like wood, AIR, cotton) is because of its higher thermal conductivity. That is, it transfers heat quickly from my BODY to itself, as well as within itself.

(Assuming the thermal conductivity is the only reason why different materials feel colder or warmer), what I don't understand is why metals feel about as cold as water, while their thermal conductivities are 100-to-200 times higher than that of water(Water's is ~0.58 W/mK, the values for metals RANGE from 50 to 400).

What are isotope and isobars gave differences between them

Answer»

Hey frnd...
ISOTOPES are those in which the atoms has same atomic number i.e same no of protons but different NEUTRONS.
for example --- Carbon 12 and Carbon 14 are both isotopes of carbon, one with 6 neutrons and one with 8 neutrons (both with 6 protons).

ISOBARS are those in which atoms have same atomic mass.
for example---An example of a SERIES of isobars WOULD be40S, 40Cl, 40Ar, 40K, and 40Ca.

19.

Calculate the molarity of a solution containing 20.7 g of potassium carbonate dissolved in 500 mL of solution.

Answer»

This is how you CRACK it up;

Molarity=NUMBER of MOLES/volume of solution

since we do not have the number of moles, but INSTEAD we have the mass

We SAY: Number of moles= mass/molar mass

∴No of moles=20.7g/138.205g/mol

                     = 0.149mol

∴molarity=0.149mol/500mL

molarity= 0.000298mol/mL or (0.000298M)

Explain theory of nucleation and theory of oriented nucleation theory of oriented growth during recrystallization.

Answer»

The evolution in the understanding of the recrystallization phenomena is summarized in this paper. Initially the main DEVELOPMENTS concerning recrystallization are presented from a historical PERSPECTIVE. Definitions and concepts involving recrystallization are presented regarding it as a solid-state reaction that occurs by nucleation and growth. The recrystallization nucleation mechanisms are subsequently discussed. FINALLY, the growth step is highlighted, emphasizing boundary and sub-boundary MOBILITIES and the forces acting on the high angle grain BOUNDARIES that sweep the microstructure during recrystallization.

What is the ea for the overall reaction f + g→ i? What is the ea for the reverse i → f + g? Which step determines rate?

Answer»

Dear STUDENT,

Please find below the solution to the asked query :
We know that VOLUME = base area x height
So height
h =13400670=20 cmNow TSAof BOX = 2[lb+bh+hl]Now here we know h but we dont know l, b so but we can factorize l×b = 670 , to get at least one possible value of l and b l×b = 67×10 So l = 67 and b = 10 Now putting this we get TSAof box = 2[670+200+1340] = 4420 square cm

Hope this would clear your doubt about the topic.

45.

Which compound will react faster with OH and why???

Answer»

In the SN2 mechanism, the reactivity of halides for the same ALKYL group increases in the order. This happens because as the size increases, the halide ion becomes a better LEAVING group.
R−F << R−Cl < R−Br < R−I
Therefore, CH3I will react FASTER than CH3BR in SN2 reactions with OH.
