What\'s nitrogen cycle? |
| Answer» 78% of the total gases in the atmosphere is nitrogen but it cannot be used by plants and animals directly. The nitrogen-fixing bacteria and algae present in the soil fix nitrogen from the atmosphere and convert into nitrite and nitrate forms. Once nitrogen is converted into these usable forms, it can be utilised by plants through their root system. This is the process of \'fixing\' of nitrogen. Animals feeding on plants get proteins and other nitrogenous compounds. When plants and animals die, bacteria and fungi present in the soil convert various nitrogenous compounds into nitrates and nitrites. Certain specialized bacteria convert nitrates and nitrites into nitrogen gas. As a result, the percentage of nitrogen in the atmosphere remains more or less content. | |

Construction &working of biogas plant |
| Answer» Biogas is a clean and efficient fuel. It is a mixture of methane (CH4), carbon dioxide (CO2), hydrogen (H2) and hydrogen sulphide (H2S). The chief constituent of biogas is methane (65%).Principle :Biogas is produced as a result of anaerobic fermentation of biomass in the presence of water.Construction:The biogas plant is a brick and cement structure having the following five sections:\tMixing tank present above the ground level.\tInlet chamber: The mixing tank opens underground into a sloping inlet chamber.\tDigester: The inlet chamber opens from below into the digester which is a huge tank with a dome like ceiling. The ceiling of the digester has an outlet with a valve for the supply of biogas.\tOutlet chamber: The digester opens from below into an outlet chamber.\tOverflow tank: The outlet chamber opens from the top into a small over flow tank.Working :\tThe various forms of biomass are mixed with an equal quantity of water in the mixing tank.\tThis forms the slurry. The slurry is fed into the digester through the inlet chamber.\tWhen the digester is partially filled with the slurry, the introduction of slurry is stopped and the plant is left unused for about two months.\tDuring these two months, anaerobic bacteria present in the slurry decomposes or ferments the biomass in the presence of water.\tAs a result of anaerobic fermentation, biogas is formed, which starts collecting in the dome of the digester.\tAs more and more biogas starts collecting, the pressure exerted by the biogas forces the spent slurry into the outlet chamber.\tFrom the outlet chamber, the spent slurry overflows into the overflow tank.\tThe spent slurry is manually removed from the overflow tank and used as manure for plants.\tThe gas valve connected to a system of pipelines is opened when a supply of biogas is required.\tTo obtain a continuous supply of biogas, a functioning plant can be fed continuously with the prepared slurry. \xa0 | |

What is force ? |
|
Answer» a force is any interaction that, when unopposed, will change the motion of an object. A force can cause an object with mass to change its velocity (which includes to begin moving from a state of rest), i.e., to accelerate. Force can also be described intuitively as a push or a pull. A force has both magnitude and direction, making it a vector quantity. It is measured in the SI unit of newtons and represented by the symbol F. Force is a push or pull upon an object resulting from the object\'s interaction with another object. Whenever there is an interaction between two objects, there is a force upon each of the objects.F=maWhere F-Forcce, m-mass, a-acceleration. SI unit of force is Newton |

Why star twinkle in night? |
| Answer» Twinkling of the star is due to refraction of the light from stars through atmosphere. The light from stars on entering the earth\'s atmosphere undergoes refraction continuously before it reaches the earth. The stars are very distant objects and may be considered as point sources. The refractive index of the air changes from time to time due to change of density of air. Due to change of the density of earth\'s atmosphere, the path of rays from stars continuously change. The apparent positions of the stars continuously change due to change in refractive index of the atmosphere. Thus the stars appear to twinkle. | |

Experiment to show that CO2 is necessary for respiration |
| Answer» Experiment to Show Carbon Dioxide is necessary for RespirationObjective: To show experimentally that carbon dioxide is necessary for Respiration.Apparatus and Materials Required: A conical flask, a beaker, a cork with a hole, a glass tube bent at right angles at two places, a small test tube, KOH solution, thread, coloured water. Vaseline and germinating seeds of gram or pea.Theory: Respiration is a catabolic process which involves the breakdown of food or complex organic molecules into simpler products, with the release of energy. This process can take place either in the presence of oxygen (aerobic respiration) or in its absence (anaerobic respiration). The overall reaction mechanism of aerobic respiration involves the oxidation of carbohydrate and the subsequent production of CO2, H2O and energy.C6H12O6+6O2 → 6CO2 + 6H2O + EnergyProcedure:1. Take the conical flask and place some germinating gram or pea seeds in it.2. Insert the shorter end of the glass tube through the hole in the cork and fix it on the conical flask.3. Before fixing the cork, hang a test tube containing KOH solution inside the conical flask with the help of a thread.4. Take coloured water in the beaker and keep the longer end of the glass tube dipped inside it.5. Make the conical flask airtight by applying Vaseline on its rim.6. Note the initial level of water in the tube.7. Observe and note the rise in the water level after an hour, without disturbing the apparatus.Observation:Water level rises up in the bent tube.\xa0Result:The germinating seeds in the conical flask release CO2 during respiration, which is absorbed by the KOH solution kept in the small test tube. This creates a partial vacuum in the flask that forces the water up the delivery tube. Thus, it proves that CO2 is necessary for respiration. | |

Why carbohydrates are known as the instant source of energy? |
| Answer» The carbohydrates get digested into glucose. Since, glucose does not have to be digested; it acts as an instant source of energy.Glucose (dextrose) is the sole source of energy to the brain. Glucose undergoes oxidation inside the cell to produce ATP molecules which are said to be energy coins. We get instant energy from aglucose because its in the simplest form of carbohydrate that breaks up very easily so we get instant energy from glucose. | |

Prepration method of washing soda |
| Answer» Solvay Process- preparation of sodium carbonate(washing soda)Step 1: Purification of Brine Concentrated brine is obtained by the process of evaporation and impurities like calcium, magnesium etc are removed by the process called precipitation. The concentrated brine solution undergoes filtration and is mixed with ammonia in the ammonia tower and the ammonia tower gets cooled.Step 2: Formation of sodium hydrogen carbonate In a carbonate tower, carbon dioxide is passed through ammoniated brine solution.NH3(aq)+CO2(g)+NaCl(aq)+H2O→NaHCO3(s)+NH4Cl(aq)Step 3: Formation of sodium carbonate Sodium Bicarbonate formed is obtained from the tower and is heated at a temperature of 300°C. Hence formations of sodium carbonate takes place. 2NaHCO3→Na2CO3+CO2+H2OStep 4: Recovery of ammonia Ammonia can be recovered by treating the solution of NH4Cl with Ca (OH)2. This ammonia is again used in Solvay process and CaCl2 is obtained as a by-product. 2NH4Cl+Ca(OH)2→2NH3+CaCl2+H2O | |
