Answer» ‘कहानी’ गद्य-साहित्य की वह विधा है, जिसमें जीवन के किसी एक मार्मिक तथ्य या घटना को पात्रों, संवाद एवं घटनाक्रम के माध्यम से नाटकीय रूप में अभिव्यक्ति दी जाती है। ‘कहानी हमारे देश में प्राचीन काल से ही कही-सुनी जाती रही है। सर्वप्रथम पुराणों में कहानी के दर्शन होते हैं। मूलत: आख्यात्मक शैली में रचित होने के कारण इन्हें ‘आख्यायिका’ भी कहा जाता था। वृहत् कथा, बैताल पचीसी, सिंहासन बत्तीसी, कादम्बरी आदि इसी कोटि की रचनाएँ हैं। आधुनिक साहित्यिक कहानियों का उद्देश्य एवं शिल्प इस आख्यायिका से भिन्न है। इनमें कहानी को कथ्य, पात्रों एवं घटनाओं के चित्रण द्वारा कलात्मक रूप से प्रस्तुत किया जाता है। इसका आरम्भ विधिवत् रूप से ‘सरस्वती’ पत्रिका के । प्रकाशन से अर्थात् सन् 1900 ई० से माना जाता है। किशोरीलाल गोस्वामी की कहानी ‘इन्दुमती’ हिन्दी की पहली मौलिक कहानी मानी जाती है। इसके बाद ‘ग्यारह वर्ष का समय’ (रामचन्द्र शुक्ल) और ‘दुलाई वाली’ आती हैं। प्रेमचन्द के समय में कहानियों का पूर्ण विकास हुआ। |
