A boat goes 24 km upstream and 28 km downstream in 6 hrs. It goes 30km upstream and 21 km downstream in 13 / 2 hours. Find the speed of boat in still water and also speed of the stream.Its urgent.....

Answer»

Answer:

The speed of boat in STILL water is 10 km/hr and the speed of STREAM is 4 km/hr

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the speed of boat in still water be x

Let the speed of stream be y

Upstream Speed = x-y

Downstream speed = x+y

Case 1 )

Distance of upstream = 24 km

Time = \frac{Distance}{Speed}

Time = \frac{24}{x-y}

Distance of down stream  = 28 km

Time = \frac{Distance}{Speed}

Time = \frac{28}{x+y}

Since we are given that total time is 6 hours

So,  \frac{24}{x-y}+\frac{28}{x+y}=6  ---A

Case 2)

Distance of upstream =30 km

Time = \frac{Distance}{Speed}

Time = \frac{30}{x-y}

Distance of down stream  = 21 km

Time = \frac{Distance}{Speed}

Time = \frac{21}{x+y}

Since we are given that total time is 13/2 hours

So,  \frac{30}{x-y}+\frac{21}{x+y}=\frac{13}{2}  ---B

Solve A and B

\frac{24}{x-y}+\frac{28}{x+y}=6

]\frac{30}{x-y}+\frac{21}{x+y}=\frac{13}{2}

Let \frac{1}{x-y} = u and \frac{1}{x+y} =v

So, 24u+28v=6 ----1

30u+21v=\frac{13}{2}   ---2

Multiply 1 with 5 and 2 with 4

120u+140v=30 ---5

120u+84v=26  ---6

Subtract 6 from 5

120u+140v-120u-84v=30-26

140v-84v=4

56v=4

v=\frac{4}{56}=\frac{1}{14}

Substitute the value of v in 5

120u+140(\frac{1}{14})=30

120u+10=30

120u=20

u=\frac{20}{120} =\frac{1}{6}

So, \frac{1}{x-y} = \frac{1}{6} and \frac{1}{x+y} =\frac{1}{14}

x-y=6 --- 7 and x+y=14 ---8

Add 7 and 8

x-y+x+y=6+14

2x=20

x=10

Substitute in 8

10+y=14

y=4

HENCE the speed of boat in still water is 10 km/hr and the speed of stream is 4 km/hr

Q . Find the smallest number which when subtracted from following numbers will make them perfect square.(A) 200(B)175Plz don't give wrong answers

Answer»

The CORRECT answer  for (A) is 4 and for (B) is 6  .

Explanation :

  • Since we know that the nearest perfect square to 200 is 196 , which is the square of 14 .
  • So now we have to find a number which when SUBTRACTED from 200 gives 196 .
  • So , let the required  number be = a

        ∴200-a = 196

          ⇒ a = 200 - 196

                 = 4

HENCE ,  4 is the smallest number which when when subtracted from 200 makes it a perfect square .

  • SIMILARLY the nearest perfect square to 175 is 169 , which is the square of 13 .
  • Here again let the required number be = b .

     ∴ 175 - b = 169

       ⇒ b = 175 - 169

               = 6 .

Hence , 6 is the smallest number which when subtracted from 175 makes it a perfect square ,

the price of 3 notebooks and 2 textbooks rupees 135 but a notebook cost rupees 5 more than the notebook find the cost of both the notebook and test book

Answer»

Hey!!!

___________

Let the cost of 1 NOTEBOOK be Rs.X and 1 textbook be Rs.y.

Then ATQ,

=> 3x + 2y = 135------(1)

Also

=> x - 5 = y

=> (x - y = 5)2-------(2)

ADD (1) and (2).

=> 3x + 2y + 2x - 2y = 135 + 10

=> 5x = 145

Thus x = 29

Thus y = 24

Thus the cost of 1 notebook is Rs.29 and 1 textbook is Rs.24

HCF of 240 and x = 60

LCM of 240 and x =720

Now, as we know that product of two numbers = LCM × HCF of that numbers.

=> 240 × x = 60 × 720
=> x = 60 × 720/240
=> x = 180

Hence, VALUE of x = 180.

the price of 3 notebooks and 2 test books is rupees is 135 but a notebook cost rupees 5 more than the test book. Find the cost of both the network and testbook

Answer» LET us take the cost of a notebook be'x'
let us take the cost of one testbook be 'y'

according to the question,
3 notebook and 2 testbook is of 135 RUPEES
so, 3x+2y=135.......(1)
a notebook cost 5 rupees more than the testbook
so, x=y+5
x-y=5.........(2)
multiply both sides by 3 in equation
3(x-y)=(3)(5)
3x-3y=15......(3)

subtract equation (1) and (3)
3x+2y-(3x-3y)=135-15
3x+2y-3x+3y=120
5y=120
y=120/5
y=24
put the VALUE of y in eq. 2

x-y=5
x-24=5
x=5+24
x=29

Answer»

Amount GIVEN to the MAID

= Rs. 678.90

Amount SPENT on GROCERY

= 0.2 x 679.90

= Rs. 135.98

The REMAINING amount = 679.90 - 135.98

                                     = 543.92

The maid earns;

Rs. 543.92

29.

Find the smallest no. Which leaves remainder 8&12 when divided by 28 and 32 respectively.

Answer»

First we calculate the smallest number ,which when divided by 28 & 32 leaves remainder 0.

Which is the LCM of 28, & 32 =

28= 2² x 7

32 = 2^5

So, LCM = 2^5 * 7 = 224

Now, by Euclid's division LEMMA ,

dividend = divisor*quotient + remainder (r
224 = 28 *8 +0

=> 224 = 224 +0

=> 224 = 216 + 8 ( because we want r= 8)

=> 224 = (28*7+20)+8

=> 224–20 = 28*7 +8 ●●●●●●●●●●(1)

Similarly, 224 = 32 *7 +0

=> 224 = 224 +0

=> 224 = 212 +12 ( because we want r= 12)

=> 224 = (32*6+20) +12

=> 224 - 20 = 32*6 +12 ●●●●●●●●●●●(2)

Now, we observe that LHS of both eq (1) & eq(2) are equal. Divisors are also 28 & 32 & REMAINDERS are also the required numbers 8 & 12

So the smallest dividend = 224 - 20 = 204

●ANS● 204

How to find irrational numbers between 0.2 and 0.3

Answer»

By PUTTING the FORMULA of

36.

Need help to solve this que

Answer»

Hello dear friend ,

LETS say the amount received by 2 daughters as "x", and that by 3 sons as "y"

2x + 3y = 108000--- equation (i)

Now lets make another equation :
2x = 3(3y),
which becomes 2x - 9y =0----equation (II)

So, by eliminating equation 2 from 1, we obtain :
    2x + 3y = 108000
 - ( 2x - 9y = 0    )  (remember asminus sign is in front , other sign will change)
¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬
= o + 12y = 108000

So , 12y = 108000, by solving this u can find :
y = 9000
 putting y=9000 in any of equations, (here i m takingeqn (ii))
2x - 9 (9000) =0

 2x = 81000

So , x = 40500

Hence , each will getan amount of  RS. 40500. (required answer).
