For an EQUATION to have equal roots DISCRIMINANT of equation should ZERO.
( - 2(1 + 3k)) {}^{2}  - 4 (7(2k + 3)) = 0 \\ 4(1 + 3k) {}^{2}  = 4 \times 7 \times (2k + 3) \\ (1 + 3k) {}^{2}  = 7(2k + 3) \\ 1 + 9 {k}^{2}  + 6k = 14k + 21 \\ 9k {}^{2}  - 20 - 8k = 0 \\ 9k {}^{2}  - 8k - 20 = 0 \\ so \: k \:  = 2 \\ opt(2)

6. Find compound interest on Rs. 8000 at 15% per annum for 2 years 4 months, compounded annually?

Answer»

Given

P=₹8000

R=15%p.a.

T=2yr and 4 MONTHS

So first we will calculate for 2 YRS

A= p(1+r/100)^N

A=8000(1+15/100)²

A=8000(115/100)²

A=8000 x 115/100 x 115/100

A=8x115x115x/10

A=₹10580

Now for next 4 months rate will be according to TIME

so \: r = 15\% \times \frac{4}{12} \\ \\ = 15 \times \frac{1}{3} \\ \\ = 5\%

Interest = pxrxt /100

Here P= amount we got after 2 years I.e. =10580

R=5%

T=1

=10580x5x1/100

=₹529

Amount after 2yr and 4 months =10580+529

=₹11109

Compound interest = amount - principal

=11109-8000

=₹3109

Rate of DEPRECIATION = 10 %

Amount

= P {(1 - \frac{rate}{100}) }^{time} \\
= 45000 {( 1-\frac{10}{100}) }^{2} \\ \\ = 45000 {( 1 - 0.1) }^{2} \\ \\ = 45000 \times {0.9}^{2} \\ \\ =36450

After 2 years it's cost will be 36450 rupees.

or, c=√(9+16)
=5 UNIT.
17.

What is the value of x?

Answer» \bold{Answer :}

{ SEE the attachment for the REQUIRED figure }

By applying PYTHAGORAS theorem on triangle ABC, we get

AB² + AC² = BC²

or, x² + AC² = 6²

or, AC² = 36 - x²

Applying Pythagoras theorem on triangle ACD, we get

AD² + DC² = AC²

or, AD² + 3² = 36 - x²

or, AD² = 36 - 9 - x²

or, AD² = 27 - x²

Again, applying Pythagoras theorem on triangle ABD, we get

AD² + BD² = AB²

or, 27 - x² + 3² = x²

or, 2x² = 27 + 9

or, 2x² = 36

or, x² = 18

or, x = 3√2, taking the positive value

Therefore, the value of x is 3√2 units

Answer» F(1/2) = 2(1/2) - 1

= 1 - 1

f(1/2) = 0

Hence 1/2 is the ZERO of polynomial.

f(-1/2) = 2(-1/2) - 1

= -1 -1

f(-1/2) = -2

Hence it is not the zero of polynomial.
